He explained the whole process about the AC unit and all my options at a level that I could comprehend. I'm so happy I found Vortechs Heating and Air. I had been using another company for several years basically based on name recognition. Though they are the biggest in the area I was becoming increasingly unhappy with their service. The other night I arrived home to find that my AC was broken...again. I called the company I had been using and they sent someone over the next morning. The technician told us what the problem was and that they would have to order the part I needed. He had no idea when the part would arrive and he left. A few hours later, a lady from the company called to tell me that the part would cost over $900. She also informed me that if the part was available locally that they would be able to come back to fix my AC in 1-2 days. That just sent me over the edge. Not only is $900 a ridiculous amount of money, you would think that they would show some urgency to get the problem fixed if the part is local. Anyway, there was no way I was going to give them any more of my business, so I did some research and found Vortechs Heating & Air. They arrived at my home promptly, identified the problem and informed us that I would need the same part. However, they were pretty sure that the part was still under warranty, so they called the manufacturer and confirmed that it was. Then they found out that the part was available locally, drove to get it, and came back and fixed the problem immediately. They were also extremely friendly and professional. I seriously can't tell you how satisfied I am with their service. Not only did they save me a huge amount of money, they had my AC fixed within a few hours. Our upstairs unit would not turn on one day after returning home from vacation. Our bedroom is upstairs and it was the middle of summer, so I was not happy. Jacob came out and within 15 minutes he knew exactly what was going on. He told me it had something to do with a wire on the compressor malfunctioning? Anyway, he fixed it, quickly, and our unit was up and running again within 30 minutes of him coming to our house. He had everything he needed with him to fix the issue. After he fixed the wires, he checked the rest of my system to make sure it was functioning properly. I definitely noticed a difference in the way the house was cooling immediately after he left. Two fellows showed up, were very professional and personable and most of all they immediately determined the problem and fixed it. Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! They came out on a Sun. 1 hour after I called them. It was 92 degrees in my house. I have a home warranty company that couldn't find anyone to come out for me all weekend (my a/c broke Sat.) After some yelling and screaming, the warranty company let me hire someone on my own. I called Vortechs and explained the situation and they came out what seemed like immediately. Did I mention it was 92 degrees in my house!!!! They fixed the problem in 10 min.s (a snake fried our capacitor) and gave us a reasonable price tag for the repair. The technician spoke with the warranty company and everything worked out great. Our a/c suddenly started leaking water which was flooding one of our bedrooms and collecting in a huge puddle on the garage floor. We immediately turned to Yelp to find a reputable a/c repair service and found Vortechs. After reading their reviews we decided to give them a try (we were not happy with the last company we used which is why we turned to Yelp in the first place). They offered us a late appointment the same day but we asked for an earlier appointment the following day which they scheduled for us right away. The window they gave us was 3-5pm and at 3 o'clock on the dot there was a knock at the door. The tech introduced himself and went straight to work after I showed him to the a/c unit in the garage. Within 30 minutes he'd assessed and fixed the problem, letting me know exactly what was wrong and what he would do to solve the problem. The a/c unit seems to be working great now, no more leaking, and it is keeping the house much cooler than before. Their quick response time, professionalism and what I think was a very reasonable price for the service and part, will keep us using Vortechs in the future. read more

Joe is the only person in Orlando that knows how to fix zoned AC systems! After a major lightening storm our AC was out. Another firm said I needed a new air conditioner. Vortechs has been out twice to visit our home to resolve unrelated issues with our 13 year old system. For both visits, they showed up within their promised time window (even once after hours on a Friday!), got right to work diagnosing what was wrong with the cooling system, and quickly identified and fixed the cause of the problem. Gerardo the technician that came out was very professional, but there was just some miscommunication where I had bought into the $150 maintenance plan last year and I thought I was finished already but when I received a call from vortechs I was told I had 1 more visit, not that I was being charged for anything. So I was under the assumption that my visit was free, but when he came out I was being charged for the visit. Laurie the office manager apologized and was very professional as well, just miscommunication. The maintenance plan didn't really do anything for me as they only take readings and don't do any actual maintenance on your AC unit. The only benefit is you get discount on visits and for any repair work thats being done. Gerardo did go above and actually cleaned my drain line for me. But the maintenance plan is not what I thought it was as no actual maintenance/repair work is being done just readings and tests. read more

