I was scared to buy a 6 session Lifebooker deal from this place because I saw so many 1 star reviews, but it was pleasantly nice! You must book an appointment through email. Don't even bother calling them because they won't get back to you. I sent them over three emails before my first visit and they were very responsive and answered all my questions. The place is near Herald Sq. Their floor was pretty much a hallway with multiple doors (I uploaded a pic) with one being the reception room, across from it was the modern well-lit waiting room, and the rest were patient exam rooms. My technician was friendly. They don't numb you or give you ice which I don't like. The cooling system on the machine doesn't help. Since I did get the underarms and because she had to do a Brazilian on me, I tipped her $16. The place makes a big deal on tipping based on the original price, but no one who comes here pays the original price. Get real. We should tip based on the effort and the service. read more

I bought a groupon package of 6 sessions for full face area. When you enter, the place seems decent and clean and is. However, ill cut straight to the point that bothers me. Although Groupon suggest that you tip for the original full service price, its customary, but it seems as though if you dont tip them, they notice and seem to treat you different. At first, my laser tech was all happy and giddy and very talkative, but i believe she was expecting a tip when i didnt feel anything was done above average besides good conversation. I went to the main office to book my next appointment, mean while, the laser tech was there. The woman at the front desk asked me if I would like to leave a tip, (which urked me) and I kindly said no, I cant today. Afterwards, I noticed the laser tech shake her head in disbelief. The second session I went in for, I had the same Laser Tech. Her mood was COMPLETELY different. Not as happy to see me, not talkative, impersonal, treated me like a number waiting to get out the way. Mind you she didnt really pass the laser on all areas of my face. Another issue with these people is they never answer their phone and can be unprofessional. I actually had to leave my home and take the train to their office just to speak to someone in person to schedule an appointment. Truly unprofessional and are tip hungry. Oops! The first time, they charged me $2 for "tax," which I didn't fight them one. The second time, I lingered trying to figure out how to tip them, and they asked if I needed anything else, so I just left. THE PROTIPS: - schedule your next appointment while you are still there - bring your own ice if necessary, but don't ask them to turn down the power since it will be less effective - don't worry too much about the tip, especially if you bought on Lifebrooker and have no idea what the full price even is, tehehe The office is essentially a hallway with doors leading off of it. The front desk is in the first room, and the waiting area is in the hallway foyer. The entire place was dimly lit and a little sketchy feeling, but the rooms themselves were quite nice and welcoming. Both attendants I worked with were super nice, especially once they realized that I do not enjoy the feeling of what seems like a hundred needles sticking me. Thankfully the procedure was over in maybe 2 minutes. I have dark hair and light skin, which makes me the perfect candidate for laser hair removal. I am pleased but not thrilled with the results since hair is definitely still growing, just slower. I understand it takes 6 sessions for hair to disappear completely, so if I had coughed up the money for more treatments, I imagine I would see continuing results. read more

All 3 technicians I've had here have been great (I only recall "Lidiya"). After just 2 treatments on my legs, my legs are totally smooth up to 48 hours after shaving! It's a weird little place but they give quality treatments. It's in an office building and the treatment rooms are all spread out throughout the floor. The office building floor is actually a little crappy looking and extremely dated. However, the treatment rooms are new and tasteful looking and are not reflective of the whole building. But the whole place feels like laser hair removal factory. Yes, it's true - no one will answer your calls here. You must leave a voicemail or email them for an appointment. It's annoying but they email you back right away. They now sell small tubes of numbing cream for $5. I highly recommend arriving 30-45 min before your appt and applying the cream. ***A note for the owner - asking 20% tip of the regular price is absurd. Even the staff told me it's absurd. NO ONE comes here paying the "regular price". I'm sure 100% of people pay the Lifebooker or Groupon price. Also, you need to hire enough receptionists to handle the volume of calls you get. I'm not a big fan of leaving negative reviews. However, the purpose of Yelp is to either warn or advise. In this case consider this a 'warning' - or at least think twice before booking. Review of their laser treatment. I was about to write 'you get what you pay for', as I started out with a Groupon. I did, however, purchase supplementing treatments directly at Voila Skin Spa, and now, after having gone through their treatments (laser hair removal, front+back) I have to say that I'm not satisfied. At all. So by the end this is gonna be an expensive experience. They do promise a certain removal percentage with the 6 treatments, and sure, their laser treatments did remove a lot of hair. The issue - or problem is, that you can easily see on the treated areas where the technician did use her laser - and where she did not. Which reveals that her mindset must have been somewhere completely else than on ensuring a proper treatment. Here and there, there are hairs - other places none. All in an extremely inconsistent pattern. After a couple of treatments, during the treatments I started pointing out areas that she obviously missed. However, unfortunately that hasn't been enough. With a result this inconsistent and weird looking I need to find a laser clinic to help it out. Another one, I suppose. Again, this is not about whether this is a luxury spa or not (it is not - fine), but one should expect a proper treatment, even from a clinic like this. Avoid this place. read more

