I recently purchased a car from this dealership, and I have never had a worse experience in my entire life.... for starters before this I had previously just owned a car which i ended up having to part ways with unexpectedly it had taken me a long time to finally come across a dealership that genuinely wanted to help me in the terrible situation I was in. for starters the car I had owned previously i had put down a large lump sum of money and I was paying that car off consistently for 6 months it was my first time owning a car on my own i did everything all by myself so how come it was so easy for me to purchase that car on my own but not when it came to purchasing a vehicle here.... I had seen a listing for a car at this dealership at a reasonable price seemed nice and all until I actually got to the dealership, they really didn't tell me anything that was going on with the car like the broken tire sensor, the broken glove box, the squeaky windows, the connections of the power of the car, giving me a key with a dying battery. anyways I ended up having to get a cosigner for my new car because this dealership was hardly willing to work with me but anyways having a cosigner was not supposed to be a problem who knew it would end up causing such a fuss!!!!! after purchasing the car, they had contacted me again about how they messed up my paperwork they told me one thing and told my cosigner another thing okay.... anyways so come to find out my supposedly new car starts having all these issues and while me and my cosigner are back at the dealership again, they still had all the paperwork WRONG anyways told me they fixed it I ended up making an appoint to get my car worked on. here's where the real fun begins!!!! so I get to my appointment can't find anything in the system with my name yippie anyways get that figured out I waited probably like 3-4 hours for a window squeak a glove box and a tire sensor and my screen all to find out all they did was replace my tire sensor and "fix" my window yeah my windows fixed but it looks like they took a metal sponge to it so now my whole window needs replaced!!! on my brand new car !!!!!!!! and mind you originally, they told me to go to another dealership.... like I'm sorry don't sell cars that aren't Volkswagens if you physically aren't capable of it??? anyways so I tried contacting the corporate and they told me they couldn't do anything because my car isn't a Volkswagen and it's a private owned dealership so like okay whatever anyways remember the paperwork issue??? yeah, they were supposed to send me and only me the payment papers for my auto loan and guess who they didn't get sent to ME yeah that's right!!!! Cooks is now owned by Sonic Automotive and I must say their online prices are very competitive although just like many of my experiences with Cooks sales, if Teena isn't there, re-think your business. I hate to cast shade on the sales team because they maybe simply awesome with our issue a result of inexperience, poor communication or tough luck. Bottom line, my daughter had a car lined up and had an appointment to finalize things only to have another salesperson steal it and sell it. Was in the market to look for another vehicle. After careful searching my husband found me 2 cars. Came to see the cars in question, and only of the 2 was available. The car was not in any way cleaned nor prepped for a test drive. There was hair and trash all over. There were personal items in the car as well as the trunk. Checked under the hood and there was sand and grit all in the engine area. Was beginning to give up when we saw another car on the lot with low miles, and we test drove that one. After talking with Cody, we started to crunch the numbers, while waiting we looked at other cars online and saw another car but it was not at there and would need to be transported. So we scheduled to come back to see it and test drive it. The next day, received a text from Cody to confirm if we were still coming for our appointment. I said yes. Then after working on some things, I called to talk to Cody regarding the sale details, but spoke with a manager, who informed me that they had direct connection with SECU but needed the fax # for the paperwork. The whole approach was starting to feel off. Yet was told Cody was with another customer and told he would call me in 10 min. Instead I got a text message hours later asking what time would I be there? When I texted back, asking was there a problem, received no reply. So I called to speak to him. The whole conversation felt like he didn't want our business and at that point I informed my husband and told me to cancel the appointment. I guess I was not the "right" customer for this location. The former ownership was much better. Was driving my car across country so I took it to the service dept. for a check up. They told me I needed to have the Brake system and cooling system flushed and that my rear brakes would need to be replaced soon. So after driving 2000 miles I thought I better take it to the local VW dealer. They said the brakes were fine and that neither would need to be replaced. They did say that my break fluid was very dirty and hadn't been changed and that the cooling system needed to be flushed. I went on line and pulled up my servicer report from Fallston and showed the Service tech. He said that no way either of them were flushed and replaced, they were way too dirty. It does all seem to fit, the Fallston Service dept. was a mess with remodeling, 3 different people asked me, after I brought the car in and was sitting there for an hour or so, why I was there. Well, my family has always been loyal to VW and this dealership in the past, no longer. I recently leased a car on a 4 year/10k mile option. On leasing it was the show model and had a few thousand miles on it already. On the lease, it reflected only a couple hundred. I asked them to change this before signing but I got reassurance from multiple employees that this would be done on the official copy and that it would be noted in my file, that I was not to worry about it. I figured this could be a problem, but chose to trust this company, that my family has done business with many times before. Upon returning my lease, of course there was no record of this mileage and despite being careful for 4 years not to go over mileage, I had to pay large fees ~500 bucks at the end for going over mileage. I couldn't