I've been to Wake Med twice now, once for my husband and the most recent time, for me. When Urgent Care is shut down, this is the next best place for medical emergencies, though, a costly one. Wake Med has wonderful staff and they're all very caring, I have no issues with anyone we've encountered here. My most recent visit was for an infected abscess. We spent a good 4+ hours in the waiting room for something that took maybe 15 minutes total to get looked at. Insurance covered $3xx out of the $15xx bill. I received one antibiotic pill, a bottle of wound spray, and a wrap. Healthcare in this country is so ridiculously expensive and outright unaffordable. The restroom was a bit dirty which is surprising for a hospital. There were dirty paper towels on the floor. Overall, I try to avoid this hospital as much as possible, and unfortunately, that means waiting until last minute. It's just too expensive and wait times are horrible here. read more

My family member went in with symptoms with a possible heart issues. After 7 hours, still waiting.....Most patients have been waiting for 9+ hours. Discussing HIPAA information in the waiting room including discussion of diagnosis, medication and treatment.....the list goes on. Epic fail. We are told if we left AMA that no meds will be issued. But I bet that insurance would be filed. read more

Had a totally unacceptable stay recently. Staff were not very responsive when needed. Also denied food for 14 hours while waiting for a decision about a procedure, then when it was decided to not do the procedure, food was not offered or provided. That decision could and should have been made hours earlier. We'll never come back to this facility. If you want better care, better to go to the main Wake Med facility. read more

Was in ER at Wakened against my wishes and they knew. Was drunk in my house morning the loss of my dog. They he is me down and gave me a shot w/out telling me what it was or side effects, just found out yesterday the side effects. I have not been able to sleep more than a few hours and also have arthritis. They basically assaulted me and held me down to give that shot. Gonna look at what my options are. Our experience here was pretty disappointing - we've had to come to this location before to deal with a broken foot and not only was that not handled well but the ER physician missed MANY broken bones in our daughters foot. This review is regarding our other daughter's emergency appendectomy. We arrived at ER at 10 pm and didn't leave until 3 am - when I say leave, I mean my daughter didn't get transported via ambulance to the New Bern Avenue location until 3. She still needed surgery! We waited 3 1/2 HOURS for an ambulance to transport her to the hospital that can do surgeries, Falls of Neuse has no surgical abilities. Had I known, I could have saved five hours off of our lousy experience... Overall, just was not impressed with the PA that saw my daughter, he was way too gregarious and casual dealing with my daughter who was in severe distress from her appendix pain. My daughter had three different nurses, none communicated with the others - we were asked the same questions over and over because the right hand didn't know what the left was doing. Since they can't do surgeries at this location, I guess a person could go here for stitches? The flu? We won't visit here again if we can help it. Lastly, staff was quite unprofessional talking about very personal things at the registration desk, literally 15 feet from the patients. There was a group of about six women gossiping and laughing really loudly and frankly it wasn't considerate of the people who were obviously in pain/distress. Just disappointing all around. Only positive thing to say is waiting area is spotless as was ladies room. read more

I visited Wakemed hospital on October 28,2023 as a new patient. My visit was to do my physical.I waited for a while before I could get an appointment.Dr.John Wheelan was the doctor I was booked to see on that day.I reached the location pretty early and was very happy that I did find a doctor who would be my primary care doctor.I moved to Raleigh in 2022 and it was very difficult to find a primary care doctor.The assistant who took my blood pressure,weight and height was very courteous and polite. She made me feel very comfortable,however, when Dr.Wheelan came into the room, I was immediately surprised at his cold demeanor. He greeted me but he was not delighted to see me.He was so distant and rude.I was trying to explain something to him and he quickly cut me off in a stern,condescending tone.I was taken aback.He asked me some questions and never made eye contact for the little time I was in his office.Apart from the physical, I had a consistent cough and congestion for a while.I asked Dr.Whelan if he could refer me to a ENT specialist because I had sinus problem.for a while, he bluntly told me no. I have never seen this doctor before and for him to treat me like this, says a lot about his character as a doctor.He also sent me out of his office quickly to stand in an area to get some prescriptions.In my opinion, he wanted to get rid of me so badly.I was scared to call Dr.Wheelan after my results were posted to ask him to explain them because I did not trust him.This is my life and I am due for another physical but I can never go back to Dr.Wheelan because I am literally scared.The way he treated me as a patient and made me feel as a patient, I am still wondering what was his reason for his behavior towards me that day.If I could give him zero star,I would.The hospital reached out to me a few days after my visit and asked me to fill out a survey form.I gave Dr.Wheelan poor ratings but I lied on the form because all his ratings should have been poor.The hospital indicated that they would reach out to me ,but they never did. read more

