This review is with regards to interaction with the owner. I stopped by the store and overheard the owner talking to a customer. They were discussing another daycare and owner mentioned that's why you need to be careful, ask questions and do your due diligence. I remember this because as I asked questions to the owner on the temperament test and daycare, she's getting frustrated and essentially saying if I'm asking these standard questions, she's not sure if it's the right fit for me. It astounds me given the timing of her conversation with the previous customer. Plus, it is not unheard of for doggy daycares to lose dogs, or for dogs to get seriously injured (or worse). I don't have comments on daycare, as this interaction with the owner was enough. read more

Called the day before and was able to get an appointment for the next day! The groomer was Michelle and she did a great job on my Havanese puppy. I was pretty nervous as this was his first time going to the groomers to get a haircut and his hair was long. She asked if I had any requests and I explained what I wanted and she did exactly as I asked! He couldn't look any cuter, left very happy, and smelled great. The only thing I wish she did was pluck the hair inside his ears and clean it. We had to clean his ears ourselves the next day because he kept scratching and it was starting to smell. There were also a few pieces of fur that were longer than the others- but it was an easy fix. read more

Like many folks, I ended up getting a "pandemic puppy" and it took my Duke a while to actually socialize with other pups. I knew I had to have him socialize sooner than later. Ofcourse I was super nervous at first but Crystal put my mind at ease. She really made sure to go above and beyond by answering all my questions. She reassured me that Duke will be okay and she was right. Duke loves being there and playing with all the pups. Big or small, all pups have to pass a temperament test, which is fantastic. They don't allow aggressive dogs in their day care and they aren't afraid to say no. This puts the dog owner at ease, knowing they care about every single dogs well being. Doggie-Boarding: We had a week-long, out-of-town wedding to attend, and we were so worried about leaving our 2 puppies. But, Crystal took such good care of them, and eased our anxiety by giving us constant updates and sending us pictures of them having fun and playing with all of the new friends they made. Crystal is a godsend. We wouldn't trust our fur babies with anyone else. They were loved, tended to and supervised 24-7. When we arrived to pick them up, they were happy to see us, of course, but they turned to their fur friends to give them a lick goodbye. Wonderful store! Took my dog in for a bath and the staff was so incredibly kind and friendly, and my dog was comfortable both when I dropped him off and picked him up. They have an excellent selection of pet supplies and the store is super clean and organized. Michele groomed my pup and Krystal helped me pick out some treats that he enjoyed when we got home. After going to Wagging Tails on 4 occasions for a dog self-wash, the owner (an overweight male in his early forties--I forgot his name), accused me of not cleaning up after washing my dog. In fact, on the last occasion I had been there, I swept extensively and even squeegeed where needed (he actually leaves customers brooms and squeegee rods). Despite my best efforts to clean, he said that I hadn't cleaned before and that he had to "suffer" cleaning up after me. Because I didn't appreciate being called a liar and because I believe a dog-washing-place owner is being PAID to clean up after dogs, which is part of doing business with dog-washing, I am not giving him or the store my business. I have also warned my friends not to patronize his business due to the owner's treatment. read more

After a negative experience at Petco, due to their assembly line of pets, or their just being part of a "chain", we were searching for a groomer that would treat our puppy with tlc. Petco had called us 30 minutes after our having left our puppy in their care & we were told our 4 month old miniature schnauzer bit the groomer. Petco did not charge the $85 fee, after shaving her body, & not her head area, & asked we bring her back when a groomer w/ more experience, & better equipped to deal w/ aggressive behavior was present. I was appalled. Our family was so very grateful to have found Wagging Tails on Metropolitan Avenue. Not only did Wagging Tails finish what Petco had failed to do, they bathed & lovingly cared for our puppy, making her beautiful & smelling wonderfully, all for half the price than Petco! As with any hair stylist we find for ourselves that we keep for years, we have definately found Leia's official groomer...we wouldn't trust anyone else with our pup. Highly recommended. read more

