I like it bloody, where you can actually taste the beef flavor. -Tacos - i ask the homie "Why"??? Who knows , but the homie gets what their heart desires. We stayed overnight in Oroville on our way back from Portland to Southern California. We were happy to find an upscale steakhouse to try in the area. Safire is sumptuously decorated, with an emphasis on modern elegance. The lighting and ambiance set the mood for a wonderful evening. Cecilia was our server and she was assisted by Colin. They were both wonderful and gave us great suggestions for our appetizers and meals. The food was deliciously prepared and the staff was extremely attentive. It happened to be our parents' 59th wedding anniversary that evening. When Cecilia discovered this, she brought out a decadent piece of cheesecake to celebrate. Stayed at the hotel before we popped over to Marysville for the bok kai festival and got the opportunity to try a few items on the menu here. I sure hope whoever their chefs and line staff are stay there forever! Their staff is a treasure, too! Pork chop is super thick, fatty, soft, juicy, tender. Mashed potatoes whipped and buttery. My partner ordered it - I will have to get that next time! Tho I also enjoyed the special salmon penne pasta that I ordered. Penne perfectly cooked al dente, sauce flavorful with some veggies cooked in for a more balanced decadent meal. I've never had salmon cooked to perfection like that for a pasta dish before. I eat pretty slowly and it stayed good the whole time! Tender, not overcooked, flavorful We are always a little hesitant to order salmon at restaurants since it usually gets overcooked but I would definitely try their salmon entrée next time... If I don't order the pork chop instead :) Serving sizes are for one if you're hungry but you probably won't have room for BOTH dessert and app. We had several different cocktails and they were all solid. The crème brulé was excellent (I am NOT a good judge as I will eat any form of sweet egg custard) and I would get it again IF I didn't instead choose their fabulous chocolate lava cake... Normally I'm unimpressed with lava cakes so I don't order them, but this one checked all the boxes. The sugar caramelizes on the outside, the cake is moist and not dry, the chocolate inside isn't actually burn-ur-mouth hot but perfect. They also very kindly gave us a banana parfait thing on the house since they said they overcooked the first lava cake and were making a new one, and I would say they should add that to their regular menu, too! Like carmelized bananas on top of banana pudding on top of banana bread crumble? Serving size is for one Their spinach artichoke dip with mini naan was also solid. I like that there was a lot of vegetable content in this ratio (tho tbh personally one of my favorite spinach dips is just the cold one from safeway lol). Serving size is an app for two people. The service was ok but the food was terrible my rib bye was pier raw, and when I say raw I mean raw where I don't complain ever it's just was terrible. The waitress was polite but not as on top of the drinks or food. I will not be coming back to eat here. If you come here I hope you have a better experience than I had. Ive lived in Oroville for most my life and remember when Safire first opened and always planned to go, but never seemed to make it over to try it out. Tonight seemed like the perfect time to check it out so the wife and I have it a go. Being in a casino, I understand people might be wary of the quality, but believe it or not we found the food to be top notch. And the service was fantastic, Angus the server was knowledgeable and friendly and told us about all the house made items. We had the beef skewers made from the filet mignon, and the chicken satay with the 18 oz cowboy cut Ribeye. I've seldom had a more tender piece of meat. They were moderately busy but still had the ambiance of a nice quiet room with comfortable seats and were fairly quick with the food. ..TStarted off with the Hostess's first words "do you have a reservation?". Not Hi, how are you this evening, but "do you have a reservation?". The bread/water guy was prompt (best experience all night). The next server arrived to tell us he's not our server, as ours is busy, but at least took our drink order. Then after a very long wait our server finally shows up, tells us the dinner special item I wanted is not available, and comes back later to take our order. My husband orders a Porterhouse steak RARE, and we order salads. After about half an hour the salads finally show up from a different server. We have to ask about the bottle of wine we had ordered from our regular server, as it has never arrived. Finally our regular server shows up, and after about another 10 minute wait brings our bottle of wine. Then after about another 30 minute wait our entrees are delivered by yet another server, and our entrees had clearly been sitting under a heating lamp for a long time. The rare porterhouse my husband ordered is WELL DONE! The manager shows up, we complain, they offer to cook another steak about this point it's too late, we've been there almost 2 hours, service sucked, food is super late and overdone. We do NOT recommend this place, something is VERY off with the service and the food was mediocre at best. read more