This is not the quality care experience you'd expect. We came to the emergency room and from time to arrival until we had someone check on us was 3 hours. It was such a bad experience that despite my wife being in such pain that brought her to the emergency room she elected to leave and go home. Unfortunately the pain came back and we returned later at night and it was a repeat of the same routine of 3 hours of waiting to be seen. Then basic vitals taken then go back to waiting room for another hour and a half then have lab work done then wait another hour and a half for someone to check in on you then 2 hours for no reason other than they are busy. We arrived at 5pm and I'm now writing this at 4am with no meaningful update from the time we arrived here. Just not what you'd expect in a state with such strong medical schools and practitioners. They need some folks from Disney to come do some basic customer training. read more

Dirtyfloirs, garage in the exam rooms, smeared blood on the waiting room chairs, I could go on and on about how dirty but then, triage and in a room in about an hour and then 4 hours in the room and crickets- no one has been in this exam room. Its really unfortunate that they are so disorganized and lack any sense of urgency to care for the sick and injured. read more

NOPE!! Do not go here! Not even as a last resort or in a life or death situation. My child was having severe neck spasms and even told the triage nurse and nurse servicing that he was also having trouble breathing every time the spasms occurred. They gave him some meds and, as we waited for them to start working, my child began to have another spasm and literally had to lay on their dirty *ss floor because we were never taken to a room with a bed. We were in a triage room with a bunch of other sick *ss people. My son was in so much pain when one of the nurses asked what was wrong. I told her my child was in extreme pain and her response was "well, he cant lay on the floor" and walked away. Wait, wha.... The only reason why my child was on the floor is because you all refuse to place him in a room with a bed, wtf. There is no way that these nurses are educated... maybe book smart but the ants on the ground in my backyard have more empathy than these clowns. I will never go here again and should have read the reviews first. I also noticed NO minorities were taken to their own rooms smh. Nurse Kelly was great and has lots of patience. We never saw an actual doctor. The nurse is the lady with the brunette red hair and she does have her name tag showing so o can't even report her. She works on weekends though. read more

This review is for Wake med north my doctor's office is on Durant road, I was sent here for a CT Scan the tech was nice but since I am sick and partially dehydrated she missed the blood vein, I needed a contrast by IV, it was extremely painful. Here is where it becomes crazy, I am laying here in pain with the needle stuck in my arm, she is trying to find a radiologist but no radiologist after 500. I asked who is going to read the scan she says main hospital. Meanwhile I ask can you please remove the needle. She is back and forward on the phone with her supervisor she has asked for a doctor to come and check me but doctor refused then she asked for a nurse and no nurse I am at a hospital, no doctor no nurse what a joke I was then sent to wake med new bern a doctor was waiting checked me and a nurse to try IV in my other arm and the technician who did CT Scan was simply amazing read more

