We had a leak through our deck in February of 2025, and reached out to CBCI, also known as Crank…read moreBrothers, through a recommendation. They were general contractors who had done a lot of deck work. Our project started in May 2025.
As the project started, Jonathan Reeves, our contractor and point of contact was extremely responsive and helpful. While we were in the middle of our deck work, he had also suggested to us that we should get our roof redone, something we knew we would do eventually, so we agreed. He assured us that his team was very knowledgeable in roof work as well. Unfortunately for us, while these two projects were happening, we also needed to redo our balcony because of a leak. So that is a total of 3 projects given to Jonathan and his team.
The road to get there was unprofessional to say the least. When the roof was "completed" for the FIRST time, we noticed something just didn't look right so we hired an independent roofing consultant to come and review. Turns out the pattern was done completely wrong. When we brought it up to Jonathan's team, they told us that while it was technically the wrong way to apply the roof, it still was fine. Based on that response, we arranged to have the manufacturer come out and inspect their work. At the end of that inspection, the manufacturer concluded that the installation was incorrect and they recommended a complete removal and replacement of the roof.
In order to try and deflect blame away from the clear errors in installation, Jonathan attempted to suggest that they would replace the roof due to defects in the actual shingles and not the clear deviation from industry standard installation (This was refuted by the manufacturer CertainTeed which noted no issues with the quality of the product). But just that excuse begs the question of why did they even install the material if they thought it was defective at the start? Furthermore, the actual installer for CBCI who put on the shingles admitted that he had made the installation errors after he watched the wrong instructional YouTube video.
Based on the conclusion of those meetings, CBCI agreed to redo the roof for us. With that said, our trust was already burned a bit. While we tried to utilize a different qualified roofing company to do the replacement, CBCI assured us that they wanted to make it right and therefore we gave them the chance to complete the job as promised. The second time around, in addition to the shingles, they also were tasked with replacing metal flashing and skylights (as this was deemed a critical component by the manufacturer to replace the roof correctly). After they were "done" we had another inspection. The reports this time were the same. The installation was faulty at every turn. During this second installation, a third leak even happened in our bedroom because of their failure to tarp their unfinished work.
At this point, we offered to pull the roofing project, just give us back the money so we can take it to someone else. They could still work on the deck, no hard feelings. They refused and even began to actively hold the deck work from completion until we paid them more (Even though we had already paid for all of the other projects in full and we were only withholding 50% of the roofing contract until the project was completed in accordance with industry standards). While all this was happening, the deck that we had been paying for was ALSO NOT done correctly. We had paid extra for a custom pattern and finish which they were consistently unable to obtain.
The middle and end of this project basically felt like we only saw Jonathan when he wanted his payment. As a general contractor on this project, he was never on site to check any work done by his team. Every time he showed up to handle a problem, it felt like we took one step forward and 5 steps back. He began acting very hostile and started ignoring our calls and emails and only responded when we escalated things. The last few days before the deck was done, he actively told his team to NOT come. And when we explicitly told him to stop working on our roof (until we received the inspection by an independent roofing consultant), he ignored our request and sent his team over to do more unapproved tasks in order to try and rack up a bill.
Jonathan Reeves is an unprofessional sales person and I would not trust him with any project. We are now having to hire a brand-new company to redo our roof, and all flashing. He and his team clearly took on a project they could not handle. This company made our lives miserable for almost all of 2025. They made promises that they fail to deliver and consistently provided work that falls below industry standard.
I would never recommend them for any project unless you're looking for a constant headache.
