*This review is for the SCHOOL services, not the salon* I booked an appointment for hair/make-up prior to an event. When I called the make the appointment, someone answered quickly, suggested the best time in relation to the start of my event, and even told me the names of the students that would be working with me and gave me the prices. Obviously, the pricing is much better than your traditional services. The students were very nice, talked through everything that you wanted, helped with suggestions, and asked their instructors for additional advice, if needed. I recently called and booked another appointment for another even I have next month and booking process was easy. They didn't tell me who I would be with this time, but I think the students that worked with me last time have both graduated. Hoping my next appointment is as good as the last was. Be prepared for it to take a little while, as they might work through a little slower than you'd expect at a typical salon, but you know they are students - that should be expected. The location is a bit confusing, as it is in Citadel Mall, but not specifics to where in the mall. Just FYI, it's right outside of Belk. I appreciated the chill environment without extra pressure, and of course, saving some money in the process. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Was told the "my kind" isn't serviced here. Let the receptionist know in advance that I had locs & when I showed up for my appointment I was treated HORRIBLY!!! When did cosmetology schools start not washing hair? But 3 other people are in the chair getting services that require washing their hair?!? read more

My mother was flatly refused service at this salon today. Despite having been a client here before and being in their system, the employee (Cindy) and the manager refused to wait on her. They explicitly told her they "could not attend to her because there is a language barrier" and they were "afraid she would sue them." Using a language barrier as a reason to deny service to a returning customer is discriminatory and unprofessional. When my mother asked for their full names to file a formal complaint, they refused to provide them. We have documented the interaction and will be following up with a formal complaint to the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. I booked an appointment for my daughter to get an all over color and a haircut. the appointment was at 10. We did not get out of the appointment until 3:30. I completely understand this was a learning environment but 5.5 hours is so long! I wanted to give my experience here so others know your appointment will be longer than expected. read more

Be careful making an appointment with a level 1 Stylist unless you just need a simple trim. My hair was butchered by some girl right out of school and no one is supervising these people even though they have no clue what they are doing. Now every day I have to struggle with my hair because it is so messed up. read more

This is a great salon! I have had several haircuts with different hair stylists, and they are all excellent. Keirsten cut my hair today, and did an outstanding job!! She blow dried it, and flat ironed my hair. I love it! The prices are very reasonable-$30 for shampoo, haircut and style! I highly recommend trying out Vski! read more

