I've easily passed by the Trap hundreds of times, going to and from our home. It doesn't stand out if you're coming up 52nd from Holgate, it's just a gray building with a bus stop in front. But if you're coming down 52nd from the other direction, there's many signs on the north side of the building. I'd taken a walk this morning to deal with a couple of errands and the Trap was smack in the middle of my route. Yes - I planned to sample the "best breakfast special in town" and so I did. Greeted warmly by the bartendress/wait person (whom I later learned was named Diana), I was handed a menu. It was easy to choose the special - for $6, it included a couple of eggs, toast, hash browns, and choice of sausage or bacon (and maybe ham, I don't recall). I chose wheat toast and sausage, and eggs over easy. Breakfast came fast and hot. Suffice it to say that this isn't any fancy or exotic plate - this is a six-dollar breakfast. The toast was nicely buttered, the hash browns weren't burnt, and the eggs were perfectly cooked to their over-easiness. My very minor complaint is that I only received one sausage. Two would seem to be more of the norm, no? Folks - this is NOT Mother's or the Screen Door or any place like those. This is a neighborhood bar that serves a convenient breakfast. They're neither pretentious nor expensive. Read other reviewer's posts about the environment. If your expectations are anything other than those, stay away. But if you enjoy a quick, warm breakfast in a subdued environment, come on by. I know I'll be back. read more

Enjoy this place and love the staff. Only hang up is that they are more expensive than any other bar on the strip besides one. For a place that smells heavily of urine and has disgusting bathrooms, I'm not sure how they justify pricing. I had been here a few times and did not have an issue till last night. I'll make a list. 1. Bartender kept insinuating I was drunk multiple times while I was trying to order my drink and because I was quiet. I said that is how I am normally. 2. She took my $20 bill and gave me change for a $10 bill. After I asked, she said you gave me a $10 and went back to insinuating I didn't know what I was talking about. 3. Her overall vibe and attitude was very abrasive. I happened to be the only person of color there at the time so it was weird why she kept focusing and targeting me. 4. If you're a POC, I'd just avoid this place all together. Most especially if you're male. I've learned my lesson and will stick to my usual establishments. read more

I was robbed here on the night of April 19th. They took my phone, ID, and car keys. The thieves had guns, gloves, and masks, then robbed my home and stole my car as I was reporting my items missing to the Trap. Was told there was video footage of the original crime of the men who originally took my stuff. There were only a few people in the bar that evening. The cops went to get the footage and were told the owner was out of town for a month and that it could not be retrieved by any other staff. I have reason to believe the staff were involved due to lack of cooperation with law enforcement and the organized nature of the crime. I was the first one in my group to arrive. We were meeting up to karaoke. Some guy at the bar, Victor, sent me a drink. I tried to refuse. The bar maid said that would not be good to do at all. The Trap is a fun place to hang out. When the new owners come in they did a wonderful remodel a few years back, very nice. For some reason they will not fix the plumbing in the ladies room, it always smells bad due to sinks that don't work and toilets that don't flush. I mean it is a BAR we nee to pee. Then there's the 100 year old nasty stinky carpet on the Bar side and the dance floor/video area that is a tripping hazard and due to falling apart , good thing I don't get to buzzed in there. I came for the great breakfast deal, and left still looking for a decent breakfast. It's a genuine locals dive bar, no doubt about it - video poker and lottery machines fill up several walls, with a 'dancefloor' and stage in the corner. The bar has high stools and, at the time of my visit, appeared to be growing several senior citizens from most of them. It was super early and the place had a steady stream of people who knew each other, making lots of jokes and noise. A place to mull over life's challenges in quite reflection, this is not. I ordered some breakfast and it came out quickly...don't expect instagram-worthy foodstuffs here, though. It looked much like it might if I made it at home, there wasn't much to it besides the eggs and bread. I guess you can't hope for much at the discount prices here, but you could by a week's worth of these ingredients for the same price if you were willing to cook it yourself. Except maybe the bacon, because of bacon's inherent investment value compared to other modern financial vehicles. It's not a tourist attraction, it's not a real spot for nightlife, it's a local bar with locals and some greasy diner/bar food for cheap. If you're rounding 50 and don't mind the sort of humor that revolves around weather and dirty sexual innuendo, this is your bar. Also if you like cheaper can of domestic swill and rail liqour shots. Well, I had a BLAST here Saturday night. It's karaoke night, the drinks are cheap, the staff are fun, and the crowd is HILARIOUS. Plus, I was ravenous when I got there, and I got a $6 burrito as big as my leg, which was, surprisingly, very awesome. I just haven't enjoyed myself this much at a bar in so long. It's hokey and dive-y, which is why I loved it. The karaoke library is vast, and they've got up to three mics going. You may be hating, but I urge you to cease. Karaoke is fun as hell, especially in a place like this, where everyone is gregarious and supportive, and the liquids are flowing freely. Yelpers have been too hard on this place. The Trap Bar & Grill can be just that. A trap. I used to drink a lot and found myself trapped on more than one occasion. They do have Soft-Tip Darts. A Juke Box. Video Lottery. Mega Touch Game. Full Bar Service and a Full On Restaurant of food and flavors (I have never nor will I ever eat any of! See pics for answer.) They seem to draw the early drinkers of older folks and the young'uns come out at night to get their drink/pre-funk on. The Trap is an icon of sorts after all these years. In a town that has a bar on every corner, The Trap is doing something right. Just not sure what that is, but if you want cheap drinks or cheap (and I use this word loosely) food. I live a stone's throw from this place. I say that literally and also because I've always wanted to use that phrase. In a word, it's seedy. It's pretty much the epitome of a dive bar, but not the kind of cool, hipster watering hole you think of when you hear "dive." It's more like...grandpa's booze and keno spot extraordinaire. I ordered the 2222 Special through UberEats and on the app, it asks you if you want pancakes or French toast, as well as the side of hash browns, toast, pancakes or biscuit. Did not specify how you want your eggs done. Well since The Trap sent me a box without eggs, I ended up cooking my own. Called the restaurant and the waitress said that I "didn't specify" what kind of eggs. Look, if I didn't specify, don't just send the order without eggs because the menu stated it comes with TWO EGGS. At least do the basic "sunny side up" which was what I assumed I'd get. Im a fan of cheap dive bars and so thats why this place is so comfortable to me. Cheap strong ass drinks are poured to your pleasure. My boyfriend and I stopped in for some hangover cure breakfast and were in no way disappointed. Been years since i had been in this place. Swung by on afternoon that i needed some B+G chased with a bloody mary while staring at the tv watching the ducks deal out another ass kicking. Did not even look at the menu, just ordered my choices. I was off to the races with both items in 5 minutes of sitting down. Quality of food was exactly what i was looking for. Not great, but not horrible. Drink wise, i have had better bloodies, and it is not that difficult to make them better. It is still the dark, divey, place that i remember and sometimes need to visit. My friend and I were in the area and in the mood for a breakfast bloody mary. The Trap looked to be the only bar in the area that wasn't of the "gentleman" variety, so we decided to stop in. My friend ordered two bloody marys, which were extremely strong but very, very good. I ordered a bloody mary and the Deschutes IPA on tap (can't remember the exact name). The bartender was extremely nice but the music was a bit too loud - we had to tell her our order a few times before she heard it. When we requested the bill, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the entire tab was only $14! Can't beat that. Will be back if I'm in the area again. read more

