I recently fell and fractured my ankle, requiring surgery. From the minute we arrived to WakeMed North until we drove away (1:30 pm until 8 pm) our experience was top notch! The quality of care was outstanding and the friendliness of every single employee we interacted with was amazing. The intake lady, Addy, was so kind and helpful. Regine the nurse who cared for me was kind and so warm. I was very nervous and she helped me feel more comfortable. The EKG nurse (I believe was Chantal/Cherene) was sweet, funny and made me more relaxed. Dr Rossi, the anesthesiologist, explained everything and was very professional and kind. The anesthesia nurse (a man, very kind!) was great. I don't recall his name because I was getting very loopy! Dr Correa my orthopedic surgeon was terrific. I met him earlier this week to schedule the surgery - he's funny, kind, and takes time with his patients. Overall, a great experience - considering this was a surgical procedure and I was a wreck. The care and concern by all staff was evident and so very appreciated. Side note - parking spaces very close to entrance, which is so helpful. read more

Have been going there for eight years and haven't improved at all. All they wanted to talk about was diabetes. They didn't care about my other issues. They just wanted to refer me to other doctors. They didn't do any surgery at that facility, so you had to go to another one in an ambulance. It's just a money racket. read more

Review of WakeMed North Hospital - Emergency Department I brought my wife to the WakeMed North Emergency Room around 5:00 PM due to severe shortness of breath and dizziness. She is pregnant, which made the situation especially concerning. Upon arrival, the front desk and triage staff were welcoming, and the triage nurse stated he was not comfortable with her vitals and would push her to the top of the board. Blood was drawn and swabs were taken in the waiting room, which initially gave us confidence that her condition was being taken seriously. Unfortunately, that is where the urgency seemed to stop. We waited two hours in the waiting room before being moved to a hallway bed, where we waited another 45 minutes before a nurse approached and asked what was wrong -- despite triage notes already being taken. After explaining again that she was pregnant and short of breath, we were told the doctor would come see her. Another 45 minutes later, a lab technician arrived appearing confused, stating she was there to draw labs. My wife explained she had already had blood drawn and pointed to the IV already placed. The technician said she needed to place another IV and draw more blood, seemed unsure whether she could use the existing IV, and left to "check." She never returned. Instead, another nurse later drew two more vials of blood from the original IV and left without explanation. Eventually, the doctor came in and told us my wife had the flu and that medication would be started. We then waited another 30 minutes before the original nurse returned, performed an ultrasound without explanation, said she needed to chart, and left again. She returned about 15 minutes later with discharge paperwork. When we asked about the medication the doctor mentioned, the nurse said she would check. She then informed us that the prescription had been called into our pharmacy, and that we could "start it tomorrow," even though it was now 10:30 PM. My wife was discharged in the same condition she arrived in -- still short of breath, dizzy, and without receiving any medication, breathing treatment, or symptom relief. Aside from bloodwork and an ultrasound, no treatment was provided to improve her condition before discharge. While we understand emergency departments are busy, the lack of communication, repeated confusion among staff, excessive wait times, and discharge without symptom improvement -- especially for a pregnant patient -- were deeply disappointing. This experience left us feeling unheard and unsafe, and it did not reflect the level of care we expected. read more

When I came in for emergency care, the discharge nurse explicitly told me I could return to have my stitches removed at no additional cost. I took them at their word, why wouldn't I? But after I came back, I was charged $$$$ with no acknowledgement that staff had made that promise. This is exactly the kind of experience that makes people distrust the healthcare system. It's not just frustrating, it's a breach of trust. I understand that hospitals are complicated and billing isn't always straightforward, but that's exactly why staff shouldn't be making promises they can't keep. A simple "check with billing first" would have been more honest and saved me a lot of time and money. Instead, I was blindsided. If you're treated here, get everything in writing, including assurance about costs. Learn from my mistake. What seemed like a courtesy can be a very expensive surprise. read more

