Went tent camping here with a school trip. Tent camping: you get the brunt of the coastal wind since we were on the edge of the property facing the coast. Wind was very nice when sunny but real cold when cloudy! Tent camping doesn't have fire pits due to fire regulation. Came on a weekend. Place was booked up but there was never a line for the bathroom. Bathroom can get dirty but they do get cleaned. Trash picked up every morning. Staff is very helpful. Cute goats (you can buy goat feed at the general store next to the restaurant for $4.50), plenty of parking. read more

My feelings about Costanoa are mixed. The grounds and views are amazing. I wanted to take a picture everywhere I looked, and the fresh air was so relaxing. I found Costanoa to have a great variety of lodging and activity options. It's a fun trip for families or couples trying to get away from their everyday hectic life. The Cascade Restaurant was much better than I expected and everyone in my party commented on the quality of the food. I appreciated how there is a sit down restaurant and also a casual place (Pine Tent) to get lunch or dinner. The General Store had a decent selection of snacks and drinks for purchase. I didn't get to do any activities but they all looked fun! They have a playground for kids and lawn games. There are pedal karts for rent and I saw many kids just riding around on their own bikes. However, I stayed in the Bungalow Tent and I had the worst sleep ever in my life. I have had 2 children and had to wake up throughout the night to nurse, but it did not compare to the terrible sleep I had in my tent. The tent is made of sturdy canvas and it has a door and windows. I noticed that my window was broken so it didn't close completely. At night, the temperature drops quite a bit but there is no heater in the tent. They do provide heated blankets. The Outer Pine area where my tent was located, was extremely windy. I don't know if this was unusual but I am assuming it's pretty normal for the area. As a result, the tent sides were flapping continuously from about 10pm-4am. When the wind finally died down, animals (maybe raccoons) started jumping and walking on my tent roof. As a result, I could not sleep from 4-6am. I barely got any rest for my one night at Costanoa. I was staying there for a yoga retreat, so I had to do hikes and yoga the next day. Boy, was I exhausted! It's inconvenient for females to have to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It's really dark, cold, and windy, so be prepared. There is only 1 indoor shower stall in each bathroom building (why??) and I didn't even take a shower because the other women were complaining that the water kept getting cold and then hot. I do want to return to Costanoa, but I'd never stay in the tents again. I would, however, like to try staying at The Lodge! read more

This is for service only because some people in our party had a wormy experience at the restaurant The staff at Castanoa are awesome. We checked in this past Fri-Sun and had a nice time overall. We forgot a pot and some lady at Registration (sorry didnt catch name) let us borrow one for the weekend! Saved us a trip and expense. Security Sat evening was very cool about some issues they had with our parking and noise. They weren't aggressive like some can be at other places. But more importantly, the 2 guys working Registration Sat/Sunday morning. I cut myself pretty bad and had to go to the ER but Dusty immediately jumped into bandaging me up well enough. They were both very cool about it. I was worried they were going to make it a huge deal but handled it very calmly and discreetly ..thanks everyone!! read more

One of our favorite coastal places to camp. It's so cozy and relaxing. The groundskeepers and staff are nice. The store is really cute. The cafe has delicious food. The main restaurant was being finished this time around, but when we ate there before, we loved it. You can see gorgeous sunsets when it is not overcast. Good hiking and walking around the grounds, Close to many beaches. The only downfall in this area is limited areas for dogs on the beach. read more

I have heard about this place forever from a friend who raved about it. The website photos, which feature the bath house, are lovely and feature a big cozy fireplace. The reality is that our cabin was not inexpensive - $240 - and was dirty. I spilled a tiny bit of soup on the floor and when I wiped it up, the paper towel was filthy. The shower had dirty footprints on the floor and a dusty old spider web hanging down. Paint in the tiny bathroom was chipped. The bed appeared clean but the robes were suss and the extra blanket was beat. After looking at the floor, i was worried about the cleanliness of the dishes. The bathhouse was tired, no fire was lit. No sauna. The restaurant and spa were closed. It was a little cheerless. The in room coffee was good and plentiful and there was half and half. Our morning walk to the beach was wonderful. read more

