Oh wow! This is it. Stop here. Eat whatever you like. It's amazing! If you come by in the summer, ask for Suzanne to be your server. She's amazing! Fantastic chowder!! Best lobster roll I've had in Maine and best blueberry pie I've had in Maine. Amazing! They rebuilt 10 years ago after the fire and the place is gorgeous! Come and enjoy Helen's. It's divine!

    Hair found in pie.

My dinner was nice, and the service was amazing. Absolutely no complaints on that end. I got a slice of raspberry pie to go after finishing my meal and there was a long hair in it. I won't lie, for a $7 slice of pie, that really put me off. The pie was good before I found the hair, but I threw it out afterwards. Not worth the headache.

Strawberry pie and delicious home made whip cream!

PIE! Get the pie! We got strawberry and chocolate silk pie and OMG..... So. Frikkin. Good. Period! We got the mozzarella sticks, "petit" size Mac and cheese. Seriously sharp cheese but so good! We also got the chicken Alfredo, meatloaf sandwich.... With the unreal marinara sauce and the chicken tenders. The service was great and we got sat in a booth with a perfect view of the water! Such a cute place and super delicious!!!

We stopped here for lunch twice on our way to and from our weekend in Bar Harbor. Wonderful staff that provided excellent service. The Chili Lime Shrimp were fabulous! The restaurant was very busy both times we stopped in and our food was delivered quickly and correctly and everything was delicious. Great Pie Selection too!

Stopped in at Helen's when making a trip Downeast. No more breakfast and limited hours for takeout and open only 4 days a week. Food is still quite good. Fish chowder was full of fish but could have had a bit more seasoning. Excellent scallops and clam bellies. If you don't stop for anything else, stop for the pie.

I will tell you this if you order something off the menu for breakfast your portions are so big that it may take two or three people to eat one serving so be prepared to take some home with you as my portion of pancakes and omelette would serve an army . I was talking to one of the locals, and they stated that the owner of this restaurant served large portions because he felt it was his way of giving back to the community and not always worried about budgets and money. The only drawback about eating breakfast here is you can still smell some of the odors from the partying the night before as it had a dance club/nightclub atmosphere on a Friday night. So, if you are looking for a breakfast and you wanna go somewhere different than Helen's across the street, check this place out you won't be disappointed by the variety of their menu for breakfast and the quality of the food that comes out.

We heard some good things so we made a reservation for an early supper. Decor is modern farmhouse. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly with menus. We were one of two tables in the room, the other seated a couple of minutes before us on the opposite side of the space. For the next 10 minutes a waitress went back and forth to this other table bringing drinks and taking orders. Another staffer was clearing tables near us and resetting them. Puzzled, one us went to the hosting station and a minute or so later a waitress appeared at the table explaining that someone did not check us in and that's why she did not come to our table. An apology (for the restaurant and/or herself) would have been appropriate but was not forthcoming. The food here runs from good to ok, but occasionally bad due to execution. We arrived hungry and ordered several appetizers. The winner of this course was the lobster bisque which flavorful and full of lobster pieces. The hot crab dip was cheesy and tasty but was served with bland commercial and perhaps stale tortilla chips;some nice toasts points might have been a better option. Our third diner ordered the shrimp cocktail hoping for a taste of the local Gulf of Maine shrimp, but that was not the case. For entrees, the most pleasing was the fish and chips, a generous piece of flaky, nicely fried haddock served with fries and Cole slaw. The smash burger was a double patty with all the trimmings but it lack seasoning and the usual crispness that is associated with the smash of the cold patty against the hot metal of the grill. The smoked salmon BLT was a fail. The bacon was cut to bits, the avocado schmear barely covered half the bun, the lettuce was part of the heart that was curly and made the sandwich fall apart and there was no tomato on the sandwich. For dessert , we shared the blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream. While the blueberries were tasty as was the ice cream, there was no crisp here on the top except for a bit of oats that appeared to be added before the ice cream without being baked on. Generally, I can overlook some fails like the ones reported but there is no excuse for dirty dishes and unsafe conditions. Drinking water comes in a carafe that you serve yourself by pouring into short blue tinted tumblers. I poured for our table and two of the glasses were not used by us as there were lip prints of lipstick on them. We took two glasses from an adjacent table that was just set and again, one of them was also marked with a lipstick lip mark. Lastly, I asked for a table with a view, if possible. We were seated in a corner with a view of the trees for one of us and a view of the water. I noticed a door with an exit sign near us. It's a door you would not be able to exit as it was a clear 15ft drop to the ground. A wooden 2x4 was affixed to the frame across the door handle so you could not use it. But in case of fire, there was no way to safely escape through this door to no where. I might return under the right circumstances for the bisque and the fish, but I would walk out if I encountered the same safety issues again.

Service was rushed, with no regard to manners or good customer service skills. Employees had bad attitudes. The space looked disgusting like it hadn't been cleaned in a hot minute. But that's what they get when they don't pay employees on time, payroll bounces, orders for product don't get paid for and therefore don't get delivered on the truck because the owners have poor business decorum and have no idea how to run a business properly. They take hours away from great employees and give them to ones with poor work ethic, piss poor attitudes and lack of real, or even remotely good, customer service skills, fire employees for their right to free speech and or because of their opinion on certain things. Literally force employees to quit because they try to force managers to slash employees hours, moreso than the hours are already cut for them. The result of all this is a poorly run retaurant that's lost all respectability because of their poor business skills. My advice DONT EAT AT THE MACHIAS SUBWAY!
