I love thrifting and estate sale shopping, so Community Warehouse was an excellent choice for me on this special day. I love Community Warehouse's mission! It's a nonprofit furniture bank that collects home goods and redistributes them to those in need. The warehouse space in the back accepts furniture donations, and houses a large collection of pieces for their program. There is also a retail space in the front of the building where visitors can peruse estate sale home goods like furniture and decor. There is a wide variety of products to choose from, and everything I saw was in excellent condition. The store is pleasantly curated, and prices are fair and well-marked. I purchased a nightstand, and found many other items that may draw me back to the store sooner than later. I'm pleased to add Community Warehouse to my regular rotation of home goods stores I frequent.

McDonald's was a proud volunteer today, helping to package food items. Today, we sorted and repacked pancake mix to go out to various organizations. You also have to label the items with nutritional information as well as a cooking label. What's good is that anyone can volunteer to share your time by working with them. Only requirement is that you're 16 years of age with an adult or 18 years or older. So come by yourself as Devon did or come as a group. It is a great way to give back to the community. They also give tours so you can truly understand the impact hunger has on the community, the state. I truly was blessed by this event.

Pivot has played a large roll in my sexual health now for years. They are there for me when I am…read morein a position to not afford proper health care coverage but also when I have it and am able to donate to support the good that they do. I have been utilizing Pivot's services since I first moved to Portland and while sometimes their free clinic hours can be crazy town they do the best they can with the resources they have available and still seem to pull off a pretty great thing. So here's the deal, you have to show up early because sometimes there is even a line before the door opens. They set aside the proper amount of time for each testing/screening so it's about 4 per hour. They have 2 screeners so if you are number 8 expect to be there for up to two hours. I believe they can only do 3 hours of testing so they do have a cut off and have to turn some folks away typically. This can not be easy for them as they know this service is needed so be kind in your reactions and patient with you time. I am not going to list the free screen days/times as they may change but do visit their website for the latest info and note that the location has changed to SE Belmont. The new space is beautiful, great retro building, clean new facilities and set up for exactly what they are offering. The acoustics however are less than ideal for both staff and patient so be respectful and quiet when appropriate. Check in is supposed to be anonymous and private but the layout of the lobby hinders most of that. Some reviews have listed poor services or bad customer service. I am sure the staff rotates over the years and I have been fortunate to have nothing but kind and wonderful people to help me. Pro tip: if you just need a rapid HIV test screening they can usually do those throughout the evening as they are done separate from the full screenings. I HIGHLY recommend utilizing their services if you need them or want to support them. This is a separate service from the clinic it is in so make sure to thank the staff or give them a hug for doing what they do on volunteer hours.

There are similar programs in different parts of the Metro area, so do begin at the OFB site and search by ZIP Code. Great places to Volunteer, if u can follow safety rules, and r low risk for bringing in a virus. I actually went online and got a Food Handlers Card to be more helpful as a Volunteer at our NoPo Food Share. This site is on #4 bus, has off-street parking, is multi-ethnic and LG Bi Trans friendly.

You want to talk about community lovin'- Q Center is bringing a whole new level to a non-profit…read moreorganization. I've learned so much about them in the past week it makes me smile on the inside and out... community work in the LGBTQ world that really really changes life. Saturday night I was at their benefit at the Nines Hotel, and I got a peek into what they are doing for our Portland Queer community. One stuck out to me, and I'll just have to quote it: "Q Center has held a 'high school' prom in the past for those people who were not able to attend with the person they cared about." Just so you understand- this means back in the 60s and 70s when there wasn't as much freedom. The image of these freed individuals dancing to classics and smiling, finally, brings a smile to my face. No matter your orientation, beliefs or political standpoint- everyone can agree that seeing a room of love can only be beautiful. The staff at Q Center only brings this flow of love, and the patrons who represent and support them return it with a big smile. They offer everything from abuse resources, to transsexual support, to a person first coming out. They also stand for the women and have a very strong back bone in the feminist community. I love Q Center.

All this food/drink would have been $3 ($1.25/plate plus .25 for juice and pudding) except it's free for your first time. You can also work for 15 minutes to earn a meal. I worked for an hour and they gave me $6 worth of meal vouchers. It's not vegan, but I got into town late last night and hadn't eaten anything other than peanut butter and trail mix in like 30 hours, so this gave me new life. Everyone here felt like an equal regardless of your socioeconomic status. This place is an example of how the world should operate. Also, the fettuccine was super dank. They also accept EBT and you can buy meal vouchers for $2 to give to people on the street if you prefer.

I explained that I was a licensed dealer and would handle that myself, but they refused. The person in charge (Jon) explained that that's just they way they've always done it, and even though they understood the protocol behind dealer transactions, "they just weren't ready" to do that. What, weren't ready to follow DMV precedent that's been in place for decades? I then asked if they could discount the price by $108." No, sorry, we're just not comfortable doing that." It was a pitch perfect example of someone who blindly follows a stagnant, stubborn, and ignorant outlook of the facts that are right in front of them, but then again their business is religion driven, so I guess that all makes sense.
