Looking for a taste of the South in the DC area, my family and I stumbled upon Voodoo Brothers, and boy, did it deliver! From the moment we walked in, the owner, Luke, gave us a warm welcome and seated us immediately. Our server, Lewis, was just as fantastic, his great personality and helpful recommendations made choosing our meal a breeze. Both Luke and Lewis made us feel right at home, but the food was the real star of the show. We'd honestly go back just to chat with those two; the incredible meal is just a huge bonus! If you want delicious food and a team that makes you feel genuinely appreciated, you have to stop by. We're definitely becoming regulars. This place was a pass by after leaving Manassas. My family and I wanted to get dinner before hitting DC traffic. So we stopped here. We were the first to enter and the drinks were delicious. I had the hand grenade and it tasted like New Orleans. Could've been a little stronger. The ambiance of the restaurant is small but comfortable. The bar was inviting. Each dish was full of flavor. My Dad demolished the potatoes and greens. The crawfish was tender and my brother thought the grits were thick enough to be perfect. I would recommend this to anyone in the area! Wasn't cafe du monde beignets, more like donuts. Same with the frosted banana bread pudding dessert- not authentic but good and sweet. Was curious to go to this place and see how it would be since I couldn't truly eat when I was at New Orleans last year! But this place is quite a hidden gem. I read some of the lower reviews and higher ones, so here is my opinion: The food overall was good. The soup I do agree could have been a bit warmer but the flavor was there and not overly seasoned. I tried the boudin balls and they were interesting in the sense I never had something like that before but were fresh out the fryer. Same with the beignets! We only had one server so the wait time was long but honestly he was running around all over the place and was super hospitable. The place does feel like as if you transported to New Orleans itself! It was a cute and cozy spot that was full of charm and great music. Overall if you're in a rush, this isn't going to be the place for you! But it's def great for a lazy Sunday type of deal and I will give them another chance as their soup and apps were pretty tasty! Quintessential New Orleans Let me start by saying my family is from the New Orleans area so needless to say I was skeptical when I saw a Cajun/Creole another restaurant in Virginia claiming to be authentic (because every other one I've tried hasn't been close). Food We ordered the Boudin balls, Alligator Bites, Shrimp Poboy, and the Banana Foster/ Bread Pudding. First of all everything was exceptional. The Boudin balls were best I've had (you should use the voodoo sauce instead of the mustard). The alligator bites were amazing. Shrimp poboy had the right bread (hard to find in VA) and was great with the voodoo sauce. We put the banana foster on top of the bred pudding instead of the bourbon sauce which was great. I wasn't expecting cherries in the bread pudding but still excellent. Service We were seated pretty quickly on Valentines evening. Apps came out pretty quickly and server was friendly. Ambiance Feels like the kind of place you could wander into in the French quarter. Nice vibe. My husband and I went to Codo Brothers expecting a nice dinner experience, but unfortunately the customer service was very disappointing. After arriving, we waited about 15 minutes just to ask for our drinks There appeared to be only one waiter handling around 7 tables, so we tried to be patient and understanding. The waiter disappeared for another 10 minutes carrying what looked like delivery bags. When he finally came back, he only brought us two glasses of water. As I was politely about to order drinks, he suddenly yelled at me and said, "Don't you see I'm the only one attending? There are more people in front of you." There was no reason to speak to customers that way, especially when we had been calm and respectful the entire time. We decided to get up and leave, and his reaction made it seem like he simply did not care. I understand restaurants can get busy and short-staffed, but respectful customer service should still matter. read more