My only gripe is that I let people know how good Krystal is and now she always seems booked two weeks in advance, haha. I can't go to anyone else! For $33 (not including a tip), you'll get an amazing cut, even if you're not completely sure of what style you want, because she has a good eye for what will work and what won't. For reference, I have coarse Asian hair that's been bleached and color-treated many times before. She can share about their clean utensils, and that is very important to me. I've officially fallen in love with gel manicures since they're having a $20 special. Was seriously impressed with my cut, I was apprehensive because my curly hair can be a challenge sometimes and the only salon I've found that I like is a specialist curl place in Minneapolis but I am very happy with my hair after this cut. They weren't pushy with product sales or upgrades. My stylist listened to what I wanted (shaping and about 3-4 inches off) and gave me a great cut. The only thing that I was not super excited about was the waiting area. I did a pedicure after my cut and waited almost an hour on a wood slat bench. Wouldn't have been as bad but the gentleman at the desk help telling me she would be with me "shortly" had he said it would be an hour I would have gone for a walk through the mall and it would have been no big deal. The Pedi was great but very simple despite getting the "spa" pedi. The girl who did it was amazing, it was more of a facilities issue. The chair was moderately comfortable but wasn't a massaging chair, the foot tub was just barely big enough for my size 9 feet, my heel touched one side of the tub and my toes the other if I wasn't careful. My niece went to Dawn for some hi/lo light and a cut. She did a gorgeous job. Her hair looked and continues(after a month) still gorgeous. After moving here a year ago and not having a stylist, I too decided to make an appointment with Dawn along with my daughter. I came with some pictures of hair styles that I was thinking. She took her time to talk with me as to what I was looking for. Looked over my hair and showed me a picture of a style. She gave me a beautiful cut and style. I love it. My daughters hair came out gorgeous. She did a lil color on it and a nice trim. It looked very healthy. Recommended a few of their products, which we purchased to style our hair with. Very skilled and knowledgeable. I always get compliments on my ultra short, girly style. I work in an automotive shop, so short hair is ideal, but I'm a girl, so feminine was a must. They accomplished the perfect fuss free balance! I trust these guys so much, my next visit will be to go from natural brown to platinum. As a side note, this place is surprisingly affordable too! Terrible. Absolutely terrible. My mother-in-law, from out of state, bought me a large gift certificate for my birthday. When I received the gift certificate, it was ALREADY expired but I didn't notice it. When I tried to use it, a couple of months later, they said it was expired and that I couldn't use it. After I refused to take no for an answer, they said I had 1 week to use it all! The manager, who made all of these decisions, never spoke to me and never apologized! On top of that, I went there for my friend and I to get a gel manicure together. Mine went fine, but hers looked terrible and started chipping a few hours later! I came in to have highlights done by Tiffany. After being in the salon for FIVE hours, I left with literally 3 colored strands of hair on the right side of my head and zero on the left. For $150. Thoroughly disgusted and disappointed. This is hands down the worst hair service I've ever had. I tried contacting the owner and was given the runaround that he wasn't there and none of the employees knew when he'd be back or even knew his schedule. Just moved to Charleston and was in desperate need of a cut (been almost two years since my hair saw a pair of scissors.) I chose Vski because it's close to my house and had good reviews. I built up the courage to make an appointment (getting my hair cut gives me awful anxiety!) and was NOT disappointed. I didn't have much of a plan when I went in, I just knew I needed help! On Black Friday I saw Kiersten to get my hair dyed gray, I had read she was awesome. To sum up the beginning- she rushed through my appointment because she had an appt immediately after mine, having other girls help with blow drying and everything (she bragged to everyone she didn't need to use a toner). I asked for samples of color, instead she said my root would be "a shade darker than your roots, but definitely lighter than mine" because I had told her that hers were way too dark (dark brown). After everything's done, I end up with a very dark gray and BLACK roots. I also had a lot of pieces that were brown. I showed her a picture of the gray I had in the past, it was very light and silver almost. She could tell I wasn't happy, and kept reassuring me. I told her I was happy because I thought it might grow on me (it usually does). I bought some product because it was on sale (who wouldn't), and gave her a tip because aren't you always supposed to? After a few days I still hated it so I contacted them. They told me that because I bought product, gave her a tip, and "acted happy" that nothing seemed wrong. Also, Kiersten told them that she showed me 3 samples and I picked the one I liked. THATS A LIE! She is keeping to that lie too, even after I told the manager and the owner got involved. So they said since I seemed happy, and Kiersten says my story isn't true, they can't do much. They offered to do the service and I have to buy the product.. but I can't ruin my hair further. I honestly just wanted an apology, and I ended up being told I was lying and they couldn't take me seriously. read more

April is a mind reader, who will give you exactly what you desire even with the vaguest description. Not to mention she's a total rockstar, with fantastic people skills. This was the first time I got my hair thinned. I made an appt with Heather and she was wonderful. I waited like 5 min which was great. She looked at my hair and I had it really long almost to my butt and I told her what I wanted which was my hair thinned and in a V shape. She did exactly what I wanted. I was impressed and I thanked her for letting my head breathe again. I definitely recommend her and it was only $30 for the cut which was a lot of hair, she cut about 6 inches of my hair. read more

EEK is RIGHT! Kiersten was my stylist. She explained to me that she taught in their hair school. She was an expert on cutting curly hair. I am in my late 60's with curly hair and this is the worse haircut I have ever had. The front sides were bushy and the back was cut correctly on one side and a huge hole cut into the other side. They made no restitution. No attempt to correct. I will not be going back and no recommendations from me. :-( read more

I have been coming to this salon before it was even vski salon. All the hair stylists here have a special touch. I would recommend all. I usually get my hair done by April. She always knows what I want and what looks the best. She has been doing my hair for over 5 years. I've also had my eye brows done here and it was great and very affordable. I had my first facial and Michael was very helpful in walking me through the steps and making me feel relaxed. I would highly recommend Vski to everyone who wants great salon services. read more
