Natalie designed my upper back piece and she got the picture in my head spot on after our meeting. Her fine art background shines in her work. I scheduled a consult, which I recommend anyone doing over conversing via email. As, for them, those consults rarely come to fruition and they are very busy. Take the time, schedule an appointment to discuss your artwork with the artist. It took a little bit to get in, but it is well worth the wait. She has a light hand and communicates well throughout the session. She also has finished my friend's sleeve and if I hadn't already had work by her, I would recommend her solely on that work. Take the time to meet ANY artist who is putting something permanent on your body. You won't regret it. read more

I was tattooed at Voodoo Monkey by one of the co-owners, Dave, in 2006. Dave was very polite and professional. He was also very quiet. I remember joking uncomfortably with him, saying something like "Aren't you suppose to interview me about my life like they do on Miami Ink?" I'm such a dork sometimes. When he first laid the stencil on my arm, I said I thought it was a little too small but Dave didn't mind making it a little larger to my liking. Dave did a beautiful job on my tattoo. I pretty much let him do whatever he wanted with the coloring and fortunately for me he did a kick ass job. The colors are very bright and vivid. Everyone always comments on how pretty it is. I have had the tattoo for 5 years and the color is still amazing. I don't think it has faded much, if at all. I think the tattoo cost $150, but I don't really remember. I will try to upload a picture to my page or this page so ya'll can check it out. Over all it was a great experience. Dave even met me and my friends out for drinks afterward at the Garage. I remember he was very concerned that I was happy with the tattoo and kept examining his work. That was cool. Word of warning: When you get a tattoo, you should probably eat before hand. I know you will probably be very excited with the anticipation of it all, but really, you should eat. Also, maybe it is not such a good idea to pound a bunch of beers on an empty stomach immediately after you get said tattoo. You MIGHT end up kissing some guy you don't know, fall asleep on the toilet in a dirty restroom at a hipster bar, throw up at the feet of the guy you kissed as he hands you a rose he bought from the street vendor and pass out in your car in the parking lot behind said hipster bar on west 25th while your dickhead friends continue to drink and never once check on your safety. You also might have to get a ride home from the strange man that you kissed because you are too drunk to drive, but you almost die on the way home because he was just as drunk as you were but you didn't know it at the time. Also, you might wake up in your friends kids' bed and realize that you left your keys in the strange guy you kissed car. Luckily your friends somehow got his phone number and you were able to track him down and get his address so you could go pick the keys up. But then when you ask your dickhead friends to drive you to get your keys and pick up your car that is still parked behind the bar, your dickhead friends refuse because they are too hungover. Then you have to suck it up and CALL YOUR MOM to come to your dickhead friends house with her spare keys for the car and drive you to the bar. Then you go and pick up your keys from that strange guy you kissed last night, that gave you a rose as you puked at his feet and then almost killed you on the way home. The meeting is brief and awkward but thankfully he does not ask you out. Just sayin'. It's not like that actually happened to me or anything. read more

Voodoo Monkey is the best and when I say that I freaking mean it! I hadn't gotten a tattoo in over ten years, so I was a bit nervous, especially getting one on my sternum area. I called ahead and requested Dave after reviewing his work on their website. I talked to him and let him know what I wanted and then went in the day of my appointment with a picture and ideas. He was very polite, professional, clean, and funny. He worked on me and took his time, kept checking on me and when I felt a bit woozy and needed a drink of water, got me some water and a cold paper towel and let me have a few minutes to recoop. The end result was a beautifully done tattoo that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The rest of the staff are very nice, laid back and very accomidating. The shop itself is clean and beautiful. I suggest calling ahead and getting a consult instead of going in the same day as you want to get a tat. My friend did this and could not get Dave or another person she had in mind because she waited last minute. She ended up with a great tat regardless, but if you want to have a specific artist do their work on you, call ahead and consult with them. If you like Miami Ink, and all those shows and want an atmosphere close to that- I suggest Voodoo Monkey- actually, they are better than Ami and them ;) read more

