San Diego summer weather makes for an incredible backdrop -- overcast or sunny -- and either way it's worth a stop at Malibu Farm. If you haven't stumbled onto it at Seaport Village, or you've walked past and wondered whether it's any good, it is. I've been a few times. Stopping in on a random overcast Tuesday after a harbor walk, just for breakfast, didn't disappoint again. It was early in the shift, so the always-attentive staff at the upstairs bar had time to give me the inside scoop. The manager, Brittany, told me to get the Fried Egg Sandwich and add avocado. Parker, behind the bar, chimed in with the pro move: spicy aioli. It's the right amount of spice for me. Could be a Scoville degree above mild for some, but it works. The dynamic duo didn't steer me wrong. Hooray for great staff and amazing service. Coffee, orange juice, and a water to wash it all down. Delicious. (Not an alcohol kind of morning, but weekend brunch is the move too.) Order the eggs over easy for the sandwich; they tend to arrive closer to over medium by the time they reach you. It all comes together. Done. From earlier stop-ins, the menu across the board is fantastic. It's fresh. It's tasty. It's varied. Sitting outside at the bar or the tables beside it gives you a view of the Navy ships rolling in and the jet skiers rolling out. DO NOT QUESTION. JUST GO! I have been dying to go after seeing videos online, and I finally made it on over. It is a gorgeous restaurant with some of the tastiest food options. There are so many items on the menu I want to try. When you are sitting at your table, you can't help but look at everyone's dishes. Every dish they bring out looks amazing. The portions are much larger than I expected, and every bite is full of flavor. We tried the green egg scramble, their nachos with avocado, and their burger. Every dish I would get again. The nachos are a bit pricey, which can turn you away (adding avocado and making them beefy can add up to 12 dollars to your nachos); however, these nachos were some of the best I have had. Every item is SOOOOOO FRESH, which makes a huge difference. I did get an iced spiced chai latte, and wish it had a little bit more flavor, but next time I am interested in seeing if their hot is better. We also got a lemon lime soda, and it was decent but the complaint again was we wish it had a little bit more flavor. Our server, Austin, was so kind and was constantly checking in on us. He also made it a nice experience for us. Lastly, We walked up close to 11am and we were seated right away (2 in our party). If we wanted outside seating we would have had to wait 15 minutes, but the inside seating and the concept practically makes it feel like the inside is outside, too! ​We had an incredible experience at Malibu Farm! The upstairs outdoor patio bar and restaurant area offers a absolutely beautiful view overlooking the ocean. They even have overhead heaters for the cooler afternoons and evenings, which makes the whole space feel even more warm and inviting. ​We opted to sit right at the bar and were treated to some of the best crafted cocktails we've ever had, thanks to Laura and Taylor. They were absolutely awesome and so friendly! Even though the bar was incredibly busy, they still made time to genuinely interact with us answering questions, laughing, and joking all while serving everyone at the bar without missing a single beat. ​Their hustle and hospitality didn't go unnoticed, almost everyone sitting around us commented to them about how amazing the cocktails were. The view is incredible, the decor sets the perfect vibe, the food is very good, and the service is fast and friendly. Such a wonderful place to take someone from out of town! If you're picking up someone from the airport during the day, drive here immediately, and take them for a bite! The views alone make it worthwhile to come have a meal here. This restaurant has farm to table vibes with a cute chicken coop out front. We came here for lunch on a busy holiday weekend Saturday with a party of six. The quoted wait time was about an hour and a half, so we were pleasantly happy when we were seated in just about an hour. Our server was fantastic from the start. We mentioned that a few people in our group were on a bit of a time constraint, and he immediately made sure to get our drink and food orders in quickly. Throughout the meal, he stayed attentive, checked in often, and accommodated all of our requests with a great attitude. I visited Malibu Farm in San Diego for Mother's Day weekend, and you really can't beat the location. Sitting right