Jacksonville is well known for its family-owned Mediterranean and Middle Eastern style eateries and Wafaa N Mike's is at the tippy top. How do I know this? They are the ONLY Jacksonville restaurant to make it onto Yelp's Top 100 in 2025! This Springfield staple has been feeding me for about a decade and I just can't get enough. From the fattoush salad and tabbouleh to the famous purple hummus and beef or chicken shawarma, I will NEVER turn down a meal deliciously prepared by Chef Hussein. You cannot go wrong with any item on the menu on a regular day or whatever they have on special on the weekends. And those weekend specials are FIRE. Chef bounces between a few favorites like the Lamb or Falafel Burgers, Italian Fridays, tacos (think mango-habanero chicken shawarma, falafel, or a brussel sprouts taco!), or (my FAVE) his Tikka Masala, which you can ALWAYS add some spice to. On top of that, he always has a different signature hummus to accompany your meal. The Tikka Masala special usually has Tikka Masala spiced hummus. Other days, it might be a mushroom hummus, avocado chili lime, or cilantro jalapeno. The combinations are endlessly delicious. Chef and his team make every visit a great time. Please note that you will need to walk up to pay at the register when you are ready to go. Parking can be pretty limited on Main Street sometimes, and if you're worried about the traffic, just park on 6th Street and walk over. A little known secret is that Wafaa's does take catering orders and can put together a wonderful spread for any event. Last, but certainly not least, don't forget to top off your meal with a slice of baklava.

Chicken Shawarma

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean and inviting with seat yourself seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You know you are in a great place because you are hit with the smell of spices from amazing home cooking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything came out pretty quick since we were there during the lunch rush. Like this was the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. When I am in jacksonville again this place will be visited again. Serving sizes are perfect for having left overs which I will gladly smash tomorrow for lunch. Sorry for the hummus picture we were starving.

We ordered the Gyro fries to start. They were good but we felt like they needed more tomato and onion. Also ordered the Wafaa Shawarma which was very good. It came with rolled grape leaves. We were disappointed that they were cold and not warm. Definitely will go back to try more items off the menu!

Chicken kabob wrap lunch

A very nice and affordable spot in Springfield for Middle Eastern food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]WMC is very casual and the prices are very reasonable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had the chicken kabob combo lunch, which was great value. The chicken was hot off the grill and nicely seasoned. It was wrapped with a nicely balanced mix of lettuce, rupe tomatoes, and just the eofht amount on red onion. I opted for a side of hummus, which was fresh and tasty, topped with quality olive oil and zaatar. My only complaint is that the pita served with the hummus was room temp and was clearly commercially produced.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Super casual setting--great for a laid-back lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the classic Wafaa Shawarma, and the flavors did not disappoint. Everything is made fresh, which we appreciated, but just a heads-up: our food took about 45 minutes to come out. Worth the wait if you're not in a rush!

Beef shawarma (one on a bed of rice, the other with grape leaves and hummus and pita); appetizer: falafel (5 count)

I had read an article that this was ranked on Yelp's top 100 US restaurants, so NATURALLY I HAD to go!! Parking was a little tricky but we ended up parking in the lot between the restaurant and the Chinese restaurant and just hoped for the best LOL. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but the service and atmosphere was great![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went at a weird time (3pm-4pmish) so it wasn't bustling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Boyfriend and I both wanted to get the beef shawarma platters with hummus and falafel, but they said the only app you couldn't get with the platter was the falafel so we were both sad :( so we ended up ordering it as a separate appetizer because we both like falafel so much hahahaha. The price was kind of steep ($45 for 2 entrees + one appetizer), but it was really good!! And it took a decent amount of time for the food to come out which made us feel like everything was cooked fresh and made to order. The meat was really flavorful, and the sides were all good too!! Definitely enough for 2 meals each, so that was a plus! Glad we tried it!!

Falafel heart

He makes falafel hearts! Love that for me! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chill atmosphere, besides my extraness and top tier service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I may be a little partial. Great food. Great people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Gotta try the coffee. It's all there! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the smell![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My wife and I are a bit of hummus and Middle East cuisine fans. Wafaa N Mike Cafe definitely stacks up well against others. I came in with some friends before going to watch some March Madness. The Wafaa Shawarma platter was super tasty. The rice was spot on, the chicken was well-cooked, and the veggies mixed in were season great. The hummus my wife ordered was clearly made in house and probably one of the better ones I have tasted in Jacksonville. This place is a hidden gem.

Combination for two

Best Mediterranean restaurant in Jax!!! My husband and I ordered the Combination for two. You could tell everything from the pita to the grape leaves were house made and nothing disappointed.

I was to leave Jacksonville, I would remember this place for the rest of my life! This is the kind o mom and pops spot that you talk and brag about and tell your grand kids about! My fiancé and I have gone here two times in one week and we keep dreaming about it! The falafel melts in your mouth and is full of flavor! Best I've ever had from around the country! The Lamb Gyro is soft and tender but still has some crispy edges and doesn't lack on taste, unlike other places where it gets dry and you need a pound of sauce on top! It's phenomenal, high quality, tasty meat! Again, some of the best I've ever had! The chicken is marinated so well, all the chicken dishes are unique and flavor full! The rice is soft, aromatic, and mouth watering even by itself! I can go on and on, but just go and try it! Get their specials!

