Fresh and not hard to chew ! I went out of my way to get more jerkey for the road which included apple jerkey...garlic pepper jerkey and more teriyaki jerkey! The seasoning is just right, and the flavor and texture is perfect! I am hooked! Great for snacking and well packaged for traveling. Everyone is so friendly there...especially ELY! First off, everyone that works at Wagon Wheel is very friendly and helpful. The store is always clean and smells great when you walk in. The problem is this meal I just got tonight, everything on this plate tasted awful. The crab meat seemed frozen, old and salty. The tri-tip was tough and tasted like old beef jerky, and the broccoli salad was mushy and gross. I actually feel very sick to my stomach at the moment. I'm very disappointed especially for the price of this meal. $130 for a meal for two people. What has happened to the quality of food these days! The store itself gets 4 but this food gets 0 stars. This isn't the first time I have gotten gross food. Either overcooked, undercooked, too salty, or bland. My husband does love the sandwiches there tho. read more

I had to trim away probably a third of the weight of the roast and the fillet was ok, but for the price they charge, no thanks. I have frequented this establishment for over 28 years and highly recommend Wagon Wheel.

I live five minutes away from this store and it's too pricey for me but once in a while when I want to splurge I buy the lobster tails for a celebration. The steaks are great and the store is warm and inviting. The folks who work there always make me feel welcome, and they even sell one pound boxes of See's candy and packages of See's lollipops. The Wagon Wheel was recommended by our friend for groceries and snacks. We stopped by for sandwiches and stuff before heading out to feather falls. Its located near the Oroville Dam, outside of town. We were staying near by, so it was perfect. We considered the sandwiches, and I casually asked "What's good". The reply was a friendly "They're all good". And she was right. The smoked turkey sandwich was my healthy option. It was piled high with meat and crunchy veggies, with plenty of dressing, on a sweet roll. The minion had a similarly loaded tri-tip sandwich. Tri-tip! Not sure if they bbq'ed it there, or if it was from a supplier, but it tasted as good as it sounds. They were remarkably nice and pleasant. She waited patiently while we ordered our sandwiches, and everyone else in the store smiled and were helpful. Btw, they're decorations are really patriotic. Grew up just a couple miles from here. My dad always had his deer meat done here. He bought knives from the guys in the shop. I always hit it up when I visit my mom. The last couple of times there wasn't a mask in sight so I just turned around and left. It's not political...or FREEDOM!...or being a PATRIOT! It's basic common sense and courtesy to wear masks, especially around food and older high-risk people. So this year I skipped my big Christmas gift shopping trip. You cannot miss it if you are going to Lake Oroville as it fronts Oro Dam Highway. The store has all the necessity items, not a large selection, however, my recommendation for going there is for the deli sandwiches, fresh seafood options (i.e., King Crab Legs, Lobster Tails, Salmon, etc.), and their various meat options. A nice deli. Grab a deli sandwich and head up to to the dam. Somewhat pricier than compared to Subway or Quiznos but very good. The deli folks said they make their own meat. I got the muffaletta sandwich. Ever since I ate one in New Orleans, when I see it on the menu, I like to order it and compare it. It was good and reminiscence of the Nawlins sandwich. I just got hot roast beef sandwich for $13 from their deli. What a rip off!!! So unbelievably pitiful. This sandwich had practically no meat. I requested no dressings, wrote it on their own form and got mustard on it. Doesn't seem like this would be a difficult thing to make. Place was empty so they weren't rushing. Two things: if you can't make a sandwich based on your own form, that I filled out you have a problem. Also, based on the components of this, it couldn't have cost $2.00 to make. To say $13.00 was outrageous is the understatement of the day. Had I not gotten it to go, I would've asked for my $ back. My husband got a pastrami, just as pitiful. You can see by the picture how small they are. I doubt they were six inches and were noted as the large! Don't waste your money on their sandwiches. Wagon Wheel is great. They are a small market but have a lot of stuff. They have one, if not the best butcher shops in Butte county. If you can't find the cut of meat or type of seafood there, it probably isn't in Butte county. What I really like about Wagon Wheel is that, I've been into cooking Sous Vide and they will prepare your cut the way you want it, season it with their seasoning then vacuum seal it for you. Just cooked a 2 rib Prime rib Sous Vide they prepared for me and it was freaking delicious. Gordon Ramsay couldn't have done better. read more

It's been a couple years since I have walked into the location but, I call and order the seasonings and have them shipped a couple times a year. They are so nice and so helpful! Love that I can get my favorite Breakfast Pork Sausage, Italian Pork Sausage seasonings shipped directly to me. In addition to the sausage seasonings we also like the lemon seasoning but don't forget our all time favorite Santa Maria Seasoning. The Santa Maria Seasoning here is different than many other places - this is a white color seasoning that is excellent on anything and everything; Tri Tip, Chicken, Stir Fry, Grilled Veggies you name it we put it on it! I always order 6 or more of the bulk packages of the Santa Maria Seasoning as we use it on everything! read more
