Finding an officiant was one of the harder things for me to do during our wedding planning. My husband and I are not particularly religious, and between our families we represent Catholics, Christians, and my Jewish side of the family as well. I had no idea how to choose someone who could please all of these people/not offend them, while still staying true to who we are and what we wanted our day to be about. That being said, I started looking through my venue's preferred vendor list as well as online to see what I could find. I never imagined that I would have a Reverend marry me, because I honestly cannot tell you if I've ever even gone to church on a Sunday.. the last time might have been when I was baptized as a baby. When we met with Reverend Chris, we both immediately knew that he was our guy. He is very outgoing, personable, and just all around a great human. He did not push any religiousness onto us, and simply told us that, if we decided to work with him, we would have the option to make the ceremony as spiritual or non spiritual as we would like. He is a chaplain, so he knows how to appeal to anyone's needs no matter their religion. I think that makes him so easy to work with. He did not ever harass us to get our ceremony selections to him, but let us send him our choices as we made them. The day of the wedding, things went so well. Reverend Chris knows how to adapt for your needs, and because it was 85+ degrees during our ceremony, he knew to speed it up to make sure that we and our guests were as comfortable as possible. His words were lovely and we still have people coming up to us to say how much they enjoyed his ceremony. My husband's cousin told me she hopes that her officiant will be as well spoken and genuine as Rev. Chris. Our religious and non-religious relatives were all very touched by his words. I cannot say enough about Rev Christopher. We heard raves throughout our wedding night about how amazing he was. I loved how laid back, yet efficient he was throughout our planning process. He emailed me two weeks before my wedding just to see if I needed anything from him. I also received a text the night before confirming the time he would arrive to our ceremony. On the day of my wedding he again sent me a text letting me know he was on location. I never had to worry that he was not going to be there...such a relief with everything that goes on with a wedding. We used Rev Christopher's ceremony handbook to pick out our vows and ring exchange. He then had free rein with respect to what was said beyond that. I am soooo glad we completely allowed him to do what he does best. He had us hold our rings together with interlocking hands while he blessed them. I have never seen anything like it and it was my favorite part! Vows from the Heart is a preferred vendor for our venue, Grand Tradition Estate in Fallbook. My fiance and I had opportunity to interview both Reverend Christopher and Chaplain Mary together. They both so professional, genuine, personable, patient, and have great personalities. We also learned that they are married to each other! (FYI - They are adorable and seem like very happy people.) During our meeting, we were given a booklet with an example ceremony timeline and example readings/blessings that made it easier to visualize our options. (It's pretty detailed and if you had no idea what you wanted... you would totally be covered). They also demystified what we needed to do for our marriage license. (There are so many things that you would not know about getting married unless you've already been married before! So, having professionals that know what they are doing and who you can trust is a blessing.) Both were willing to be contacted as many times before the big day to answer any questions (instead of offering limited meetings or contacts) about anything wedding related (like if needed other vendor references) and were not pushy at all about getting booked. It felt like they really want you to have the best ceremony possible. To be honest, I wasn't really that hyped up about the ceremony part of our wedding until we met them! I appreciated that we could customize our ceremony and that our officiant (either one) felt like an advocate for us and someone who wanted to best represent us on our big day. Our conversation with both felt very natural and we walked away completely confident that we would be in very good hands. I also felt like they took the time to get to know us as a couple. In the end, we went with Rev. Tuttle because he reminded my fiance of his best man (who is his best friend from the 1st grade). (To choose between Christopher or Mary is like splitting hairs. Both are fantastic.) With Vows from the Heart, our ceremony totally felt like us and reflected what we wanted! We wanted a civil ceremony that was concise but still thoughtful and meaningful. We also were able to write our own vows. We only felt like we had to meet with Rev. Tuttle once (our initial meeting) and then a month before the wedding, I emailed him our ceremony selections and updated him with any logistics. He doesn't attend the ceremony rehearsal and doesn't really need to. (A rehearsal is really for where you and the wedding party need to know where to walk/stand and that done by the venue coordinator.) He also only attends the ceremony portion of your wedding and does not expect to stay around for the reception. Days prior to wedding, Rev. Tuttle texted us to check in about any questions. Day of, he was on time and very impressive. He helped release any stress prior to ceremony. In seeing Rev. Tuttle in action, he is gregarious, has great energy, is a good public speaker, has a great sense of humor, and is able to smoothly think on his feet. When things went off script with banter between myself and fiance (not planned), he went with it and it felt very natural. Our parents LOVED him as well as many other guests because I got compliments about our officiant even after the wedding.
