As an Asian, I think the taste of food and food making method are really weird. The foods are neither Japanese nor Korean nor Chinese nor Vietnamese nor Thai style. Unlike other asian restaurants which may localize the taste to suit the UK people, the taste of food is too salty (-1 star) and too sweet (-1 star), or simply weird using wrong sauce (-1 star), and simply fake it as an Asian restaurant. The worst is that the rice are not fully cooked at all (-1 stars). For the service, it is nice and fast (+1 star). I recommend Wagamama can learn how to prepare food properly or just hire a Japanese chef. For I only ate the Donburi which I think the easiest preparation one. Perhaps Wagamama can make better dishes other than Donburi. read more

I love Wagamama's. I've spent the last few years abroad, and every time I come home for a visit, I tend to go to Wagamama's in the first few days of being back. Having said that, this has to be one of the worst I've ever been to. The good it great, as always. I didn't notice any difference between the food quality here and any of the others between Guildford and London. However, the service is laughably bad. The waitress walked right past our table while we said, "Excuse me, excuse me, excuse me" in a building crescendo and she failed to notice us. It was as if there was a glass, sound-proof wall between our table and the walkway. All the food came on time and was enjoyable, but when we asked for more tap water (I don't know why we have such bad luck with tap water in the UK,) the waiter tapped it into her machine and walked away. Five minutes later, we looked across over all the empty tables to see her chatting with another waiter. Still, no tap water. I hate to have bad experiences at restaurants I love, but this was really bad. This is a very wonderful Japanese style restaurant. The waiters are polite and professional, but also help to make you relax in the environment, no matter how busy. A vast choice of different delicacies from Japan so there is no shortage for your tastebuds. I ordered the Chicken Katsu, moist chicken and nicely spiced. Our waiter was very knowledgable in the food on the menu, made recommendations and even decided our desserts due to our indecisiveness, great call! Chowing down elbow-to-elbow with a bunch of strangers on cafeteria-like seating just wasn't what we had in mind when my wife and I went on a date. But Wagamama were close, and quick to seat us, so we gave it a try. Our first reaction upon sitting down was, "where the hell do we put our jackets?" No coat hooks, nothing, and our neighbors had been using our seats to store their coats, so we just sat them next to us on our bench. It wasn't until we were almost done with our meal that we realized the cubby that was up under the table, only it really didn't fit our two coats very well. I had the Yasai Chilli Men, and to be honest it seemed more like an Italian Fusion red-sauce dish. I'm a big fan of a nice even sauce-to-food ratio, and they had way too much sauce...the noodles and veg swam around in this sauce. And really...who likes whole-wheat noodles? And when you say tofu you better not skimp. I had a non-descript juice of some sort as well. I wasn't impressed. All-in-all, Wagamama strike me as a cafeteria, wrapped in an idea, wrapped in a gimmick. I can't say that I'll be back. read more

Amazing! The Food is phenomenal, the best Asian food that you will find in the UK. The seating arrangements might not be to everyone's liking but if you have spent any time in South East Asia or China it's just the same as eating in any food court. The service can be a bit hit and miss, but this pales into insignificance after you have started eating. As I said above the food is the best Asian food you will get in the UK, having spend a fair few years growing up in Malaysia, Singapore and Shanghai and would like to think I known what good Asian food tastes like. Asian food ingredients are very very fresh, crisp crunchy veggies and lovely strong stock. Wagamamas food is not like any Chinese take away you might have eaten. Take away food is soggy and drenched in thick sauces that don't exist in Asia. If you want to experience some REAL Asian food go to Wagamamas you will love the food and the atmosphere, the place always has a buzz. read more

We are Americans who had the pleasure of living in Guildford for 2 years about 4 years ago. We lived just up the hill from Wagamama and it quickly became our favorite place. The food was always fresh and delicious. The staff was on the spot and the food came to your table the minute it was prepared. When we returned to the states, we could only dream about our favorite dishes from the "Wag", until, to my surprise, upon visiting my sister in New Hampshire, we found a new Wagamama in Boston at Faneuil Hall. The rest of my family was suspicious, but we urged them to try it and now they love it too. It's still 2500 miles from where we live, but at least it's on this side of the pond. read more

