From volunteers to the Sheriff's Office, they got you in, parked, guided to the entrance, kept safe, and made sure you got back to your vehicle via golf carts. We didn't ride any rides as the older we get, the more fragile we think we are lol. The carnival games? I could probably beat them but I wasn't going to let them take my money for a huge stuffed animal that I really didn't need. What we REALLY came here for was the food. My coworker told us, even drew up a map, about where the best vendors were and we made sure that we hit all of the spots. He said he gets the Pickle Ranch Pizza every single year from the specific vendor over by the foodie garden and loves it so much. Sounds odd, but when I tried it I actually liked it. There was another vendor around and down the corner that also had it but for $2 more. He also let me know about the Sweet Tea and/or Lemonade vendor that adds Tajin so I had to get one of those. Didn't realize that it was a frozen drink which made it even better. The "itinerary" also included the candied nuts from The Almond Tree, Amish Donuts from the famous Peachey's Baking Company ( which had a long line so you know they're good), and Tacos from La Taqueria. All fire. Off "itinerary" were the Lobster Roll (good but pricey), the Deep Fried Cheesecake (meh), the Hot Sauces from the Angry Goat Pepper Company (the Serrano, Cilantro, and Chive sauce is now my #1 favorite sauce), the Lemon Lavender Marinade from Barbara's Kitchen Jams (guy was so nice and I'mma sucker for Lavender. gave us some good recipes as well). No animals for us this year, we were beat. Gonna need to come here again.

It was funny having pigs under the house sleeping. I sat on the porch and listened to them snore, it was a riot. I've never heard a pig snore. The very best part was the look on my sisters face when she got to do the cow cuddle with the highland cows. It was a special surprise for her. Thank you Elaine for making our visit wonderful. Whether you want to paint canvas, custom wood cutouts, they do resin pour trays and coasters, diy fairy gardens. Basically if you see it on Pinterest they likely have the supplies to help you make it. I've been wanting to try resin for a really long time and they were great with showing us the process. They have tons of colors and add-ins to choose from like glitter, glitter flakes, Mika powder, etc. Then when we finished we leave it and they add handles to it so its a usable tray. While we were working on that another party was painting a large customized welcome wood sign and a party was doing the splatter room. I like that its a place where you can go with a group and each do your own craft vs a class where you're all making the same thing. Once you're in there, it's just a blast--literally throwing paint on the canvas, the walls, and maybe a little on yourself too. It's messy in the best way, and weirdly therapeutic. You can also use their Alexa to play music of your choice and make it a fun vibe and have your own mini party. I really liked that you get to take home your canvas afterward, it's such a cool keepsake. You wait 24 hours to come back and once it is fully dry you can take it home. It's not something I'd do all the time, but for a creative, out-of-the-box experience, it's totally worth it. Highly recommend if you're looking for something playful and a little different to do in Gainesville. I love that they have so many options such as acrylic projects, string projects, painted glasses and other DYI experiences. You can set an appointment and come in at your reserved a lot. The owners can help accommodate whenever you want to do in the area. From biking to canoing. This is a great place to have a rustic wedding, take a boy scout troop, travel with your horses, whatever event you can think of. So we missed a year of the fair because of the pandemic, but it has returned for 2022! With the…read morereturn comes a new location as well, as Alachua County has sold off the old fairgrounds by the airport. The new location off of Archer road near Haile Plantation has some things to be desired, but for a temporary location it wasn't so bad... at least, the fairgrounds themselves weren't that bad. The layout of the fair at the new location is different from the old two-lane model that was used at the airport. Now it is more of a quadrangle approach, with one quad assigned to vendors where you can buy all kinds of really expensive things that are half the price on the Internet, one quad assigned to food, one to the jousting field, and the final one assigned to the living chessboard and SCA fields. This actually presents a problem, because the location is the site of the old YMCA baseball fields, and the fences for the fields are still in place, creating barriers for a number of the areas and preventing the flow of people from one area to another. In addition, no longer is there a draw of people past some of the areas that they would normally have been drawn past in order to get to the jousting fields, which means that the SCA and living chess area had a lower flow of patrons, which is too bad because the living chessboard had its best year ever. Parking was also an issue, as the dirt road leading to the parking was rutted and kind of scary, particularly for those with lowered vehicles. Hopefully your suspensions are in good working order! Traffic to the fair is also an issue, with the line of traffic backing up along Archer Road all the way to the Interstate at a couple points during the day. As it is near Haile Plantation, a number of newer housing developments are in the area as well, and the added traffic was not a welcome thing to people living in the area, as could be witnessed by some signs along the road as you worked your way to the parking lot. It would be very surprising to see the medieval fair occur again at this location. As for the fair itself, it is about the same. Most of the same performers and vendors were there, and the horses did their thing by charging back and forth across the jousting field. Good times for those that want to see a good show and buy some expensive trinkets.