This place is AMAZING!!!! Very neat, professional, and clean look. It was my first time going to Voila Skin Spa, went for info and specials. All the ladies that were working were very sweet and gave me good advice. They weren't trying to sell me anything which I was surprised about. I had the same experience as Julie T. This was my third laser experience after good results with another company and with this location as Silk Touch. I came back under the new ownership with a new Groupon. All was well until session 4 when one laser broke down and the technician swapped to a different one and I ended up with dozens of cigar-sized burns all over the backs of my legs. It's been two months and the marks are finally starting to fade, but I still wonder if they will completely disappear. It was too embarrassing to wear skirts or shorts for the summer. The damage was too awful and ugly to explain. They were apologetic and offered me additional sessions, but it was really traumatizing so I just got my Groupon money back. Their techs seem to vary widely in experience and attentiveness, so you might be fine if you get a good tech each time, but going forward, I'd rather spend more for a place with a more consistent and professional environment. read more

A great spa for laser hair removal. Amazing results from their laser machines and their estheticians are all very friendly & professional. I bought a coupon here off of the Lifebooker website last year as I heard great things about this spa from a close friend. I have been coming here ever since & have referred numerous others to come here for their laser hair removal services. ** Note: this spa is not luxurious by any means, nor is the decor super aesthetically pleasing! It screams 'doctor's office' from the 80's with blue painted walls and fake plants. However, I would much rather get great laser hair removal from an old-school spa with great laser treatment products than go to an upscale spa and not get effective results (I've been to those too and they are not worth the $$). Therefore the rating for this review is for their actual services. Since my first review, I've been back for a second laser session and a chemical peel. I really couldn't be happier with this place - after the second laser session here (my 8th overall - I had 6 sessions at another place) I have maybe 2 or 3 light hairs on my underarms. I haven't thought about shaving in months. It's AWESOME. I came back for a peel (my first ever) because of a promotion they were running. The aesthetician who did the peel, Lauren, was a sweetheart (loved her accent!) and she was really honest with me about what to expect from the procedure. She showed me some really scary pictures, but thankfully my peeling wasn't too bad. Lauren answered all of my questions beforehand and even gave me her email address in case I needed to contact her after the treatment. I had the procedure on a Wednesday because I was told that the peeling wouldn't really start until Saturday, but for some reason my worst day was Friday and let me tell you - it is not fun to go to work looking like you're molting. Oh well. The important thing is, I'm really happy with the results - I can see a real difference in my skin after only one treatment. I don't think I'll come back as often as Lauren suggested (one peel every 2 weeks for 6 weeks total) but I'll definitely do this again. read more

The staff is polite and professional, the office is clean and nicely decorated, and the sessions are extremely quick and effective. For anyone considering laser for the first time, I would highly recommend it over waxing. Having now done both, they are relatively the same pain-wise, but laser is WAY more effective and the sessions are literally 90 seconds long as opposed to the 25 minutes that waxing sessions can be. SECOND DEGREE BURNS - Yes! I received second degree burns on my visit here. I've had laser hair removal sessions at least 10 times at other places and never experienced anything like this. I was seriously injured. What made it worse is that when I called in immediately after my appointment to ask what to do, it took them FIVE DAYS to respond to me even though they advertise that they are open 7 days a week. This place is the pits - horrible. I had to go to a doctor to get medical attention. The doctor said "they really burned you bad" and had to give two prescriptions. It took them THREE WEEKS to tell my doctor what kind of laser and setting was used on me. They also never turned over my file to the doc even though it was requested many times. As if this all weren't bad enough, when someone finally called me back, the lady was rude and quickly told me that it wasn't their fault. She said it happens all of the time and then corrected herself and said "um, well, it happens sometimes, and it's not our fault!" If this happens all the time at Voila, Silk Touch or whatever they change their name to (probably to run away from bad reviews), they should not be doing this. It is not normal. LASER HAIR REMOVAL SHOULD NOT CAUSE BURNS when done correctly. Don't trust these people to apply a laser to your skin - they don't know what they're doing and don't care what happens to you. In addition this place is grimy, dirty, dark, dingy - gross. Def not a spa. It's just a few rooms in an old office building next to psychotherapy offices. THEY DON"T EVEN GIVE YOU A GOWN, ROBE, SHEET or anything to cover up with. Spare yourself and your skin and go somewhere reputable. read more

