Love supporting local small businesses! Love seeing how busy this place was. I've always seen this place but have never stopped into try it until today! Just be aware Yelp has not updated the business new location. I followed the Yelp address and it took me to the business old location which was north of the new location. The service was great! Seems to be family owned/serviced. The restaurant was very cleaned. The menu had lots of options, but the only meat options for the breakfast is just bacon and sausage, no turkey or vegetarian option. Their coffee was different than your ordinary coffee! Was very smooth and aromatic. There were 5 gals in our group and everything we ordered was great! Will definitely be returning!

I'm quite conflicted on how to rate this review. On the one hand, the food was great and service was acceptable. On the other hand, I feel like I got duped. Let me explain. Our party of 4 got kids pancakes, french toast delight, cookie butter crepe, and huevos rancheros. All were very good. Cookie butter crepes are out of this world good. I got the huevos rancheros and it came with fresh, warm, house made tortillas. The bad. Prices on the menu were $5.99, $10.99, $10.99 and $9.99 respectively. When I went to check out, the bill seemed higher than expected ($45.82 when I was expecting high 30s). I asked to see a breakdown and noticed the prices charged were higher. I opted not to fight or question it there, but I should have. As an example, the french toast delight was supposed to be $10.99 as shown on the menu, but I was charged $13.51 (before tax). See receipt photo attached. All items were ordered were priced higher! Additionally, I was charged a $1.25 "checkout fee". What the heck is a checkout fee?! When we finished our meal I was excited to bring friends and family back to try it out, but now I feel slighted. The least they could do is note on the menu that prices have changed and to ask a server for current prices or something. Annoyed.

First, I have to rave about the vibe in this place. Soooo warm and inviting. The employees are kind and they speak Spanish, which is great as well! I ordered 6 pupusas- pork and revueltas, some tamales de elote (corn tamales), platanos fritos dish, and a kids waffle meal to go. We went on a bit late, it was 7pm on a Friday night, they close at 8. Our order took a speedy 20 mins. I think you can also call in your order for pick up. When we left, the bags felt light, I know this sounds like an odd thing to say, but being an avid pupusa eater and Salvadoran, this stood out ime immediately. I know I'm not trippin when I say that because even my mom made the comment when I was simply thinking it! The curtido (coleslaw) is my favorite thing, and I would rate this one at a 5/10. It was good, but something a bit off about it. I'm guessing they don't pummel you with loads of it to take home because maybe most customers aren't into it?, I dunno but every time I get pupusas there is a hefty amt of curtido because cmon, whats a pupusa without its curtido. The red sauce though, PERFECTION. the pupusas themselves were ok. The masa didn't have the authentic taste, and there wasn't enough cheese, this was my family's consensus. They were edible, but nothing to write home about, ya know. They cost $3.75 each, they had gourmet ones as well I think those were $4.75, I would like to try a loroco I don't see why they are gourmet, but I will try it next time! Next is the plantains, I'm a sucker for plantains. They came w refried pinto beans and some type of sour cream- didn't taste quite Salvadoran, it was white and not yellow like Salvadoran so I'm not too sure. It was tasty nonetheless. It seems like the meal comes w ONE plantain bc there were about 4-5 slices, they were delicious. Moving on to the tamales de elote, I give them a solid 4/10 for effort. A bit dry, the masa fell apart, SALTY, and def not enough corn in it. I even ate the tamal w sour cream bc it was so salty. The size of it was great though! Last but certainly not least, the waffles. Perfect. They were tasty, fluffy, and portion size on point! I do want to mention that I wanted to try the atole de elote. It's a cold February night in Utah, this hot drink would go so well with the season we are in. They didn't have any. I asked if it's bc I came in too late, and they ran out, but she says they only make it if it's been in high demand. Otherwise, the drink goes to waste. It's totally understandable, but in that case maybe make it a seasonal drink that's not typically on the menu, or have it on sale for certain weeks/weekends. I was devastated that they don't carry it often. Overall, I liked the feel of this place and the employees. I've had better Salvadoran food, I wouldn't say this is authentic, but if you're not used to eating them all your life, you may not notice the difference. I will def give this place a try again and if I'm in the mood for waffles, I know just where to go!

This is the papusas before garnishing!!

