I don't feel it was well put together and the flavor profile was ALL spice. The tortilla was overcooked. The chicken tenders were average. We saw burgers and wish we would have gone that route. Delicious lunch today! We had the yummy spinach artichoke dip and hands down it was the BEST spinach artichoke dip we've ever had! Not sure if the chef adds a little beer to it but it definitely had a slight taste of beer and it was SO GOOD! We both ordered salads and they were so good as well! Chef salad with chicken for hubby and house salad with chicken for me. Very generous sizes, enough that we brought most of both home. Side order of homemade chips and they were very good. Our server was wonderful and we had a really lovely meal here. So glad we decided to come back again. Will definitely be back for more of that awesome dip! read more

Was looking for a good spot close to home to eat and saw this spot. Was not impressed at all. The pasta and shrimp dish I was severed was greasy with absolutely no flavor. The carrot cake had nothing resembling it to be a carrot cake. It was more of a spice cake. Best part about the place was the service. The hostess was very kind. I don't prefer giving bad reviews. Wakefield Tavern earned this one. We were greeted at the door and picked out our own seat which was awesome! It was 3:55pm and I asked our server if it's okay to order the 2 for $12. She said yes so I first asked if the turkey for their sandwich was made there and not lunch meat and she didn't know. She did offer to go to the kitchen but I said that' is okay because I wanted to get my order in before 4pm. Then I asked the soup of the day and she didn't know. So I made it easy and ordered the baked potato soup and a BLT. When I received my meal the piece of leaf lettuce was wilted and starting to brown. I definitely got a BLT with 2 overcooked pieces of bacon. Plus the bacon was cold. I asked the server for another piece of lettuce and she brought me back a better one. I checked the soup and it was cold. I used my fork to check it because I still didn't have a spoon. Our server warmed the soup and brought me a spoon. I really wanted to like my meal but the soup was watery and had no flavor. My sandwich would have been worth the $4.00 if it wasn't for the 2 tiny pieces of overcooked bacon. The bacon was burned in the soup too. I wasn't rude to the waitress because it wasn't her fault. The kitchen cooks and line manager let that food come to my table. We asked for pretzels as an appetizer and it was subpar! I remember the pretzels being bigger and the queso less runny. When you're charging $4.00 per pretzel and you get 3 to an order do a better job!! read more

My mom and I visited Wakefield Tavern today for a quick lunch. We are extremely cautious with Covid so we wanted to go somewhere low-key but GOOD We were greeted and seated upon entry as it was around 11:30am and it wasn't too busy at the time. Our waitress approached, took our drink orders, and asked if we had any questions. We placed our orders with her when she brought back our drinks. And within 10 mins or LESS our food was hot and on the table. My mom ordered the Shrimp Po Boy with fries. (I stepped away to wash my hands and by the time I came back the food was on the table and she had already taken a bite lol hence the no pic). She absolutely LOVED it ! Shrimp were fresh, plump, deveined and fried crispy. She had no complaints with her plate. I ordered the Shrimp Nachos Half Size. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! No complaints and so full of flavor. Overall Wakefield Tavern is one of the best places to eat at when you're in the Wakefield and Wake Forest area. Truly a hidden gem with great service and even BETTER FOOD. Unfortunately had an extremely bad experience here. I've come here several times because it was convenient to my home, but I have to warn ladies who attend this bar that if you are taken advantage of, the bartenders and owners will not stand up for you! I had a man purchase me several drinks and pour me more wine than I expected... the bartender, Olivia, kept serving the wine and allowing it. I went to the bathroom where the man followed me and took advantage of me. Shortly after I decided to drive home. I was never told I was "cut off" because how could I be? I wasn't the one buying. Since then, the man who I was with that night of the incident has been back several times without an issue. I called to speak the the manager over the matter and they passed me off to the bartender who was there that evening who was just completely rude and discriminating toward me over the man I was with. The beer list was decent, I went with an IPA. To start we chose the hummus appetizer, it was good but a little overpriced. Next we ordered the philly with fries for me and the patty melt with mashed potatoes for my husband. Overall, the food was average and the service was good. Have had the opportunity to dine here a couple times now and can highly recommend all aspects of the establishment. Lots of great food options so there's something for everyone (including gluten free substitutions), full bar and awesome beer selection with lots of local taps/cans. Everyone is always so pleasant and friendly and are able to provide educated suggestions, when asked. They have TVs for games and live music weekly. This has been my go to place for many years, but it's going be a long time before I come back. I went out to lunch with some friends yesterday to celebrate one's recovery who has been sick for many months. She ordered a patty melt and received a cheeseburger between two unheated slices of rye bread. When she politely pointed that out, the manager came over and started arguing with her that that was a patty melt. I literally showed him on Google that a patty melt was grilled and had grilled onions in it. He was extremely rude and very reluctantly, took it back and asked if she wanted something else. By the time her replacement order showed up everyone else had finished eating. He told us that he had comped her patty, melt in that he didn't charge for it, but he still charged her for the Philly steak. A friend of ours nicely picked up the bill and had to talk with him about the concept of comping someone's meal. Not once did he apologize both for the order or for the delay. In fact, he argued with all of us. Anyway, I used to go there at least a couple times a month, but that's not going to happen anymore. What a shame because it used to be a wonderful place. read more

