I know going to the dentist isn't usually something people leap for joy over, but I had to write a review for this location. They are really friendly, sometimes bordering on corny, but I like that. It breaks up the tension and anxiety. I try not to write reviews until I've been somewhere a few times, so here it goes. My first time, I felt like they gave me the "works." I was greeted, walked around with a kind of mini tour, explained the xrays I'd take initially, and then shown to my room. Everyone working seems to be connected with one another through technology, so you can hear them indicate which client is ready for different things,and I like that. It cuts down on wasted time. Also, I enjoy that one is asked about future goals regarding teeth, and concerns. Everyone is different, and it is great that they ask this! I've never had a cavity, and while I don't have the straightest teeth in the world, I'm really not interested in fixing it. My concerns are more like "I don't want a cavity. I want to avoid sensitivity, and I'd like to keep ALL my teeth healthy and in my mouth for as long as possible." I felt heard and like the fact that whitening, straightening, and cosmetic stuff isn't trying to be sold to me. My concerns are addressed by offering sealants, which I thought was great. With that being said, *I* brought up in my recent visit that I was interested in smoothing down a chip that I've had for years in my front teeth, due to my upcoming engagement photos. They were very helpful in explaining pricing and we got it done all in the same visit. If you're looking for a dental practice, I really recommend this specific location. Hey there, I've been with W dental since 2019. Recently they sent a bill to collections without letting me know I even had a bill due. I went to pay it but it turns out that it was a bill from 2022. They did not bill my insurance for it back then and tried to bill them 3.5 years later. My insurance denied it since it wasn't billed in a timely manner. And W dental sent it to collections without informing me. I am upset because I don't think It was my responsibility to pay it but I did because I was unaware of the laws on medical bills. Please make sure to call your insurance and check Texas laws on medical bills before paying when it was their responsibility to bill my insurance in a timely manner. They do not care about you as a person or they would have talked to me before sending me to collections and told me the real reason my insurance denied them. Dr Tom is the best dentist I've ever been to. I recently moved here from Minnesota and had a mess of issues after many years of refusing to see a dentist. He truly cared about helping me and brightening my smile along with improving my confidence and health. The hygienist there is also amazing, sweet, and very thorough on her cleaning and gum care. The front desk is run by Alicia and she is not only funny but very beautiful also! I have always feared going to the dentists office and because of the team at W Dental, I truly look forward to my next visit. The office and the staff are all very nice. However... I went in for an initial exam about a year ago (mid 2015). Everything was fine, but my insurance didn't cover the stuff they wanted to do. So I left and didn't go back. Got new insurance, found another dentist closer to work. Except... About a month after my visit to W, I started getting emails. And letters. And texts. And voicemails. They're about once a month now. The last time they called & I answered, I politely informed the nice lady that I was not interested in further messages or appointment reminders, and that I would not be returning. She thanked me, we said goodbye, all was well. Until... This was in my mailbox today (verbatim; the grammatical errors are theirs, not mine. My attempted translations are in the brackets): "WE MISSED YOU! HAVE WE DONE SOMETHING WRONG? [Why don't you love me?!] This isn't normally like you, so I can't help but wonder if I did something wrong? [I've been watching you sleep.] If we did anything to offend you I would like to know so that we can talk things over and make sure that you get the best care possible. [Was it the homemade ice cream soup I FedExed to you? Or the letters? I can stop the letters! I will cut off my hand, just please TALK TO ME!] I know life gets busy and it's easy to let things go by, but it's really important to keep up with your regular dentist visits. [I just can't help but worry about your teeth...you rich, tasty teeth...] Considering that 4 out of every 5 adults suffer from gum disease, it worries me when patients miss their hygiene appointments. [Sometimes I sleep with extracted teeth to feel closer to my patients. It's not weird,] As I've said before, I'll always be here for you to help and support you. [I used a water pik to etch your likeness into the tartar on another patient's molar yesterday...didn't quite get the eyes, but it was close] I.'d much rather see you come in for a teeth cleaning now than versus pulling a tooth or having to do a root canal later. [It would be a shame if I had to hurt you.] I'm pretty sure you feel the same too. High-pressure sales tactics are one thing, but this...this is just a blatant (and really kind of sad) attempt at psychological manipulation, to say nothing of how creepy and stalkery it is. I am very dissatisfied with W Dental Group and strongly considering filing a complaint with