So formerly this was Silktouch and I went here for 5 of the 6 sessions booked on groupon (they docked me a session but who am I to argue since they couldn't give me a straight answer). They were terrible when I first went, bad customer service, bad treatment and they tried very hard in the end to come out of a bad spiral but it wasn't enough. I have to say I would avoid these place and go to Pulse Laser Skincare. I had laser done with Pulse with oustanding results (picked that one up on a groupon too). Reasons why I won't be back: 1. Receptionist yelled at me when I showed up 8 minutes late due to a stopped train - had left work with 40 minutes to spare, I am not the kind of person who is late. 2. Results - they never used the full 30 minutes on my hair, which is lighter but all the same I didn't see results. They did 8-10 minutes at best and missed my ankle area (paid for 1/2 leg, expected half the leg) completely. My hair has shown no improvement. I've done laser before and seen improvement. Think it must be the lack of skill with the technicians. 3. Changing appointments is difficult, reaching them by phone is unlikely, I would try email for your best chances. As stated in other reviews they do not let you know any cancellation rules. But they might yell at you if you show up late. 4. Procedure is very bare bones, at Pulse Skincare they send you an email to explain what you need to do before your session and spend 5 minutes to tell you what to expect in the future. Here the technician will tell you they need to move to the next appointment. When I asked specific questions they seemed confused. They are nice technicians, they just seem overworked. So with all that said and done, save your money and try somewhere else. read more

Their online appointment system doesn't work, I have tried to book appointments about 3 times, initially it looks like there is availability but I always end up getting a denial on the day of the appointment. The phone number always goes to voice mail, so the only way to really book an appointment it seems is via email, which is not very easily published on the website but have yet to be able to set up an appointment after 3 months. i contacted the owner who arrogantly said they have 3000 members in the data base and my negative review wouldn't affect them. So be wary of all the "good" reviews you see here, for they may be from people who just want to save a buck. My experience at Voila WAS fairly pleasant. I purchased a six-session laser package from Groupon. Staff is professional. Facility is clean. Appointments are a bit difficult to make, but I suggest just emailing them for the quickest response. Everything was going great until my last session. My appointment was at 9am and apparently I was the first appointment of the day, so the technician advised that it would take a few minutes for the machine to "warm up". I waited patiently and I didn't mind waiting longer as long as she would provide me the most efficient treatment. I'm not sure if she was rushing, but the cooling system for the machine wasn't ready. The skin of my underarms literally SINGED and you can smell the surface of my skin burning. She said the redness and swelling would go away, but it didn't. I was left with red, burnt, painful patches that eventually tuned into scabs, and now, scars. It was a torturous experience. It's amazing to see that just that one visit turned a generally satisfying purchase into something I completely regret. read more

