If you're on the fence - JUST GO! This was my first time ever doing karaoke and I think I may be addicted. The facility is so clean and well thought out. They have this karaoke thing down to a science. They plan to split the bill ahead of time so everyone has their own tab from the get-go. Private rooms of various sizes are available. You can control the lights and temperature in the room, and the karaoke controls and microphones are intuitive and easy to use. Staff are all incredibly friendly and prompt. Food is much better than you'd expect from a place like this - order the pretzel and get extra cheese! The drinks are on point as well. This is the greatest place to have a party! You are in your own room so everyone can do their thing without being in a crowd of strangers. It immediately relaxes even the shyest singers in the group! My book club and I took a trip to Oregon for our 2 year anniversary and naturally Voicebox was definitely on the agenda. This place was so fun. The party had a private room, lights were able to be dimmed and they even gave us a tambourine to have some fun with. The room also can be customized online before booking. I loved the selection of music, and it really made it easy to add the next songs through our phones. There is water inside the room for you as well. I ordered a tea with lemon, it was nice and warm! I would give this place a 4 star review because we had a really fun time. The food was great, the drinks were tasty, and the song selection was great. We had a great time! However, I did have a big issue here. I scheduled a surprise party for my wife in a PRIVATE suit, as they all are, with her best friends. One of them has a baby. They would not allow the baby in the facility, even though we had our own private room, and the baby had headphones to help block out sound. (The sound wouldn't have been an issue anyway) So the husband and wife took shifts sitting in the car on a cold rainy night with the baby since they wouldn't allow her in. Nobody told me when scheduling this, that babies weren't allowed. Quite frankly I don't understand the issues considering we were in a private room. She wasn't a toddler that would be running all over the place. Both parents were there too. I was extremely dissatisfied with this, and probably won't go there again for lack of communication, and really not making it right. Had I known about this issue we would have had our party at a different establishment. Spent $400 dollars for the space for 2.5 hours. read more

I hate karaoke, but I am apparently in the minority among my social circle. I have been dragged along on many an outing, from the divey-est of back alley dive bars, to private booths in rural Japan, only to have my eardrums assaulted by drunken, off-key caterwauling everywhere I go. Ugh. Fortunately, most of my friends have at least a modicum of talent. But I digress. This review is about Voicebox, isn't it? Here's my take: Voicebox provides the kind of private party service, complete with ambrosial cocktails, surprisingly succulent snacks and a superior selection of sake (6 point alliteration combo!). However, this spectacular service comes at a price. Two hours booth time alone (with a moderate sized party) will run you upwards to $200, not including drinks and snacks. It is highly recommended that you and your aspiring crooner friends agree to split the bill beforehand, so you don't end up with a nasty surprise. The song selection system is controlled via your smartphone and Voicebox's online catalog, making it simple, familiar and universal across modern devices (not to mention far less archaic than "the book" or a crusty old PC, as is typical). The waitstaff are friendly, (extremely) prompt, professional, personal and thorough in their explanations of the operation of the room, the ordering process, and keeping tabs on remaining booth time; absolutely no complaints here. Despite my own reservations, Voicebox is a fantastic choice for karaoke enthusiasts, with the caveat that it serves better as an event location, and not somewhere you end up half-drunk, looking for cheap comestibles until closing time. Go to Chopsticks for that. Come here for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. read more

We scheduled a special Tuesday evening so we could sing all night on the cheap and were super pumped! The folks were super sweet the whole time though, there were a few instances where people had to go outside to order drinks because our guy was gone for so long without checking on us. When we first arrived we were told the excited news - they added THOUSANDS of songs - ohhhh yay, so exciting. Then we started trying to grab our favorites....ummmm. GONE...like Madonna Like a Prayer....GONE.... Muse GONE.... Pink Floyd GONE. We started asking about it and were told they have basically ZERO control of their music and have some company doing everything etc etc... So we started noticing they have Rock Me Amadeus IN GERMAN...but next to not Madonna songs anyone wants to sing. Ummm...seriously? The new songs added none of us had ever heard of. My wife and I visiting portland and walking around little communities came across The Voicebox. Decided to enter to get info. The manager was very friendly and helpful and gave us a tour . We were very impressed. Not singers, however my daughter is. We decided, what a great present. Two days later we reserved a booth ordered drinks and food . Had a blast. Not a thing we would have done, if it wasn't for the great reception we received / first impression. Memories made that evening PRICELESS. Doing something out of our comfort zone, who knew. Always a blast! I love that you have your own room and can try whatever song you want!!! We typically book 4 hours. I prefer the SE location the best for the larger space. My favorite drinks include the Tokyo Mule and the Cardi B. However, don't come hungry, the food is really only good if you've had about 12 drinks....the pita tasted like a pound of salt was dumped on it. One thing I would suggest is regularly adding song suggestions! It seems like additions to the song book aren't added too often and there are a lot of good songs that aren't in the books :( read more

