I came to this Vons location today (7311 N. Figueroa, Los Angeles) to buy groceries, including chicken for tacos and a mini watermelon. When I got home and opened both items, they were rotten. This is not only unacceptable, it's a complete waste of time and money. It's incredibly frustrating to get home, start preparing food, and then have to leave again just to return spoiled products. This shouldn't happen--especially from a major grocery chain like Vons. What's worse is this isn't my first bad experience here. I actually stopped shopping at this store for about two years because of expired or poor-quality items, and it's disappointing to see nothing has changed. Prices are already high, and customers should not be paying premium prices for spoiled food. This shows a serious lack of quality control and respect for customers. I'm sooo irritated! The cashier ruined a bouquet and did not even give me a discount and a half ass apology. He made my flowers run into things when he ran the conveyor belt and had I not taken the vase off, everything would have spilled. All I got was "oh sorry" not one effort to make it better or call the florist to replace a lilly. When he asked how my day was, I said I was still upset about the flowers and he just told me the total. She was super sweet, I knew I had to buy a box. Not only did she start to tell me about the large harvest of strawberries this year but also offered me the fresh batch that she just dipped. This store has a lot of good qualities, but the bad ones outweigh it. There's never enough staff on the checkout stations, meaning the lines get long when the ones that are manned are actually open. At most, there may be two checkout lines that are manned, but more often than not there's just one. If you have to buy something that can't be purchased through the self checkout stations, you either have to suffer through the long lines or just put everything back. Numerous times I've walked in, saw the lines and said "nope" before walking back out. Speaking of self checkout, the sign says "about 15 items." What does that even mean? Is 20 about 15? Is 25? 30? Doesn't matter, because it's never enforced, no matter how far over "about 15" the customer is pushing it. There are only four self checkout stations which is an extremely low number if you're only going to have one or two manned checkout stations open. As for the good? The shelves are always stocked and the staff is friendly, even though it's easy to tell they're stressed out, doing the work required by 2-3 times more people. I honestly don't know how they keep it together. Most are saints. Obviously the staffing decisions come from the higher upon the organization. Bottom line... there are many times when this Vons has lost my business to nearby Trader Joe's, Sprouts and even CVS, simply because I don't want to unnecessarily wait in an unnecessarily long line. read more

As a multi-business owner, this place is one of the worst run grocery stores in the country. I stopped going years ago. My wife wanted to stop by to grab something. On our way in we were harassed by man (non worker) who was sitting by the door, obviously for a long time. I complained to a worker who called the manager. Here's where the problem elevated. The ignorant uneducated manager came and he didn't care there were several people outside stealing his water and that we were harassed by one of them. One of them smelled so bad it made me sick. A manager or a business that allowed this type of behavior from employees and management is a failed business. Residents should boycott this store becaue they put your safety last. I'm not one to leave any review with less than 5 or 4 stars, but this occasion merits it. My main quip with Vons is not that their "discount section" is absolutely laughable, selling you trash with literal markup on it, unlike Ralph's, which actually applies a substantial discount to products that are literal days from expiration to move it out of the store. My MAIN and biggest quip is that I have found even regularly priced items, which should be FRESH and made the same day or so, to be old and stale. I came to this store at around 1pm and grabbed 3 donuts and, not even kidding, I paid US$1.99 PER UNIT (6 whole dollars) for the most stale, old, crumbly, bloating-and-indigestion-inducing donuts you could find over the crust of the earth. You could go to the most third-world, far away, unregulated place on planet Earth and find better donuts made by literal squirrels. Either pack up all of those old, stale, no-good donuts in a box and sell them at a SIGNIFICANT discount, or sell them to me at a regular price but make them worth eating and the day of. End of rant. I have shopped at this store weekly for over 10 years because I live nearby so it is very convenient. However, I am always amazed that almost every time, I leave there unhappy and amazed at the poor service compared to any other grocery store. The cashiers are always under-staffed so there are long lines, and any sort of special help is never available. I have also come home with spoiled lunch meats; when I returned them and said it was unacceptable, they clearly didn't care. The parking lot is also pretty uncomfortable with sketchy people. Suggest avoiding this store in favor of any others in Pasadena or Eagle Rock. read more