I GOT BURNED IN MY LEGS.... It's so sad to write a bad review, but as I always use Yelp to help me I feel that I should help the other users. I went to Voila to do the Laser Hair Removal on my legs and the attendant burned my legs. I had a lot of pain but I thought it was normal at the time, but no, my legs had lots of red spots for two weeks and afterwards they turned to white, lighter than my skin. I went to a Dermathologist doctor and he told me that I can't take sun for long time. I had these burns in January and I STILL have these very light spots in my legs NOW and I am so sad because I can't put any skirt. In the beginning they were worried and apologized a lot of times to me, but they didn't want to refund the package that I paid and didn't want to refund my co-pay for the doctor that I had to visit. They only said that they sorry for what happen to me and I have to wait to see if I will be better. I don't understand the negative reviews. I bought several deals on Lifebooker for hair removal. I am going back for my 4th treatment next week. Yes, it is slightly annoying to call, leave a message, etc. But today I just decided to email them and they got back to me with an appointment date within the hour. Easy peasy. Each time I have gone I have been in and out in literally under 15 minutes. I have been very happy with my results thus far and really, you can't beat the price! Oh, and to the reviewer who didn't leave a tip---if you can't afford to tip for a service then you CAN'T AFFORD THE SERVICE. I agree that tipping on the pre-discounted price is a bit extreme, but leave something for the poor technician! I bought some Groupons from them and they have been great at scheduling me. Started when they were SkinSpa and continued as Voila. They did have some issues w/machines breaking but were very courteous at giving notice and rescheduling clients around it. They always answer emails for scheduling, etc. Laser settings always seem good. Strong but not burning my skin or anything like that. The cool air helps but yeah.. it's a laser so it doesn't feel pleasant. That said.... I have been in for NINE sessions on my face now (upper lip,sideburns, between eyebrows) and still have tons of regrowth. They claim this is because your hormones make it grow more on your face. BUT it is there in patches. I can only guess that this is because the aesthetician (Lisa- who is very sweet and chatty) is missing spots during the treatment. That, or the laser is bad. Happy with their attitude and process. Very unhappy with results. Now I have huge patches of stubble and I can't stop shaving or I have a 5 o'clock shadow. I've spent an entire year staying out of the sun to do this and it looks terrible. Would've been better off keeping my sideburns as they were to begin with than being stuck forever in between with patches of hair! I have a few more sessions in my groupon so going to keep trying but I can't imagine it'll be any better than after NINE sessions! :( read more

I have been getting laser hair removal treatments for about 3 years now.I've had a total of 18 sessions done all over my body, 13 of which were from Voila Skin Spa. I found a groupon for Voila Skin Spa that offered 6 full body treatments. You would think that it means the session is done when they have completed the areas on the body that need treatment, but no, they only give you an hour for a full body treatment. I have been treated by all of the technicians and needless to say out of the 5 that were there at the time only 2 are efficient and precise. Lidiya and Ahuva(no longer there). The other technicians miss spots consistently and do not put the laser to its appropriate levels especially Lisa. If you can avoid Lisa, you should, she misses a lot of spots when lasering and you end up leaving very patchy. I had to do so many sessions because they continuously miss spots, therefore i started requesting Ahuva, until she left, then began requesting only Lidiya. read more

This is the third laser hair removal place I tried and so far I would say its the best. I booked 6 session (via a groupon) and came here during a year's period. My thoughts: Good: - Place is mainly dedicated to laser hair removal and quite large so overall experience was pretty professional, with most technicians I had the impression they actually knew what they were doing. - Conveniently located close to Penn stations - In all my session they used moderns machines, all air cooled and never really uncomfortable for me - Staff was always very friendly - Waiting time with app. max 15 minutes which I think is not too bad Bad: - Appointment scheduling can be a real challenge, if you are not able to plan ahead, this place is not for you. I had to schedule appointments for three month in advance because they were booked. My recommendation always have already the next two sessions booked in case they sell a great groupon again... - Quality of technicians varies a bit. 4/5 were good, last one was a bit of a let down (think machines was set too weak), so if you find someone you like try to stick with her. Note: Rightfully so they are serious about no treatment when you are tanned, worth keeping that in mind for the summer. Since I had a good experience with a one session laser Tx deal with Depi4ever, I was in search for another laser Tx deal. I looked for a deal in NYC because there are more deals of everything and I was visiting back home. =D After much comparing and reading reviews, I decided to buy a deal which was 3 sessions (small area) for $69 with Voila Skinspa on Lifebooker. $23 per session... Seems reasonable to me. Depi4ever's deal was $25 per session. Now laser Tx is no joke and I intend to find the best for my sensitive skin. Despite some negative reviews, I agreed on a few and overruled some. I mean really?!... You come to an appointment late and don't get the full service, well that's on you. For those who has had a job that deals with appointments (I am a therapist so I know all about appointments), if you come late then it is not fair to those who come on time but now has to wait because of your lateness. Do you go to work late? I don't think so. =P One thing I do agree was the phone call which is why I docked a star off. Let's see... So when I got my deal I called the number and left a message. Someone did call me back on the same day and an appointment was made. Later on, I had to reschedule my appointment so I called the place and left a message. I didn't hear back for two days so I called again and left a message. Someone returned my call on the day and a reschedule appointment was made. As the day approach soon, I needed to change my appointment again (I know, I know my bad. =P) I called and left a message, and called, and called for a few days and no one answered the phone. Are they not open for business? Geesh. =P After not getting through, I decided to keep my appointment. The place definitely needs to improve their phone system by returning customers' phone calls as well as picking up the phone during business hours. If I had missed any calls from my 5-line phone in my days working as an administrative assistant, I would have been fired. =P Other than that, the ladies I spoke with over the phone sounded nice and accommodating. The day of my appointment, I arrived 10 mins early like I was told to because I had to fill out some paper work. The front desk girl greeted me and instructed me to sit in the waiting area and signed some papers. I didn't wait long before my aesthetician person came and escorted me to the room. I wish I remember my aesthetician name; one of those crazy names involving too many vowels and had x, y, and z. Lol. =P Other than the name, she was nice and talkative, I'm guess the talking part was to distract me from the pinching pain of my underarms. Now for the laser treatment experience. Tx did not take very long. Now I have sensitive skin so I felt the pain as she zaps away. After a few zaps, I kind of got use to it. Like I mentioned before, my aesthetician talked to me to distract me from the pain. Tx was fast, like about 7mins tops for the underarms session. Laser method was different from the one I had before at Depi4ever. This one blows cool air while it zaps away. My overall experience with Voila Skinspa was good. I still have 2 more deals left and hopefully the laser Tx will continue to be good... And their phone service improves. =P read more