Private rooms, disco lighting, friendly staff, great vibes with a good selection of music. Reserve ahead of time! Use your smartphone to create the playlist. A good selection of cocktails and food (more like bar food such as tots and mozzarella sticks) to choose from. Come a little early to find street parking. The only complaint I have is the bathroom. It's unique in a way that the faucet is located above the toilet and there are signs telling people to cover the seat prior to flushing otherwise the water will be sploshed all over the toilet seat. At night, one can expect many of the people to be intoxicated in some way so I often find toilet seats wet. There are no toilet covers available either. read more

I gotta say, as good of a time as we had, we were a bit put off by the fact that this company feels it necessary to pass along a surcharge to pay for their employee health care.  From where I sit, paying appropriate health care to employees is the responsibility of the company, not of the patrons. These sort of hidden and unexpected charges are very frustrating to those of us who plan our budgeting carefully, especially when the prices are so high to begin with. There is absolutely no reason they can't just incorporate that charge into their upfront pricing.  I'm going to have to think long and hard about ever returning to this establishment while that policy remains in place. read more

Main reason I did four instead of five stars is because of the music selection, some of the songs seemed to be off YouTube and the quality was meh. Great service! Lots of mainstream songs and I love the private karaoke rooms. Food is pretty much whatever you would find at Costco in the freezer section. So don't expect anything fancy. Parking was a huge challenge, but we were eventually able to find a spot a couple blocks over. The concept of this is great, and people seemed to really enjoy it. The service seemed good, and attentive. The food seemed like reasonable bar food. The music selection was good and the videos were entertaining. We had a good group so they made it fun. It was just so incredibly hot and stuffy in the room, at times we had to air it out so all the people wouldn't sweat to death. I didn't pay for it myself so I don't know how pricing was. While the space is decent, the staff at Voicebox is less than accommodating. If feels like a huge chore to ask them for anything and they appear to have no interest in making the business any money beyond the room rental. The staff is incredibly rude and should consider working in an industry that doesn't involve customer service. Perhaps better training from management would help guide the staff to make better decision for the benefit of the business. If you are considering visiting this place to enjoy karaoke with friends, consider hosting it in your living room with a micorphone, as that would be a better experience across the board. read more

Rock all night long to your favorite karaoke! Bring your best Elton John, Metallica or even MAC Dre. No one will judge, unless you're a rockstar. Back in 2004 places like this didn't exist. One day this place came to be, and since then there are at least 4 other venues that offer this kind of karaoke in town. What is this kind of karaoke? It's bring your loud ass party kind and get a karaoke studio to yourself. Parties get there own room where they get to make the shittiest kind of noise and no one else has to listen. If you love karaoke, try a room. This place is the first of a generation to room karaoke. It is fun, but one does miss the weird crowds from a Norma karaoke bar. The rooms are clean, drinks are good and sound is amazing! My 4 star is because half the time I've tried to go they've been full, and the layout it weird with the bar not being close to the windows. SO FUN! Walked in on a Thursday night for a friend's birthday. A private room was readily available. I loved being the only ones in there and the ability to connect our phone to choose a song. Horrible bar experience. A friend and I arrived late to our groups reservation. Following checking in up front, we went to the bar to get drinks for ourselves and the group. There was 5 people behind the bar, either doing dishes or filling drink orders. There were 4 people, including the two of us at the bar. We sat at the bar for 10+ minutes without even eye contact. The employees behind the bar were just laughing and chatting to themselves as they were casually doing their tasks. Following ten minutes of waiting, my friend walked to the other end of the bar where there was a bartender and asked if we were allowed to receive service. The bartender said "yes", then turned around, put a few more glasses away, then turned back to my friend and asked what he could get for him. I refused to order a drink from the bartender at that point and said i will just wait in our room for the server to come by and take our drink. We were in our room for over 2 hours and received service twice. The first time, after being in the room for 30 minutes after our delightful experience at the bar, the server came in, asked if we wanted to order anything. We didn't answer her immediately, she feigned frustration and attempted to walk out before we had to call for her multiple times to wait to take our order. The bartenders and servers are clearly too busy to provide drinks to it's customers and make their business money and their customers feel welcome. read more