Well when this hospital you go to lets you wait three hours while you watch everyone walk straight in and get a room you tend to ask why? Triage? Yes but even a Cat 3 triage should move faster then 3 hours. Told the nurses my wife's abdominal pain radiates every where now and went from an 8 to a 10. No nurse ever asked if she was OK post triage and have been avoiding us like the plague. This hospital has a waiting time sign up and yes you guessed it average wake med north waiting time 2 hours, while other wake med hospital in our the greater area show 15-20 minute waits. I pray to God my wife didn't sit here for 3 hours slumped in a chair with a burst appendix while I watched people walk in smiling under their own power and get seen right away. Worst service hospital I have seen in half a century on 3 continents and 7 US states....also besides the normal triage we have for serious cases they have a special easy problem in and out triage room. So come in have lower priority medical issues that are easier to treat and you get in and out in a jiffy service as opposed to people with more severe problems who get to sit there 3 times as long. Doesnt that defeat the purpose of severity triage if you let easier problems get seen before more serious ones? read more

Every time I have brought anyone there you can be guaranteed to be there 4-5 hours. It honestly seems like the staff here is hanging out talking staring at screens. When you see a doctor take a good look at him cause you wont see him again for 2 hours or more . If you're in pain dont worry they'll get you something when they get around to it. Im not even the patience its really disappointing how uncaring they are. read more

If zero stars were an option, that is how I would rate Wake Med Emergency Department - I dislocated my finger, on a Saturday afternoon. First I went to Wake Med Urgent Care- they said they could not help me, and sent me to the Emergency Dept. ( they still billed me). I waited hours to be seen. It was not busy. The staff was rude and crass. I will billed an exorbitant amount of money. I will never use any Wake Med facilities in the future. read more

I am sad that I have to write this review because over the last few months I genuinely felt as though the Emergency Department was getting better. It is currently 1:00 in the morning and I am once again in a hospital bed. The staff seems distracted and curt even though there are hardly any people here. I suffer from chronic illness and a compromised immune system but apparently that is not enough to be taken seriously because when I mention to the Nurse that everyone seems in a bad mood (my way of saying that they aren't being very nice to me), she retorts by telling me that they have much more sick patient to attend to. As a side note, let me add that no one want to be in the hospital. It's scary, it's lonely, and getting stuck over and over again with needles is downright painful. So when a patient schleps her way to the ER in the middle of the night, the least you can do is be kind. I came in with a severe sore throat and fever. As a Strep Carrier, I am prone to getting strep and other throat infections. I was already on antibiotics when I arrived here, although I have yet to have a positive strep test) so the Nurse and Doctor said there wasn't really anything they could do. I explained the them that I haven't slept in 3 nights because of the acute pain in my throat. Nor have I been able to eat solid foods in as many days. Even drinking water hurts. I had to ask for a Mono test and pain medication as I have not been able to sleep due to the pain. I also had to ask for fluids since I have had a fever for a couple of days. None of his was offered to me, I had to ask for it. All in all the Staff here tonight is not doing their best. There is no bedside manner and they seem nothing short of annoyed that they have to treat me. Being that I have a $600 dollar co pay to come here and I am very sick, I can say I am deeply disappointed. This isn't the first time I have had these sort of problems with being taken seriously, and I honestly believe it has everything to do with being a young looking female. The charge Nurse in particular, a woman named Erica has been extremely rude and honestly quite mean. I tried telling her that she was being curt to me and that I felt extremely sick to which she made a comment about having a very sick patient in the other room that needed her. She genuinely seemed bothering that she had to help me... she even made me cry. She then told me I was crying because I wasn't getting what I wanted, as if I am a child in the first grade wrestling over a toy. She took no responsibility for her ill-mannered behavior. Also, if you are given any controlled pain medication you need to have a friend or family member with you, they won't administer the meds if you are calling an Uber. Something I just found out tonight. I will probably be switching to Duke Raleigh after this encounter. I can't continue to pay $600 to be disrespected. read more

