They responded to my text amazingly fast. I texted them early Sunday morning around 7 AM. Told me someone would be coming by 11-1 PM. I thought that was awesome. BTW not a fan of AI, but their AI call center is amazing. 1 PM (name withheld) shows up with his tool bag and walks in. He seemed to be in a hurry on the way in and on the way out. He pulls the refrigerator off the wall, does (something?) Pushes it back and tells me "my compressor is dead". He sends me an estimate for $1046.78. I place $100 cash down to get repairs booked so I now owe $946.78 on a "dead compressor" repair. He then scoots out the door after maybe 15 minutes. Knowing a compressor failure is a costly failure, it caused us quite a bit of stress. I decided, against the advice of my wife, to still give ProStar a try. She was ready to cancel repairs and buy a new costly refrigerator which I talked her out of because I know almost all brands are garbage except for Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid. Here comes Shawn on Tuesday. Super guy, diagnosed the problem correctly with pictures for me, got to the part that was actually malfunctioning (freezer fan assembly with faulty sensor causing a big block of ice over it) and got it back up running for way less than "a dead compressor" like "expert" (name withheld) said. $481 bill plus my $100 deposit. I'm giving you all 4-5 stars because of the initial poor customer service I got.

Gilbert responded very quickly to my request and scheduled an appointment that week. He showed up as scheduled and replaced my ice maker. Unfortunately the replacement ice maker also did not work after the repair was completed and after I had paid in full for the service. Gilbert let me know that he would come out sometime in the following week to check on his replacement. During the course of his second visit to repair my ice maker, my refrigerator lost all function in the course of his repairs/diagnostics. He explained to me why he believed the root cause was a manufacturing defect but took no responsibility for the total loss of function of my refrigerator while it was in his hands. I have now paid for an ice maker repair that never happened as well as had to purchase a new refrigerator to replace my dead unit. Gilbert is a nice guy and should be trusted with simple repair tasks. I would be cautious in hiring him for anything perceived to be difficult. I would not recommend going with G & I Appliances Repairs based on my personal experience.

Awful, Awful Business-Run!!…read more This business refuses to show up when scheduled; they have a contract to repair a brand, but they simply ignore the scheduled appointment and make up their own. When contacted, the phone person just talked loudly over what I was saying, repeating herself until it was pointless to keep trying to get help. I asked for a call from the owner: nothing. They are a huge waste of time.

Most recently I needed to have a microwave repaired using my home warranty services (the magnetron went out). I submitted the request online and I was provided the contractor of "Old Guys Appliance Repair." After about a day I did not get contact, so I called the number provided to me. No luck in contacting them directly. Next, I contacted my warranty provider and they were able to make contact and then shortly thereafter Old Guys contacted me to coordinate the service. (notable point: this was after Christmas and around New Years.. so it was still in that "holiday" window and that could be reason for their delayed responses and them being busy) Old Guys and I worked out a time for service the next day after they called me. On that day Greg, the technician, showed up ahead of schedule and was able to repair my microwave without issue well within the scheduled time frame. As a technical person myself who has worked on items like this, I was able to provide him with the serial number, model number, wattage, etc. before he showed up. Who would have thought, he actually READ my notes and had the needed parts ahead of time. I have had services scheduled before for my appliances and MANY TIMES techs do not get the notes or never read them, so they show up ill prepared for the call. This results with wasted time and parts delays. Not Greg and not Old Guys. In the end, he kept a clean work area and was able to remove my built in microwave, replace the parts, install it back again, and ensure that it worked with no hassle. He had a great demeanor, he was professional, and he was courteous. I would easily recommend Old Guys the next time someone needs appliance repairs. *Note* I live in the Austin/Round Rock, Texas area, though this business is listed in San Antonio their "local" technician was from Cedar Park. So it appears that they have regional support in some areas other than San Antonio.

The technician has ghosted me for over a month despite multiple texts and calls to them, and I am very tempted to call the attorney general for bad business practice. DO NOT EVER USE THIS SERVICE!!!!! Edit 8/1/25 It turns out the service I used was a scam using this company name. While I understand that I was scammed by a bad player, I wasn't offered any help, not even asking if they could come out to check the appliance and fix it properly. All I got was an explanation of what their invoice looks like and that they were the only one who would have visited. No assistance, no offer of help, no building of customer relations, just a sorry we are not responsible....tough luck. They are aware of the scams, it would be wise to warn their loyal customers of the threats and to take measures to ensure the bad players don't ruin their good name or to take measures to make their services top of the search list in google.

So I searched under appliance repair, even though it wasn't the actual appliance I was needing to Find parts for, and randomly chose a company to call and am glad I chose this company! They could have easily said 'he didn't have what I need when I told the gentleman what I was looking. Instead he took the time to explain what material and tools I needed to look for at a home improvement store, then went on to tell me how to make what I needed, including fabricating the wall plate with the leftover material. Polite, friendly, knowledgeable and just good costumer service, I will definitely be saving their information for future needs.