We went to Voicebox this past Sunday to celebrate my birthday. They were adequately staffed, explained their policies concisely and took excellent care of us the entire time. The room was spotless, everything was obviously sanitized and the room smelled clean and fresh. My biggest concern ahead of time was how they ensured the microphones were sanitary--well, the mics all had protective covers that (bonus) didn't distort the vocals of singers! Our server, Duffy was ESPECIALLY awesome. If I could give 10 stars to him, I would. Duffy was friendly and funny, he was always quick to come in and assist/take orders, and he was very efficient. Duffy kept our orders and tabs straight even though we ordered a bunch of food and drinks. It was obvious that he not only knew what he was doing, but enjoyed doing it. He is an asset to this establishment. Speaking of, all of the food and drinks we ordered were great too, and *wow* the chunky dark mustard that came with their giant pretzel (best eaten still warm) was absolutely delicious. Horrible customer service. I feel I was targeted because our group didn't fit in with the "employees". I go there every other month with multiple groups. One group in September, 1 guest, not me, was reminded to put on his mask twice. He was from out of state that hasn't had a mandate since 05/2021. Also, with a different group in October. Not November like Kate states. She's always rude and talks to you like you're stupid instead of being kind and reminding customers. I would ask yourself how many times you have been remind you pull your mask up or put it on. But the level Kate goes to is personal and completely unprofessional. I do not recommend and would not go. The location on NE and the location in CO had great service and staff. But in Kate's email she makes it sound like all locations indefinitely so basically don't even bother booking. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm not sure if she owns all of them or is an employee for the SE location only but I want to make sure customers are aware of who we give our hard working money to because discrimination is never okay! read more

For their customer service I give them 10. Our server and the bar staff were awesome. Where should I begin.. Our overall experience here was phenomenal. They definitely won my respect and loyalty. I will explain why the next time I'm back in Portland with friends I will be back. Now most places will rack up your bill with as much drinks as you want. Some even asking if you want more to add to your tab and their profits. Not here. After a few back to back rounds of shots from everyone in our large party taking turns to buy a round, we were courteously told to slow down and they were going to hold off on giving us any more for a little while. I found this very responsible on their part. Now some might be annoyed with such response, but I felt that demonstrated that they have true concern for their customers and their well being. As well as their ability to get back home/to their hotel safely. Unlike many other irresponsible establishments that would have just kept them coming bc we wanted them to. Bravo, Voicebox. Bravo. Very honorable. The food was great. I would highly recommend the pork belly sliders. Very yummy. The chicken wings were also good. Our orders came with generous amounts. Those specialty shots though.. super yummy. As were the sake jello shots. We had tried all of the shots. Loved them all. At the start of our visit we were in a room that the A.C. was being wonky. It wouldn't cool down. They quickly remedied this by moving us to a new room. I found it really cool that we could enter the songs we wanted through our cell phones. You can also control the room's lights and disco light with your phone. This place is so much fun! Last, but definitely not least, they have a poster at their door welcoming everyone as they are and that their establishment is a safe haven. Being very pro equality myself, I found this quite awesome. This world could use more establishments like this. They also have gender neutral bathrooms. Each stall was for one person at a time; there are four of them. Their toilet was also something I've never seen before. Very eco-friendly by having the sink built into the top of the toilet so when you flush the water you used to wash your hands is used to flush the toilet. I actually took a pic of it. After a fun night I came to a sad realization....upon arrival I was charged "gratuity" on my card for the hour above our karaoke for $24. I was not charged for the extra hour at this point, just the "gratuity" and mind you we had just walked through the door. At the end of the night when we settled up we were charged for our additional hour, with no mention of the previously charged gratuity, and my husband was paying so he was unaware. We paid around $50 in tips tonight on $150 and that certainly wasn't reasonable. I truly feel like the staff at this location took advantage of our generosity tonight and I am extremely disappointed. I won't be back and I will certainly caution my friends about the shady things they're pulling so hopefully this won't happen to them as well. read more

I love the concept of the private karaoke rooms, and the process is fairly simple- using a URL and code to access songs, they're easily moved around and there is plenty to choose from so you are sure to find a song you love. A few things I was really disappointed in- I booked a room here for my boyfriend's birthday and had a catering order of a large order of tots and a large order of pigs in a blanket. First, both orders were pretty gross even for bar food, and outrageously overpriced (especially for being gross) at $80 plus gratuity for tots and pigs and a blanket. Second, I only booked my room for 2 hours from 8-10pm and a little after 9 the food had not arrived yet. I went and tracked down a staff member and asked for it- we got it, but we only had 30 minutes left and that was hardly time to make a dent in what we ordered. It was a huge waste and I was really disappointed with how they handled that. On top of this, they charge gratuity upfront so it wasn't possible to adjust based on a lack of a service or acknowledgement of a bad experience. They had me pay gratuity at the door, added a tip line TO the gratuity line, and then you're expected to tip again on any menu items you get. I'm all for tipping for a service, but it felt excessive and a bit misleading if you aren't paying attention. All in, love the rooms themselves but our experience wasn't great and I don't know that I'd bother going back when you can get a private room at punchbowl with better food, better service, and fair gratuity pricing. read more