care less about the money, but it is clear dishonesty and predatory leasing. I will never use this company again and I will likely never purchase or lease VW again, because of this dishonesty. When I brought it up with the VW company, they said it was a local dealer issue and they would not help. I have since convinced my family to no longer purchase or lease through this dealership, and they are happy getting their VWs elsewhere. Went for a oil change for a 2012 Golf R. Had to return because I had white smoke out of my exhaust pipes. So I check the dip stick; and the oil level was way over the max line. The tech poured in 5.8 quarts instead of 4.9 quarts which is what the book calls for. I call up the advisor he said bring it back. I said should I have it towed or drive it? He said drive it. They drained some oil not sure if it was they the oil plug in the pan, or a extractor thru the dip stick housing. They got oil everywhere on the inside of my cabin, I had to go inside for a 3rd and a 4th time to get the mess cleaned up.. I am worried about engine damage from this much oil in the engine. This review is applicable to purchasing a used vehicle at Cook Volkswagen. Most internet prices do not include fees for taxes/tags, this is to be expected. However, be aware that Cook will include an additional $1500-$2000 on top of the Internet price for their used inventory, in some cases the cost is warranted. When you are looking for used vehicle, this cost difference can be a deal breaker and be extremely frustrating as you will only be made aware just before you are ready to purchase (unless you know to ask ahead of time, so for your own sake, ASK up front or come prepared knowing the fee is there). Per Yelp responses, they will apologize for not communicating effectively, but this obviously has not made a positive change to their process. It is not the fault of an individual sales person, it is the responsibility of the owner of the business to change their sales tactics. If Cook's wants to improve, include a notice of the fees in the disclaimer or adjust your internet price to be fair. People generally spend a serious amount of time researching and filtering vehicles based on cost before making a commitment, these purchases are not trivial to most. You are wasting everyone's time and attempting to take advantage of your potential customers by disclosing this so late in the process. PS - If you were the sales person I had to communicate with earlier today, sorry for being unpleasant, it is really not your fault. To the business, you may not have lost the sale if this information could have been discovered much earlier in the process. Found my dream vehicle to be a second vehicle at a great price online at this dealership. Submitted app, was contacted the following Monday morning. Received multiple alerts indicating credit was hit by dealership. Got a callback requesting paystubs, provided requested documents. No follow up. Reached out to the salesman and was advised sales mgr would be contacting me soon. Received additional alerts indicating credit was hit again by dealership. Salesman contacts me requesting additional information (employment status, additional paystub/salary, etc.) and inquires about my salary. I advise him that I have been employed with same employer for 5+yrs, he then says the salary entered into application didn't add up. I inquire how and I further explained the application explicitly indicated gross income, not net income and so that's the figure that was entered into the application and also volunteered information (already public knowledge) advised him of increased salary effective Nov 1. He says sales manager or him will followup soon. No one reached out to me from that point, and I am still receiving multiple alerts further damaging my credit yet no vehicle, no followup, nothing. All this and I never even got to test drive the vehicle (dealership is about 40+ miles from my house hence why everything was done online). Would not recommend this dealership! read more

I dropped my car off for a repair (the part was ordered and arrived) at 10am. At 4pm, I returned to only hear from the Service Associate, "Unfortunately, the technician couldn't get to your car today". No apology... no explanation. Brandon sold me a car and told me that I couldn't purchase the vehicle without the "Premium Plus Appearance Protection" because they apply it to all new and used cars. He explained that scratches and paint chips are covered, I found out that neither of those are covered. Fast forward a couple months, my financial institution is contacting me because they did not send the title and despite the many letters that were sent to this car dealership, they have not responded. I have contacted their parent company, sonic automotive, and to no surprise, no one answers the phone or emails. We visited Cook Volkswagen today, and purchased a 2017 Ford Escape. We found the vehicle, along with others of interest, by visiting Cook's website directly. The website is very user -friendly, and allows very detailed searches. Upon arrival at the dealership, we were greeted by Robert Damrow. Robert is friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. He quickly determined our needs by asking appropriate, open-ended questions. During the test drive, Robert explained all of the features of the vehicle, of which there were many. He also demonstrated the use of functions that were not self-explanatory, and patiently answered our questions. He gets extra points for giving us time to decide without being pushy or impatient. