Bicycle geniuses: you can find them here. After weeks of riding on squeaky brakes, I decided to visit the professionals. Reser is located right across the street from the infamous Pepper Pod. The retail entrance is located along Monmouth Street, but if you need maintenance, just pull around to the side on Seventh. The repair shop has a door in the rear. "My brakes are squeaky and I need air in the tires," I announced to the mechanic. I held my breath, expecting there to be a long queue of other bikes ahead of me. "That's all?" the mechanic smirked. The mechanic propped my bike up on a lift and proceeded to install new brake pads on both tires. He brought the old pads over to show me what was wrong. The rubber had hardened and the tread was worn down. He then showed me what a difference a new brake pad looked like. Fifteen minutes later, I was on my way with a fully-repaired bike. The mechanic even loaded it back into my car for me. The cost? Only $25.00 Have a larger bike problem? Reser fixes those too. They will strip a bicycle down to the frame to get it repaired. Another customer in front of me had an extensive tune up and bought a new tire, all for $65.00. Very reasonably priced, and with friendly staff members that clearly love their job, Reser is a must for your bicycling needs. read more

Great staff. They are passionate about making sure you love your new ride ..and will continue to ride. They are professional and personable and will not steer you wrong. They are not commissioned based and don't try to send you off with a bike. They listen and figure it out with you. I hadn't been on a bike in over 20 years and now I get on whenever I can. Simply said, it's a community place and you get addicted to the whole package. If you don't learn something new and feel special, then you are not paying attention. Also, the coffee is beautifully crafted and they serve homemade goodies made with quality ingredients. Sam and Jimmy are sweet and very knowledgeable. I love the conversation at the coffee bar. I consider him a talented businessman, and that shows up all over his shop. On several occasions, I've window shopped their store and Jason in particular has always taken time with me and answered my many questions. I must admit, I do on occasion go to Performance Bike. Then I come to Reser and realize what a bike shop should be. Their customer service is simply the best. Every employee is incredibly helpful and they don't talk down to you simply because you don't know how something works or what something is called. The selection is nice for their space, PB does have more in terms of merchandise but Reser only stocks quality gear so you know when you're purchasing something they stand behind the product. Their prices are a bit higher than PB, but it's definitely worth it for the service. On my most recent visit I went looking for a helmet (I lost mine, whoosh, gone) and they didn't have what I wanted in stock. They led me to a laptop and I got to choose the color and model of the helmet and they ordered it for me and told me it would be about a week. Then Jason (I think it was him) asked me if I was helmet-less. I told him "yes, unfortunately" and he walked into the back and came out with a helmet, told me to bring it back when I come to pick up my order and to be safe on the road. They truly care about their customers and they've earned my business, I will always come to Reser for whatever I need. read more

I was in the market for a comfort / touring bike. I had looked online but knew I needed to get in and actually get fitted for one. I am not a bike expert, but the staff at Reser was able to match me up with a perfect bike. John pulled a couple out and went over the different features and we decided what I needed. A couple of months ago my car broke down and the repairs were more expensive than I could afford so I had to get rid of it. My downstairs neighbor donated an old broken down commuter bike to me, but in its state it was unridable. I took it to Reser and the mutton chop guy who works at what I thought looked like the bicycle genius bar was really nice to me. At first he thought I might need to come back another day but as soon as he saw a flinch of disappointment in my face he offered to do it right then and in just a couple of hours it was ready to go. I thought it would be expensive but it was well under $100, he even replaced the horrible seat I had for almost nothing. All of the people who worked there seemed really cool and thanks to Reser I now have a way to get around town and they definitely have a loyal customer. Reser saved my ass. When I decided to bicycle to work every day on my used Green Iguana, it hadn't been properly serviced in years (it really still hasn't). On my way home from downtown one evening I realized the front tire I had inflated that morning was more that just low, it was flat. after locating the earring sticking out from the dry rotted tire I called Reser from the ballpark area and proceeded to walk the rest of the way to their Newport location. They talked me up to new tires without much of a fight on my part but the price was reasonable and they service was quick. I'm not a bike geek so I often find myself feeling looked down upon but the shop is close, well stocked and they know bikes. Last time I was there I bought myself a helmet, a new seat and a holder for a water bottle. The guy helping me out was pretty polite and put the seat and bottle holder on quickly. Take a second to look at the literature and stickers they have and realize just how passionately Reser is involved in local bicycle clubs. They are certainly one of a kind. The store is currently located in a building that used to be a bank. Visit them at this location soon, they will be moving down the street and those beautiful safe doors in the back will not be a part of the new decor. read more

I ordered online from Reser a month ago - a chain, tubes and other stuff. Got a call the next day from a guy checking in on the tube type as it didn't really match the chain I had chosen, he did a logic check on what bike it could be for and was concerned. Turned out I had ordered the wrong chain for my bike, wrong tubes, and I needed some other parts. All this because he bothered to call me and to double check my order. That is pretty cool. I was a ew cyclist when I went into their store for the first time and they treated me with all of the patience in the world. This place is great if you need a quick repair or are in need of some gear and don't feel like ordering online. My only complaints are that they're a bit overpriced and are always trying to oversell. I wanted a 'beginner' bike and was offered a racing model road bike for around $5k. Montgomery Cycley up the road in Cold Spring is a nice alternative if you don't mind driving a few minutes out of the way. Worst bike shop in town... if your looking for people that appreciate your business and treat you with kindness!! We bought 2 bikes were excited to pick them up. Waited around to finally be greeted with someone that had a horrible attitude. After getting there to pick them up 1 had a noticeable scratch on it. We asked what they would do about it they said nothing we can sell these. We were even considering upgrading the bikes and instead walked away because of the attitude we decided they were not going to be a place wanted to deal with in the future. $1400 that we can spend elsewhere and be appreciated and respected for bringing business. I'm quite disappointed to write that I suffered what I consider to be a poor customer service experience from this organization. I find it very frustrating that the salesperson that I was working with was the owner of the organization. As we were unable to come to terms, I took my business to another local bike store. After taking the bicycles into Reser a number of times for service and receiving unsatisfactory results, I spent approximately $200 at another local bicycle shop to get my two bicycles assembled to the new organization's working specifications. As such, I no longer have what I believe to be a negative riding experience. There are many other options to consider when choosing to purchase a bicycle in the tri-state area. While I fully believe in providing patronage to local organizations, this isn't one that will continue to receive my financial support. read more

Not a bad store, but not the best. There's a good selection, the prices are ok, the staff was friendly enough, but asking for my personal info for one transaction is a bit much. However, when I went to purchase something, one guy putting up inner tubes didn't even turn around to acknowledge me, and I had to wait a bit before someone else came out from the back to ring me up.