This is probably my fifth time dining here in the last three months. Every time was great except for yesterday the waiter, a young male, kinda long hair, kept forgetting what we ordered. I ordered a Arnold Palmer. He did bring that out, after I drink my beverage, ,he asked me if I wanted a refill. I said yes, so he brought me a lemonade and he brought an iced tea to another guest and when I explained to him, I had ordered the Arnold Palmer. He giggled and said well you can mix it up and make your own. We requested bread usually they do have bread Service. It took him after. I reminded him two times halfway through our dinner to bring it out. I ordered the half chicken and that was actually delicious. We also ordered crabcakes. They're very expensive and I do not recommend the crabcakes cheeseburgers were excellent and then at the end he got the bill mixed up and it just seemed like he got attitude because I told him to fix it. He came back dropped off my bill and I could not believe what happened next. If you read all my reviews, I try to give everybody good reviews because I understand it is a business and people make their livelihood through a business and some days people are off, so I try not to give a bad review but in this case at the end of the meal, he did say thank you when he gave me bill, then he turned around and there was a very bad odor like if he gassed and left because he was upset at us during the dinner he kept giggling and saying my bad it seemed like if he was on something and I did ask him are you OK sir but I will tell you right now. I will not come back here and eat. Pescadero in such a beautiful town and the state part up there is wonderful and I really enjoyed the layout of this restaurant but after last night, I'm sorry I do not recommend this place. Today we are at Cascade! We have camped before but the dining experience today was exceptional. From start to finish it was beyond expectations. Sitting by the fire was such a treat. Our server Milo was a true gem as we frequently take forever to decide. His attention to us and our meal was again very special. I chose the wedge salad that was not only generous but delicious. The bacon cooked to perfection with ripe cherry tomatoes and mounds of blue cheese. The calamari was really a touchdown with its light crispy breading (bread crumps?) and a few peppers for that hint of heat. Outstanding my top 2 I've ever ordered. The clam chowder was so light and delicious. No heavy raw flour feeling just full of freshness. Kudos to this chef who puts out this spectacular food. We went as a group of women on retreat. We had lots of fun, but.......everything was difficult in terms of communication. It was not easy to coordiate, and we were miss-informed about a lot of things. The staff at the venue did not seem to have a sense of urgancy about much of anything....even getting new towels was a hassle. I called Logan, the manager, a week ago but still have not had a call back. It really felt like once they received our payment, they didn't care much about our stay. There was even crazy loud dominatrix sex happening at night in the cypress bungalows... like, NOT the kind of thing that you would expect to hear at a "family campground". The staff didn't seem to care. Our family has visited Coastanoa many times over the last 25 years and we have always loved it and felt like we were treated very well. It was always such a treat to go. So this visit was a big surprise and unexpected disappointment. It's extremely expensive (it used to be more affordable) for what you get. I have a feeling they are trying to target large companies who can pay more than regular individuals. It didn't used to be like that....it's sad. read more

Glamping at Costanoa was everything we needed! This place is super clean, comfy, and GORGEOUS! Set along the coast and the mountains. Coming from San Francisco, Pescadero was the perfect distance for us This family retreat had it all. A fantastic restaurant, a general store, and a fun pine tent bar/restaurant that had great music and fresh made pizza. Costanoa wanted to make fire that the grown ups had as much fun as the kids But the nature walks, and all of the beautiful birds was zen. It was peaceful. We decided to go for the 4th of July and the activities Costanoa planned for their guest was awesome! They had a parade where all the guest and dogs dressed and walked, Bingo, and music. Fun! Fun! Fun! 5 stars to the staff and care they gave to all of us guest and the to the establishment. We stayed in the tent bungalow with the amazing heated blankets. They had WI-FI! We just finished our first trip to Costanoa and we have mixed reviews. What makes this review special, is that we switched sites midway through our trip. This made for completely different experiences. Our first site was super cramped and awkwardly appointed. We had our neighbor's fire pit near the break door of our trailer. We breathed their smoke, heard their conversations, and it was entirely too close. Our second site was outstanding. The site had tons of space, great views, a patio, furniture, and a huge grass area for anyone to use. The restaurant was fantastic. The food and service were top-notch. The store was well stocked and the staff were friendly. At check in, they asked if I was going to fly any flags. This question caught me off guard as I had never been asked this question at any RV resort. Flags are one of those things you see alot of at RV resorts. I kind of enjoy seeing people's flags. But at this resort, I didn't see any flags. I didn't see the campground fly any american flags either which was also a first. I didn't ask any further questions about their flag rules, since I was worried about what their answer might be. Very strange. This resort is pretty far from any grocery stores, so be sure to come prepared. Also, do your homework on the sites. Choosing the wrong site could really mess up your trip. read more

