It was our first visit to Eastport. As we walked the town we asked the locals where the best place was for lunch. WaCo received the most votes. We went over early to check out the menu. The hostess, Michelle, was extremely helpful. She even treated our dog to water and a snack. The menu was very good, but we wanted to check out the other eateries in the area. After looking into several other choices, we went back to WaCo mainly because Michelle was so nice to us. We were not disappointed. The food and local beer were excellent. The view from the deck was amazing. Our server, Abi, could not have been nicer or more attentive. The price was very reasonable. We were very happy with out choice and plane to return on our next visit to Eastport. BTW: If you read Sarah Graves novels, she accurately describes this diner in her books. The Waco dinner is for breakfasts and they have attached a restaurant called The Schooner Room, that has a well rounded menu with available cocktails and an excellent deck view of the Bay. And whales. Right as you eat you might get lucky and see one surfacing 100 yards off shore. We enjoyed a nice lunch of Cobb salad and burgers. Price is right too. Great service. read more

We ate here 2x's while visiting Eastport. The first time we sat inside due to rain. Very cozy with beautiful view over water. The second time we sat outside under umbrella in very comfortable chairs again overlooking the water. The food was some of the best we have had. The haddock Reuben with cabbage was so good we had it both times. The corn shrimp chowder was also wonderful. The hostess & our waitress were so friendly and very helpful in our decisions. The host/owner wasn't willing seat us at a 6 person table that was available outside. The kitchen was closing so they were only serving drinks. We had a party of 6. He asked how many were drinking and we said 3. He wasn't willing to seat us if all of us weren't drinking alcohol. Table was still available 30 minutes later (we sat on the rocks nearby over the harbor) and eventually went to a party of 3 who didn't have drinks...of course! Beware! read more

WaCo stakes its claim as Maine's oldest diner--three years older than Moody's--and it's 100 years old this year! And in the tiny border town of Eastport, it's important that there's a standby like this that's open every day. Mostly this is 7am to 2pm, but there are also a few days where there's a 4pm to 7pm dinner shift, too. I had breakfast, and really appreciated how in addition to the combo plates and specials, you have the option to mix and match items to your liking. That's how I cobbled together my bacon + corned beef hash + pancake deal, which was just the perfect amount. Loved the pancake in particular, which was somehow both fluffy and also delicate. Yum! And you can get fancier coffees too, so I was able to get a cappuccino. And you can't beat the view: it was foggy the morning I was there but I could still look right out at the harbor (on a nice day there's a deck where you can sit as well). Very nice staff as well, and service was super quick! While I didn't make it back for lunch or dinner this time, I'll look forward to that next time I'm up that way. read more

Overpriced and not tasty. I'd recommend the lobster roll shack on the pier for a more reasonable experience. Small bowl of chowder has no flavor and market price was around $20, lobster roll around 30-35 dollars each, very expensive and doesn't taste any different. Bangor city has way better tasting lobster restaurants than this restaurant. Service is rushed and not too friendly. We had to flag down the waitress every time to get attention. read more

This is a go-to place on my visits to Eastport. We enjoy breakfast and dinner at the diner multiple times during our stay. The breakfast menu is all you need with enough variety for anyone. The dinner menu varies and is of the highest quality. I have had lobster rolls, lobster dinner, Taco Tuesday dinner, seafood casserole and many other dishes. I am never disappointed. On top of that, Matt and the staff are wonderful. They accommodate our needs and persevere under all circumstances, including an power outage of the entire island, where they continued to serve drinks and dinners with positive attitude, quick smile and joke. We stopped in for breakfast at the WaCo (Washington County) Diner on a beautiful fall morning. We sat outside on the deck where we had gorgeous views of the water, sky and Campobello Island. We stopped here while exploring lighthouses. This is my favorite place I ate in Maine! I tried the Seafood Chowder and it was INSANELY delicious. It had HUGE scallops and big chunks of lobster. Everyone at the table devoured this and we even ordered more to go. The flavor was perfection, no "fishy" flavor and nothing that over powered the flavors of the individual ingredients. Blueberry pie was nothing special. I am on the hunt for a place that makes blueberry pie that tastes like blueberries and not like pure sugar. If pure sugar is what you are looking for then this is the pie for you! My dad had the haddock Rueben and talked about it the rest of the week. He ordered the same thing at, at least one other restaurant, but Waco had his favorite one. The views can not be beat! The service was only ok. I often felt like maybe they were big fans of tourists. We dined here twice, first for dinner and the next morning for breakfast. The server was expedient in seeing that we sit inside for dinner or we'd have gone elsewhere. Husband's margarita was odd-tasted of pineapple and not much tequila. Tex-mex meal was good tho not memorable. Husband had eggs/bacon/toast 4 breaky and u the blueberry fr.toast. Again, non memorable but good. 'Service' wherein the waitress were concerned was erratic w/ some missed etiquette/opportunities, particularly at breakfast. The outside diner claims to be the oldest diner in Maine. The WaCo Diner has a great location and deck where you can dine outside with great views of Eastport. The server recommended the Haddock Rueben for something different and it came together pretty well with the properly fried fish. The fries were warm and crisp. The service was friendly and attentive and the server treated me well. While this is not fine dining, it is a decent diner. My tip: try to get a seat on the deck. read more

The three of us enjoyed our dinner here on our overnight in Eastport. One of the best things about it is the outside deck which has beautiful views and is the perfect spot for drinks and dining. We ate risotto cakes, lobster roll, parmesan crusted haddock, and margarita chicken. Everything was tasty. Our server was ok - she was attentive but seemed down/blah and she had no recommendations to give regarding the food or the wine. Extremely bad attitude from the waitress known as Sandra. She thinks she knows it all because of '20 years as a waitress' when in fact she clearly knows nothing about the food and drinks she sells. She is very hostile and especially hates people from away. She will bring you the wrong thing and then argue with customers in front of everyone, she then gets extremely aggressive. Pity that several bad reviews are due to her and yet the owner appears not to care. All of the other reviews regarding bad service are spot-on. Haddock cooked to perfection and the fries were wonderful, the Cole slaw followed suit right down to the lemonade not sickly sweet as in other establishments .