Our little senior jack russell mix that we recently adopted absolutely loves Crystal, who runs the pet sitting services at Wagging Tails. My husband and I had a vacation coming up and she understood our desire to set up a schedule to get our dog used to her before we have him stay with her for a week. At first we visited her at the store a couple times, then he stayed with her for only a few hours, then a full day, then overnight, and then 5 days, with a few weeks in between each stay. When Crystal watches our dog, she has been so attentive to his individual needs and sends us updates regularly with photos and videos. Whenever Crystal picks up our pup, he dashes to her car, ready to jump right in. For a sometimes anxious old guy, he's felt immediately comfortable with Crystal. We recently got a new puppy and Wagging Tails is right down the road from us. I was expecting it to be over priced but wanted to support the small business but assumed I'd end up having to go to PetCo or something in the future. Well, the woman who has been there every time was so friendly! She offered to help, we talked about my new puppy among other things. I purchased food, some chewy toys, etc.. and she gave me a few doggy cookies to welcome our new guy home. I've gone back multiple times since then and did go to PetCo once and was surprised that most of the prices were competitive if not better! We previously shopped at a "Boutique pet shop" in forest hills but that place didn't give us good vibes and our puppy JC didn't like it one bit. Stopped by Wagging Tails to pick up new dog food since JC decided he no longer wanted the kibble we were feeding him. James- I believe he's the owner was super helpful and answered all our questions. He gave us great advise and so far we haven't had a problem feeding JC. Prices were similar to Amazon and cheaper than Petco. I will continue to support this mom & pop shop! read more

This is my first time going to a self washing station to wash my dog, a golden retriever. This place is really nice. You are practically using the equipment that the actual dog groomers use. You are only allowed to use the station if groomers are off so make sure to call before you head there. I was lucky that was the case. It was $15 for the use of station. This was our dog's first cut and they were very friendly with both us and Hina. The groomer, upon meeting Hina, was very sweet and efficient with her work. If you have any questions (Veternarians, dog trainers in the area, hypoallergenic foods, remedies etc) they always have answers, & they're always super helpful. Today was the first time I took my dog to be groomed here at Wagging Tails. Michelle was very patient with this first timer who BTW is an 84 pound Doberman. I was surprised to hear Michelle got to cut my dogs nails! My dogs never lets me cut her nails. This is my go-to pet store. I moved to Queens a few months back and have been coming here since.The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I always leave with a genuine smile on my face as both employees I always deal with turn a mundane run to the pet store into a pleasant experience. Always cheerful and genuine. I mentioned in passing a few months back that it was my dogs birthday and they gave me a special treat for my pup. There are about half a dozen pet stores all within a 10 minute walk of my place and they all have the dog food I buy, but I drive 20 minutes each way specifically go to Wagging tails on Metropolitan. Love love love this store. It's not even the closest pet store to me but it is where I go for all of our cats needs (we have 5). I am always greeted warmly, I'm well known at this point, and on many occasions the owner has stocked items I've requested because I'd rather get it from him than online. He now carries my brand of litter, and litter deodorizer all because of a request. So friendly and incredibly accommodating. It's wonderful when you find a place run by people who treat you as a human being! Upon my first visit to casually check out Wagging Tails, I saw what a great variety of pet food and products this store has as well as the remarkably clean and spacious dog grooming facilities. I decided to bring my dog back for a self-service wash later that week after work. It happened to be a gridlock alert day when I was late leaving work and while a TV series was commandeering two blocks of Metropolitan Ave and side streets nearby. Needless to say, I was late for the end of the self service wash times. I called en route to ask if extended time was possible and was pleasantly surprised by Crystal's (sp?) friendly and gracious treatment. She was so kind and personable even though I was totally infringing on her cleanup time by taking a half hour to wash and dry my large, 75 lb. border collie lab mix. I will definitely bring my dog back again! The next time Max needs a bag of food or is specially deserving of some homemade treats, I will bring my business to Wagging Tails on Metropolitan Ave. read more

Wagging Tails is a great small pet shop business that I happily support! Petco is opening up down the street soon so I do hope Wagging Tails maintains its business. I've been to the store a couple of stores when in a pinch I need some dog food. They don't offer everything as it is a small pet shop but they have the essentials and they have adorable baked treats at the front cash wrap. I also went to get my dog groomed here. I called in advance to make an appointment and unfortunately they only have a groomer available on Thursdays so I had to wait 3 weeks for an open appointment, but it was worth the wait. The groomer gave my dog the exact cut I wanted. It took approximately 2 and half hours. I also had to bring my rabies vaccine form. It was a really affordable cut. I've had my dog groomed at 3 different places in Astoria and Wagging Tails was the cheapest. They even put a little bandana on on my dog! read more