What a gem of a location along highway 1 betweenHalf Moon Bay and Santa Cruz! It's probably a little pricier than your average RV park but you get what you pay for. If you land a prime site the RV space will be in full view of the Pacific Ocean just a half mile from a morning walk. On certain days they have an evening hour with a S'mores cart for kids. Also, they pair that with a beverage cart that has canned cocktails at the ready! We have only been here twice but my family has intercepted our plans and posted up here before we arrived in a 32 foot Montana. Anyway, we were good with our Caravel and had no problem get into and hooking up to the utilities! We will be back for sure. Why the negative reviews I can't say but if you are in that mindset then more for us! read more

aesthetic: 4.5/5 food: 5/5 service: 5/5 costanoa is a hidden gem for a weekend getaway from sf!! we stayed here for a long weekend to try glamping and loved how quaint and reasonably-priced this retro-esque resort is. we appreciate the staff putting together a communal fire pit for everyone to use and roast marshmallows on - no need to purchase firewood for smores if you're up to make new friends by the campfire. one aspect of costanoa we were looking forward to was the sauna. unfortunately, it's really small and next to the bathrooms, so i would recommend going early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the crowds and actually feel at peace. however, the sauna is a much-needed amenity, especially after going on one of the campsite's beautiful coastal hikes (the trailheads are conveniently on the resort). to my surprise, the best part about costanoa is... the vegan breakfast burrito!! if costanoa was a bit closer, i 100% would drive here weekly to get that fix. as someone with a plant-based diet, i very much appreciate costanoa having menu options for various dietary needs. overall, costanoa is the spot to visit if you're looking for a scenic retreat or gifting someone an experience without breaking the bank. nothing like one of their solid breakfast burritos to top off a relaxing stay in the redwoods ;) read more

Stayed here for one night in the C14 cypress tent bungalow. I had a wonderful, restful stay. My tent bungalow had a small patio deck that overlooked nature so it was very peaceful to look out to for sunrise. The grounds are beautiful. The nearby trails were lovely, and I saw deer in the dunes by the beach at sunset, which was magical. The ridge trail looks and smells gorgeous in the early morning! The service and food at the restaurant was outstanding. I enjoyed the vegan options, thank you! Easy access to the bathrooms and loved the outdoor shower! My critiques would be to have different choice for nightstands, possibly small lights on the paths to the bungalow and better placement for the mirror inside. I was grateful for the towels and robe! I have been coming to Coastanoa for year's, arrived today to find a construction site. The roof is being repaired and the lodge surroundings are full of roofing materials, workers and machinery. The whole vibe is wrong. I would love to sit out on the balcony , but there are laborers on the roof next to me, pounding nails.. no privacy. I am so upset, this is (was) my annual birthday celebration location. We love this place, but decided we didn't want to stay, we were then told we booked through Expedia, we didn't, and they couldn't refund. we booked directly through their website, perhaps it was pushed to a booking service, HotelsOne? Had their website stated that the lodge was under construction we would not have booked this time, and come back another time. We feel cheated of our peaceful weekend away read more

I loved visiting this campsite! We went in September so there was really not a lot of people there. There is only one shower but everything was clean! The light house campsites don't have any fire pits. I loved the onsite cascade restaurant. They had a great variety of beer, mocktails, and food. The 24/7 security was also really nice! If you do go to the lighthouse campsite chosen the site 00-02 as these are the furthest from the goats. read more

This was a fun campground and very family oriented. We stayed in a cabin and the room was clean and the daily room service was a pleasant surprise. The beach trail was a nice distance hike and easy for kids as well. The only negative experience we had was another fellow camper wearing a sonic costume, tormenting the children who were playing throughout the campground. She was following them around relentlessly and allowing her out of control dog-off leash to wreak havoc. We tried our best to steer clear of her and eventually the campground staff explained that she is a regular visitor and that she suffers multiple mental illnesses and that her husband allows her out when he needs a break-so in return we gave her a bit of grace. Beautiful coastal campground with great hiking trail and trail to the beach but you do have to cross the highway. We stayed in a cabin which are duplexes. Very rustic yet stylish. The bed had the most comfy mattress and 4 comfy pillows, there was a coffee maker and coffee- you'll need to bring your own water. My only complaint was the filthy carpet in the cabin- very gross, sticky and dirty spots everywhere. Other than that everything else in the cabin was perfect. The restaurant had absolutely delicious food and drinks, the Pizza Hut not so good. The craft activities, bingo and bike rentals etc all fun . I would have liked more craft activities which require more participation and that would be worth the fee. The candle craft was 20 dollars and all we did was pick the scent and decorate a stick on label - the craft host actually did all the rest which wasn't much. The poured wax and the scent into a jar with a wick and instructed us to wait a week before lighting. My advice would be to find out the specifics of each activity before signing up. All in all it was a great experience - just watch out for that cabin carpet! read more

I'd stayed here in the past, but it had been several years, just had a quick couples getaway for a last-minute weekend and wow, it has grown! We were on the fence about coming back after seeing some recent negative reviews, but are so glad that we did. After a bit of a hiccup with check-in, we were in our tent cabin and off to grab some dinner. The cabin was well maintained, and there was a live band playing over in another area that added a cool vibe. Comfort stations were well maintained, small store and restaurant are available. They had lots of activities going for families/kids and have really expanded the RV area. Planning to come back with our trailer and bring the kids! read more

