While it's never fun to have a procedure done Vold did a great job for my wife... She just had a PRK procedure done today Jon and Christine were awesome and helped put her mind at easy. She initially thought she would have the "SMILE" procedure, however because of some eye issues she was not a candidate for that and had to choose PRK and was understandably very nervous about this and the recovery time. Staff was awesome, building was clean, observing social distancing and mask because of COVID. Now we move to the recovery phase but so far the first two phases have been great and highly recommended! read more

TL;DR - Unprofessional, unsanitary, time-consuming, and impersonal treatment of patients without meeting the doctor who will actually perform the expensive, optional surgery. I went to Vold Vision after another facility suggested I look into Lasik or a lens replacement procedure. Like other reviewers, I waited for 30-40 minutes to be called to the back. The tech just marched me to an exam room where she asked me questions and then handed me a case and told me to remove my contacts. There was no sink in the room and she was irritated that I asked to wash my hands. After that, she hurried me from room to room to complete a series of tests without word one about their purpose. I waited in a second waiting room for another 40 minutes. I could hear someone running through a spiel about lens replacement surgery with another patient. I decided to leave because I was getting weak from low blood sugar (now 1.5 hours in), but the optometrist (I guess, no one actually told me that) escorted the other patient out and then took me to yet another room, where she slapped a little antibac gel on her palms and proceeded to exam my eyes with her bare hands. Even in non-Covid times, that would bother me. Lasik wasn't even mentioned. The optometrist (?) really seemed to be selling the lens replacement. She didn't mention Lasik. I asked if I'd be meeting the surgeon and was told no, not until the surgery. That was the final straw for me. Any decent surgeon should take the time to speak to his patients beforehand. On top of that, he is charging $8000 for an *optional* procedure that isn't covered by any insurance company -- it seems wise to invest five minutes in meeting your prospective patients. I respect the OD's education, but the MD is the only one allowed to perform the surgery and should be the one speaking to the patients he proposes to treat. That's standard across the medical profession outside of regular tests, like colonoscopies, etc. Finally, I was then taken to the business manager's office and again given info on lens replacement, this time with a payment plan prefilled with my info. When I asked about Lasik, both people said only that I'd still have to wear readers, as if that was all I needed to know. I couldn't leave fast enough at that point. What a waste of time and energy, and possibly money -- no one mentioned anything about the cost for today. I know this review is long, but so was the appointment. read more

Vold Vision deserves 5 stars for the following; Patient care is consistently above average. The doctors are prompt, courteous, and speak with me each and every time as a partner in determining the best medical options for myself. I never feel rushed. I feel safe and above all I feel informed. The staff is always pleasant and greets me with a smile. Their waiting room is extremely well appointed. Coffee, tea, water, plug ins for electronics, and tv. Not that I ever get to use these because they are always on time to take me back to see the doctor! The bathrooms, waiting areas and exams rooms are spotless. I am a fan of Vold Vision and I think you will be too! read more

I hope your experience is better than mine, but think twice before you go there. 1. My visit started with a 2 hour wait. Yes, they simply forgot about me. While waiting I stopped by the reception desk several times to ask. One of the receptionists said "I just got back from lunch and don't know anything about you". And she didn't even try to ask anyone else; just stayed there. The other realized that it was a problem and got things going. 2. They wanted to re-do all tests again, although I just completed them 5 days ago at the referring facility. Why? So they can charge more money. 3. I refused to do the tests and told them that I'd leave and go to another clinic. Few minutes later they ran after me in the parking lot and asked to come back, and said that the tests were not required (!!!). 4. I came back. They did quick checking of my eyes. As they were doing it I realized that Dr Vold had students practicing on patients which was not disclosed to me. Even quick checking performed by inexperienced staff caused physical discomfort. 5. Dr Vold is all about clinical trials and experiments. I got an impression that he pretended as if he listened and proceeded to sell me on the clinical trial idea. Some of the things he said: we will not charge you; there's an opportunity for you to get paid; this is good if you have financial problems; etc. (Financial problems? Really? Why did he make that assumption?) When I refused he lost interest and walked away telling his staff to get me ready for a regular procedure. 6. To get me ready they put numbing/anesthetic drops. And then they forgot about me Again. So by the time the doctor (not Vold) walked in, the medicine was barely working. 7. The procedure was painful. They had to stop and do more anesthetic. It was a traumatic experience. 8. Icing on the cake: this was my second visit. You may ask what happened on the first visit? The office was closed. Later they explained that as there were not a lot of patients, the decision was made to close early. (Even though I had an appointment!). So they moved my appointment to another facility 15 miles away and never told me about it. I feel compelled to share this experience so you know what to expect from Vold Vision. read more