The goal is to try every item on their menu. It's Mediterranean (Turkish) cuisine folks, which I call "guilt free, healthy eats". What to try you may ask. If you are striving for that "Olive Garden Salad + Bread combo"... let me suggest Kofta's version which is the Coban Salad and Puffy Bread. They're not offered as an all you can eat combo, but it should keep you filled between the two. - Coban Salad (5/5): A must try, soooo delicious. Fresh ingredients. The dressing, I could drink them in shot glasses. - Puffy Bread (5/5): It's made to order. Comes out nice and hot and puffy. Plenty to share with others. - From the Grill menu. Kofta Plate, Chicken Shish, Adana Plate are all good choices (5/5) - Sandwiches/Wraps: Their Doner Wrap was just okay to me (4/5) Service (5/5): no complaints here Pricing (5/5): Best value when you eat during Lunch. But Dinner items are not too pricey. Lastly, Buffets are also offered...on Sundays I believe. I haven't tried it yet but it definitely gives me a great reason to come back to Kofta.

Inside, the waitress (who I believe is the wife of the owner of the restaurant?) kindly greeted us and seated us immediately. The menu was extensive, plus they sometimes have off menu specials like fish. We ordered the adana lamb and adana chicken, as well as the mixed appetizer plate and calamari. It was way too much food for two of us, but it was all delicious. The meat was a little bit salty, but it was balanced out by the rice and other vegetables on the plate. The mixed appetizers were delicious. I don't think I would order the calamari again. Overall, great Turkish cuisine, owned by Turkish couple who moved to the United States a few years ago.

This hidden gem offers an intimate indoor dining room along with a charming outdoor patio. I highly recommend making a reservation, as seating is limited. Othello is a tapas-style restaurant, and we loved ordering a variety of dishes to share around the table. It was the perfect way to experience different flavors, and every dish we tried was beautifully prepared, fresh, and packed with flavor. Even the less adventurous eaters in our group left impressed. Some of our favorites included the whipped feta (don't skip the bread for dipping!), the roasted half chicken, and the butterflied branzino, which was perfectly cooked with a delicious char and bright, fresh flavors. Every plate that came to the table looked as incredible as it tasted. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions about the menu. One thing to know before you go: the chef has a very specific vision for each dish and generally does not allow substitutions or modifications. For example, one person in our group wanted the aioli removed from the tuna, but the dish was only served as designed. It's something to keep in mind if you have picky eaters or dietary preferences. We were so full after sharing so many plates that we had to pass on dessert, but that's just another reason to come back. Othello delivers a memorable dining experience with creative flavors, excellent service, and a fun, shareable menu. We'll definitely be returning.

I came in as a solo diner and was seated quickly, although my table was kind of nestled underneath the high outdoor bar. That meant hearing some of the bartender's phone conversations. I ordered a glass of Lebanese rose wine and liked it! But my meal wasn't impressive. The vegetarian grape leaves (one of my favorite dishes, generally) were OK, although several were split up on my plate (but hey, it happens). I thought the flavor was underwhelming; there was a lot of acidity but nothing else. I also ordered a side of "extra crispy seasoned potato fries" which just turned out to be generic crinkle fries with salt. Definitely wouldn't order those again. I thought maybe there would be some sort of twist on them? The big frustration was service. The restaurant was far from full when I went -- I counted maybe a dozen seated tables. After I finished eating, I spent more than 30 minutes trying to get my waiter's attention to get my check even as I sat with my plates pushed away, glasses empty, and credit card out. He walked by multiple times to wait on and check with other tables, and I saw at least five other employees working in the front of house and walking by me. Even when I got his attention for the check, it took quite a few minutes to get it, despite him walking out to other tables. (Although I will note he seemed busier than the other employees!) My check before tip came to $24, which felt on the pricey side for what I got. I hope I'm wrong, but I got the vibe that I wasn't exactly their favorite type of guest -- a solo diner who wasn't smoking hookah. (I noticed another solo non-smoker go similarly unnoticed by staff.) Maybe they heavily favor regulars, too. But they weren't at capacity, and I'd have gotten out quicker had I been able to pay. Maybe it was just an off night. But it's just not a great feeling to be ignored.

After a short wait, my food was delivered, and I noticed a small container of red sauce included with the meal. I wasn't sure what it was at first, so I tried it with my fries. I originally thought it was curry, but it had more of a thin, runny consistency with a spicy kick. It worked okay with the fries, but I chose not to put it on the gyro. Unfortunately, the fries were the biggest disappointment. They were extremely salty and mostly made up of the small broken pieces you usually find at the bottom of the bag. The gyro itself was good, especially after adding some white sauce my friend received with her order. We ordered the exact same meal, so I was surprised that she received three sauces while I only received one. Overall, my first experience with 904 Saffron was lacking.
