I've had some bad service over the years, but I've never felt strongly enough to write a Yelp! review about it before. For the record, this Walgreens is fine for general shopping. I've never had a problem with the selection or the service. And it's really great that they're open twenty-four hours. Here's the thing: do not use their pharmacy. DO NOT use this pharmacy. This is hands down the most inefficient, incompetent, and irresponsible pharmacy I've ever used. Before this past week, I'd put up with it: the understaffing and extreme wait times, the way their phone refill system never seems to work, even the fact that every single time I've gone to pick up a prescription (dozens and dozens of visits in the last few months), there's been a reason they couldn't give it to me up front. I put up with it because I was lazy, it was convenient, I have a lot of sympathy for people in a workplace that's chronically understaffed, and no one was ever unpleasant to me. On Monday I dropped off a prescription. I didn't even bother to wait for it; as always, the line was very long and so was the estimated wait time. I figured a delay of twelve hours or so wasn't going to hurt me. I said I'd come back the next day. On Tuesday morning I had my last pill and went to the pharmacy. I was told that my prescription hadn't been refilled because there was an insurance issue. No one had called me about this. By that time in the day, I couldn't reach my doctor for help, so I went home. Hours passed since I dropped off the prescription: 24 and counting. Wednesday morning: 24 hours since my last dose. My doctor called the pharmacy to change my dosage so that it would be in keeping with my insurance guidelines. After giving them some time, I called the pharmacy just to make sure that my prescription was ready to go. It wasn't. They told me that there was still an issue with the insurance. So for the second time in a row, they hadn't bothered to call and tell me that there was a problem. Once again, it was too late to call my doctor, so I couldn't do anything about it. Hours since I dropped off the prescription: 48 and counting. Thursday morning: 48 hours since my last dose. Early in the morning my doctor called them. He reported to me that he'd spoken at length to a staff member, explained everything again, changed the prescription again, and confirmed for certain that this time the insurance would cover it. I waited till 10:00 a.m., then called them. After a fifteen-minute hold, I was told that my prescription hadn't been refilled, but that it would be ready by 11:00. I made a point of asking, "So if I come by later, I'll be able to pick up this prescription?" The woman says yes. I wait. 11:00 comes and goes. I get an automated call saying they're working on it because there's still some problem. I wait. I get another automated message: my prescription is ready for pickup! I head over to Walgreens. The prescription hasn't been refilled. What about the message I got? "If you got a message like that, it was wrong." I explain calmly that we've been through this and that they've talked to my doctor. Multiple times. They claim there's nothing in the computer system indicating that the doctor changed my prescription to be in line with my insurance. In fact, they claim there's nothing to suggest that anyone talked with him that day at all. Note: this medication is well known to cause serious withdrawal symptoms. It is UNSAFE to go off of it cold turkey. No concern was ever expressed by anyone about this. Hours since my last dose: 60 and counting. Since I dropped off the prescription: 72. I gave up and went to Rite Aid. I walked out with my prescription fifteen minutes later. Hours later, Walgreens called to say they'd found my correct prescription, which had been there all along, and they could refill it for me. The reason they couldn't before? There hadn't been a date of birth on the slip, so they'd never entered it into the system. (Note: your doctor does NOT have to write your DOB on a prescription for you to get it filled. You can just tell the pharmacist orally.) At no point during these three days--not even when they realized that all the mistakes were theirs, and not even when they turned me away again knowing I'd gone all this time without a medication that can cause nasty and potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms-- at no point in all that time did anyone ever say anything resembling "I'm sorry." No one ever acknowledged that they had made even one mistake. Do not use this pharmacy. read more

Never again. It was only around 6pm and I felt like I was endangered of being robbed in front of this store. I had to put my "I wish you would" face on to and from my car. There was a menagerie of loonies, homeless, corner boys, and young ladies up to no good just standing in front of the store. I got ice grilled all the way from my car to the store door. On my short visit there was one looney who was walking in and out of the store and shouting that he needed a random item, but then would walk out and do the same thing again (but shouting for a different item) a few minutes later. This Walgreens is laughably bad. The markup on nearly the entire inventory is outrageous, as there is almost no competition downtown (must be in cahoots with the RiteAid on Church). Expect to wait ten minutes in line for the cashier while someone in front of you tries to buy cigarettes using money from some foreign planet or some such nonsense. Does earn a second star for the 24 hr pharmacy, I imagine people find that handy. read more

This is by far the worst Walgreens I've ever been to! Totally unresponsive, lackadaisical, uncaring and ineptly managed. If at all possible, use the Walgreens in Hamden or Branford...or the Whalley Avenue location at Whalley & Norton. In addition to this panning, I've sent a strong letter of complaint to Walgreens Corporate HQ. I wish there were a way to give NEGATIVE stars!! This place rates a -4. read more