Costumer service has always been been hit or miss at this location but tonight it was bad. At the checkout the cashier started ringing up my items before the bagger completed bagging the groceries person in front if me causing a traffic jam to get the keypad.. There are a few nice people who work here. That being said, the employees for the most part, treat you like you are in their way. I'm a senior lady. Had to bag all my groceries. Lift all the bags into the cart, including cases of soda. All while the checker, who never made eye contact, chatted with another checker. Not to mention, had to back all the way out of an aisle so the Frito guy could get by. Rather than move over, so I could get by. Terrible customer service. Been coming here for years. If I could give this bakery a negative amount of stars I would. For starters I placed my order 2 months in advance and spoke directly with the cake decorator. She requested that I follow up to make sure the system doesn't erase my order nor does the staff forget my order since I was hosting my party in LA for my one year old, but was coming from out of town. I spoke to the staff three times from the time I placed the order through 4 days before the party which was held on 1/10/2026. It was agreed to make a Tres Leches vertical facing cake with a photo of my son on it with simple music notes and balloons with the words "Happy Birthday" on it. Keep in mind the staff repeated the order correctly every time we spoke. Day of the party I went to pick up my cake and there was a HORRIBLE LINE going through the center of the cake across my baby's face, they slapped a vertical photo horizontally and the music notes just looked like globs and the balloons looked Deflated. To say this cake was a disaster is putting it lightly! We had to fight them for three hours in the store to remake this order to which they fought us with every excuse in the book (most incompetent ones in fact) in order to avoid making this right for us! Not to mention on our last follow up call before the party, some unprofessional/snooty staff member (young woman) was arguing and talking to another staff member (young male) while I was on the phone saying "Why would Lily (cake decorator) accept this order?! If we had left her this order she would have been pissed!" And they continued to talk about how annoyed they were with Lily about accepting this cake order even though it was SIMPLE. So this seemed like retaliatory actions in the form of making my one year old's cake order purposefully very LOW QUALITY just because they didn't like the order. This was wickedly unprofessional, they had months in advance for a simple cake order, they fought us on a job they had plenty of time to prepare for and for THREE hours did not want to fix the cake but instead feed us UNACCEPTABLE EXCUSES. They ruined my son's birthday cake and the staff is unprofessional and highly incompetent. Don't ruin your kids birthday by coming to this bakery!!!!! read more

I don't mind using self checkout with a few items it's easy enough. But with a full basket I looked for a cashier and zero were posted at the registers. I asked an employee and the response was, I think the self checkout is open and he quickly walked away. I asked another employee she confirmed that there were no cashiers working and I had to use the self checkout. As I'm struggling to get this large order rang up she's on her phone and seemed annoyed when I asked for bags. I use several grocery store apps, but only seem to have issues with the Vons app. I always check my receipt, then go to the customer service counter to quietly remedy any problems. On a recent shopping spree I noticed that five items were charged the wrong price, all of them with digital coupons. The cashier had scanned my phone like usual. So I went to customer service and waited about 5 minutes for someone to come out of the office. When I explained to this guy that the coupons did not seem to work, he told me to go back in line. I told him if I go back in line, I'm returning everything - my entire $76.59 purchase. He pointed at the checkout lines and once again said to go there. This happened late afternoon, when the store is super busy. I explained to the cashier that I wanted to return everything. She had to consult with someone to find out how to do that, and was told to re-scan everything. Well, you know what happened next! The computer made a complete mess of things, and this poor woman had to do some fancy tricks to get my receipt to balance. When she got the difference down to 14 cents, I told her not to worry about it. There were two patient customers in line behind me, and they had to wait about 10 minutes for her to sort everything out. On the way out I spoke with an employee in the self checkout area, and learned that the guy in the office was the store director. Obviously I couldn't talk to him, so I'm leaving this review instead. I won't be returning to that Vons ever again. I'll stick with places like Smart & Final, Super King and Trader Joes where the computers work and people actually like their jobs. read more

This is a Great Von's Grocery store to shop at here in Eagle Rock. Whenever I need any food related items or food in gerneral, they always have what I need.. The staff and my whole experience when I shop there is great and pleasant. And with this store being organized and clean, it makes it easy to find what I need or want. Also with the pharmacy staff when picking up medicine(s) or if you wanna ask a question, they are great to talk with. And even when talking with the security officer that patrols the whole plaza property are always nice and friendly to interact with. I used to frequent the Vons in South Pasadena. When it closed about a month ago, I started coming here. Truthfully, they are about equal distance from my house. This location is nicer than the one in South Pasadena was. In fact, this store is more like a Pavillions. It offers more upscale items without the higher price. Their bakery is also on par with Pavillions. They always have a variety of beautiful cakes, which are perfect for any occasion, especially if you need something last minute. You can also place a custom order too. They carry a large selection of beer, wine, & spirits and their deli section has a variety of freshly pre-made dishes. There is also a florist, butcher, sushi counter, pharmacy, & Starbucks on site and self-check out too. read more