We save to go here once a year for some celebration if we can manage. Food is always amazing and yes if something is wrong they rectify it. I have a beef allergy and advise my server. I've never had a reaction after eating here as opposed to some places downtown. I highly recommend trying for a sunset reservation. It's absolutely beautiful seeing the sunset over the hills and city. One note: on concert days they get slammed. I would plan accordingly and advise them when you arrive. Dinner was also delayed. Food was good, but 2 1/2 hours for dinner was unacceptable. Waiter made apologies & offer of dessert, but far too little & too late. Brunch Review; Very disappointing. There were only 4 breakfast type items on their brunch menu and 2 of those items were not available. The Chorizo Hash and Crab Benedict were not available due to a lack of ingredients. They did substitute a Prime Rib Benedict for the crab. Which my husband did order. The poached egg was so under cooked the whites were still translucent. I had the Tri tip and eggs, which was good. The potatoes with bell pepper and onions tasted like they were cooked separately, then put together on the plate. Flavor was bland with no seasoning. Top notch chef Jamie cooked our tri tip & augratin potato's to perfection! Tri tip was so tender I cut it with a butter knife. The augratin potato's are the best I've ever had. Let's just say - don't bother dining there. We had a 615pm reservation and didn't get our dinners till 730pm. Yes some in the party had drinks. The server was "I'm the weeds". We hardly saw her and finally the manager brought the food out after we got his attention. His comment when we asked for our dinners was - oh yes I saw them. Makes me think they were sitting somewhere. Which brings me to how it looked and tasted. My niece and I ordered salads with protein - they were warm. Must have been sitting. My husband and nieces bf both ordered prime rib steak - they looked different. They looked like they had sat under a heat lamp for a long time. Yes we ate them because we were going to a show at 8pm and were hungry. Once again to the server - we never saw her except for a few times. I hate to throw her under the bus but I hope she gets better at her job. Maybe an off night. Food basically was poor for the price. I would never come here again. Then we watched as our entrees were delivered to bar area and sit. and sit. and sit...finally flagged down the bartender and pointed towards our plates - asking if we could have them. Ribeye was a small, thin cut husband had to eat with a butterknife for the better part because bartender took 20 minutes to hunt one down. My pasta was soo bland and kind of cold....again, had to ask for salt and pepper. Asparagus arrived with no hollandaise - when I asked bartender about it he replies "oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, we don't offer that apparently...there's a button for it on the computer so I just assumed but yeah no.". Okay then. This is the rudest and most unprofessional "manager". The fact that this establishment would employ a person like this is totally beyond me. After my meal came to my table I pointed out that a part of the meal was missing. The manager immediately went on the offense with me. I explained that I was a clientele and he immediately said that I was no clientele of his. There are many MANY unprofessional things this so called manager stated to me. Alfonso has no place in customer service. In fact I believe his only place is in anger management class. I've seen a completely fake/different side of him once security got on scene. This is probably the side that his interviews saw. Gold Country Casino and Safire completely lost my business going forward, I will never step foot in that place until a Alfonso is no longer employed there. Follow up to the "Director of Food and Drinks": Go figure, I had a feeling my complaint would go absolutely no where. You're one sided Joel, and you can hear it in your vindictive comments in your reply to my review. I did kind of see this coming.. Let's talk about your "surveillance"...there really isn't much to talk about because there's NO SOUND! Duh. Everything about this was verbal. Now that that is established.. I did order A1 for your beef, however, it was not a substitute for the sauce that was supposed to come with the order. Gone is the classy fine dinning and now it's a high priced Apple Bees meets night club. Gone are the white linen table cloths, the chargers, the silverware layer out properly and the soft atmosphere. Now it's basic wood top tables, napkin wrapped silverware, plain tables nothing classy with night club music blasting in the background. The service has fallen to a standard of below a chain restaurant. Want ice water, just one, after that they set a bottle of room temperature water on your table so they don't have to be bothered to actually service the table. The food is not timed at all it is just shoving one dish after the next on your table. No time to enjoy a dish, not that there is much to enjoy. No palette cleanser between dishes, no cleaning the tables of crumbs, no effort. The intimate setting is gone and now it's trying to talk to my wife over crap night club music. This place already has this, it's called the bar down stairs. The menu has limited food choices. You can definitely tell they only want to sell drinks and appetisers. We both started with a small Caesar salad, don't waste your money. The chef doesn't even chop the lettuce, that's your job. The croutons were hot since they were just fried, not what I like on a cold salad but let's