Watch out for their draconian cancellation/change in appointment policy--they charge $50 if not done over 48 hours in advance. I called over 30 hours in advance but they were going to charge me $100 for changing my two kids' appointments. So I tried to make it in time for the originally scheduled appointment, but we didn't make it within their 10-minute grace period, which is why I wanted to reschedule in the first place. They were kind enough (sarcasm) to waive one of the $50 fees for one of my kids. Other than the convenience of the location of this office, there is no reason to go here. We will be taking our insurance funds elsewhere! read more

10/22/2025 11:09am Our family has been with Dr. Walden Yu's office for over 14 years. My kids have grown up seeing this dentist, and we've always appreciated the care provided over the years. Unfortunately, my recent experience left me feeling incredibly disappointed and unvalued as a long-time patient. I called to schedule an appointment for my son, only to be told I had a $100 cancellation fee on my account from 2024. While I understand having policies in place, I expected that after more than a decade of loyalty, there would be some flexibility or at least a reasonable discussion. I offered to pay the fee at the time of the appointment (as my debit card had been lost and a new one was on the way), but they still refused to schedule my son. I asked to speak with Dr. Walden Yu directly but was told he does not speak with patients. I then spoke to Dulce in management, who informed me she is the person in charge and there was no one else I could speak to. That response made it clear that our long-standing relationship with the office held no weight. Ironically, I've had to show up in the past for scheduled appointments only to find out the doctor wasn't in for unforeseen reasons. I was never compensated for my time or gas--and I didn't ask to be--because I understood that things happen. But when it's the other way around, the same understanding wasn't extended. It's clear the office is doing well enough that losing two long-time patients doesn't seem to matter. Sadly, after all these years, we'll be taking our dental care elsewhere. I rarely write negative reviews but I felt compelled to warn people. I'm sure he's a great dentist, but he seems to be a great businessman as well. On our first visit for my daughter we left with a $6,700 Treatment Plan. He recommended filling a cavity, sealant, and addressing grinding with a customized fitted contraption for thousands of dollars. However, when I showed it to our old dentist she couldn't believe it. My daughter has ZERO cavities (nothing that even looks like one), does NOT need sealant, and has a RETAINER which prevents grinding (plus very little sign that this is happening consistently). Get a 2nd opinion for expensive treatment plans. read more

I had to find a different dentist for my kids since our insurance company changed the coverage and found this dentist nearby. We were there for regular cleaning, and the doctor confirmed me that there would be no charge. I received a call saying that I had an unpaid balance for sealant and x rays. Also, they gave me a treatment plan for both of my kids for over $5,000. My kids had never had a cavity, and they go to a dentist regularly. I don't trust this dentist and will never go back. I would like to take my time write a review for any new patient going to receive treatment or thinking about receiving treatment at this dentistry. Overall I have nothing bad to say about all the staff members from the front desk, x-ray techs, hygienist and the dental providers. They are all very friendly and helpful about answering any question and concerns. With that being said I would like to speak on behalf of anyone thinking about using Anesthesia as the mode of care for you or your child. Please please before moving forward with this mode of care call and ask about it to your insurance company to see if your covered. Be as detailed as possible, provide the type of dental procedure not just the codes that will be done because some companies only cover specific dental treatments such as oral surgery, gum treatments (very invasive care) for it to be justifiable otherwise be prepared to pay out of pocket $$$$. So remember get a second opinion, call your insurance company and provide detailed information of the kind of treatment being advised and if it will be covered (not just CODES). In my experienced I called my insurance company and provided the codes to the treatment which was covered but the method of treatment (sedation) was not. The dentistry affiliates with a 3rd party Anesthesia crew. I called my issuance company and they asked me what kind of treatment was your family member receiving? I told them and provide the codes which they confirmed what is covered (fillings, crowns..) However, the mode of treatment (IV sedation, nitrous gas, local numbing) are specific to the type of treatment such as (oral surgery, or any gum procedure). I hope this can and will be of assistance. He started with no room for new teeth to come in and me thinking he would have to have extractions to absolutely having no extractions and perfectly straight teeth. My daughter is right behind. This dentist scarred me for life. WORST experience of my entire life. Never ever go here. I have severe dental trauma and anxiety now.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I had the unfortunate displeasure of going to this dentist office last month, due to exp excruciating tooth pain. The only enjoyable exp was the representatives, dental tech(s), Renee. A few other staffers presented smiles but Walden, I don't know if he is lacking bedside manners which is apart of any service someone in every part of the medical field NEEDS to be effective at their job OR he doesnt give a care OR he is BIAS! By the look of the interior office U could tell they mainly treat children. I discovered this when I went to my appt. I didn't care. As long as the treatment was more than well and they offered good to great customer service I would have continued visiting this office for my dental needs. Walden examined my tooth. He told me he had to refer me to a root canal specialist as he did not perform the kind of root canal I seemed to require. He prescribed antibiotics and sent me on my way. Mind you, he said he would refer me to another facility, UCLA dentist program, so they could exam my tooth and we go from there. The man didn't give me a referral which was one of the requirements needed to register with UCLA school of dentistry. Plus, when I asked for a ibprohen prescription. Walden acted as though I was asking for opium! We literally went back forth about the Ibprophen script for a good 8-10 minutes! He kept suggesting that I buy the medication over the counter as I kept saying the otc version is not as effective, for me. I asked him what was his issue??!! Why is he refusing to help a patient who is exp sever pain?? I also, wondered if he was that way with ALL his patients or just the ones who looked like me, Black American??? Why was he giving me such a hard time with a simple script for ibprophen???! It's been a whole month. Walden nor has anyone one on his staff reached out to me to see if I was able to get an appt with the facility THEY referred me to. And, no. UCAL NEVER responded to emails, phone calls. I don't know why Walden refers people to UCLA and there is NO WAY to communicate with them or there was no way for ME to communicate with them. I also, called Walden's office to ask for assistance in contacting UCLA dentistry. They claim that they didn't have any way of contacting the facility they referred me to. How is that even possible??? Wouldn't they communicate with UCLA in regards to the patients they referred to them? As I said, idk what's up with this office. But if you require great bedside manners from your doctor/dentist, Walden is not the one. Idk how he is with children but he should be trained to accommodate ALL people and all ages. I suggest you look for another office. Trust, they are out there. I found another office that assisted me in a time of great need! Walden treated me like I was an intrusion not a potential new patient. When I mentioned that I was LOOKING for a dentist office when he gave me a hard time with the ibprophen script, his response was insulting! I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. read more