the State Board of Dental Examiners. I don't even know where to begin with my dissatisfaction, so I will start from the beginning. About 4 years ago I took my entire family to the W Dental Group for all my Dental needs. I immediately noticed that the turnover rate in the office was very high. Almost every time I or my family went in the office we would see a different dentist or hygienist. That being said, everyone was nice. At some point during our visits, one of the dentist recommended by daughter be fitted with braces and made it seem as if there was an orthodontist on staff in the office. We agreed to have the braces put on our 9 year old daughter. When it came time to put the braces on...the actual work was not bone by an orthodontist. Not done by a dentist, but rather someone that I do no believe had even been to dental school. They do this work under the in direct supervision of the dentist, who is not even in the room when the work is done. When it comes times for adjustments, the dentist takes a look at my daughters teeth and then instructs this person on what adjustments need to be made to the braces and leaves the room. The dentist does not even look at the braces after this "assistant" makes the adjustments. Over the thirty months, there have been no less than 5 different dental assistants making adjustments to my daughters teeth, but never the actual dentist. My daughter has now had braces for around 30 months. I have long ago paid for the braces. At her last appointment the assistant said my daughter needed to have some type of laser treatment to trim her gum back so a bracket could be adjusted. This procedure was going to cost me around $300. This sounded fishy to me, so I decided to have an orthodontist take a look at the work. When an orthodontist took a look at the braces, he informed me that the braces were not done properly and that they need to be removed because they are going to cause permanent jaw problems. Brackets are in the incorrect place. Risers, which he would never recommend using are causing huge problems with her jaw. He said that the braces did in fact straighten her front teeth, but in doing so have thrown the rest of her teeth out of alignment and caused an overbite. He had no idea why my daughter would need to have her gums trimmed with a laser and also had no idea why that would cost $300. The orthodontist said my daughter will need new braces and will likely have to have them for at least two more years. Basically staring over from scratch to correct the damage that W Dental Group has inflicted. To top it off, he told us that the braces were likely unnecessary from the beginning. That my daughters teeth could likely have been corrected with a retainer. My daughter is crushed. That will be over 5 years of having to wear braces. The orthodontist that looked at my daughter is retiring and will not be able to treat my daughter, so he has no interest in telling me this information to earn my business. So now I find myself in a situation that will likely cost me thousands of dollars to correct. I am not even sure what to do next. It seems to me that the dentist is at a minimum incompetent and quite possibly negligent in the case of my daughter. I will be seeking a full refund for the mess that they have made of my daughter's teeth. Do not go to this dentist for anything other than a simple cleaning. read more

I have to agree with much of what Scotty G. said. I too had been in search for a better dentist and thought I had found the perfect one. I stay on top of my dental work and go regularly for cleanings. Like Scotty, they took gum measurements and really pushed the laser treatment. I have been down this road once before (with another dentist) in one specific area and they just did an injection of antibiotic and did a deep cleaning. This cleared things up in the past. After some convincing, I agreed to the laser but only to the bottom gums. I knew up front that it was going to cost around $300 or more out of pocket. I drilled and drilled them about the cost, they even brought back the accounts lady to explain. They were doing the laser treatment on the bottom and so I had questions about cleaning the top teeth. I was told that they couldn't do it on the same day for insurance purposes and that I need to return for that to be covered. Fair enough... I return... BUT it wasn't covered by insurance and they did the whole mouth. I tried to explain this to the lady that handles the accounts but she made me think I was wrong because "they wouldn't have never done them on the same day in the first place" and that these were different services. I left confused and $140 poorer. It turns out that they forgot to give me the estimate for all the followup care I apparently needed. They schedule you for 3 weeks, 10 weeks, then once every 6 months after. I was never told about these extra visits. In addition, a traditional cleaning is not good enough and I need something more than what my insurance covers so even if I am using my insurance, it won't all be covered. On my most recent visit the accounts lady looked over my "treatment plan" and confirmed that this follow up care was never discussed with me. Had I known all the expense that was involved with this treatment, A. I would have never agreed to it and done it the old fashioned way and B. not had a cosmetic procedure (whitening) around the same time. Now, I did have a filling here that went