We specifically chose Wakefield Tavern for the chicken pot pie. And we both agreed we will not return. It was $19 and the "pastry" was basically a 4" round biscuit rolled out approx 1/4" thick and baked such that we could hardly cut it with a fork and knife. It was just laid on top of the chicken filling. It didn't even look appetizing. Service was ok and we did not comment on the food since our assumption was it was prepared the usual way. The server didn't question why we didn't eat the crust. Afterwards we noticed Yelp shows the CPP as $16 with a photo and a previous reviewer said it was a flakey crust. Ours were not flakey. The chicken tenders are the best I've ever had in my life. They also know the secret, which is the dipping sauce / salad dressings! They obviously make everything homemade and the jalapeño ranch, regular ranch and blue cheese dressings are absolutely delicious! The service is always top-notch. If you call yourself a tavern- you better be able to make Reuben sandwich- nope- bread all soggy, no color whatsoever on the bread, looked liked they put unbuttered bread on a not so hot griddle. Tater tots? Nope can't make those either and that's a hard one to screw up since they come frozen in a bag- how to cook them wrong? Drop them in a fryer that's not hot enough so they absorb grease and taste disgusting. Home made chips? The staff was so accommodating and the variety of the menu really provides so many options - great appetizer options and food choices and the food is good. Great service too. Thanks everyone. The majority of the attendees enjoyed their choices but my wife and I had food that was way over seasoned - the polenta cakes and shrimp were very salty, so salty she didn't finish half and my Tavern Steak Sub was the same except for it was pepper.....the sub could have used a little more meat as well but the pepper was really too much. As soon as I told Husband I had seen a pic of the Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls with Homemade Queso here, I knew we would be going soon. Sure enough, the next day we were off at lunchtime to find it. And easy-to-find it is...in a strip center off Falls of Neuse. It was a Saturday and they weren't packed, but were doing a steady business. The place was quite comfortable, and our Server guy was great. We decided to share a few things. The Egg Rolls were a given. Side Caesar was for getting something green in us (barely, hah!). They have an interesting selection of quesadillas, so we opted to share the Southwestern one. We started with unsweetened iced teas (very good) and the caesar, which was a decent size for sharing, despite being the small version of it. Very cool and fresh with good-quality cheese. I let Husband eat the croutons since I was being "good" for a minute or two. But then the piping hot Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls were placed in front of us, along with two plates of Quesadilla. Yes, they were nice enough to split it for us. Love it when restaurants do that. One bite of the Egg Roll stuffed with shaved sirloin steak and cheese and peppers and onions...well, my first reaction was "this is very masculine". Yep. Rich beef and cheese deep fried and dunked in more cheese. 'nuff said. One and a half pieces of this was all I could handle, despite it being delicious. Soooo rich! Husband loved it, and said he would get it for his whole meal sometime. Definite macho-man's dream meal! The Southwestern Quesadilla was also delicious and rich, stuffed with grilled chicken, sausage, onions and peppers with a Guinness black bean sauce, pepper jack and cheddar cheese. Each of us got two giant wedges, along with salsa and sour cream. Favorite part for me was the grilled chicken that had a wonderful marinated flavor. Needless to say we were totally stuffed!