Considering how far away I am from their office this was remarkable and surprising.They were upfront with the cost on the phone and were able to find and solve the problem quickly (a loose wire). Advice and showed technician that the problem was a burnt transformer. Technician spent over 1 hour talking to his office and sending pictures back and forth of the unit . Finally he "discovered" that the burn transformer needed replacement although I even sent his office a picture of it. We agreed to replace it but would not tell me the price of it(asked him 3 times). Had to stop him from working until he finally came with the price, $267.00. !!!! I had previously search the internet to get an idea of what the price of the item would be. Surprise, prices from $6.85 to $18.95 . Stopped service on the spot. Paid the trip fee. How can a co. charge for a 40v. transformer (size of a sardine can) $267.00 for a part that cost me locally $6.81. This is not "highway robbery" it is "highway rape". Cos. forget that today most people will research the internet to find out what prices for parts they may need Even "you tube" will show how to fix almost anything. I had flooding in my garage due to a clogged air conditioning drain and called Vortechs on a Monday morning. Lori, the receptionist, was very kind in getting someone out asap, even though their schedule was full. While the complete repair couldn't be done immediately, Eddie cleared the drain and committed to coming back in two days to replace and rebuild the return box under the unit that was destroyed from moisture and still seeping water. Eddie and Jasper showed up on Wed., on time, fixed the issue and installed a switch/float switch to prevent flooding again in the event of another clogged drain. While I'm not aware of what other companies might charge because I didn't have the luxury of shopping around, I trust it was fair barring the work done and the time it took. They take photos of the before and after so you have a record of what was done. They were on time and delivered on the promise. never ever ever ever ever call them ... specially on weekend. they charge you the premium price for weekend visit but they will tell you they can't fix till Monday. the only reason I called them because my regular company was not available till Monday. big mistake. they arrived in short notice then they told me what was the problem. and basically they could not do anything until Monday. I had to pay $129 just for their visit without resolution. I could have just waited till Monday if I knew. then they call me Monday and tell me that the parts will cost $700 plus labor. I looked up the price online and original parts were $87 and generic $40. I knew they did not want to do the work because they were for the money. two guy came one was Rodrigo and I don't know the name of the other one. they have no liceslnse and should not have come to look at my Ac without license. I was robbed by them at my own house. I decided after that to go with another company and they fixed everything in less than two hours for $200 for labor and parts. stay away stay away. read more

I was having issues with my home unit's evaporator coil icing up. I replaced the filter and checked to see if the coil itself was dirty. Once these items were ruled out due to the continued icing, I though the system might be low on refrigerant and knew I had to find a company to come out and diagnose/repair the problem. I didn't want to call the company that installed the unit because I didn't trust them after a repair issue, so I went online and began looking for another company. I decided to try Vortechs Heating and Air based on their Yelp and Google reviews and also their status with the BBB. When I called, they were able to schedule a tech to come out that same day. Gerardo checked the system and took the time answer all of my questions. My unit was low on refrigerant and after adding some, the system was back to working normally. I was shown upfront what the price was going to be for the diagnostic visit and the addition of refrigerant, so there were no surprises. I also received my invoice and photos of the before and after readings taken of my unit showing the addition of refrigerant immediately after Gerardo left, which is something I greatly appreciated. After a professional HVAC company, which was a referral, failed to find out why my A/C was blowing hot air, tripping breakers and a host of other issues, I decided to look on Yelp. This is where I found Vortechs Heating & Air. A lightning surge caused the issue on a Thursday night, and even after another "professional" checked it out, we were still without A/C on Sunday morning in the Florida summer. I called Vortechs around 9:30am and was told that the owner was on call and could come out between 1:00-3:00. He finished his morning customer and called to ask if he could come early! OF COURSE HE COULD! Joe arrived by 11:30 and in less than an hour we had a house which was rapidly cooling. The attic temp was easily in the 90's and the house wasn't much better, but he cheerfully did all that he needed, going back and forth between the air handler and the outside unit. He has a great sense of humor and is a really nice guy. The rate, even for a Sunday, was VERY reasonable. While most of their reviews were really good, it ticked me off that someone would quote Vortechs price for a part then say you could get it at Home Depot for less than $10. My response to that is, "even if you could get it at Home Depot for less than $10 (it's probably a professional thing), you would not have the ability to install it, because if you did you would not be calling someone whose job it is to fix your broken A/C". People need to remember that these guys are working in unbearable heat on the weekend, to bring comfort to your home, so show some respect and gratitude. I called Vortech and told them that I had a freon leak and asked if they could come and find it, they said they would send a technician out to look at it. The tech arrived that afternoon and within 5 minutes put a gauge on my unit and said "I found the problem, you have a leak" I was then told they can find the leak by pumping dye into the unit for $200 plus $46 a lbs (for 8-10 lbs_ plus the $70 service fee. so we're already at $600 - $700, just to find the leak, not to fix it. I asked if, since they're already charging me $70 can they use their wands to try to find the leak, they told me to look with the wands would $150 and they probably wouldn't find it. I then asked, If I pay the $70 service call and the $200 charge to find the leak with the dye, if they would cut me a deal on the freon, since they have 600% markup on it. They said they don't make deals, and to get the service fee and leave. I paid them them, called someone else who stated that his $70 service call actually included looking for the leak. He found the leak in 10 minutes with his wand, called the manufacturer , had the part sent over and repaired it with 3hrs labor, all for $425, that includes refilling my freon at $17 per lb. Now, Vortech was going to charge $600 - $700 TO FIND THE LEAK AND GAUGE ME ON FREON, NOT INCLUDING FIX. Total waste of $. read more
