He called and was informed, there are the certificate electronically transfer fee which was around $ 8. The older man was really fast with the smog check. They have a Customer seating area to wait for while vehicle getting smog test along w a rack of books to use for entertainment. FYI it might be a bit easy to miss like we almost did when we pulled into the alley of automobile repair shops. VR Smog is tucked deep away into a mini street in Santa Ana, but it's worth following the GPS into the deep beyond. I parked and as I walked in, the owner came out to grab my paperwork. The coupon said to show before the work started and luckily the owner came over with another question and I was able to show it to him before the job started. He said that the star certified price was actually $30. Even with the certificate cost of $8.75, the total of $38.75 would still have been about the same as going to my local spot in Little Saigon. When he came back to check me out, he honored the $21 plus certificate price though (for a total of $30), which was a nice surprise. I paid with card (though it is noted that cash is preferred) and was out within the hour! Will definitely return to VR Smog for my future smog needs. read more

I appreciated how they took the time to explain the (aftermarket) valve fitted on my truck, he also went into detail of how the state of Ca. detects unrecognizable fitting not approved to pass smog. It was very educational info passed along to have taken it there for inspection. The smog station has up to date software ( unlike somewhere else on main st: st Gertrude) not recommended. read more

Immediately, I started looking for deals on Penny Saver but none of the centers are around my work/home. I tried to google "cheap smog check in Irvine", $50 came out. I was thinking WTF $50 is considered cheap?? There's gotta be somewhere better than that! Then this review shows up on the search. I went to its website to have the coupon printed and brought my car in for smog check on Friday afternoon. This joint is a bit hard to get to because it's in the back. I missed the turn twice before finally turning into the right driveway. The easiest way to get to it is turn right on Orange Ave from Dyer, left on Adam Ave (dead end), then right and into the strip mall. I was 4th in line. My 2007 Lexus took about 20 mins because the traction control was a bit hard to find compare to most cars. Despite that, he still honored the coupon for $21 and I paid $30 total including the cert. What a great price!! He was nice, polite and a sense of humor too. I made a comment, "Wow, popular place!" He replied, "Yup, as popular as Tom Cruise! ...Well, not quite!" Me smiled.... By the time, my car was done. He had 1 more car to go and it was close to 5:40pm. He had to turn away two more customers. So though not quite as popular as Tom Cruise, still very popular choice when it comes to getting smog check done. I'll be sure to recommend you to all of my friends!! I was looking for a last minute smog check as I needed to renew my car registration asap. I called on Saturday morning right as the place opened and told me to stop by as there was only 1 car. I drove right away and made the 15 min drive. I was greeted with a nice welcome and was informed that there were 2 cars ahead of me and it would be about a 45 min wait which I was ok with. I took a seat in the mini lounge area as I waited and within 20 mins my car was next. I listened to some music and also read a book from the mini library as I waited. Only took about 10 mins and my car was done! I used the Check In coupon for $21 but it was for regular smog checks and not for the STAR Smog. My car required the STAR Smog. But the owner told me it was ok and he honored the price! I thanked him and paid with cash and he also gave me the book I was reading from his little library (it was a book about Golden Retrievers, which I have one of)! I've been coming here for years and always have a great experience! Mark is always very helpful with what issues you might have and guide you in the right direction! Until last week when I tried to smog a vehicle that's pre OBD2. I failed my test because my Ignition timing was off. Yes it was off by a lot! I corrected the timing with my brother who is also an Engine machinist and builder, then took the vehicle to a customer we build engines for to fix a power steering leak. They pressure washed all the power steering area to clean in search for the leak and took off the white mark for timing on the pulley! I take my car back for a retest and it again failed for "ignition timing" ?? Timed at 10 degrees before TDC as it should be, but still got failed because he couldn't see the pully mark! He didn't charge me for the retest and is always very helpful! But I took a star off because we could have easily put a white out mark on the pully and saw it was timed correctly! Totally ruined my Friday! read more

On a Friday afternoon (1:15pm), I waited less than 10 minutes for one customer before me and then 10 more minutes for the smog check. I paid 30$ w/ the yelp discount for a 2004 Toyota Prius standard smog inspection. Unfortunately, I had to wait a day for the certification to clear online with the DMV before being able to renew my registration. Owner seemed competent, but more importantly was respectful and decent. Shopping center entrance off of Main St is congested with repair shops and their customer vehicles, but there is plenty of parking and space past this down at the smog shop. read more
