Scam warning! Wakefield and Associates is a scam company; they send out phishing letters to try and threaten people to pay them for fraudulent medical "debts". I recently received a letter demanding payment from them. First red flag is they didn't actually send it to my house; they sent it to my parents. Second was when I looked up the supposed company I "owed" and found it's only found in Knoxville, TN. I live no where near Knoxville, literally over 1,000 miles away, and have never been to Knoxville. If Southeastern Emergency Physicians charged my insurance, then it was fraudulent, as I have never been to their location or anywhere near it. The third proof that Wakefield is a scam company is the fact that their website attempts to install malware in the form of a browser add on. Any attempt to use the online chat directs to this malware. No legitimate company requires the installation of a browser add on; it's malware! DO NOT INSTALL ANY ADD ON FROM WAKEFIELD. Going further, there is no actual Southeastern Emergency Physicians LLC; the address I found is for Team Health; an actual company, though Wakefield has set up a different phone number and a website in case someone got suspicious. I thought the company name was suspect when I couldn't find it on Yelp. 100% of collection notices from Wakefield are fraudulent. read more

scam company used by urgent team. number in there is to wakefield and the other numbers are scam numbers. urgent escalation manager( michelle from corporate ) said i don't owe it. the company continues to harass me by text and phone and i do have all the numbers saved along with the text. i don't have co-pays due to secondary insurance. they need to be investigated. read more

This company was sent an outstanding bill from Hackensack Medical Center for transport for my wife. First I wrote a detailed letter to the hospital telling them that it was a necessity to use this but they are too lazy to make a billing adjustment. I spoke to Wakefield on 6/20/22 informing them of my wife's passing on 5/08/22, The associate verified this and said this is good enough. 4 months later I get another letter, which the access number is always wrong so you have to call, so I call today and get an obnoxious person. I explain to him that there is no estate as in NJ if the assets are jointly owned they pass to the spouse and I am not responsible for this bill He says I am responsible and will continue to contact me. I say if I get another one my lawyer will be filing a lawsuit against your company. scumbags. read more

If there was a 0 star I would put that instead. This company preys on people!! They are shisters!! My husband went to the ER after inhaling a toxic chemical. The bill we got after, we had made payment arrangements. Then 1 1/2 years later a collection shows up on my husband's credit report from Wakefield & Assoc.. We called them and the man told my that the charge was for the ER doctors charge. Well, it showed it twice now on his report just a week apart. So, my husband told him that the doctor's fee should be included in the ER visit as it usually is. The man at Wakefield agreed and said he was going to talk to his boss about having it removed. absolutely horrible company and people who work for them! I received one letter in the mail for a charge that insurance was covering 2 years after it was supposedly taken care of. they refused to give me any information about the account even though my name is on it and they are affecting my credit score. they refused to answer any questions or tell me what the debt was for specifically. even after the insurance agent said the bill was paid in full they insisted it had not been. absolutely horrible customer service. read more

I have a bill that was resolved in 2019 I've jumped through every hoop that they requested, including e-mailing, sending 2 written letters, calling excessively bill was paid in full in 2019 under a recorded message giving them all my check numbers never heard from them again until in January when it showed up on my credit report Again, took all the right steps to get this resolve this and once again have never heard back from them read more

my check got garnish on a bill that I believe I have already paid. The bill was from 2003. I don't jump jobs. I've kept the same job and just recently went back to my old job and my check all the sudden gets garnished. The bill is over 20 something years old. How can anybody find a receipt for that. The bill was for $429 and they ended up charging me about $800 there was no letters there was no phone calls they just let the interest build up the total amount due for the bill was over $1300. By the time this company got done with it. When I talk to them to ask them the account number for Blount Memorial Hospital, the woman proceeded to tell me that I owed more than what the court awarded because more interest has occurred when I went and paid my bill in full at the courthouse, they told me that they could not charge any more interest on that that was breaking the law, I have my receipt that says paid in full and if they go to send any more interest fees to the Blount county courthouse, they will deny it d read more

Completely unwilling to accept what payment I can afford because it doesn't match the percent they want. Sends bills to the wrong address so you don't know you have them until you're being served a civil summons. Not to mention I've already paid 2 accounts around $4,000 in lump sum checks, but can't take anything less.. pretty sure they should accept anything considering there's people out there thousands and thousands in debt who CAN'T AFFORD YOUR PERCENT! I was served with a court summons on an account that I was working toward paying at the doctors office. I called Wakefield & Assoc. and they told me that the court charges had already been added, but I would not have to go to court if I set up acceptable payments. I am on disability social security, but not wanting to go to court I accepted the terms. I made my payments faithfully for almost a year, and then I missed one. I found out that if you miss a payment, they do not send out another billing, they just turn it over to the legal department. Long story short - I was told this because I had called and tried to make my payment. The woman I spoke with was the rudest, ugliest, demon I have EVER talked to. I had her switch me to her supervisor, which turned out to be the legal department. I spoke with a young man named David which was both informative and helpful. He got things straight (which the afore mention DEMON could have done in the first place) and I made my missed payment and my current payment. I called today to make my monthly payment (early) and was met with another rude individual. It does not have to be this way. People are trying their best to do what they can to pay their bills. I was sent a bill that was never filed to my insurance and never received a bill in 2013. I called Wakefield and associates after receiving a warrant for an unpaid bill. They gave me information about the company that was filing the suit. I called them and my insurance and both stated they first ambulance never filed a claim. The lady at First call ambulance stated that they never filed my Cigna insurance but can't tell me why, but she did state that her company was just bought out in 2016. After speaking with her i called my insurance back and informed them of this, they stated they don't file claims 120 days pass, but if they would have filed they would have paid 100% if my deductible was met or 60-80% depending on the diagnosis code. I called Wakefield and associates to dispute before courts and the lady with the company told me that's what the court date is for (after I was already told to call their 1800 number to dispute before court). I've been to court twice so far and its been reset both days. I've offered to pay 40% and my court cost and the lawyer refused and rolled her eyes like a child. read more