I visited WakeMed ER at Falls of Neuse location. I requested my medical record for that visit. After I got the print out copy, I released that there was mistake - doctor wrote the wrong days of how long I had taken my previous prescription. I required the nurse and a staff member Sarah to update doctor to correct it. They said they would but not promise doctor would do. I explained that I need the record with right information. Sarah further took away my personel medical record and refused to give back to me after my several requests. Sarah stated she would not give back though it is my personnel record, refused to explain to me the reason and asked me to leave immediately. I explained to her it is my personnel medical record and I need it. She called police expel me out of ER without give me my personnel medical record anyway. As a patient, I have never been treated so rude and unreasonable. This is a violation to keep patient's private medical record by force. So frustrated that they treat patient in this way! read more

BEWARE of using Wake Med hospital and primary care services. You will be billed for tests and procedures whether you made the order or not. Furthermore, you are responsible to pay 100% of any insurance not covered services. For example, if doctor ordered blood work for a test procedure and your insurance does not cover, you are on the hook to pay for it. Their medical staff is not obligated to give you advance notice on insurance coverage details. If you dispute that you did not order the test, you are still on the hook to pay. They believe their doctors always right and you have no say. Needless to say, my doctor lied. The first one I ordered without knowing my insurance wouldn't cover. The second one, doctor ordered without my approval and I got stuck with the bill. This is the 5th month I'm sending my dispute. Collection department won't budge and remind you that you had signed the form in the new patient papers that stated you are obligated to pay balance due. read more

Went on a wed night at 23:00 and had an infection on my foot and I'm an oncology patient I can't have an infection. I was given antibiotics and told if it's spreads at all to come back. 2 days later it was a lot worse and stupid bitches said well MAYBE if you took the medication. Like these dumb ass people. It was very aggressive cellulitis and I needed IV antibiotics and I ended up going to Duke that Monday and I was admitted and it almost spread to the bone. Don't go there. This was peds and their asses still weren't understanding or helpful. read more

This is a hard review because I had such differing experiences between the waiting area and actually seeing the doctor. I went in with a migraine...nausea, head about to explode, the whole nine yards. I was so happy the waiting room was nearly empty thinking things would move fast. I was taken to triage within 15 minutes or so, but sent back to the waiting room for an hour and a half! Then when I was finally taken back to a room I waited 30 more minutes. At this point my pain was making everything excruciating. I called the nurse to see if they had forgotten me. About 20 minutes later the doctor came in. She was wonderful and things moved quickly and efficiently from there. I finally got the help and medicine I needed. My nurse and doctor were fantastic, once I finally got to see them! I would probably go to the big Wake Med on New Bern Avenue next time, but in a pinch, if you have lots of time to wait in the waiting room, this hospital isn't so bad. read more

Do NOT bring your baby here! I've been here before for myself and it's been OK, but tonight I brought my newborn baby girl because she's been congested and had cold-like symptoms for the past 3 days. Her fever spiked past 100.4 (code red for babies) and we brought her up because we live in Rolesville and it's the nearest hospital to us. To make the story as short as possible, they don't seem to have much experience in babies, specially newborns. They stuck my baby over 3 times only trying to draw blood and putting an IV, both arms, hand, and lastly decided to put the IV on her little foot. They had to collect urine, and I had to leave the room, the nurse had to use more than 2 tubes and kept poking in there, because she couldn't "find the right hole", keep in mind I'm talking about my 13 day old newborn. Last but not least, they had to do a LUMBAR PUNCTURE (draw fluid from spine with big needle) and I left the room before they even started because I wasn't going to be able to see my baby punctured like that, my fiancé stayed, apparently the doctor could not withdraw the fluid after more than 3 attempts at my baby's spine, all this after we had been here for over 5 hours! Watching our baby scream her head off, and knowing that we were going to have to be transported to Wake Med South after the suffering to wait for results because "they usually take a day, maximum two" according to the doctor, and they couldn't keep us here. All this because It turns out that the state of NC requires for babies not older than 30 days to go through a "full panel testing" when admitted with a fever. I'm sitting here with my family and this night doesn't seem to end. Please don't bring your baby to Wake Med North! Take it from us and our baby. read more