Just returned from an overnight at Costanoa. I've stayed a handful of times over the last 25 yrs, including taking my work team down there for an overnight... so I really lke the place. It's a special place... an opportunity to spend the night on the coast and be among the trees vs at a hotel in a town... It's picturesque and quiet with easy trails to get to the coast or other trails into the hills rising behind the property... You can stay in your own RV or rent a tent or a cabin, or a room in their lodge. Ano Nuevo and the elephant seals is 5 min away... Pigeon Point lighthouse also 5 min away... and between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz... This past time, we also ate at the restaurant a couple times... food was quite good, ample portions. I'd be an easy '4' except for a couple things... The bed was horrendous in our lodge room... and I think that was the case the last time as well... Long overdue for a new bed... and looking around, lots of the place looks a little tired.. but somewhat to be expected in a location where weather and the outdoors take an above average toll.... And when I told the front desk about it at check-out, they really didn't care. ... Would readily return except for the bed quality.... no matter how beautiful, if we can't get a decent night's sleep, not likely. read more

This is our third stay at Costanoa and we've enjoyed each visit. The tent cabinets are cozy and clean- very simple, but with the electric blanket and quality bed, it is very comfortable. The highlight for this visit was supper this evening at the Costanoa's restaurant - Cascade Restaurant and Bar. Quality of ingredients and preparation is top of the line, the dining room is cheerful and clean, and the service is excellent. Special shout out to Darby for great service at the bar, including handling a special food order and mixing an excellent 'old-fashioned'. I'd also like to give a shout out to the manager, Alex, who was clearly doing a great job of keeping everything running smoothly and lending a hand when needed. Don't miss the roasted local brussels sprouts and the delicious cascade burger. We will be back! read more

Beware - This Campsite Does Not Honor Price Agreements After Deposit I normally don't leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience to help future campers avoid the same issue. After securing a reservation at this campsite and paying a deposit based on an agreed-upon rate, I was later informed that the price had changed--and not in my favor. Despite having a confirmation and proof of the original rate, the management refused to honor the agreement, insisting on a higher fee upon arrival or threatening to cancel the reservation. At one point during negotiations the manager, Alex, offered another site at a discounted rate then went back on their word and avoided all my calls. Several employees agreed I was in the right but that the manager refuses to honor my contract. I was told they can change the price at any time, based on the market, which is why it is called an estimate. Charging $85 more a night is not an estimate it's not even In the ball park. Even with a contract they told me if I didn't like it I could waste my time and take them to court. I'll do them one better, I'll share this story. This behavior is not only unprofessional, it's unethical. When a business accepts a deposit, they are entering into a contract. To go back on that without proper justification undermines trust and shows a lack of respect for patrons. Campsites should be a place of transparency and integrity--especially when travelers make plans, arrange transportation, and often come with families or groups relying on those plans. Unfortunately, this location failed on that front. We've been to this campsite before when it was a KOA. We had enjoyed it so much we decided to return only to find they are no longer a KOA. Maybe this explains the lack of customer service and regards for customer satisfaction. I strongly urge potential guests to get everything in writing and be cautious when booking. Better yet, choose a campsite that values honesty and respects its customers enough to honor its agreements. Your peace of mind, time, and money deserve better. read more

While driving to Moss Beach we decided to take a detour and explore Costanoa. Even though we didn't stay overnight we walked through the grounds and were genuinely impressed. The entrance is lined with trees and opens into a sun-filled beautifully maintained area with plenty of space to explore. The layout felt organized and inviting with hiking trails nearby and a calm peaceful atmosphere. We stopped by the gift store and were pleasantly surprised by how well stocked it was. From books and games to camping essentials it had everything you might want whether you are staying for the night or just passing through. The gentleman working there was incredibly helpful. He explained the pricing and answered all our questions about the property and his friendliness made the visit even more enjoyable. As we walked around it was clear that people of all ages were having a great time. There were places to eat relax and hang out including a giant outdoor chessboard and other fun amenities for those who prefer to stay on the grounds rather than hike or go to the beach. Based on this short visit alone Costanoa left a great impression. read more

We stayed here for three nights camping. We loved it. It has everything you need. It has beautiful trails and the beach across the street that no one is hardly on. It's about a half a mile walk. We enjoyed the restaurant there. The food was great the service we loved everything about this place they had a nice special that really made us come here where you get two nights and the third night is free so that was a bonus because it is on the pricey side, but it is resort camping highly recommend can't wait to come back read more