Had a great experience with Doug, and an okay experience with Sean. I was surprised at having just an okay experience with Sean because he is 'da man according to everyone else. With the design I chose I don't think it inspired him enough..he likes to do big, artistic designs. I highly recommend Doug, though. I got my first tattoo done here the month after I turned 18 3 years ago. It was a great experience. Sean was my artist who turned a couple of pictures I showed him into a beautiful piece of art on my back! Before coming I looked at all the artists work that they had online and it was impossible to pick which one I wanted to get tattooed by because all of there work looked great! They are on the expensive side but if you want quality work on something that is going to be on your body for the rest of your life it is totally worth it!! I visited Natalie for my last tattoo. I had two before I found Voodoo Monkey. The comparison between my first two and the one Natalie did are like night and day. Her colors and vision were fabulous. They had a sign that read "open at 1 p.m." I went about 2 p.m....still not open. Called number on the door and left a message. Noone even bothered to call me back. Go see Eric, Sean, really any of them. They are all really great artists. I got one of the first tattoos Eric ever did and I still fly home every once in awhile to get a new one(they are better than nearly all of the work I see done out here and better priced). I just got two at the beginning of June and they are rad. They're all pretty down to Earth, unpretentious people, whether it is your first or fiftieth they will take good care of you. p.s. Sean Jaundice has done pretty much all of my work and years later the color has held, and I constantly get compliments on my tattoos. Cleveland oldest and best tattoo shop hands down!!! I have been getting tattooed there on and off since 2008. First things first. DO NOT PARK IN THE SHOPPING CENTER ACROSS THE STREET!! I did, got towed. Cost me $170. Now. On to the shop and artists. The shop is top of the line. Clean, airy and comfortable. They set the bar as far as cleanliness and you'd be hard pressed to find a spec of dirt. Outstanding sanitary habits are exercised by all artists. This is what makes them Channel 8's featured shop. They have been on Channel 8s morning show more than once. The station is not going to feature a shit hole. The line up of artists doesn't change. Many shops are revolving doors of artists but not here. Tried and true talent. I have had work done mainly by Sean but my first piece was done by Eric. personable and creative Eric is a wonderful artist!! Now for Sean Jaundice. I have about 12 pieces done by Sean and all are absolutely perfect!! Clever, witty and creative Sean is the man!! His work is exquisite with so much attention too detail. He wouldn't put anything on you he wouldn't wear and that is the mark of a great artist. If you go to Sean and he gives u input on a design idea for Gods sake listen to him!! He knows his shit and wont steer you wrong. If you don't like what he recommends, get over yourself and listen to a man with many years of experience. I never doubt his vision and am complimented over and over for the work he has done on me. The art of his I wear is even featured on the shop webpage. Spending time with him as he tattoos you you will enjoy lively intelligent conversation. Even if he is having a bad day, you'll never know it as he is the consummate professional. I just got my largest tattoo done today. Takes up most of my upper arm and shoulder. I was completely and easily able to sit there for a couple of hours having it done because of how amazingly accommodating Sean was. I noticed right away that the entire staff treated their own clients the same way, like you have been friends for years. I got my tramp stamp done here for my 30th birthday in 2008. It's a butterfly (yes, I know very stereotypical but my cousin designed it and the symbolism of the butterfly and the colors in it have personal meaning to me) and Eric did the tattoo and I was pretty pleased. A friend went with me and got a tattoo of some stars covered up on her foot after I got mine done. Over the course of the next couple of months her new tattoo completely rubbed off and you could clearly see the stars that were the original tattoo. She wasn't pleased... If you are looking for a quality tattoo shop, this is the place to go! The shop itself is very clean and well kept, private enough to make you feel comfortable while still remaining open and inviting, and overall was a very warm and welcome environment. I recently had an appointment with Natalie, one of the owners of the shop. Her work was beautiful, her touch was light, and her talent was obvious. She has been tattooing for 20 years, which shows in both how she handles her clients and in the artwork she does. She was really good about making sure I was comfortable, both physically and emotionally, throughout the whole process. Before she did anything, she made sure I was happy with her design, placement, etc. Once she began tattooing, her touch was very light and as painless as a tattoo can be. Afterwards, she kept her lines of communication open if I had any questions and offered touchups should I need them after the tattoo heals. Beginning to end, my experience with Voodoo Monkey was nothing but positive. I truly can't recommend them enough! read more

I've been there two times and Sean did both of my tattoos. He did brilliant work. You can either bring your own picture or let the artist make some changes to it. Sean gave really helpful advice on my tattoo and I fully trusted him. It recovered in only ten days and I definitely love it. I have to agree with what others have already said: ask. for. ERIC. I cannot vouch for anyone else in the shop as I really only interacted with him. He's a really nice, laid back guy and he did a wonderful job on my first tattoo. He even used a smaller needle so it wouldn't hurt as much although I'm sure he'd have preferred to do what he normally does so he could be done sooner. He also ended up charging me less than he originally quoted me. I'm really happy with how it turned out and would definitely go back to him for my next tattoo. read more