well. But there were two other times I had less than quality service. The first time was with a Dr. that is no longer there. He needed to numb me and it wasn't working so he kept giving me more and more. While I am not a Dr. it seems he was just giving it in the wrong spot. While I usually take a little more time to numb up, this was nuts. By the time I left, I couldn't feel my throat when I swallowed and I felt so sick that I needed to go home and lay down. The second time was when I went in for the whitening. First off, I was told the wrong amount of time I needed to schedule for this. I have to admit I was a little late that morning (15 min) but they underestimated the amount of time by almost an hour. I had to get to work and ended up having to come back for the last round. The first time I was there, they left me alone in the room with no way to communicate with them. My suction had fallen to the floor and I was drooling like crazy. I was then instructed to NOT hold it by straw... yeah... I didn't... when it fell I grabbed at it and it popped off. When I came back for round two she did leave a bell which was very nice and should have been done the first time. HOWEVER she did burn the crap out of my gums with the whitening gel on the second time. She waited to put the cotton between my lip and gums until AFTER she put the whitening gel on. Well she brushed up against my teeth as she did this and got the gel all over the inside of my gums.. unfortunately once it touches your tissue, it's going to burn the crap out of you. I doubt I will ever do this procedure again. The only nice thing is that they do send you home with a kit to do touch ups with your own molds. I really wanted to like this place but they have lost my trust. They are very nice but I don't really have a whole lot of confidence in them either. After my most recent visit where it was going to be another $140 teeth cleaning I walked out. Again, I've had the gum procedure before at another dentist years ago and it was not this intense. They do offer these handy folders with an estimate of costs but in my case the aftercare was not mentioned. I gave them more than one second chance so I will not be back. If you do decide to use W dental, ask for an estimate and then double check BEFORE you have the procedure. I really thought I understood what I was getting into and I did not. This place is amazing from the moment you walk through the door. The receptionist is cute as a button and so kind. When you come to the back, they give you a tour and make you feel so welcomed. The ladies who run the back are OUTSTANDING. They are informative, gentle, and really take their time. They don't rush you through, like a number. Now, for the dentist. This dude is cool!!! He's kind and genuine. He takes his time explaining everything and gets to know you as an individual. Lastly, Ms. Maribel, she is so WONDERFUL! She is patient and took the time to explain all the insurance paperwork and different payment options they have available. I'm a disabled vet and she really took her time with me. She made me feel comfortable and she has such a calming presence. I'll be coming here for years to come. This place is a God sent. read more

It takes a while to find a good dentist and I visited two other dentists this year before finding W Dental Group. The third time's a charm! I had a fabulous experience here! I have been to a LOT of dentists in my life (constantly changing dental plans) and Dr. Watkins is definitely one of the best I've ever been to. I had been to another dentist the week before who just didn't want to talk to me at all. Dr. Watkins sat down with me, actually looked me in the eye, and told me about my condition in a way I could understand. He even illustrated it with pictures. He was so kind and informative. I really surprisingly comfortable with him (doctors terrify me, but he was just so nice that I kept forgetting to be terrified). He introduced me to the other dentist on staff there who is also extremely nice. He also sat down and talked about my teeth with me. His staff is great too. The hygienist I had was one of the gentlest I've dealt with. I was there for much longer than I expected, but it was a small price to pay to actually have all these people talk to me. I was rarely left alone the entire time I was there - I think I met every single one of the staff by the time I left and they were all extremely kind and professional. But just a heads up - they do charge $50 for missed appointments so don't forget! I will definitely be coming back here! EDIT: I notice all his reviews have been flagged. I bet it's because they started offering incentives to patients who would write good Yelp reviews (win a free TV or something). I did not participate in that incentive program. Dr. Watkins is still great, but he now has two dentists on his staff that I don't know much about. His practice is seriously growing, and they appear to be sinking a lot of money into PR. read more