A friend of mine recommend VSS to me because they were offering a very affordable promotion for 6 sessions. Firstly, regard all positive reviews for this place with a grain of salt. I have heard around that they offered discounts to users who gave them positive reviews. That's called bribery. The techs at Voila Skin Spa are nice enough. The treatments are lightning quick which is good. But considering the intimacy of disrobing and having someone shine a laser at your body, i could not ask for a less personal, more robotic experience. The primary problem with VSS is that their customer service is absolutely deplorable. Nobody checks voicemails or returns calls. Emails are encouraged, but when I emailed to reschedule an appt (1.5 weeks in advance) i received no response. When i used the website to request a change, I still didn't hear for 3 days, and when somebody did get back to me, the only appointment available was an an inconvenient time. When I mentioned to the woman at the front desk that I was having trouble reaching someone, she was very sweet and basically agreed that it's a huge problem that many customers have. She gave me some suggestions of other ways to get in touch. However, if it's a problem many customers have, why don't you fix it? The reason I am giving 3 stars is that the actual service is good. I noticed a substantial reduction in hair growth and no damage to my skin. The people weren't total jerks, but my standards are higher than that--i don't expect to be treated like a queen but i also think a baseline level of customer service is appropriate, and that includes getting back to customers and having some kind of reliable means of getting in contact. As far as I'm concerned, there are MANY laser spas in NYC and I have no doubt that better service can be found elsewhere. read more

I bought a deal (I believe through Lifebooker) for 10 sessions of laser hair removal on a large area, which I used for my upper legs (front and back each count separately). I've been using deal sites to try various laser hair removal places in the city, and I'm a great candidate for it (pale skin, black coarse hair), so I have a basis for comparison. Voila is okay. The machine used is not as powerful as I've experienced elswhere, though that also seems to mean it is not painful. I definitely saw a reduction in hair, but not the same progress I saw in a similar number of treatments for other body parts from other laser providers. However, they seem to run frequent promotions and, if you are looking for a reduction instead of a complete removal, may be a good option. As other reviewers have noted, the appointment system is less useful and responsive than I would like, though I've always been able to get someone helpful on the phone. read more

I got Groupon deal for 6 sessions full body Laser for $700. This place is amazing they were professional as well as friendly. I am going to have my last session next weekend and till now I never had any complain. Because of groupon deal they will be busy to answer calls but just leave them voice mail or email they always get back to you on time. I have had laser treatment done at one other place. I prefer Voila by far. The machine they use is super fast (like 2 minutes for a small area fast) and almost pain free. No need for spreading jelly on the skin and painstakingly covering the area like at the other place I went to. Voila's machine never touches your skin, and it blows cool air to make it less painless. So much better. If you have had the more painful version, you will appreciate this. Good prices too! Caveat: Because I started my laser treatment at another place, I have been using Voila for touch ups. So I cannot really vouch for how well they do when you have far more hair that needs removing. read more

Voila Skin Spa has terrible service. They just changed their name (used to be called SilkTouch Laser), probably because they have horrible reviews. The receptionist is always rude and they are never on time with appointments. The location is in a dirty, gray place in midtown. Not worth your time. So far I am very happy with the procedure and the results. The place is clean and the staff is kind -they are aware of the pain and encourage you during the session- and professional.