I have to say the people work there are nice. But the doctor would exaggerate the condition. For example, he checked my 2 years sold daughter and identified she would be over bite. Recommend to see orthodontist but turn out my daughter has no issue when visit other dentist. He gave us periodontal maintenance even after 6 months deep clean instead of the preventative procedure, which is fully covered by insurance. We have to pay as the periodontal maintenance only allowed to perform within 6 months after deep clean. He also recommended us several times to make expensive mouth guard to avoid grinding that on other dentists mentioned to us. Will never ever visit him again read more

I remember taking my daughter to her first appointment at another location in Culver City right down the street and I only knew it wasn't the best office till her next appointment. They had no follow up appointment. They didn't text you or call you to remember an appointment you made 6 months ago. When they called me they were so rude and just hang up. I was like I'm never going there again. But this place was so so nice from the beginning and helpful. My daughter had a great time she told me today and she's only 4 years old. They sent home with her a folder with detailed information about what they did that day and further information for the further which I really appreciated. I'm excited to take my daughter back ! While the office is nice and my kids liked it, especially the toys in the lobby and overhead TV screens, I cannot recommend this dentist. My experience with Dr Yu is the same as the other reviewer's here who wrote about unnecessary and overly aggressive treatments. I took my son there when he was 3, and everything was ok. 1 year later, 11 cavities discovered. At least some of them were certainly present and partly our fault as we let him brush his own teeth. I could see one cavity myself. However, Dr Yu recommended filling all of them and using the gas to make our son relax. Not only the bill would have been in thousands, that is a lot of stress and future discomfort for the child. When asked if we could manage the issue with better brushing, flossing and vitamin/mineral supplementation, he said that no and it would definitely get worse. When asked if we could manage until the time the permanent teeth replace baby teeth, he said something that made no sense to me - that the cavities would "jump" to permanent teeth. We declined the treatments and diligently brushed our son's teeth. On follow-up appointments, same 11 cavities were noted and there were continuous offers to fill them. After 2 years of this, we went to see another dentist (the one we, both parents, go to and trust), she told us our son's teeth were fine and nothing needed to be done. We then took him to yet another, highly-rated, pediatric dentist in Santa Monica, who told us the same. His cavities are no bigger than before and seem to cause no discomfort. And now his permanent teeth are coming out. In addition, our daughter was diagnosed with cavities at the age of 2 by Dr Yu. A dozen cavities, and again I could see few of them, so the diagnosis was at least partly true. He recommended filling a dozen cavities using general anesthesia for over $2K. Fearful of the aggressive treatment and the anesthesia more than the bill, as well as remembering what happened to our son, we went to another dentist for a second opinion. The recommendation there was to brush and floss and, optionally, apply a special liquid to some, more pronounced cavities, that turns them jet-black, but stops the cavity progression (you can find information about this treatment online; it is in use in Japan for 10 years and only recently became available in the USA). We did that with a couple of teeth. Problem seemingly solved, No anesthesia, drilling and 2-thousand dollar bills. So Walden Yu might be ok if your kid's teeth are perfect. Otherwise, at least get a second opinion. read more

You MUST switch to this Doctor! The girls: Graciela, Dulce, and Grace are the ones at front to help u and their love and attention makes u forget about that Pre-discomfort to deal with dental work. They are Amazing w special tact for kids. Dr. Yu is just the best! He doesn't rush to see his patients because he cares. His intervention saved my son to hv his 3 front teeth removed and one of mine from having a root canal after being examined by UCLA Professor at the School of Dentistry. After 5 years we are still with the best: Dr. Yu, Dr. Mae, and Dr.LeeAnn. They are all like a family to us. Dr. Yu is a great dentist. He is always kind, patient and thorough with both my children. My family has been coming to his offices for over 7 years and my children couldn't be more comfortable with a dentist. My children's oral hygiene is great, and I owe much thanks to Dr. Yu. The staff in the office are always bubbly and friendly with the children, making it super easy to get treatments done. The facility has tv monitors overhead for children to watch during their treatments, and there are ongoing contest with incentives to keep kids brushing!