Staff are very friendly. However! My first appointment took 2 hours for all of the information they wanted to get(xrays, gum check, questionnaire, pre-exam, exam, another questionnare, cleaning, pictures etc). I met so many staff the first visit that it was insane. For the exam before my cleaning, the dentist was checking my gums and said to another staff member, "Everything looks ok, for now." I already have high anxiety about oral care and I told them 5 times already I care most about my oral health. Then the assistant looked at me and said, "That's good! Everything looks fine then!" The dentist just said everything is ok at the moment. AT THE MOMENT! Ok thanks. I'll go home later and try not to worry from here on out. Then after an hour and 45 min, yes you heard correct! 2 hour appointment and 1 hour and 45 min later I got my cleaning. The dentist didn't speak to me whatsoever. I consider my pain tolerance to be unusually high, and I was clenching on to the chair with both hands for the entire 15min cleaning. She did the cleaning so fast that I was literally worried that she would stab me hard in my gums or mouth on accident. When I was done, I came out to the waiting room to find my husband(who had his first appt as well) already waiting for me. I thought he was all done but they only did all the preliminary stuff and had him come back out to the waiting room to wait for 45 min to see his dentist. I missed my last appt(by fault of my own. I hated my first experience so much, but still should have called to cancel)and was charged $100 fee. They waived the fee, but that's a big fee to start with, just saying. Our insurance at our last dentist was all covered every time. Same insurance, but for this visit we paid $120 each. I don't think insurance gets any better then ours, so heads up on that. And I'd go into the stalker/creepy/borderline harassing letters, emails, phone calls, voice mails that are never ending whether you decide to keep going there or you decide to find another dentist, but someone else covered that already. Find another dentist is my advice. Go there just once and you'll hear from them for life. FOR. LIFE. You have been warned. read more

I would not recommend office to anyone. I made an early appointment so that I won't be late for work. I had my dental appointment at 8:20am and at least five other patients showed up with appointments while I was still waiting. I was skipped over and they were taken back even though their appointments were after me as I confirmed with the receptionist. At 9:30am I was still waiting, when I asked the receptionist why is it that an 8:20 appointment is still waiting however your 845 and 9, and 9:15 have already checked in? Her answer was, "it looks like skipped over you." That's when I decided to walk out, as their service was so unprofessional and not organized at all!! read more

This place ROCKS. Not only was My family immediately greeted by this bubbly woman named Renee, but she offered us snacks! She gave us paperwork to fill out (on laminated forms with wet-erase markers to save paper), then a tour of the office with history and info about the doctors. After waiting about 10 minutes everyone in my family split ways to their own cleanings and X-rays. I was sat down in a dental chair and was handed a beautiful gift bag with goodies inside and an enveloped letter addressed to me (hand written). The dental assistant, Chris, made good conversation and made me feel like we had been friends for years! My cleaning/ check-up went well (Cheryl was awesome) & I was always asked if I needed anything or how I was doing. They are equipped with state of the art instruments and machines, each person makes sure you know exactly what they're doing at all times. You constantly feel a sense of security. Also they are a full-service place, meaning they can do braces, oral surgeries, and hygienic routine check ups all in one day at the same location. Overall I just want to emphasize on how much this dentistry cares about their patients! From handmade gift bags to SPURS TICKETS GIVEAWAYS, it feels nice to always made sure you are okay and receiving the best services possible. The detail that goes into this place is so above and beyond I cannot begin to describe how positive of an experience this was for me. When I left Active Duty Air Force, I had not clue what to look for in a dentist and picked the closest one to my house. Luck on my side because I have not regrets making my first appointment with W Dental Group. They have great customer service and always remembering who their customers are. When you walk in, you feel like you are part of the family and will immediately welcome you into their office. DON'T use W Dental Group on Grissom! My crown they created broke after less than two years and they refused to replace it unless I paid for the procedure again. I went to a different dentist and he informed me the crown was faulty. This was the THIRD crown on that tooth; the other two had cracked in the procedure room while being fitted, so I trust my dentist's opinion. W Dental Group's website states "The second phase of dental implants involves placing an artificial tooth over the root, where it will remain for many years" and I hardly consider two years' many'. If a business sells a faulty product it should take the responsibility to replace or refund it! I had to use my wedding/honeymoon savings to fix it. THANKS W Dental group read more