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name if the gentleman in the Finance/Management office, but he was also very friendly and efficient. Documents were prepared quickly and efficiently, and the freshly-washed vehicle was waiting for us at the door. Robert earned more points by syncing my phone to the car. This was an extremely pleasant car-shopping experience (something I usually dread). I would highly recommend Cook Volkswagen and Robert to anyone shopping for a vehicle. The icing on the cake.... Anyway, the price they listed online was just shy of $12K. Once we start talking to the guy and he adds all the fees and taxes, it's up to $15k. I tell him pretty darn quick that I understand not putting all of the taxes online is one thing, but trying to add 25% to the cost is something else altogether. He said "some of that is tax! we can't do anything about that!". Tax was just 5.3%. Where the hell does the other 19.7% come from? WOW, I wish I read these reviews before driving an hour to this place, because here comes more of that same.. My boyfriend and I went to this dealership after finding a Jetta we were interested in on cars.com. The car was listed at $5,695. We took the car for a test drive, everything was checking out (mostly- the heat didn't work), and once we were done with pleasantries, we went inside to talk business. Once we got down to numbers, our $5,695 car instantly DOUBLED to $10,785. DOUBLED. Like, 2x the price he told us.. Like, almost $5000 more.. WTF, what just happened? He attempted to skim over this minor detail, talking fast, but we said woah, hold the phone, how does that work? Our salesman turned to computer monitor towards us, dickishly, the cars.com ad pulled up, and pointed under the price to where it stated 'does not include tax, tags, title and dealership fees'. Okay,obviously buddy, but that doesn't account for $5000. When we asked for a breakdown of the price, our salesman told us, "Aw figuring that stuff out is like rocket science, I don't even know how to do it! To make a list that says car = this price, tax = this price, etc? Now he was getting condescending. We told our salesman (before numbers were flying) we would either buy the car outright or get a loan from Pentagon Federal. He insisted we apply for financing, just to see the comparative rates; long story short- the first APR he brought back to us was 15%. I kid you not. (Side-note: If we were blind, deaf, and dumb and took that rate, car price is now tripled.) After reallllly pulling some strings, talking to some friends, breaking some rules, you know, all that nice stuff they don't do for just anyone- they got it down to 10%, then to 7.5%, as we were pulling out of the parking lot he ran up to our car and told us man, he would be in some trouble, but he knew we loved the car, so he could do 5%. Resisting the urge to run him over, we left. They then called both of our cellphones several times. Random notes: -Our salesman told us mid-chuckle, sandwiched between lots of costs he was throwing around, maybe hoping that we wouldn't catch it, that the MD state inspection costs $1,500. Yep. -Our guy kept mentioning that he was a 'Christian fellow', this seriously came up several times, unsolicited, in less than an hour. I think this was a tactic to make us think, 'Hey! A man of god! He would never dick us over!' -We wanted to buy the car outright initially (before knowing the price was twice the listing), an idea that they did not acknowledge, entertain, nor touch on. When we insisted, our salesman kept throwing lower APRs at us. The bottom line is when they saw we were a young couple, new to car buying, the blind-leading-the-blind, they turned into rabid dogs smelling blood and shamelessly treated us like idiots while smiling through their teeth at us. We all know used car salesmen cliché, but man, they truly embodied it. We bought a similarly-priced car yesterday from a different dealer and after all was said and done, the price went up only $700. My experience with this dealership was fantastic. Teena is an excellent salesperson: welcoming and professional. It is too bad Yelp mostly attracts the bad reviews, but I am sure there are many satisfied customers. I arranged the purchase (Passat SE) by phone from Massachusetts, then flew down to pick it up. Everything was ready and organized for me when I arrived. It was completely enjoyable and smooth transaction. A Note to Buyers: If you choose to by a new car from any dealership, do your research, but know that the price is always 3-4 thousand more than advertised due to various fees/taxes. Avoid this place if you can. I echo the others here in the frustration of buying a used car from them. Wish I had read these reviews before. They will charge you 2-3k more than the sticker price as a tactic. You can talk them down and (knowing from my car research) we did end up with a great deal on our car. In the deal we negotiated some repairs, such as some upholstery fixes etc. Getting the list of repairs done has been painful, to say the least. I'm now on my second visit for repairs and the guy we bought the car from isn't even here and didn't bother to tell me. On my first visit, the car was here for 3 days and they fixed one thing. On this visit I've now learned I will have to come back a third time. After that, I will never ever come here again. Horrible communication (aka lies) and if you want the stuff the promise, be prepared to be annoying about it or they'll never do it. read more

I agreed with the reviews regarding the used car sales department. It's ridiculous how they charged you for freight, inspection fee and reconditioning fee. Inspection fee costs $1,500, which sounds really crazy considering it should been inspected BEFORE it got to the dealership. Freight fee costs $500. Why would the freight fee be included when it is already at the dealership. The purchaser is not the one who paid to get it ship to the dealership. Recondition fee costs $500. Well, I got my car from this dealership. The salesperson, Mike Hamilton, told me they will install new navigation and make it looks new. When I got it, it looked just like when I tested drive it. Plus, the navigation is not even install on the car. Lesson Learned: Never buy a car from this dealership again. If you do, I hope you don't pay like I did. It is such disappointment how the dealership greedily took all the money like this. Now wonder you got horrible rate for services and sales. PS. We took a 2005 Toauge VW to Cooks VW, to see if the car was in good enough shape to buy. We were told that yes except for some maintenance issues (Needed a timing belt change and new brakes ) which we paid around $3000.00. When we picked the car up , it ran very bad and rough. We notified Adam at Cooks a few hours after pickup, they told us they are a family owned company and would take care of it. When we took car to dealership, there was a part was broken in front of motor. Since they were the only one working on motor they had to be the one who broke it. They charged us another $300.00 to repair something they broke, with a part that came out a junkyard They did the initial inspection and if the part up front was originally broken it would have been addressed. read more
