The hosts are fantastic, and the house is perfectly located for day trips. If you're looking for something to do, then they have plenty of great ideas from local farmers markets to the best beaches, all the way to rugged mountain hikes. We'll definitely stay here again!

So, when I decided to come back for a second trip, I booked at Waimea Guest House again. Leandra and Pat were very helpful in finding me the perfect room for my needs and budget (the Saddle Room was sadly booked this time) and I ended up in the Lindsey Homestead. It's so cool to learn about the interesting history of this home and each room has a different story! Both rooms were a classy mix of old-school and modern - clean and simple decor keeps the whole place feeling fresh and new, despite the charming old home quirks. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone - the hosts are great and very responsive, the place is beautiful, and the location is perfect... Waimea is up in the hills so driving home after the heat of the beach was always really refreshing.

Not only is the house beautiful and the location great (just 4 miles from the turnoff from highway 19 and 5 miles from the Waipio Valley Lookout), but most importantly, Jacqueline is an incredible host. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and just a joy to spend some time with. She has been living in this area for the past 35 years and has all of the best tips on where to go and how to spend your limited time. She gave us great suggestions for restaurants in nearby Waimea (25 mins away) and things to do during our hike down into Waipio Valley. Will definitely plan to stay here again on our next trip to the Big Island!

The home and grounds are well maintained and rooms very nicely appointed. No chemicals are used inside the home and a lot of the fruit that is served for breakfast is grown on the property. Excellent choice for those who appreciate organic living. Sweetie, the house cat is darling and not at all bothersome, she's a lovely addition to the warm welcome you feel here. We WILL be back!

Check-in was warm and the complimentary upgrade lent a genuine sense of hospitality -- one the stay itself never lived up to. The air conditioning was broken and clearly overdue for servicing. Housekeeping was inconsistent at best: personal items had been moved in ways we found inappropriate, bed linens went unchanged for stretches, and the towels bore visible stains on two different occasions. Most concerning was a basic hygiene failure we witnessed directly: a housekeeper handled the trash bin and then, without changing gloves or washing hands, proceeded to handle and place our fresh towels. That is not a lapse in polish -- it is cross-contamination, and at a property of this caliber it points to a gap in training and supervision that guest-facing warmth cannot paper over. We've shared the details with hotel management and trust the Fairmont brand team will want to look into this. One expects a Fairmont to get the fundamentals right. This one did not.