try, they are made from a cornmeal like consistency. They were still raw in the middle. Outside crispy inside raw batter in your mouth. Really nothing Caesar about this salad other than the romaine lettuce. My wife ordered the filet mignon classic. The steak was cooked decently but very bland, no seasoning, they don't have their steak house sauces that were great they are gone. The mashed potatoes were Luke warm and dry and pasty. The season vegetables should have been seasonal vegetable singular since it was only cauliflower and again bland. It's like they are scared of salt and seasoning. Myself I order the "special" a rice and lobster dish with chicken and elk sausage. Sounded great, for $29 it was a let down. The lobster bland, over cooked and chewy. The lobster at a buffet has a better cook than this. No elk sausage, dry chewy chicken and rice that was not fully cooked inside but sticky on the outside. The dessert choices are two, only two. No creme brûlée's, nothing fancy, nothing appetising. We said we would try it after the remodel. A waste of a remodel. They took away the fine dinning and replaced it with an Apple bees that charges $30 a plate. We tried it, we won't go back. The cafe has the same quality food, if not better, and it doesn't cost $100 for two. read more

It was our 1 yr wedding anniversary. We had dinner at the same place a year age , it was lovely then and impeccable service and dinner. This year the restaurant went under renovations, it looks great, and very clean. We arrived the last half hour of happy hour, it was very nice of the hostess to bring that to our attention. We stayed and ordered an appetizer and drinks. The appetizer came timely, as did our drinks, the problem was the coconut shrimp arrived oily and the batter still uncooked. They were very nice, the took it off our order. Dinner was just as oily as well. I ordered the chicken and cornbread waffles. The plate was beautiful but looks are deceiving. The chicken was too salty, I think it was brined and didn't get rinsed. The veggies were beautiful but fully overloaded with garlic, and the cornbread waffles were dry and bland. My husband ordered rib eye and 1/4 of it was gristle and fat. He liked his whipped potato and the veggies were bland, I guess mine had all the garlic. Our table had been wiped down with a dirty rag cause there were smears. Not cool for restaurant of this caliber. Our dinner service was spotty. He oozed with the table next to us and across from us several times during our dining but as he was passing our table while walking he would ask how we were doing.... with a thumbs up. Ugh! We barely caught him to tell we were ready to leave. We saw the management walk to the two tables earlier mentioned and walked past ours. The food is not worth coming back, the wait service at dinner is not worth a second trip. Too bad because I think they have potential. We will choose another place next year for our anniversary dinner. Update: thank you Joel for your response. It was vert thoughtful and encouraging to know that you care about your business and want customer satisfaction. With what you mentioned I would like to try a do over, the added dishes are tempting. My thoughts were that though the menu looked great, it was the execution of the dishes that needed tasting before going out. As well as the wait person could give the impression that all three tables that evening are important to check in with. The Hostess that night was very thoughtful about making our night special, I think she may have mentioned it to our waitstaff as well but it wasn't received. Our appetizer was delicious, we couldn't help but get the baked pretzel and cheese dip, all very delicious. My husband ordered the steak and it was cooked perfectly and a good cut of meat. I ordered the halibut which was made perfectly. Flaky and moist. Our serving sizes were large enough that we couldn't eat it all and brought it home. Wow! The brunch food is good here. So the reason for my 3 star is because I feel like a $9 for a tiny glass of mimosa is over kill. There not an option for bottomless mimosas. What is brunch with out mimosas? You could charge 16 for bottomless or something to that effect. People would pay. I was shocked when it came out. I thought okay $9 bucks should be a large glass of it but it was a very petite glass of orange juice with hardly any champagne. Disappointed by that greatly. I don't dislike this place but if I'm going to enjoy brunch it just won't be here probably would be at the exchange where the food is really good and also has drinks at fair prices for a Sunday funday. I have never dinned in the formal area but both times have gone for happy hour cocktails and appetizers. The prices are reasonable, service is great and the food has been amazing. On our first trip to Oroville for some time, we checked out Safire and were very pleasantly surprised. The service and food were very good and friendly and the setting was excellent. The dining room is on the sixth floor of the casino which makes it about five floor higher than anything else around so you get a high-rise view of the area. The drinks from the bar were excellent and the server was more than accommodating and answered all our questions about the new restaurant. Three of us ordered the rib eye steak and they all came out just right. We will definitely be back the next time in town and our friends, from Chico/Durham, will sure to be back. read more