I have been shopping at this store for over 20 yrs. Over time I've learned to accept that the customer service counter never has a person assigned to it and I can never cash my winning lottery tickets. Ive also learned to accept the some things are not always fresh and the produce quality is not always great and that the lines are long as cashiers are chronically understaffed. I've also witnessed people repeatedly actually whistling for assistance at the deli counter as it is also chronically understaffed. Today I was embarrassed and humiliated by an employee because I dared push my cart over a drippy trail of coffee another customer left behind coming out of the self service area the employee was manning. I had checked out, saw my cashier tell the customer to stop as a cup of coffee he had on his cart was dripping and ask for someone to clean it up. I stopped. Someone threw a wad of paper towels half way along the drip trail which was about 6 feet long eminating from the self serve area. I waited a little and decided to cut through the drip. As I went through the Vons employee (middle age African American) yelled at me and told me not to go through. It was raining out and I was parked near the northern exit of the store. Also, I wanted to buy a lottery ticket and the machines are on that side of the store. I jokingly said, don't worry I won't sue if I slip. He yelled, "now you're spreading it out all over the store!" Again, it was drips of coffee, not a puddle; and the reason it was there is because the dripping customer got past him as he was working the self serve area. I did not appreciate being reprimanded, as if I was a child, in front of other customers. I felt embarrassed and humiliated. The lady who was guarding the self check out was extremely rude and stoned faced the entire time, did not offer to help me but instead yelled at me across the floor that I did not scan an item. The Trader Joe's down the street on Colorado is so much nicer - cheaper, much shorter lines (meaning the manager hires people to keep lines short), friendlier staff that seem to enjoy working at the store. It's 3:40 right now my boyfriend and I went to get a drink. While in line a lady that works there had such horrible customer service. My boyfriend was having trouble charging at the self check out and the lady wasn't helpful but instead rude with an attitude. However, since it was first shopping experience & unfortunately at this location, I did not know that I had to scan codes. At around 10:10pm, my partner and I walked in and we hear someone yelling at someone else. And my partner jokingly said "jeez any louder" as we were barely entering the store from the flower area entrance and the manager Maralynn (I believe was her name) was yelling at a male worker near the frozen food isle and Starbucks kiosk. Imagine how loud someone had to be to hear all of that from the other end of the store when just walking into a store. She was yelling at him to pick up the pace and stating she didn't want to be there any longer than they have to. The poor guy just took it. As a manager, you have side conversations with your coworkers in a private area, but also don't belittle them. Don't openly yell at a worker in a public area for all to hear and see. That was poor management on her part. She was nice at the register with customer service trying to chat up each person that went through check out. But as a customer, it was awful to see a manager treat her coworker so poorly. I almost wanted to say something to her myself. That's how bad the talk down was. read more

Let's talk Von's deli. A very busy place. When inspired a great place for made to order sandwiches. What could go wrong with fresh ingredients and a worker with an attitude. Not much. Really! They even have sushi. It's made on site by a real or maybe real sushi maker. (See what I did there?!) a sushi chef would not be rolling California rolls in a grocery deli. Hmmm or would they?! What I really want to talk about is the cuts of chicken in the fried chicken dinner. $7.99 for 8 pieces of chicken. What a bargain!! Until you get it home. They can't fake wings or drumsticks so you get 2 of each! However, there is a huge piece of bone laden deep fried skin bone fest which is being passed as a breast. I've ordered this more than once and each time the "breast piece" is vexing! Who cuts this chicken? Sometimes you get hip, sometimes ribs! One Vons store is the same as all the others i always hear. But No. Just as in all Vons customers are the same....neither actually holds true. And more to the point: each Vons store is populated by a multi-ethnic, multi-generational group pf employees. This pretty newly refurbed unit on the outskirts of Eagle Rock is one big, big former Safeway store which today was beautifully in stock and gleaming with with what can only be called hands-on employee attention to detail. Inside there are a number of "outside" departments: service meat, service deli, service bakery, pharmacy. I have not been in this store for 20 years and so my walking the aisles of this store is a big pleasure in that remember its former drab self. All of the employees give you the Nordstrom treatment asking if you need help and escorting you to your products. Intrusive yes but if if we had to wander this football field of a store looking for paper napkins which were not in the paper aisle: didn't i appreciate the help? Yes, i did! No one can explain why pricing is so high but who can? We are in Pandemic shock: a shock that is not over. And it always surprises me a lot that most people are not wearing masks. It's as if i live in one world and all of the others live in another. Covid is no joke. Btw: you can get your Covid vaxxes and booster here at the pharmacy. And to be straight up: look for the sales as most times you can find pricing that echoes (what seems like) a time gone by. It was a real pleasure seeing this once drab and downtrodden store looking so young, so hip, and so in stock and clean. Plus the employees seem to vibe off of that and are on their best behavior and service mode. This is my favorite store. I am an order online type of girl only recently. I have compared my online with in store and for some reason I save more online even though purchasing the same items. I am not understanding this. But any who. Heather was my last helper with the groceries and please was just so pleasant to speak with. And she educated me as well that I can ask for no bags. I have too many and starting to think of using them for potting. That's how many I have, besides the usual bathroom bags, compost bag. You get it. But do have to go in once in a while when they state they are out of stock for something and seriously I know they have it. Twice I have already proven them wrong. If you don't want to work or do your job. I would be happy to take your job from you and work. In a crazy note. I noticed they close a door at five I think so I every one can watch who comes in and out because of theft. I don't blame you Vons for doing this.