I would say that I had a better experience. First of all, the first visit was good when actual doctor took care of the fillings that had to be done and she did them within 1 day. My mouth was very sore and I could not eat anything after, it took about 3 hours to recover. After my first appointment I had a lot of phone calls to remind me to come back for the next appointment. I felt pressure and pushed. Even I told thee receptionist that I am going on vacation they would still call me again and again. The second, I came back and got extremely talkative med technician Asian Female who was cleaning and talking to me in this awkward position when you have to keep your mouth wide open and she would still talk and ask questions. I had the feeling like she had 5 red bulls before that day. Anyways, she told me that I have very INFECTED gums and made me feel totally miserable. Could she find better and more professional words to point the problem? I never ever was disappointed with my teeth and very happy with them in general. Unfortunately I have to check for the new clinic, but I am not planning to go back where I feel uncomfortable. What should I do? read more

Thought I'd found a great dentist. Boy was I wrong. The first time I went, they were very attentive and did a great job. I was very happy. Dr Tom would personally call to see how you were doing. Well, that personal touch may be good, but other practices leave something to be desired. That first time I went in, they measured my gum line. They recommended deep root scaling, something my new plan wouldn't cover yet. I told the hygienist to go ahead and go deep as deep as she could. I could take the pain. She was surprised how well I took it. They also tried to sell me a Sonicare toothbrush. They explained how good they are, but I declined, figuring I'd get a better deal online (which I did). The next time in, my numbers were much better and they told me to keep up the good work. No more mention of deep root scaling. When I got a bill for that visit, it confused me because I'm supposed to get 2 cleanings free each year. Well, it wasn't much so I just paid it. Some time later, I was having cold sensitivity issues on a tooth. I told the doc which tooth I thought it was, but he told me it was the one next to it and I needed a crown. Ok. We did the crown that day. That evening, about 2-3 hours after I got the crown, the tooth I had complained about, cracked and split, causing me to return for an emergency root canal. They explained, because of the split, they couldn't do a crown without first doing a crown lengthening procedure (oral surgery.) Now this is two crowns in a short period of time, plus surgery, exceeding my insurance coverage. Not cheap. I'm not convinced the surgery would've been necessary had he taken care of that tooth when I mentioned it. Anyway, I have it done. I get fitted for the crown and in on my way. Twice I'd had to get the crown shaved down because the bite was too high. This crown lengthening was not my first either. I'd had one done while I was still active duty Air Force and never had an issue with it. With this one, my water pick still gives me a jolt whenever the water hits the gum they worked on and it's a bad place fit food to get stuck while eating. Not happy at all. The next thing that bothered me was my last cleaning with them. Once again, they measured my gums and found two measurements that were bad. Explained I wasn't eating normally or brushing/flossing normally because of problems with that bad crown. Of course they said I needed deep root. (Expensive procedure recommended, ask because of 2 teeth) I told the hygienist to just go deep during my cleaning. She said she couldn't. I said another girl had and it's ok I can take it. She said she wouldn't do it, I needed deep root. I told her I wasn't going to pay that for 2 teeth. So she did my basic cleaning. To top it all off, when I went to leave, they told me I owed for the cleaning. What?!? I'm supposed to get 2 cleanings a year with no co-pay. They told me I didn't get a cleaning. I got a pro-fee (spelling?) procedure. They explained that a normal cleaning doesn't involve removing tartar and such. It's only polishing the teeth. What?!? Now, I've been going to the dentist, regularly, for almost 40 years. I think I know what a cleaning is. I told them, as I angrily (and vocally so) paid them, that I would not return because I felt I was being scammed. And guess what? They called me to see if I'd like to set up another "cleaning". I laughed and told her absolutely not. And to this day, that crown still isn't right. It'll probably have to be redone. At my expense, of course. read more

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this dental office. The staff is the sweetest, most genuine, professional, but personable staff, ever. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by a warm and friendly reception staff that take the time to get up and shake your hand. The facilities are state of the art with some pretty awesome amenities. My kids and I felt instantly at home. Since Dr. W is also an orthadontist, my son was able to get a consultation at the same appointment as his regular cleaning and exam. Since we opted to put him in braces, they were able to also get him started in the same appointment. This really helped me by not having to take multiple days off from work. In my opinion, this office is a perfect, "one stop shop", convenient for everyone. Also, since my birthday was the next day, on my way out they presented me with a birthday card, signed by the staff, that also had a nice little treat inside. I am so happy my family has found their new dentist. We will be coming back for years and years. Whatever you do, don't let another minute go by without making an appointment to see Dr. W and his awesome staff. You will not regret it! read more