My wife and I have driven by this restaurant several times and finally tried it. This was our first time trying papusas, and we're hooked. The staff was very friendly and it was very clean inside. We will be frequenting here now. We will definitely add this place to the rotation!!!

Chicken and cheese pupusa

This place is GREAT. We loved pupusas when we lived in Salt Lake (shoutout to Cafe Guanaco!) and looked for pupusas in Davis County when we moved up here. It's a bit of a drive for us but totally doable. The pupusas are great, we got one with beans and cheese and one with chicken and cheese. The pupusas come with the delicious slaw and red sauce that we've had before. We also got an order of the fried yucca with chicharronè, which comes with more red sauce, slaw, and tomatoes and cucumber on top. Everything was delicious and we are excited to take our leftovers home with us. There were several other tables full at 2:30-3 on a Friday but it was hard to tell if any were having Salvadoran food or the waffles, crepes and breakfast that they also serve. I suspect the tables with kids were having the waffles and crepes, but you should definitely go for the pupusas! We will absolutely be back!

Great place for good authentic crepes and their chicken and waffle dish is really good. Their waffles are great, nice and fluffy. Crepe menu satisfies a sweet tooth if you have one! Also, it's not easy finding a diversity of foods in the area. Nice spot, A+ atmosphere, and service. Highly Recommended.

Excellent food, so many choices we all ordered something different and everyone enjoyed it. They have breakfast all day along with Salvadoran specialties and sandwitches

Carne Asada Tacos

So we called ahead for pickup and ordered on August 1st, 2023. We ordered quite a few things for a 5 person family. I personally ordered 3 carne asada street tacos and I was pretty hopeful since usually the street tacos I've had in the past were super good! But I had no idea if it was actually living up to my expectations. But I'm so glad I ordered them because they were THE BEST TACOS IVE EVER TASTED! Super high quality taste, flavor, ingredients! It was just incredible! Totally recommend getting those carne asada street tacos! Also just an fyi we picked out food up at ate it at home so I wasn't able to experience the place and the environment but great food!

We love this local, small business. Although the wait time for food is often too long, the end result is home cooked food that is fresh. Their waffles are thick and the oftens for toppings are endless! The carne asada is also tasty and their breakfast options like bacon, eggs, hashbrowns are also tasty. Tip: go early! And call ahead because their hours are not consistent!

We decided to give this place another try and are so glad we did!! My daughter was craving crepes and got the banana nutella one and LOVED it! I got the strawberry one, it was delicious. My husband got the Stop Fest Breakfast and it was really good. Very generous servings. The service was so good! Very friendly and attentive.

Okay, to be honest, we have never really tried the waffles here at Waffle Stop and Authentic Salvadorian Cafe. The reason being is that we always stop by here on Tuesdays for their delicious street tacos. Yanno... Taco Tuesdays! There are other taco places around town for Taco Tuesdays, but this place has some of the best and most authentic. We do wish that they offered more accompaniments or a little bar with more sauces, cilantro, sour cream, shredded queso (for those white folks who enjoy a little cheese with their tacos) that the customer could add. It is clearly a family owned and operated business as they have their children seating tables and taking orders. That isn't a problem for the most part, until the younger ones are running through the restaurant screaming while you try to eat. Overall, a cute, family owned business that could use some work and upgrades.

The food was SOOO yummy. We ordered the questions platter and the three cheese popusas smothered in sour cream and cotija cheese. The server was nice and polite and the food came out fast. We enjoyed the open environment and how bright and clean everything was.

Unfortunately on every visit, service always seemed to be struggling and we just stopped coming back. We were looking for a good cafe type spot and through we'd give this place another try. We were not disappointed this time, and were happy to have stopped in. First of all, a weekday lunch was not too busy and we were able to seat ourselves in a comfortable booth. They has specials listed on flip board near the door for both Chinese and American options. The menu was huge and had just about any kind of food you could want. I had my heart set on breakfast, but my dining companions ordered burgers. I had the steak and eggs with a scone on the side. The scone was actually two scones with a big dollop of honey butter melting on the top. I was so excited, I ate one of the scones before I could take my picture. My eggs were cooked just as I asked for (over easy), and the steak was a nice pink medium with great flavor and not too chewy. I savored every bite. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, making sure our drinks were full and we didn't want to anything. Upon check out, I noticed they have a monthly specials board with each day's offering listed. The prices are reasonable and I will definitely be back again.
