How awesome is that and why don't more parks do this!? I've never seen that at any parks. You can sign out putters/balls at the rec center office (someone else posted a photo of the sign out instructions here). It appears to only be available Mon-Fri during business hours. Still, an awesome thing to have available. You can bring your own putters/balls if you come on a weekend. There was also a soccer court, tennis court, pickle ball court, football field, baseball field, and a pool with water slides. A lot to do here. Additionally, there was a birding surprise here. We came a little after lunchtime, and while it was busy at the pool, it wasn't TOO bad as it probably is on a weekend. We set up base at a spot near a tree to collect a little shade and lathered up in sunscreen. The pool has strict rules of no food and drinks other than water, but it keeps the place clean and risk free, which is actually appreciated by me. The pool stays between 68°-70°, which is a temperature not too cold on impact, but still super relaxing to hang in. The pool is massive with plenty of people hanging around in all corners. It's a great spot in summer but definitely not a hidden gem. It's an extremely well-known gem. I'm curious how populous it is during peak times, but that random Wednesday afternoon was perfect. While there is a parking lot in front of Barton Springs, it still belongs to the city of Austin and shares space with Zilker Park patrons. A few guidelines: -No food, alcohol or glass allowed -No animals allowed -Floats, waters and foldable chairs allowed When you're setting up for the day, the further you are from the water, the flatter the land. The closer you are, the steeper it gets. As much as I'd love to trust in the people of Austin, petty theft can still happen, so keep an eye on your belongings. As mentioned, some may enjoy the water, some may not. For me, no matter how many times I tried to get in, I couldn't last more than two minutes due to how cold and deep it was! Apparently, "open swim" means head must be above waterline at all times & no swimming on ones back (albeit, this definition has ONLY been provided by one of the life guards & what constitues "swimming" is NOT defined in writing ANYwhere. Note: you can NOT swim with goggles & your head in the water during "open swim." It does not matter if you are the only one in the pool (as verbally stated to me by today's lifeguard). He insisted that the lifeguard on duty has the authority to enforce the rules (I don't dispute that), but the rules are not posted anywhere, consequently, how can I follow them?

The center is easy to find located just off of Briarcrest Drive near the Wal Mart and Bryan High. They have a few really great slides for the older kids and a kiddie pool for the little ones, if you like to swim laps there is a designated time in the morning for this and even some evening hours at different points throughout the year. It is well worth the admission or even the cost of a family pass.

Lots of water and ice on the course which is helpful as the temps approach a hunskie. It is a good way to break up the trip from San Antonio to Dallas since the club is less than a mile from IH 35. They were ushering us onto the grass so it was clearly normal. Where to begin? We were told what a great deal they got with half-priced drinks. $7 a bottle for the cheapest beer. I think not. The food was cold, not a little, but really cold and none of it was remotely appetizing. I always finish my food, not this time. Asked for water because I didn't want to pay the theme park prices, I was given warm water. Now it wasn't just warm, it tasted absolutely horrible-- could not believe it. I was quite certain they put a bittering agent in it (not sure if this is legal but I hope not). Frustrated, and unwilling to pay the prices for drinks, I went in search of a water fountain or soda machine, assuming a country club must have one. I went to a little gym area they had that was immaculately clean, smelling fresh, and they have a great big tank of water complete with lemon and such. It tasted absolutely great. I am thoroughly convinced they put a bittering agent in the water and just served up awful food. The venue should be embarrassed of the level of the service they give. I always tell individuals planning events to steer clear! Is it a good country club? Heck, it looks nice, but don't put your wedding or other event here unless you want BYOW (bring your own water!!)