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Had been wanting to go for the chicory coffee and beignets for months... when I finally get there.... they are out of coffee.. (also out of orange juice) WTH? But that wasn't the worst of it.... our waiter was RUDE from start to finish...my daughter (who is 28) couldn't decide what she wanted so he said to her..."seriously honey? ...there isn't that much to choose from" Then after we recieved our food, he kept asking us if we needed anything in a "are you done yet" kind of way.... when it came to the bill he handed it to me and said "you're obviously the one paying this..." We went to Voodoo for the first time recently for brunch. It was pretty quiet when we visited as they just started serving their brunch menu. We started with Chicory Coffee and Beignets - which is probably better than what I had in NOLA by the way. For brunch entrees, we had Chicken and the Egg and Cajun Omelet. Both were delicious and spot on. I could not remember the service but it wasn't bad but not memorable either. The ambiance was great. It was almost like we were transported to NOLA. Best Cajun restaurant in Northern Virginia. We started off the beignet stuffed brisket sliders which were amazing. My wife really enjoyed the shrimp and grits and she thought the sausage was a bit spicy but delicious. I enjoyed the crawfish etouffe which was amazing. We also ordered the cornbread with honey butter which was equally delicious. Finished off our meal by sharing banana bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The food is so delicious. My husband and I shard an alligator bites appetizer, which was very tasty, but but my husband thought it was expensive at $19. He had a half portion of Jim's Jambalaya, and I had a half portion of the Shrimp and Grits. I didn't taste his, but my shrimp and grits was delightful. We also shared an order of beignets, and I had a cup of Cafe du Monde coffee. If you've never had creole cuisine, you should know it isn't highly spiced, just flavorful. Service was excellent and ambiance was evocative of a New Orleans bar. Four stars, because it is pricey, but we haven't been to Old Town Manassas in a while, so that may be the norm. read more

Love the location of the restaurant as it's in downtown Manassass. The restaurant is decorated with Louisiana decor along with sports memorabilia. The customer service was great and the food was good. We ordered boudin, creole wings, and gumbo for appetizers. The boudin had great flavor but would have been better served with a remoulade. The wings creole sauce didn't come off as creole but more of a peanut Asian sauce and took some getting used to. The gumbo was good. A great restaurant and bar with creative cocktails, great service, friendly staff, and in my opinion one of the best burgers in town. You may ask why I got a burger in a spot specializing in cajun food and po boys, but I don't have a good answer for you. I was craving a burger and it far surpassed my expectations. And the sauce. Holy cow the sauce. Get anything that has the voodoo sauce. Family got the catfish, jambalaya and fried okra. All were raved about. Nice local spot in old town Manassas that looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. We started with the fried crawfish appetizer and those were the only item that I'd say wasn't great. They had a ton of batter on them and had a really strong flour taste to them. For my entree I tried the catfish sandwich, and it was really good, and a lot better than the crawfish. The gumbo had good flavor, but little seafood. The vegetables weren't chopped finely enough or cooked down well, so the gumbo was a bit chunky. I need to start by saying I grew up along the gulf coast. Texas, Louisiana, & Mississippi. I'm VERY familiar with Cajun/creole food. We checked out this place for some nostalgia. I have to say I've NEVER in my life had a bowl of red beans & rice with a tomato flavor until today. Just super weird to me. $10 wasted. I also ordered the muffuletta. The bread was so dry and the cheese was barely melted. The muffuletta was disappointing as well. The seasoned fries that came with it were good but you can get those at Food Lion & air fry them at home. My husband ordered from the brunch menu. He got the biscuits & andouille gravy. He liked it but another unforgettable dish. I won't crave anything that would make me come back asap. I also need to second the other review to tap into the theme by offering Zydeco or Jazz music to come full circle with the theme. The waiter also seemed a bit awkward. He checked in too much. We live in Manassas and had loved the previous restaurant that occupied the space and the one next door too, Okra's - a Manassas classic - so we've had our eyes on Voodoo Brothers opening (the three owners all had worked at Okra's prior) to give us a taste of what we loved so much again. I will preface this by saying we really enjoyed our evening at Voodoo Brothers tonight. It was a Saturday night and quite busy. A great thing to see for a newer, smaller restaurant in its opening weeks. Our server, Ellie, was just the best. Absolutely sweet, charming, on