There's plenty of parking and getting to either side of the tracks to access the north or southbound trains is super easy. Wind was very nice when sunny but real cold when cloudy! Tent camping doesn't have fire pits due to fire regulation. Came on a weekend. Place was booked up but there was never a line for the bathroom. Bathroom can get dirty but they do get cleaned. Trash picked up every morning. Staff is very helpful. Cute goats (you can buy goat feed at the general store next to the restaurant for $4.50), plenty of parking.

My feelings about Costanoa are mixed…read more The grounds and views are amazing. I wanted to take a picture everywhere I looked, and the fresh air was so relaxing. I found Costanoa to have a great variety of lodging and activity options. It's a fun trip for families or couples trying to get away from their everyday hectic life. The Cascade Restaurant was much better than I expected and everyone in my party commented on the quality of the food. I appreciated how there is a sit down restaurant and also a casual place (Pine Tent) to get lunch or dinner. The General Store had a decent selection of snacks and drinks for purchase. I didn't get to do any activities but they all looked fun! They have a playground for kids and lawn games. There are pedal karts for rent and I saw many kids just riding around on their own bikes. However, I stayed in the Bungalow Tent and I had the worst sleep ever in my life. I have had 2 children and had to wake up throughout the night to nurse, but it did not compare to the terrible sleep I had in my tent. The tent is made of sturdy canvas and it has a door and windows. I noticed that my window was broken so it didn't close completely. At night, the temperature drops quite a bit but there is no heater in the tent. They do provide heated blankets. The Outer Pine area where my tent was located, was extremely windy. I don't know if this was unusual but I am assuming it's pretty normal for the area. As a result, the tent sides were flapping continuously from about 10pm-4am. When the wind finally died down, animals (maybe raccoons) started jumping and walking on my tent roof. As a result, I could not sleep from 4-6am. I barely got any rest for my one night at Costanoa. I was staying there for a yoga retreat, so I had to do hikes and yoga the next day. Boy, was I exhausted! It's inconvenient for females to have to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It's really dark, cold, and windy, so be prepared. There is only 1 indoor shower stall in each bathroom building (why??) and I didn't even take a shower because the other women were complaining that the water kept getting cold and then hot. I do want to return to Costanoa, but I'd never stay in the tents again. I would, however, like to try staying at The Lodge!

It was the perfect getaway for myself, husband, and son. Our intention was to wind down and that's exactly what we did. Upon arrival we were greeted with Rosè and an Italian soda. Check-in was seamless. I made some last minute requests and the staff were so accommodating & made it all happen. One of the managers came out herself to greet us and communicate what was available to us. I wish I got both of their names (this was on 6/26). Once we got settled in, we heard a knock on the door and to our surprise it was the manager. She brought in a cute happy birthday sign with balloons and a card for my son. It was the sweetest thing ever and such a pleasant surprise! Great way to welcome us for our stay. The hotel grounds were very well-kept. Rooms aren't super spacious but they are very clean and have such cute details to fit the hotel theme. They offer a huge gym with extensive and high-end gym machinery. The pool is heated and is open from 7am-10pm (this was the main reason we went, my son loves the water!). This is such a plus, since you can't always predict the weather. They have two food joints to eat at on site, one is a laid back cafe type of place and the other is a sit down restaurant. What also sold us was their beer garden, which had a ton of lawn space, seating areas, and great selection of beer. This was a great option to have for us after we got done with swimming and into our pajamas. Plus when you've had a long day swimming with a toddler, the last thing you want to do is sit at a restaurant. Our son enjoyed the beer garden as much as we did, fighting his bedtime sleepiness and all! I can't wait to come back to this place.

Granted, another ten was needed to get back, but you can't really beat that if 1) you don't have to deal with traffic after the game and/or 2) you drank a few at the game and/or 3) it gets you very close to home. The station just outside the stadium was fairly packed just after the game because my idea was not original- apparently that's a popular way to get to and from the game!

Thank goodness football fans are so nice and always seem willing to let the old lady have a seat. The trains on game days are not only standing room only, but can feel like cattle cars. When the trains not full though its heaven, comfy with a bar car, restrooms and wifi, whats not to like. The Santa Clara station doesnt appear to have an operating elevator and its several levels of steps to Stadium level. But even at my slow pace it doesnt take me more than 10 mins to walk to Levis. Be sure to check the Capitol Corridor website for discounts. My train ticket this week was only 25 bucks round trip. Pretty good deal.

The Seal World This…read moreis our second time doing this Elephant Seal Tour here at Año Nuevo and we had a great time both times--despite never catching the peak either time. The tour guides/docents are well-informed, friendly and keep the tour interesting. If you're even remotely interested in nature then this tour is highly recommended and a great thing to bring out-of-town guests to. Here's a few tips to help you plan your tour: *Plan ahead and schedule your tours early thru the Reserve California website: https://bit.ly/3HvTcn7 *Tickets are $7/per person w/ an additional $4/per "registration fee." *Tours begin in November and end in March, but peak season is mid-Jan to mid-Feb. *Wear hiking boots if possible, as you'll be marching along (possibly) wet sand for most of the tour. *While it's not a strenuous hike by any stretch of the imagination, it's going to be at least 3-4miles over a 2.5-3.5hr stretch over a semi-steep, sandy terrain. *I wouldn't recommend bringing young kids under 7ish unless they're very well-behaved and don't easily get ants in their pants. But, that's just one asshole's opinion--you do you, boo. *Technically you **CAN** do a walk-up visit but you're relying on people to no-show or cancel ahead. I wouldn't rely on it but if you're in the area and you're willing to take a chance I say go for it. *You won't particularly need binoculars, because you'll be fairly close to the seals, but if you have them they're not a bad idea. *Def bundle-up and prepare for bad weather--as they will **NOT** cancel the tour due to rain. We got pelted w/ freezing rain and they pretty much just soldiered us onwards.

The rooms are clean spacious and they are also a dog friendly hotel if I'm not mistaken. They have a nice pool and outdoor seating area. The bar is an airstream that is super adorable and they have a ton of open areas to play games or just relaxed. It is tucked away in a corner away from things. I love that but for many it might not be ideal. The restaurant is a different story I am not sure if they are ran by the management but this is my review for the hotel and stay. We will def continue to stay here!