Stay away from WakeMed and Dr. Ian Villanueva. I think what matters to them is to charge as much as possible, taking advantage of people's naivety. I think that people's health is the least of their concerns. On June 9, 2024, my 22-year-old son had a slight discomfort in his lower stomach, so he went to WakeMed North Hospital. There he told them that he assumed it could be appendicitis; a serious mistake because the hospital took it as a fact and told him he had to have an appendectomy: the cost of the emergency visit and the simple one-hour surgery (maximum) was $47,637.00 (and they charge double for some things, see image). If I could give this hospital a ZERO, I would. My grandmother was brought here in an emergency by EMS & I got a call from the ER telling me she had BONE CANCER from an X-RAY & would not do any follow-up testing to prove it due to her age!!! HE made the determination that because of her age, she didn't need to know if she really had it or not. They admitted her and even had someone from HOSPICE call me the next day!! How do they do that without me saying I agreed with it? I'm her POA. I do everything for her & they had those legal records. She had other issues going on that they couldn't figure out, so they transferred her to their main WakeMed location off of New Bern Ave so that they could have her bed for another patient. I refused to allow her to be discharged WITHOUT them proving that she had what they claimed she had. She was at WakeMed for over 2 months because we were fighting & I complained to every entity that I could about their unethical practices. Finally, after 2 months, they did the test I requested and, GUESS WHAT, she didn't have Cancer AT ALL!! They misdiagnosed her and was going to throw her away on hospice for nothing. Dealing with them was extremely exhausting, but I don't regret fighting for her. I'd do it again over and over again. Both locations have horrible nurses who'd rather sit around gossiping in the hallway than to be helping those who need their care. I even heard a group of nurses mocking some Hispanic patients that they had and laughing about how they were moaning in pain and that they couldn't understand them. I told the charge nurse. Of course nothing happened. Please beware!! Don't let these people misdiagnose you or your family. FIGHT & don't believe what they say as the gospel. They lie & they don't care about the elderly. From the doctors to the nurses to the social workers...they ALL need new careers away from people because they don't have common decency and lack the emotional intelligence to take care of others!!! read more

The wait time was incredibly unprofessional. Told us it would be seconds and it turned into half an hour when the patient was crippled over in pain. When finally brought back patient was put in a hallway when told they were going to have a room. Basically ignored for hours on end. Got to the hospital at 6:30am, and was finnaly discharged at 1:30pm. Staff member said that they had noticeably less patients and it wasent as busy as most days. Doctor and nurse said that patient would get helped in 30 minutes because of intensive pain but would wait up to atleast 2 hours. Nurse was completely incompetent and was very rough with patient, and had a noticeable short temper with a child. Nurses name is believed to be 'Marge'. She completely downplayed patients emotions and pain. Would be sat on her phone majority of the time when patients were supposed to be taken care for. Nurse tried to give addictive narcotics to a minor without informing her or the parent. Had to be asked what it was before put in IV and before every dose. Gave unnecessary medication just for the fact alone "she had already opened it". And remarked, "You're going to pay for it anyway". This lady had horrible bedside manner and made everyone uncomfortable. We shouldve not been there for over 6 hours, being told it wasent that busy. Nurses continuously roaming hallways back and forth just chattin it up. Doctor and Nurse informed us that the patient needed a full bladder to do a propper ultrasound but didnt provide any fluids whatsoever, Had to do almost everything by ourselves. The bathrooms also smelled like complete urine, patient had nausea and is very sensitive to the smell, made it all worse. read more

The labor and delivery team at Wake Med North is phenomenal. I gave birth less than a week ago and can say the level of care , professionalism, and knowledge was outstanding from the entire team. Make sure you are pre registered if possible and from there you will breeze right through check in. 10/10 recommend this hospital and especially the Blue Ridge OBGYN team. This is my second time having to deal with WakeMed North for my Dad. It was bad a couple of years ago and just as bad now. The bedside manners are atrocious. I have to pull teeth to get answers as to what's happening with my Dad and what is the plan/goal to improve his situation. The first thing they say is do you have access to his chart. I know how to read but I'm not a nurse or a doctor. The chart also does not show the plan. I have to google what's in the chart to find out what's happening. I never recommend going to this hospital. On top of that, I guess my Dad was not worthy of a doctor, he saw a PA who lacked professionalism and communication skills. read more

staff was a mix of impersonal, abrupt, unengaged, uncaring. I was ignored for long periods as staff walked by. I asked for crackers after 5 hrs of sitting in a recliner that didn't recline and didn't get them. i was cold, got a headache, back hurting for sitting so long. I asked for follow up on my discharge 45 min after I was told I could leave as soon as the paperwork was complete. that RN never got back to me despite being within sight. And despite wearing a mask, the final blow was Covid 2days later. terrible experience that could have been fine if anyone had bothered to engage, asked if I needed anything, keep me from feeling invisible ....common curtesy! read more