Being skilled physicians will only serve you well if your business is well run. I have been a patient for about two years, and I am sorry to say that today, I made the decision to seek professional eye care elsewhere. Each and every visit there has been at minimum a two hour wait past appointment time. Each time there is a different reason for the wait. That is a pattern, not an unusual occurrence. The assistants move you from waiting room to waiting room, exam room to exam room in an effort to appear you are being attended. They do their best to not make eye contact when walking through the wait area as patients are wondering what in the world is going on. In addition, getting follow through and response from the billing department is a challenge at best. I made three calls, waiting several days between calls before finally getting through. At this writing, I am still waiting for a refund of overpayment made to Vold Vision six months ago. It's not a well run business. They should do better and value patients time. read more

This is the 3rd procedure my husband has had at Vold, and each time, his appointment time has been changed last minute, and every time, it still starts at least 2 hours late. There's never an explanation. They also bill post-op follow ups as regular visits, even though they are indeed post-ops, but that way they can charge more. I'm sure he's a good doctor, but if you go there, be aware of their office practices. And pack a lunch...you'll be there all day. read more

Just left Vold Vision after waiting 2 1/2 plus hours for a "consultation ". Very disappointed in the scheduling of this clinic. This was a referral from my optometrist to have some protein build up removed from a lens. I arrived about 10 minutes early out of consideration for the office. After a 45 minute wait I was taken back for exams and then taken back to the waiting room. Where I waited and waited. At one point, after asking how much longer, I was told there were 5 people ahead of me. Finally, frustrated, I decided to wait no longer. When advised I was leaving the receptionist called another person up who said that the doctor had had an emergency surgery and was behind. I understand things happen that you have no control over. However there is this thing called common courtesy which, in my opinion, was not used today. I should have been informed of this delay early on and given the option to wait or reschedule. I see from other reviews there are other instances of long wait times so I have to wonder if "emergency surgery " is the fallback excuse. I will find another doctor even if I have to return out of town to my previous doctor. NOT RECOMMENDING! read more

Recently changed eye doctors, the staff is incredibly friendly and efficient. I saw Dr. Hendricks, she was very confident in her skills, extremely personable, very receptive to what I had to say, easy to talk to, and that made me feel very comfortable with the service I was getting. It was quick and effortless. I have nothing but positive things to say about her and Vold as a whole. This office is fantastic. Both myself and my husband had LASIK done the same day; and not one moment went by when we didn't feel that they took a personal interest in helping us see better. Specifically, Dr Vold, Dr McFarland, Nicole, and Christine. From our first contact, Christine was forthcoming with information yet not pushy or demanding (as we've seen from other offices). She freely shared her personal experience during the after hours event and I admire that. We did not have a lot of interaction with Dr Vold; however, we know our sight is a direct reflection of his skill and passion to help others. Dr McFarland was very friendly and patient with our questions and always informative, going above and beyond with his answers insuring we understood. Clearly an expert in his field and I'm thankful he was a part of our care. Nicole was my life saver. She was beyond caring and made us feel completely welcome, as if we were old friends. She was one who held my hand during the experience and talked me through my overwhelming anxiety. I will always be grateful for having been in her care. I've always heard: "The brightest stars are those that shine for the benefit of others." I believe each of them shine in their own way. I don't recommend anyone go here. I called in to schedule my appointment and the lady that took my call was amazing. She answered all of questions, helped me with my insurance, and got me in pretty quick. I don't remember her name..but keep up the good work. The doctor was amazing. Answered all of my questions and was was very helpful. When it came time to check out, Barbara was not only rude to me, but also the patient that was in front of me. (I remembered her name so that I could write this review.) I WILL NOT recommend anyone to visit here until they get rid of her and I will ask. Don't see Dr. Napier. We had an appointment with Dr. Napier, where we waited an hour to see her at the first appointment to just become established as a patient. I was excited to have a pediatric ophthalmologist in our area because our pediatric ophthalmologist is almost two hours away. Her assistant was very kind and helpful. Dr. Napier was kind, did not tell us anything new or different and charged us $115, and I have good eye insurance, for the appointment. The appointment took about 3 hours all together. The other pediatric ophthalmologist is Tulsa just takes our $35 co pay and does not overcharge. He also usually gets us in and out within 30-40 minutes So we had a follow up appointment scheduled and the day before their office calls because she had a sudden emergency surgery the morning we were scheduled, after waiting 5 weeks. They wanted to know if i could come in the afternoon, which we cannot because i had asked off for the morning 5 weeks before. Then I felt like this was weird and I asked, "Is this a common thing from this doctor to cancel with such short notice and have emergency surgeries?", and I was assured it was very unusual for this to happen. So I wait a couple weeks, ask off work again for my son's scheduled appointment and I get a call the Friday before my Tuesday appointment and she has another emergency surgery and needs to reschedule me. I laughed and said I even double checked last time that this does not happen very often and here we are. So needless to say, I will be driving two hours again to a doctor who has never cancelled, is quick and efficient and does not over charge his patients just because he can. Don't waster your time and money at Vold Vision seeing Dr. Napier. Some of the other doctors might be more organized. read more