top of things, always checking in on us yet giving us the appropriate amount of space to enjoy our food and drinks too, just the perfect balance all the way around. Definitely ask for her when you go! The manager was also very kind and checked in on us and introduced himself, so we were very happy with the hospitality. Drinks - Awesome. We had the blueberry lemon lavender drink (my favorite), the voodoo grenade (also my favorite lol), and the hurricane. Drinks are on point. Highly recommend. Food - We loved the gator bites and popcorn crawfish. Perfect seasoning, really good. The dirty rice was also a delicious. Cornbread was good paired with the butter. Beignets were good. The only thing my husband felt could use a boost was the gumbo. He makes his own gumbo, roux, and is particular about his gumbo - and he felt this was kind of bland. The color of the roux was great (nice and brown), but overall lacked flavor and that kick you are looking for with a crave worthy gumbo. That being said, we know they are new and continuing to evolve and build their flavors, so we will give them time and try it again! My son got beef poorboi looked great but the bottom bun was saturated with liquid and every time he took a bit liquid just ran out on to the plate. Not impressed. We were not greeted, so we sat ourselves at a table and noticed a distinct lack of atmosphere. We noticed dirty plates and and glasses around the bar that sat there untouched for at least 45 mins, the duration of our visit. We were handed waters and menus by a server who didn't utter a word and went away quickly. After several minutes had passed the bartender noticed that the one server in the place had disappeared, so she finally took our order. She's the only reason we would give this place any stars. She was kind and tried to be attentive. Although the food came quickly, it was one of the worst meals I've ever had: cold and lumpy mac 'n' cheese, over-cooked hush puppies, and, if you can imagine, bland yet over-garlicky mashed potatoes that really just needed some salt. You won't find salt and pepper on any of the tables. We considered dessert, but they were out of half the dessert choices on the menu, so we paid our bill, made the sign of the cross and called it a waste of time. This was their first weekend of the official opening! Used to be Okra, another Cajun restaurant that we had enjoyed a few times until they closed. Voodoo's space is smaller with only about 10 tables and some booth and bar seating. It was vibrant and welcoming with the hostess greets you as soon as you enter. With the limited seating, we were seated at a two person table with an additional chair on one side. Our server was very friendly and I appreciated that she asked us what we thought of each dish. As the first opening weekend, it is very important to tweak and improve where needed so it's always a good idea to ask your guests. She also gave suggestions which tells me she is familiar with the menu items. For starters, we ordered the alligator bites, cornbread and chicken andouille gumbo. Alligator bites were delicious (I've eaten this before but for those who haven't, taste like chicken but slightly chewier), the cornbread was from a red corn meal which is why it's darker in color and the honey butter was a perfect compliment. The gumbo looked great but unfortunately was bland (all three of us agreed) so when asked how things tasted, I was honest and she said she would send the owner over. I didn't ask for it to be comped as that was not my intent. The owner came by, I gave my opinion and he said he would address it with the chef as they are still improving on items as needed. I really hope they fix the taste because the presentation was on point, just not the flavor quite yet. Ordered the shrimp po'boy, shrimp and grits and the fried chicken with collards. My husband said the po'boy was good and shrimp seasoned. The collards with the chicken was almost as good as mine lol! I was impressed since you don't get homemade collards cooked right all the time. The chicken thigh was good but did notice as you get near the bone, it was pinkish red like maybe it needed another minute of cooking time. The highlight was definitely the shrimp and grits! There were several different flavors enhancing this dish, from the mushrooms to the pickled okra! Very interesting and very delicious indeed. I would recommend maybe to present the shrimps on top of the dish instead of hiding underneath the various ingredients! We ended the night with beignets and my son thoroughly enjoyed them! They probably could have saved some of the powdered sugar though...it was a lot lol! We definitely will visit again in a few months once a full menu is in place.