WakeMed needs to have digital version of vaccination record. I am not sure why the organization is so far behind in technology. If you want to travel abroad you need to have digital record not just on My Chart or paper records. The representatives do not seem to understand that. This is incredible. Wake Med North ER is a busy place that I found myself after urgent care sent me away with the wrong diagnosis. I found that the check in and triage staff were friendly and efficient. From there, you wait in the lobby until they call you back. Once I was called back to the emergency department, the room was private and had a small television. I met with the doctor quickly after I was called back. Then the tests and waiting started. I hope I do not need to return to an emergency room again. I liked this facility and staff. My symptoms were listened to and the appropriate tests were ordered. read more

Had my son at Wakemed Raleigh so I know they are capable of being competent, that being said I guess Wakemed North is where they send all the second, third and fourth tier doctors, PAs and nurses. Rude, negligent staff with horrible bedside manor and to top it all off, they gave me a pulse monitor with human feces on it. I'd rather drive the extra twenty minutes even in an emergency to ensure comfort and kindness. Edit: billing department is a train wreck. My boyfriend and I delivered our first baby, Easton, here 2 weeks ago. We had the best experience coming through the doors and being greeted at the front desk, through the triage, all the way through the delivery and post-partum care. I had been putting chemicals in my pool for the end of the season and ended up getting acid splashed in my eye. Though I took all the precautions noted on the internet, everything I read still said to seek medical attention. I went to the ER and they took me in immediately to triage and did all the eye testing to ensure that I hadn't done any damage to my eye. I was in and out in under an hour even though the waiting room had a good number of people waiting. I can't express how grateful I am that they took my incident seriously and took all precautions to ensure that I had not damaged my vision. Highly recommend! Terrible experience. I only had to wait a little over 2 hours to be seen so that wasn't horrible in the grand scheme of things. The doctor was extremely rude and decided that he knew exactly what was wrong with me. He wrote me a antibiotic prescription for an ear infection and I was sent on my way. I was told to give the medicine time and not to worry unless I started to lose my vision. He was completely wrong by the way. I really had shingles and ended up with Bell's Palsy a couple of days later. Thank you for nothing but a $1,500 bill and a paralyzed face from your blatant negligence Dr. Rude. I argued the bill and they decided that it was justified. I still have Bell's Palsy 6 weeks later and am now being robbed for $1500. This place really does add insult to injury!!! This message is for the actual delivery hospital and OB & Gyn services. I recommend the ER be separated bc it sounds like a very different experience - as it should be. The OBGYNs at WakeMed North are wonderful! I've delivered both of my children at this location and everything from customer / financial service, food and dining, nurse and physicians are great. If I was crazy enough to have a third child there would be no delay in selecting these physicians and this location to bring her another child into the world!! The respect my birthing Plan and preferences and are a joy to be around. So sad I'll only need to visit once a year now for my annual! They became family after back to back deliveries! read more

Cane in for high BP and diarrhea. The nurse Scott was Amazing. They took a test to see what was happening with my stomach and said to follow up with my primary Carr ASAP, what I set up the appointment for you the next day. When I called to asked about stool sample results it can take to 48-72 hours. If I pay to see pm PCP tomorrow she will have no result to make diagnosis on. They either need to stay the lab, or tell patients that the should wait for results before the results from labs... unless what can the PCP do? I'm a RN in a ICU and know everything can be do stat, even if it is a 34 hr turn over rate. They need to tell pt these things up front, so N8TNH8 can make a arrangements accordingly. read more

I've been coming to WakeMed for exactly one year for 2 separate visits for my annual exam. On my first visit, I was somewhat lost trying to find the OBGYN office. With the help from one lady, I was able to locate the office for my appointment. The building itself and the WakeMed campus are very new and clean. I love the feel I get from visiting this hospital. All the staff members (i.e. doctors, nurses, receptionists) I have interacted with so far in the OBGYN office are all friendly, professional, and sweet. Even the waiting lobby area is comfortable and welcoming. I don't feel any discomfort throughout my visit (I'm usually super content!!), and I plan to continue have WakeMed as my OBGYN :) read more