on the harbor and getting to watch all the water sports out on the water makes for a fantastic dining atmosphere. Everything we ordered had a very fresh and bright feel to it, though there were a few misses on execution. The Stop Light Tacos was a good sampler. The chicken taco was easily my favorite of the three. The steak taco was just average, but the butternut squash taco is very spicy. I was really excited to dig into the Catch of the Day, especially for the crispy fish skin. However, the skin hadn't been descaled properly, which made it pretty unappetizing and hard to eat. The Seasonal Juice was Absolutely delicious and perfectly refreshing for a warm day by the water. Overall, the vibe, the views, and the refreshing drinks made for a lovely Mother's Day outing. While the menu concepts are wonderfully fresh and bright, some of the dish executions (like the fish scales and overly spicy squash) definitely leave some room for improvement. read more

Bright from natural sunlight, airy, clean and plenty of seating. Great concept. Would have liked more of the delicious sauce. - Barramundi (catch of the day) - well executed. Crispy skin, perfectly cooked fish, and a really good carrot purée. The Fresno sauce wasn't my favorite because it was too runny and didn't cling to the fish. - Carrot cake - a must get. Warm, moist, and flavorful. The home made granola added nice texture, though a bit more sauce would've improved the balance. The restaurant itself is in a great spot in Seaport Village with nice surroundings and easy access to the waterfront. We sat inside and it was still a bit chilly with the doors open. The french toast was so decadent, drenched in a creamy blueberry cream cheese filling that wasn't too dense. Every bite was light and fluffy, yet warm and crispy thanks to the cast iron preparation and presentation. Very comforting and delicious for a hearty brunch. Definitely on the pricey side for a not so big portion, but you can't beat the location so close to the water you can stare out all day. For brunch, we enjoyed: - The "Surfers Rancheros", a vegetarian, gluten-free dish served with crispy tortilla, fried egg, roasted potato, black beans, butternut squash, zucchini, ranchero salsa, pickled onion, cotija cheese, sour cream, avocado, and cilantro. No notes on this dish! 5/5, all the components on this dish were divine! - The "Fried Egg Sandwich" was a hearty, scrumptious bite. Fried egg smothered in Havarti cheese, bacon, and an arugula salad tossed in lemon aioli, this sandwich struck an excellent balance of tangy, rich flavors. - The kids' "Swedish mini pancakes" were also a great bite, my littles thoroughly enjoyed. FIVE STARS all around - food, service, and ambiance. Food - We ordered the nachos. Probably the best nachos I've had in awhile. All the flavors were complimentary and great quality. We both ordered the ribeye. I held the tomatoes on mine. The steak was perfectly seasoned and tender. I wish the mushrooms were on the steak instead of partially on the salad. But really, this was the best steak I've had in the past six months! The strawberry matcha latte with oatmilk was creamy and not too sweet, just right. The grilled cake was light, a little on the dry side but good. The chia pudding (vegan) was the only thing I wouldn't get again - it had a chaulky flavor that I didn't care for. Service was A+ with Gabriel. He was professional, attentive, and knowledable. We celebrated my friend's birthday a couple of weeks early since he was visiting from RI, and he made us feel special. Popular Bayside restaurant with great views to match the great food. Weekends are busy and they don't take reservations during the day so get there early to put your name on the waitlist then walk around Seaport until they text you. Our waister Sonny was friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is diverse and they have a full bar of drinks. We weren't drinking ETOH cuz we were still on the clock but we Loved our food. We had to wait for 15-30 minutes for a table, but the surrounding area is nice, and we were able to walk around while waiting for our table. The restaurant is huge- it has both indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated on the patio area, and we had a nice view of the water. We ordered the Coconut french toast and the lobster mac and cheese. We really liked the french toast, it had a nice coconut flavor and the whipped cream and fruit were nice. We didn't like the mac and cheese quite as much, the pasta was on the overcooked side and the cheese sauce tasted kinda like velveeta.
