So we…read morecontacted several licensed contractors to bid on bringing the service up to city of Chicago code, upgrading from 100 to 200 amp service, installing a whole house surge protector and relocating the ComEd meter which was under the deck and which was also against code. By far, Ramon was the clear choice to hire for the job. He thoroughly explained the entire process, walking us through the areas of the house that would be affected and letting us know that the current electrical box was not grounded per code. He was not the cheapest but was the most knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of our questions and offers a 2 yr warranty on parts and labor. He took care of the permit process and had his guys, Carlos & Luis, in to do the work within a couple of weeks. It took 3 days to complete the work including running a grounding conduit, back to front, through my basement ceiling in order to reach the inlet where the water comes in from the city. They installed a new panel and designated the current panel as a sub panel in order to avoid the additional costs to re-wire existing circuits to the new panel. They moved the whole house AC and Dryer circuits to the new panel to lighten the amperage load off the sub panel. Finally, they ran new wiring to a couple of high amp kitchen appliances so they would be on their own dedicated circuits, which is difficult in these old Chicago bungalows. They were incredibly professional, respectful of property and communicated throughout the process. You gotta love it when you hire professionals that know exactly what they're doing. I give them 5 stars plus and highly recommend them.

We ultimately went with Clar Electric out of 3 well reviewed electricians even though they weren't the cheapest because of their great reviews, but also because Jamie communicated with us so well in emails. It's hard to explain, but he seemed trustworthy and a person of integrity :) From the beginning to the very end, even during the holiday season, Clar Electric was awesome.
