I had heard and read great things about this spot but was definitely disappointed. The grocery selection is good but way overpriced as everything you can find elsewhere in San Miguel for less money. The menu had great potential but the food was just not up to par, I ordered the chili rellenos and by the time I received my food the cheese was coagulated and cold but the flavors were spot on. My dining partners ordered a salad and a veggie burger, the veggie burger was not cooked all the way and the salad was a bit warm and soggy. The just missed the mark all the way around for me, I do love the location and the seating arrangements though. read more

This review is for the small store located in Col. Guadalupe. I would not recommend coming here. The girl working there is very pretentious. She did not say hello to me or even ask if I needed help. I bought several things (which btw are priced the same as American prices or more). I put all my items on the counter and went to grab one more item in the refrigerator right next to me thinking she would start to ring up my items. Instead another customer entered, she immediately said hello to him and knew his name, and let him go in front of me! Yes, she literally rang up his items instead of mine. She asked how he was doing etc. And they also decided to grab a few more things at checkout so I had to wait while they decided what else they wanted. When it was my turn, she did not speak to me, not even to say thank you, come back again, did you find everything you needed. Literally not one word was spoken to me. So I guess since I'm not part of this special clique I was treated like I wasn't welcomed there. I found many other organic stores in the area so I will spend my money there. Went last night to dinner at Via Orgánica, was amazed to see that they were also a market with fresh organic Vegetables and fruits inside the restaurant , their beads also looked amazing. True farm to table,We had dinner last night, sat on the roof top to dine. The food was exceptional and very tasty! I had a thanksgiving dinner Turkey, Stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and sweet potato's and a splash of cranberry sauce. Other people at our table had ribeye steak and sea bass. Everything was organic and fresh. We later enjoyed desserts, a incredible cheesecake with chocolate bottom, chocolate cake and assorted pies, atmosphere was so Pleasant, staff was excellent! read more

A group of 6 of us from all over the US met in SMA for my 40th birthday. I knew I wanted to do a group horse riding trip and there was more than one choice and I'm so glad I went with Via Organica. We had a fantastic time--Humberto was hilarious, the trip was mellow enough for non-experienced riders (we had 3 people) and the meal stop along the tour was DELICIOUS! Home run! This is your horseback riding experience in SMA. Also, if you're hippie dippy with an interest in sustainable ag (three of us in the group met at a hardcore social justice/environmental college in AZ) Humberto's farm will be your JAM! Amazing to see the operation he's grown over four years. We ate breakfast at the restaurant our last morning in SMA. The food was fresh and wonderful--our only critique: more seasoning. In terms of another reviewer's criticism of price--it's definitely more expensive here as almost all of the food in the restaurant is coming from the farm and organic/sustainable costs more to produce. Humberto gives a farm tour before the ride and told us the eggs make almost no profit due to high cost of feed. But we were an experienced group of consumers. I worked on an organic farm and have a personal passion for local/sustainable food practices. So go in knowing you are paying more than anywhere else in the city. We all agreed this was our favorite event during our 6 days in SMA! read more

This place is tucked away outside of the town center, so it feels a little quieter than a lot of the touristy restaurants up the street. I went here for breakfast with a group of 8, a bit of a squeeze for the small market/restaurant, but they have a back room that had enough room for us. Our group had two vegans (me included), and while we were impressed by how many vegetarian options the menu had, we were a bit disappointed that they had basically no vegan option for breakfast. We ordered from the lunch menu, which is fine, but not ideal. I had the vegetarian burrito, and I naively didn't think to double check & it ended up having cheese in it, even though it wasn't listed on the menu. My boyfriend (the other vegan) ordered the tamales and he loved them - no cheese in those. Everyone else in the group enjoyed their meals. I would give this place 5 stars if they include a couple of clearly marked vegan options on the menu (especially if a tofu scramble is one of them!) The market itself is also gorgeous. If it hadn't been my last day in Mexico, I would've bought some of the fresh produce or homemade salsa and kombucha! read more

This review is for our visit to the Via Organica farm and the wonderful brunch we had there on October 12, 2019. They provided transportation from SMA to the farm (about 20 minutes away). Started with a 6K bike ride around the farm with a stops along the way to enjoy the views and animals (sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits). Food is just delicious. I had tomato basil soup ,no cream ,perfect texture and flavor. Found many vegan choices and my hummus avocado sandwich was really good. On focaccia bread with avocado/olives /onions /tomatoes/cucumber. Also came with potatoes and side salad. Everything was very, very good, charming waitstaff.. Shop and organic market with classes and workshops at the farm I wish I had more time to explore. read more