the trap has remodeled and it's a big improvement. i had come here for a bloody mary in the middle of the day and it was dark, scary, quirky, with a lot of old timer type regulars. it's now revamped, modernized but still retains the dive bar charm. They turned the front bar into the bar, and the unused old restaurant portion into the main entrance and bar. I could see a few regulars perhaps resisting the change, because it was so simple and straightforward. The room is bright is when you enter, due to natural light, bartender Diana is friendly, upbeat, and is familiar with her regular customers. They added beer taps, went from 4 to 12. Full bar as usual, really nice TV monitors, I noticed Breakfast is offered All Day. Loads of video poker going on. I've had a couple beers here, was entertained by a beer sampling with Base Camp one Friday night. I chatted with a few of the customers - it's a safe, friendly bar despite the bars on the windows. Little patio out back. Parking. Excellent Breakfast, too. They offer food to go, also. read more

I love the people that work at the Trap. Always on it and great to talk to. The inside has been newly renovated. They have moved the bar, opening up the space. Built a brand new bar, looks really good. Karaoke Wed. thru Sunday. New patio at back, can't bring your dink out yet they are still waiting for the permit to arrive. Unfortunately, the KJ last Friday night wasn't good at having singers up on proper rotation. My partner and I watched our names continue to have people put in front of us (you can track your turn to sing on the bottom of the screen). We never got to sing, our names were just continually pushed out. This was only 1 of 3 people I have seen KJ here. We both tipped when we put in our songs too. I hope that this improves. read more

This bar is awesome. It is a total Dive Bar (Dive Bars are my favorite) and has every element you'd expect from a Dive Bar. I LOVE it! It would be the kind of bar that I would own. Upon my first visit, this very attractive lady asked me for my ID. "That's cute" I said, "I'm probably older than you." She took a look at my ID and said, "Nope, I'm about 6 years older than you," blew my mind! This woman is smoking hot, and I'm just a pudgy guy in my mid forties. Now this bar is great to go to at any time, but just to make this place even cooler than it already is, they have an amazing breakfast special that consists of 2 Eggs, 2 Bacon or Sausage Strips, Hashbrowns and 2 pieces of Toast. However, since they recently revamped the place and made it al fancy and shiny, their breakfast special went up from $5 to a whopping $6! Shocking! Still a fantastic deal though. The only complaint I would have about this place is that an 8oz cup of mediocre coffee is $3. I'm sure it's bottomless, but I don't drink that much coffee. So next time I'll just have the breakfast with a water. Normally 3 Stars are what I would give a place like this, because I really do think this is a great place, but the super hot bartender lady gets a star all to herself ;) The only Dive Bar in Portland that I would give a 5 Star rating to would be the Yamhill Pub Downtown. This place is so raunchy, that I would recommend a tetanus shot before entering. It's truly a masterpiece in the world of Dive Bars. read more

Super good. The fiancé and I were craving some unhealthy eats after our respective crappy days. Ordered burgers and onion rings through Ubereats. Everything was as ordered and portions were HUGE; I had leftovers which is always nice. Burger wasn't fancy but tasted great, veggies were fresh and bacon was abundant. I look forward to visiting in person next time, as I see they have karaoke 7 days a week and lots of great Sunday food deals. The tried their breakfast special which was pretty satisfying, especially for the price. I didn't like that the price on the menu for coffee as $1.50 but they charged me $2. I asked the bartender and the said the menu was old & needed to get updated. They didn't offer any sort of refund or extra- but did pour many refills- still a great deal. read more
