It had never been ridden because the tire popped before we completed the assembly. They took the bike and claimed to have repaired the inner tube for $10 and assembled/reassembled the bike for another $100!!?? After taxes I owed a total of $116.80. I brought it home 3 days later and my son started to ride the bike and 15 minutes into the ride the back tire burst again. I called the shop and they said they would have to charge me (again) for any additional repairs needing to be made. They said it could be a number of things and I asked how that would be possible if they had checked it as thoroughly as they claimed to the first time. I'm out $116 plus whatever the cost of any additional repair fees they want to charge me. They did not offer a refund or a guarantee of their work. I am extremely disappointed and my son is very sad that he still can't ride the gift of the first adult bike that his grandparents got him.

My potatoes were likewise fine, but I wasn't sold that either was worth the cost or the wait. The chai latte I really came for had a peppery kick and wasn't sweet at all, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on one's perspective. It pains me to say this, because I'm a long-time customer. But both the merchandise and the service…read morehave declined significantly over the years to the point that I will never be going back and recommend no one else do either. Back in March, I had a tube replaced that within a couple of weeks had blown. The good thing is, since this kept happening with them, it finally taught me how to replace my own tubes. The other good thing is that I could see how cheap the Bishop's tube was quality wise compared to the tube I bought for myself on Amazon. The other good thing is that on Amazon, I also found a great digital tire gauge/pump on Amazon to help take care of future issues. I immediately realized that one source of my tube blowouts was that the rather handsomely priced tire pump/gauge I had bought at Bishops years earlier was defective/inaccurate. So my bad for over-inflating. But their bad for selling crappy merchandise at inflated bike store prices. More recently, the crank on my bike broke (left pedal fell off as the hardware gave way). Not easy getting back five miles on one pedal, but did, and took it to Bishops for repair. They replaced the crank. Less than a month later, the left crank shaft falls off, again while I'm on the bike trail. This time at least I was able to screw it back in, since I had the necessary hex tool kit and the hardware wasn't completely broken. It was still making a grinding sound, which it had done before the failure. I took it back and told them I expected it to be repaired properly. The woman said the service manager would take a look. I still haven't heard back a few hours later. But after giving them until tomorrow morning, I'll go collect the bike one way or the other, take it Montgomery Cyclery, and deal with refund issues through other channels. Regardless, my days of doing business with Bishops are over forever. This saddens me, because it is a longstanding institution, oldest continuous operating bike shop in the U.S. But, hey, I'd stop doing business with the Wright Brothers if they kept continuously messing me over as well. Stay away.

I recently got back into cycling after a hiatus and purchased a used hybrid bike that no longer…read moreshifted properly. I had used Bishops in the past, and since I work in Milford, I dropped the bike off and was told they would do a tune up, and remove and clean the trigger shifters/replace cables and that would solve the problem. 2 weeks and 180 dollars later, I pick the bike up on my way home and go out riding the next day. The shifters still did not work. Thumb triggers just went to nowhere when pushed. Called and they said to bring it back up. I pointed out to the tech that judging from the dust around the assembly, it had never been removed from the bike. He looked at my ticket and told me they would take care of it. Surprisingly the next day they called (Saturday) and I again picked up the bike on my lunch break. No apology, but they said if they didn't work that we could replace the shifters. Uhm. didn't they test them? Next morning I go riding. The shifters are working! But... they were put on in such a way I couldn't get my fingers into the top trigger by sliding as they were too close to the brake. And on top of that, there was a sticky substance on the bike seat. I wasn't paying much attention and wasn't too concerned, but when I sat down I found I literally became glued to the seat. When I got off the bike, the top layer of rubber came off and stuck to my pants. The seat was ruined. It was an old cheap seat. I didn't really care, but what an inconvenience. Stuck it back in my hatchback and it sat there until they opened Tues morning. I wheeled the bike in, and asked to speak to someone about my experience. The young female tech promptly adjusted the triggers. I calmly told them about my seat. I explained that this was my third time back and expressed concerns about the quality control there. How does a bike leave the shop without the main issue being fixed, then with shifters assembled so that they are unusable? I asked them how I could trust that I actually got the "tune up" services that I paid for. I pointed out that little things, like my downturned front reflector, weren't even properly adjusted during the safety tune up (aren't they supposed to go over everything?) and that if they couldn't be bothered to take the time to do that, how was I supposed to have confidence in the other tune up services and adjustments? The three employees just stared at me. No apologies. No reassurances. Silence. Until one guy said only this "we didn't spill anything on your seat." Ok, I said. But it wasn't like that when I sat on it last time and it was only here and the back of my car... They continued to just stare at me. No offer to help me find and purchase a new seat, no apologies for my three trips, no rebuttals to my quality control concerns, no offer of compensation for my hassles. Ok, I say, I just wanted to let you know I'm not happy with the service. I slowly turned my bike around and went out. The entire experience was unbelievable. This shop seems to have serious issues with quality control, customer service, and overall accountability. I'm so disappointed. Bishops when my pal Chris L. used to work there was a high quality establishment and it's a shame it's gone so downhill. Please if you come here, check their work in the parking lot. If I'd not gone off site the two times I picked up the bike and test rode it, I would have avoided a lot of hassle and their calling me a liar about a 10 dollar seat.