Such a great store and cafe! There's fresh produce, organic/gluten free/locally made etc packaged products, a juice bar, and restaurant/cafe (breakfast seating in the back). Friendly staff and delicious smells from the kitchen. Their menu looks so enticing and will definitely be posting more pics of food soon. Thank God it's near the place we're renting Haha! Rip off, honestly. Ordered a burrito that literally was the size of my hand, and I am a small woman. Looked and tasted like a Costco microwave burrito... perhaps not as good. Menu says every Mexican item comes with salad, rice, and beans. I was expecting a lot of food, which was great because I came in starving! Only got the salad, and like I said, a tiny meal for too much money. Left the restaurant disappointed, still hungry, and having been charged WAY too much. Any other restaurant in SMA will give you 3x the food for this price, and it'll have 10x the flavor. Totally cramped inside, too, making it really awkward. If my boyfriend even moved his knee he his the person at the table next to us. Super over rated place... don't waste your time and money. read more

The food here is organic and locally grown - it tastes nutrient-rich and fresh like it just came from someone's garden. I loved the cucumber and ginger juice. My salad was fantastic and I don't usually like salads. I LOVED my vegetable soup. Also, it's a really cute place in an artsy neighborhood (numerous wall murals and brightly colored buildings). The restaurant is also a market and has charming gardens and levels to walk through. I wish I could live there. read more

Best organic store in San Miguel. The homemade ice cream is unbelievable. The Ginger and Eggnog are my favorite, so creamy. The organic chicken salad is unbelievable too. This is my friend's favorite spots in San Miguel, but admittedly he likes it for the atmosphere. It's nice, off the beaten track. And usually much quieter than places in town. Unfortunately the food just is not good.. not prepared well, flat flavors, and surprisingly cheap ingredients for an organic place. We were here three times... breakfast, a lunch and dinner... and tried a bit of everything... everything was disappointing. The simple dishes like a chicken breast or fish just had no flavor and sides were blah. The Americanized dishes like burrito and nachos were awful. Anyway, if you need a quiet place to sit it's okay, just don t expect good food. read more

We heard about this place from a local so we had to check it out. The make their own beer which was the purpose of our visit. I had the pale ale and my partner had the prickly pear beer. They also had a stout on which we tried and it was classic. Well worth the walk! We only stayed for drinks but the food going to other tables looked great. They also have an organic market with produce and locally made items. They have a great roof deck that they let us check out. Service was fantastic! Meal was incredible! I selected an item from their classic Mexican Entree and fell in love with the Chicken Mole. It was not overly chocolaty and thick. The consistency was smooth and just right!! The chicken was tender and fell off the bone. The tortillas were just the right texture. The Cerveza Orgánica de Tuna was a beautiful complement. The Bruschetta was perfect and the salad nice and crisp with a flavorful Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. They also have a variety of take out food. So nice to branch out from the tourist epicenter of SMA to somewhere a bit more cozy and community-minded. We had excellent meals, fresh garsen salad with jicama and homemade dressings, and I had a delicious enmolada with cheese. Great little restaurant attached to this market. My friend had to pick up a few organic items and it was lunch time, so we ate in the restaurant. I had a very good chile relleno stuffed with not only cheese but some zucc and it came with great black beans (refried) and killer rice plus an amazing side salad. We were surprised to be disappointed last night. We've enjoyed breakfast here, but our dinner just wasn't great, and the service was v-e-r-y slow. Although the place didn't appear to be crowded, our meal took at least 45 minutes. My chicken tamale seemed to be a vegetarian tamale with shredded chicken and sauce over the top. The turkey burger was good, but the toasted bun was cold by the time it arrived at our table. The chicken Milanese had no sauce and was cool when it arrived. One of our party ordered a salad as her entree, then like the rest of us, got a dinner salad first. I must say the salad dressings were very good, though. We're not hard people to please, but with so many great places to eat in town, we might come back for breakfast but probably not for dinner. read more

I was impressed as soon as i walked in and saw the cooks in chef's attire - it just gives a nice touch. It is not often that you find a genuine organic restaurant in Mexico with extensive vegetarian options. The wait staff was attentive and very professional. I had the vegetarian tamales w/tomato sauce. It came with an absolutely delish salad. All in all I thought it was very satisfying and a good bang for the buck. After my meal, I shopped the attached market. There were a lot of interesting offerings that I am sure are hard to find in Mexico (even in SMA). I did not find it all that overpriced as others have mentioned ... I mean, seriously, Whole Foods is a lot more expensive than the prices at this market. I believe, first and foremost, that a restaurant should strive to deliver a consistent performance. And I hope that Via Organica will improve in this regard because I live in the neighborhood, i have referred others, and I hope to return for a positive experience. I go there maybe twice a month. The prices are moderate (if increased would be high). Four times out of six, I have a nice experience. The other two: poor service. Today, for example, the waiter attended the neighboring table twice without so much as a "hello." I called out to him. He took my simple order and forgot it by the time he got downstairs. Now, when the experience is not up to par, it's usually the server. But today, something also happened in the kitchen: a sad salad, an old tortilla, dry chicken, substandard burrito filling. In short, even the food missed its mark. In looking at other recent reviews, I hope this is not a trend. I'll try one or two times again, but if this experience repeats...well, there are many choices in SMA for good and healthy eats. read more