I have been filling my prescriptions at Walgreens for 6 months now because it is the only pharmacy nearby. The service is absolutely awful. There has been something wrong with my prescription EVERY SINGLE TIME. I will drop off my prescription, call the next day to confirm that it's been filled, and on the third day when I go to pick up the prescription, it's a string of excuses. "Oh your Doctor didn't call it in, I don't know why you were told that your prescription was ready." "This just got in today." "Our billing system went down just now and we can't complete the prescription." There is 1 nice pharmacy technician there but everyone else is overworked and apathetic at best, unfriendly at worst. Even my doctor recommended avoiding the 88 York St Walgreens unless I absolutely had to go there, saying they had a reputation among the local doctors of constantly screwing up orders. I hate writing reviews and this will probably be my first and only review on Yelp but this place does not deserve anyone's business. read more

Waited 40 minutes for a prescription before going up to ask them how much longer. The proceed to tell me that they can't fill it because the strength isn't on the prescription slip... Now I've taken this med for years, every day, same strength and their computers show it, yet now they want a strength on it. I've never ever had a problem before and I can't call my Dr until tomorrow because they decoded not to telle about this issue till 40 mins later, when Dr offices have just closed. Its not her job to take me off my meds and any complications or issues that come from her keeping me from getting what I've always had for years, the liability is going on her. She obviously doesn't realize that stopping someones meds that they've taken every day for years can cause serious problems. My attorneys have been emailed just in case. read more

Worst pharmacy I have EVER been to in my life. They have misplaced my prescriptions more times than I can remember. Whenever you drop off a prescription, they tell you that it will be ready in TWO HOURS (I have never had a drugstore tell me more than 30 mins tops) no matter how big of an emergency it is, then when you go to retrieve it after 2-3 hours, they tell you either (1) they haven't filled it yet and make you wait for another half hour or so or (2) your insurance will not let you pick it up for another day (they never bother to check this upfront). This is after you have waited for a SECOND time on the 20-30 minute line to speak with a technician. The pharmacy area also typically reeks, and there is very little respect for patient privacy (they will speak very loudly about patients' names/medications and have no regard for making people wait behind the line until it is their turn). They are extremely understaffed and have been for years, yet show little if any incentive to do anything about it. Things were a bit better for awhile, but now are back to awful. read more

The worst! I needed to get a passport picture taken. The first time I came, the woman told me to wait a minute, then loaded ink into the printer for 10 minutes while I was standing there. Then she told me the printer took an hour to warm up and could I come back. After she had me wait for 10 minutes! I was like, why didn't you just tell me that to begin with?! Then I came back the next day and a different woman was working there. She said she'd be right with me, then she rang someone up. Then while I was waiting 3 more people got in line and she kept ringing them up while I was standing right there waiting. Finally I just left. This place has the absolute worst customer service. Easily the worst Walgreens I've ever gone to and of course it's the closest one to campus. Pharmacy line is often ridiculously long and the staff is almost always slower than you would ever think possible. Today I came in to pick up a prescription and their entire system store wide was down. Came back to pick it up in the evening and waited for over half an hour just to pick up a prescription. They need to reallocate staff or train them on their pharmacy system ASAP. read more

I think the only people who shop here are family members or friends visiting someone in the hospital. They are open 24 hours which is nice. But store seems dead half the time. Not enough staff and prices aren't the first go to place for things. read more

Want to hear how a Walgreens Manager thinks?? Listen to this one...Today I went to Walgreens pharmacy @88 York st. NH to pick up an rx.Of course I had to wait in line for 25 min. While waiting I overheard the manager on the phone arguing very rudely with someone. He put the person on hold and asked the cashier if she remembered this particular woman coming in earlier.She said yeah,she couldn't wait for her rx any longer because she had to pick her kids up.So the manager gets even more irate and says "well, this lady on the phone is giving me attitude about how long she had to wait in line today so ya know what? I'm gunna put her rx back so when she does come back to pick it up she'll have to wait extra long! That'll fix her ass!" He said this in front of a line full of people waiting 25 min. for their rx's! I knew Walgreens was bad before but this just confirms that the higher-ups here really don't give a sh*t about their customers and are actually spiteful and cruel!! I am changing pharmacies asap and reporting this manager to coporate hq. BEWARE! read more

I had my car towed at Walgreens in New Haven at York St. The district manager didn't do anything about it. By the time he got back to me it was too late. He didn't care and said well you got your money back. Yeah it took over a month and also lost money that night because I was working. So whenever you do watch the way you park your car there. read more

Parked in Walgreens lot and proceeded to go inside and get my prescription filled because this is the only 24 hour pharmacy in the area. My car was towed while I was getting my Prescription filled. I was in the store for fifteen minutes waiting for my RX and they apparently have a fifteen minute parking limit, this was late night and I parked in the handicap area and the signs are not visible from the front of this store and I have a valid CT Handicap Permit , It was dark so seeing the signs at night is not easy even from the rear of the lot. I was shown the fifteen minute parking signs by an employee of Walgreens by flashlight because the signs are hard to see. I did not have enough money for a cab to get my car I have two prosthetic legs and am am unable to walk far. I got the car returned 45 minutes later and they damaged the parking brake because the tow driver did not know that the parking brake was mounted under the dash by the DAV due to my special needs. They did $ 1450. damage to my car. read more