Well, now I am a little over 5 months from reattaching the retina surgery in my right eye and repairing my left eye so it didn't detach as my right eye had from what Vold Vision had done to me eyes. The vision in my left eye is good now however the vision in my right eye since it is coming back is distorted. With the vision finally coming back I'm told that the improperly done PRK procedure that had been done on my right eye at Vold Vision not only disturbed and broke the seal of the Lasik flap of over 20 years ago but the botched PRK performed at Vold Vision has drastically over corrected my right eye making it severely far sighted! Steven Vold should have his medical license revoked. How many patients eyes need to be damaged by him and his staff before something is done? read more

I got Lasek here, and while the procedure itself went fine, this facility has never run on time. Out of my 5 or so appointments, I think all of them have run an average of an hour behind. They don't really seem to have any empathy for patients who wait forever for their mediocre services and the waiting room can be empty or full and the wait remains the same. If I didn't win the Lasek procedure at half price from a silent auction, I would have gone to a different establishment. Bottom line: clear your schedule if you have an appointment here. It is true about the wait in the lobby for your appt. It does seem excessive, however, well educated and innovative medical care in Northwest AR is so behind the times that an award winning multi state educated Dr. Like Dr. Steven Vold seems a blessing for me and I am certain for others. I would like to see a little more attention to the details of explaining the procedures step by step along with costs. There are those whom apparently are there to do that, yet they don't appear to be able to address as much knowledge about procedure and costs as might be requested. Arrived 30 minutes early as requested to fill out paperwork. Sat for an additional 30 minutes before being put in an exam room. Spent that time listening to a staff member explain to someone that even though someone didn't complete the paperwork correctly because the individual signed the paper he was responsible for the full amount even thought the paperwork was for only half the work. The tech seemed nice enough. Only saw the doctor for 5 minutes. When l finally got to check the clerk had no idea if I owed anything or not. They dilated my eyes and did not give eye protection for the drive home. That was torture driving in to the west. I'm not going back. I can't imagine what the bill will be. read more

Not impressed. I have been an eye patient since I was in the 4th grade. I have healthy eyes and I am very near-sighted. I am so near-sighted that I have never been a candidate for Lasik surgery. I chose Vold Vision because it is one of the providers for my vision insurance. Front office staff was very nice. They handled my check-in quickly. At the end of my visit, my insurance payment was handled quickly and correctly. My wait before being called back was only five to ten minutes. A very nice woman introduced herself and started my appointment. This nice woman was a chair-side helper... not a nurse... not a technician... and did not present her credentials to me. I knew she was not the Optometrist, because he is a man. However, she did my ENTIRE eye exam!! Everything. I was shocked! She was in with me for almost an hour. Michael R. McFarland, O.D., the Optometrist came in for the last five minutes of my visit. He looked in each of my eyes with a light and then immediately started pushing surgery. He pushed cataract surgery (I don't have cataracts). He pushed Lasik surgery. He pushed a surgery on my retina that I have repeatedly been advised I should never have. When I told him I was not interested in surgery, he said, "Then why are you here?" When I explained that I was only there for an eye exam and to see if I needed new glasses, I could tell immediately that he was finished with me. Done. Again, not impressed. February 24, 2015 Christine from Vold Vision called to speak about my experience and my review on Yelp. At the end of our conversation, she asked that I remove my review. I told her I would not do that, but I will add a note to it. She seemed very concerned that I did not have a positive experience. She said that Michael McFarland generally does his examinations and that something must have been going on that afternoon to keep him from doing mine. She offered a discount at Uptown Optical for my negative experience. Also, Michael McFarland called me last Friday while I was at work, so I could not talk. He expressed dismay that I was not happy and said, "But, we liked youuuu... ". I just got a "Smile" procedure done here which is a variation of lasik. I had absolutely terrible vision with -8.0 contacts and glasses as thick as a mixing bowl. The consultation and pre- op went fairly fast and the staff was always super nice and helpful. On procedure day they walked me through everything that would happen, and the people talking to you have actually had lasik done so their not blowing smoke. Dr. Vold is very encouraging during surgery and Dr. Cox as well as Dr. McFarland were very clear and thorough with the examinations of my eyes pre and post surgery. Great staff. I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from going into this facility. I took my elderly mother there in January and we sat in the waiting room for over 3 hours before being seen. They put her through unnecessary testing and tried to push surgery. Later to find out it was unnecessary through a second opinion. I tried for weeks leaving numerous messages for a Susan after receiving an outrageous bill. She will not receive your calls and she will not return calls!! Dr. Vold is nice enough to get you through the doors, but there are plenty of other doctors in our area who are 10x as competent, care about patient satisfaction, and not as "surgery happy" as he tends to be. If you go to this dr. I would highly recommend you get a second opinion before considering surgery here. read more