So aside from a few gems I found during my trip last fall, I came to the conclusion that English food for the most part has a lot to be desired. Pub grub can get old. Sunday Roasts are good, but heavy. The Indian food there is really good. As for Asian... well, shame on me for even trying Asian in the UK. The story is that one of my cousins swears by this place. It reminds him of mom's Chinese home cooking. Who knew my aunt cooks crappy pan-asian fusion? I think this was the first branch of Wagamama that we visited and it started an obsession for us. We love it. This particular branch is not our local, we probably only visit this one once a year and the food is exactly the same as other branches and the reason I have given it one less star than the Horsham branch is that it just doesn't have the same ambiance and warmth. read more

Wagamama is a well known chain of asian restaurants and Guildford has one at the bottom of the high street. You'll find there are often queues to get in on Saturdays but since service is quick you probably won't have to wait too long. The food is very tasty and is served fast. I waited barely five minutes after ordering and it was on my table. Seating is in the style of long benches so you may end up sharing, but that's part of the fun. A good place to go for very fast asian food but not so good for romantic evenings. If you're in town and need a quick bite but don't want to lower yourself to fast food go here, otherwise try out Nandos - they are quick as well. read more

This is probably the busiest restaurant in Guildford. It was shocking to find out how unpalatable the food was. I was disturbed by the uncomfortable sweetness and sourness of the ramen broth. It was a cacophony of flavours. One star for the freshly squeezed carrot and ginger juice, although I'm unsure how someone can funk this up. read more

Wagamama's as a chain is very good for those with allergies, as they have extensive allergen information and will custom make most dishes. Food is usually quite prompt, but it is expensive for what it is and there is much better Japanese food out there. This particular branch is often very busy and has a queue outside. read more

My friend treated me to lunch on Monday 17 December. I usually eat at the Kingston or Walton on Thames branches as closer to where I live. I had my favourite dish, Chicken Katsu Curry & my friend had the vegetarian option. I have eaten this dish for many years, the sauce has got much stronger, it makes me choke. My daughter always organised a plum sauce instead. I explained this problem to the very nice waitress, she said she would speak to someone. I said, just in case, keep the sauce separate. The food came, one small taste of the sauce & I was choking. Does it have coriander in it? The black sauce did not compliment the dish. Very disappointing, spoilt my lunch. read more

Just been newly decorated after the floods last year and is one of my favourite wagamamas. Same great taste!!

We've eaten here a few of times and find it interesting. The service has always been friendly and efficient. The food has a slightly mass-produced feel about it but still manages to appear and tatste fresh and flavoursome. I just wish they'd cut back on the salt. The restaurant is child freindly. Our 2 have enjoyed the whole experience - choosing something that mum wouldn't attempt at home and eating with chopsticks - we requested a set to take home and were obliged with a smile. We also take the children up to the cooking area so they can watch their food being prepared - I don't think this is encouraged by the staff but if they are not too busy they've never objected. In summary don't expect a haute dining experience but it is fun - and not a bad price. read more

Nice selection of varied dishes; I've been there a few times now, and while everything has been quite tasty, it's more modern cosmopolitan than Asian in taste. Open late for Guildford (11 PM), though the outdoor seating closes early (6 PM). Seating is communal, and food arrives as it's done, which can mean some members of a group get to sit and watch others eat for awhile. All in all, though, this is one of my favorite spots in Guildford, and I recommend it to any other travellers in town looking for a reasonably priced but still delicious dinner in downtown. read more

The best time to go to Wagamama's is when you have either the 2 for 1 offers or 'buy a meal and get the side dish free' offer. There's plenty of space but it does get cramped during peak hours.
