My family and I have visited this location several times in the past four to five years and it's never ever ever been an issue. The food always comes out quickly and fresh, customer service is always a priority here, and the facility itself is clean. The most popular thing about this location besides the awesome customer service is their waffles, and my family loves their waffles! Check out the following pictures and descriptions!

The sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits were absolutely outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and everything a Southern breakfast should be. The cheese omelette was equally delicious, cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. What really sets this place apart is the friendly, attentive service. Everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The combination of great food, generous portions, and genuine hospitality makes this a must-stop destination. Whether you're a local or traveling to catch the ferry, Vera's Diner is well worth the visit. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area! I'd give it 5 stars without hesitation.

Our 1/2&1/2 tea was served with plenty of ice, but perhaps was brewed too strong? And I say that as someone who likes strong brew...a little of a bitter aftertaste, perhaps. We ordered the hamburger steak, no gravy or onions. While it seemed to be a genuine patted by hand rendition, and was pretty well cooked to order, it lacked flavor. A bit of light seasoning before cooking would have done the trick. It took a hot minute to get our food. Many orders came out for folks who had arrived after us, and while not a huge aspect of this review, it matters even more given the rest of our meal. The green beans tasted canned, as did the potatoes. The cornbread was neither hot nor flavorful, and the butter was hard as a brick, and this, un-spreadable. We didn't stay for dessert. The locals filed in and I saw a mix of burgers, sandwiches and lunch specials being served. I think it is a convenient gathering place, especially for the aging. I wish a focus on fast, friendly service with excellent food had been evident so I could have given a delightful review. Sadly, I think this little mom and pop eatery has seen its best days. You don't go to Vera's for the ambiance, as it isn't fancy and hasn't been updated in...well...forever. You go there for the hospitality and good food...something akin to home cooking. And based on our experience, even that is questionable. Highly unlikely we will be back. It was a rather expensive experiment for a little diner in a small town that's coasting on past glory. It's like Vera's had given up, but no one has acknowledged it yet. I've read they're under newish ownership, and I really hope they can set their sights on audacious improvement...and that they get serious, stop going through the motions, and make it better than ever.

Then, I moved inside to see what the delay was, and the host tried to seat me at the counter. Really? I'd been waiting 30 minutes, and you won't seat me at the empty table. So I declined and said I'd wait for my table. I never got a notice on my phone either, so what was the point of that system if you need to be inside the small waiting area to be called? I could see the open table, but I was not seated for another ten minutes. They didn't want me at the big table. Then it was interesting to watch all the staff walk by and ask who had my table. How do they not know which tables each person has? Someone eventually came by, asked if I'd been helped, and took my drink and food orders, since I'd been waiting quite a while. I ordered a half-and-half tea. I'm not sure she knew what that was, as she kept saying "unsweet". The first tea was half-and-half, but the refill was unsweetened. I went with the chicken pot pie, as that is what caught my eye. I expected a delicious dish, but what I received was disappointing. The ratio of the chicken, gravy and veggies was way off. I'd say there was enough low-quality processed chicken for three to four people, a little gravy and even less veggies. I had a bowl of processed chicken cubes with a splash of sauce, not what I had in mind. I usually skip the pastry part, but I ate that as I needed something other than chicken. I left some of the chicken in the dish. The waitress didn't even offer me a to-go box. It was that bad that I wouldn't eat it anyway. My check was brought out soon after I got my food. I don't understand the rush, but bringing the check early won't get me out any faster and lowers your tip. This was just a really bad experience, and I don't see myself returning. I have liked the food in the past.

I got two pieces of French toast, bacon, a cheese biscuit, a pancake, a side of cheese grits and hashbrowns for less than $20 before tax. The French toast was good and favorable. The pancake was a nice size and good. Needed a bit of butter and syrup but that's to be expected. The cheese biscuit was the best cheese biscuit I ever had. It was soft, tasty and buttery. The grits were a bit plain but with some extra salt and butter were very good. They have two types of hashbrowns. One is soft and made with onions (homestyle) and the other is plain potatoes cut up and fried. Homestyle is the default, but the servers were very nice and allowed me to switch to the fried kind for no charge. The fried ones were perfect a little salt and ketchup and they were awesome. My mother and grandmother were with me. My mom got the bacon I ordered and some sausage. She said the bacon was a bit salty, but said the sausage was good. My grandmother got the eggs scrambled with cheese and said they were great. They also left the homestyle potatoes on the table and my grandmother sampled them several times and said they were good. Overall a solid dining experience. A lot of families were in there, but it wasn't too loud. Plenty of restaurant space. The waitresses are older, but get the job done. They were friendly and got the food out to us fresh and quickly. I did not get to try their lunch as they do lunch starting at 10:45am. Breakfast until 10:30am. A really good place to go when you want a quick, affordable breakfast.

I asked our very helpful and sweet server Jersey if she had only 2 choices with one being chicken fried chicken or the daily special Taco Salad, which would she go with and she said the taco salad. So, that's what I ordered. It was very tasty, loaded with 2 types of cheese a side of Jalapeño (which I gave to hubby) alot of fresh tomatoes and lettuce, a side of salsa and sour cream served in a somewhat crispy tortilla shell. And the shell is the only reason for a 4 star vs 5, the shell wasn't as light and crispy as I like it. It tasted as if they fried it several hours ago and honestly, I get why they did it that way as it saves time but the shell just left me disappointed. Hubby ordered a patty melt with fries. We came into town to scope out the Jacksonville Landing for future bass fishing mornings and when I told him we were stopping in here for lunch he already knew he was having the melt. I mean, he thought about it for 90 minutes lol. I've had their melts before and it is yummy. I think though the fries were the star on his plate. They were crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside and topped with something akin to Old Bay Seasoning. And they were HOT! Y'all, i mean, they're only fries but rhey were PERFECT! I am seriously alreasy looking forward to our 1st fishing adventure just so we can have lunch at the Kettle once we've caught all the bass. Jersey was quite attentive, but not hovering and warm friendly like only you'll find in the south. Oh, bestie told me to get the chocolate torte because she said, literally, "it's life altering." However, I forgot to so, just another thing for me to enjoy after our initial fishing trip. In some ways, you can go home again.

The flounder was great as you can see in the picture I took. Customer Service: I called them on the phone to see what specials they have for a Friday night. She mentioned several but I what got my attention was the fish special which was the flounder plate for about $9.95. So, that got me down here. I walk in and was immediately greeted and waited on by the waitress. She was the only waitress in the restaurant. She took my drink order which was a sweet tea and brought it to me while I give the menu a thorough look through. When she brought my sweet tea, she took my fish order. My fish plate was brought to me within 5 to 7 minutes. Great by all standards. However, all of a sudden a whole bunch of people started coming in. So much, she ran out of sweet tea in tea maker. I was out of sweet tea at this point. I felt sorry for her. It looked like she was trying to wait on 8 to 10 tables by herself. She told me she would bring me my sweet tea as soon as she can. Meanwhile, I was thirsty so- I took matters in my own hands and got myself some water while she was busy. It was a 5 star visit until she let me eat my meal without a drink. She should have just brought me some water until the sweet tea was made. Nice country people here that I could see. Several people looked at me. As if though they were wondering " who am I ". Features: I noticed a TV up front. They several tables and booths in here. Numerous Ceiling fans cover the ceiling. There are a few other things that cover the wall. I saw a couple rolling pins for dough making. Unusual to see these on a restaurant wall. It's probably the first for me in as many restaurants that I have been in.
