I came in looking for candy and the aisles were almost empty, a few minutes later a woman came in with her shopping bag and grabbed all the candy she could put in it, when I went to the counter I mentioned it to the security officer and he said there is nothing he is allowed to do about it. While I was telling him about the lady robbing the candy aisle a man walked in and cleared out the red bull display by the register in clear sight of the security officer. The security person said I see him but I can't do anything. So Is everything in the store free now? ?? read more

This store is in a superb location. It is easily accessible and very convenient. The shelves are only semi stocked and the employees are friendly, but not very knowledgeable. There is plenty of parking available. With the right management, this store could come back to its former glory. Considering its proximity to downtown New Haven, it is a gem waiting to be rejuvenated with the proper, prompt attention. read more

I'm from Middletown, CT, so with that being said I was shocked to see the amount of items that had security devices on them in addition to the items locked inside their cabinets. Apparently there's a theft issue in this area. Fast forward I did get ask for assistance from an associate in the health and beauty section. She was polite and helpful. I go to the register with a legit gift card for Walgreens, in which the cashier tells me that there is nothing on the card and I would need to add funds. To me this was quite strange considering I just checked the balance prior to entering the store. In my opinion, I think the cashier was trying to scam me for my card or wanting me to addd funds so she can pocket the cash. Considering the amount of people in line I just paid cash and kept the gift card and exited the store, I recommend the cashiers be watched more than the actual shoppers. I would probably give them another chance and will hope my next experience turns out more positive. If there was another pharmacy in my area close to where I live, I would go there...the pharmacy techs or whoever answers the phone has a nasty attitude. I am not comprehending why or what's wrong with their staff, but I would not get my prescription filled at this location if I had another choice. The sad thing about me leaving this review is it will not get seen, and nothing will be done about the poor quality of service...the pharmacy tech probably will continue working without being reprimanded for his poor quality of customer no-service. Disaster. You'd be lucky if it was only messy. The shelves are half empty and surly employees stuck shelves smack in the middle of the day. The Pharmacy has one employee, and generally a line of 15-20 people, no joke. Same line whether you have a question, need a vaccine, or are dropping off a prescription. You'd think there would be a separate line to pickup a prescription, right? Nope, same line! I saw a dozen people wait an hour, only to walk away with nothing. Manager didn't apologize. Not only does no one answer the phones there, But after hours of calling & getting hung up on for two days, multiple times, The girl who finally answered was very snippy & very snotty! I can't even believe I'm adding another update, but this bears sharing: last week, I stopped in after work and before getting on the highway and there was a woman brushing her teeth in the parking lot. Full sized tube of Colgate* + toothbrush but no water. She deserved 5 stars for caring about dental hygiene, but NEGATIVE five for doing it dry. *it may not have been Colgate. I've visited this location for the past two years. Staff usually cannot be bothered to help. I recently tried calling to see if they have a particular item in stock. The staff member picked up the phone and immediately hung it up without answering. I tried calling back and the same thing happened. Seems like they'd rather not answer calls and help customers, and just pick up the phone so that it starts ringing. What a shame. read more

The pharmacy is beyond slow and not communicative. I had a prescription denied by my insurance and they never notified me. When I called and double checked that they had the right fax number for my doctor, they claimed they faxed them for authorization but the doctor never got it. When I called back again a different employee told me they couldn't fill the prescription because it was a specialty med and they can't fill those. Again, no notification, I had to call. Now I just had surgery and my partner waited for two hours after my surgery (when the meds had already been requested two hours prior to that.) Don't go here if you need anything within a reasonable timeframe, and don't go here if you expect any customer service. Do better Walgreens! read more

I give this Walgreen's five stars for a few reasons. Number one, it is a 24 hour store. This means if I have to run in on my way to work at 530am, that I can. The pharmacy is 24 hours as well. The staff there(although high turnover rate) have always been good to me. Very large parking lot, sometimes there are knuckleheads looking for change. read more

I had a question on my prescription and he was so rude and told me he's been a pharmacist for 30 years blah blah and that the medicine my doctor and I wanted doesn't exist. Not a nice person at all!! Absolutely the worst pharmacy in Connecticut. Constantly have the prescriptions mixed up, theres always some missing and they never admit or fix their issues. The workers are constantly roaming on cellphones checking facebook and tiktok instead of handling customers. This place should just be shut down. The management is terrible at keeping the workers working. It takes about 20 minutes of standing twiddling my thumbs with no one in line except me for them to finally see me, obtain info and get the prescription they literally just called me for. The Walgreens on York street in New Haven may not be anyone's go-to shopping destination, but it's open 24 hours so if your go-to spot is closed, it's there for you! Prescription Services: now only available from 7am-11pm daily (used to be 24 hour availability like the store), which isn't ideal for New Haven-ers who have "accidents" late at night. The hours definitely exceed those of RiteAid and CVS though, so Walgreens still has the competition beat in the downtown New Haven area. Over the counter products: the store hosts isles and isles of common OTC medications, herbals, supplements, and gummy vitamins in addition to its prescription offerings. They also have a lot of medical equipment (pill cutters, med organizers, glucose meters, etc.). Grocery: there's a standard array of grocery items available. They're well stocked with enough chips, drinks, cereal, beef jerky, candy, and canned goods to go around. Customer service: I've never had a problem with the employees here, but the wait times for the cashiers are definitely prolonged. I think with increased staffing, this could be remedied. read more