The new WakeMed Family & Women's hospital was a top notch birth experience with wonderful and caring nurse staff, amazingly spacious rooms, and decent food. Everyone we met, including the janitorial staff found in the hallways, were courteous and helpful, even excited to congratulate us on the birth of our 2nd baby. We have lots of family that wanted to be there and all were able to visit with us comfortably in the recovery room. We were surprised, pleasantly, with the birthday cake and sparkling juice for our daughter's birth. This is the hospital we will choose again if ever needed and will highly recommend to my friends and family! read more

This is a beautiful new facility that is open but still under construction with the building of a new hospital. Now they have an emergency department and physician offices. They have a comfortable waiting area and operate a pager system so that keeps things moving. They are somewhat understaffed and the construction will increase the wait time. This coupled with the number of people seeking emergency care who don't really need it can make for a long wait time. Expect an hour for triage and two or three to see a doctor. Once you get to treatment, the staff is exceptional. I visited here for a kidney stone and threat net ws top notch. This is a review for the brand new Women's Hospital. At the end of August, I delivered my first child here and it was everything I was hoping for with a high-risk hospital birth. The facility itself is brand new, with spacious and clean rooms. The staff was great. They answered my questions and offered advice in a caring, loving manner. Also important to note: I was impressed with the quality and selection of food for patients. The 'champagne' and birthday cake surprise was adorable and such a nice touch. They prefer for your newborn to be in room with you, as there is not a staffed non-NICU nursery. This was great during the day, but at night it was a little difficult to maneuver the baby post-c section when I was the only one awake. My apologies to the nurses I harassed when I couldn't reach the bed dials. It also didn't do much for my sleep, but again, the nurses were amazing and offered so much help. My only complaint (if you can even call it that) was after 5 nights of being in a hospital bed I was ready to sleep in something more comfortable. The couch wasn't overly comfortable either according to my husband, so be prepared. I have no plans for having another child, but would not hesitate to come here again if I did. read more

The worse experience I ever had in a hospital!!! I went to the emergency room because I felt SO BAD. And I spend 2 hours waiting just for a doctor to check me. I literally just preferred to leave to another emergency because I can't understand how they manage an "emergency" like that. I'm very disappointed and I will never go the that emergency again even when that one is the nearest to me. And the explanation that they gave me was "they are different sizes of emergencies" ok. But do I to spend to hours when I do have an emergency as well??? It doesn't make any senses. read more

Huge waste of time and money. More like a scam than a medical facility. Spent 2 hours there, racked up $4,000 in bills. Never actually saw a Dr. or received a diagnosis. Sent me for x-rays after I passed out inexplicably at work. No explanation for why that was needed. Billed $800+. A PA came in the room for less than five minutes, stated the obvious, and... billed another $800+. Room charge $1400+. Received no diagnosis, no treatment, just a series of unnecessary tests and a dismissal. The only thing they actually spent time on was making sure they got my billing info 4 different times. I've had to visit this ER multiple times because of my stomach disease. Each time I've visited I waited for no longer than ten minutes to be taken to triage where everyone was so accommodating to my needs and both times I was curled up crying in pain. After triage usually I was brought back within a minute. I was not an emergency patient so this was very nice. The nurses are very attentive and kind. The rooms are amazingly clean and private. A doctor came within 15 minutes and helped immediately. Both times I was out in an hour or less feeling much better. This is the ER to go to if you need help. They are not a trauma center so if your injuries are serious you'd likely be better at WakeMed's main campus or Rex. But WakeMed north is a wonderful hospital with many amenities for better health. So I unfortunately have had to go here a few times in the past year due to health issues. I have to say I haven't not been treated very well. With the exception of two doctors, everyone I have been treated by has been very cold and callous to me. I have even expressed that I don't feel like I am being taken seriously and the nurses and doctors have ignored me. I have even called the patient advocate after having a particularly bad experience. I don't think the doctors or nurses care about what it is like to be in pain, or sick, and be alone in the hospital. The last time I went I felt as thought they were rushing me out the door and I had to ask three times to speak to my doctor before being discharged.