Well you can get just about everything here, if they have it in stock (restock you cat stuff more often) and you're willing to wait in line for 500 hours and you don't mind paying a different price then marked. Most of the staff are very pleasant. This place is just way understaffed and very disorganized. Also you'll get prodded by beggars on your way in and out. read more

I walk by this Walgreens quite a lot so I end up shopping in it. They have a nice selection of cosmetics, chocolates, and hygienic essentials. They also have a 24/7 pharmacy which is especially nice for when I have emergency red eye and need eye drops. They also have a clearance rack by the cosmetics section that I occasionally find very nice products at. You have to sift through their "sales", but there'll sometimes be hair products on sale for 50-80% off. There are times when the lines are a bit long, but the trick is to go to the pharmacy, cosmetics, or photo section and get someone to ring you up there. The line is shorter, and if they're quick, it's a lot more convenient. read more

Worst. Pharmacy. Ever. After waiting in a long line (and it will always be long due to close proximity of the hospital) I was told it would be 45 minutes to fill my prescriptions. I left without telling them when I'd return. I came back 12 hours later and the prescription STILL HAD NOT BEEN FILLED!!! This is par for the course for them! If you find yourself in waiting in one of their long lines just to drop off the prescription, get on your cell and call the pharmacy while in line to make sure they actually HAVE the medicine you need. Virtual line jumping can save you a lot of time here. On top of the incredibly slow pharmacy, there is usually only one person manning a register checkout, while there will be 4 random employees hanging out and chatting around the photo department in full view of the registers! This will be during the busy rush hour time when customers heading home from work or school. The only time to get service without a long wait is to go to the store very late at night or very early in the morning. And during that time, you have to deal with the skeevy people outside the doors begging for money or smokes. Do yourself a favor and go to the Rite-Aid on Church Street. The prescriptions are filled in 15 minutes and more people man the registers at the front. There are still beggars out front, but there are also more cops in the area to control that. read more

What would I do without this Walgreens?? I get all kinds of things here, and I always enjoy browsing the makeup/skincare/haircare sections. The woman who usually works at the cosmetics check out counter is SO nice. Sometimes they run out of my cereal (special k with red berries), which is very disappointing! If they would make sure to keep that in stock at all times, I would give them 5 stars. However, it's a lot cheaper here than in the local grocery stores. One time I was buying a 6 pack of paper towels, and some customer saw me checking out and thought it was toilet paper. He said, loud enough to make sure everyone could hear, i bet you'll use that all up right away because you sh*t so much. He went on and on about this until I finally got my receipt and was able to leave. Everyone was cracking up. So, especially at night, you can also have entertaining experiences here. read more

This store has such a terrible selection of many of the necessities. I went looking for dishwasher detergent and there were two choices. I don't know if they were out of the other choices, but this isn't the first time I've had trouble finding things there. Another time I went looking for a shower poof and they had none. They do have milk, juice, and other necessities, though, which is good because New Haven doesn't have a grocery store. Overall, though, the selection at this particular Walgreen's is pretty sub-par. On a positive note, it is really convenient, and the pharmacy is efficient. read more

I've relied on this excellent Walgreens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays for a few years and I love it - as a pharmacy and a general store. Lines can get long and the place is busy at unpredictable times (and predictable times too) but the atmosphere is friendly and respectful, if a bit nutty. Like, I think they only let really advanced Walgreens employees work here, the kind who know just when to open up a line in cosmetics and announce, proudly, "No lines, no waiting, no cigarettes." Pharmacy delays are inevitable these days (ug) but they were more often the fault of my insurance or my doctors than the staff. Keep your info up to date, call in refills ahead, allow a fair amount of time, and you're good. They're professionals. Plus, there's a huge store full of household and hardware items and toiletries and greeting cards for all occasions - not to mention a fine selection of products "As Seen on TV." You can go months (nay, years) without setting foot in a Target. As Bryan Y. put it, GOOD TIMES! Minus a star cuz they never have that one weird grocery item I need. But that's just me. read more

Terrible experience with the passport photo service today. The staff could not care less about the costumer's needs. The staff had a "whatever", extremely passive attitude. After a few horrible shots because of bad lighting and the staff's poor skills, I had to suggest doing something differently to improve the outcome. It worked a little bit, but still got a not presentable shot. This is not a skilled job, I bet a photo booth machine or a selfie would do a far better job than a staffed human.
