As an adult, I was my grandmother's caregiver when she could no longer shop for herself. She would send me with her check, her ID, and I'd show my ID. This was never an issue. Ever. Fast forward to now -- I'm caring for my dad. He's feeble, can't walk well, can't hear well, and cannot comprehend things the way he used to. I handle his grocery shopping. I did it three weeks ago the exact same way. No problem. Today? Suddenly I'm told, "No, you're not on the check. It's our policy. We can't accept it." When I asked when the policy changed, I was told it never changed and whoever helped me before was "wrong." I'm calling BS on that. So let me get this straight -- I can present his ID, my ID, I'm clearly the caregiver, and you're still refusing the check? For elderly people who still use checks because that's what they know? Yes, checks may be old school -- but so are a lot of your loyal customers. The ones you claim to care so much about. Thankfully, I had the money in my own account today, and going forward I'll be fine -- I have a better-paying job starting soon. But that's not the point. The point is this policy (or the way it's being enforced) is ridiculous, inconsiderate, and completely disconnected from reality. Between this experience and the way it was handled, I will no longer be shopping at Publix. After a lifetime of loyalty, this was the final straw. Do better.

After two shopping experiences, I am blown away by the difference as the Publix across the street is deplorable. The staff here is friendly and helpful. Every item I've wanted on sale or not has been in stock. They have every type of publix branded cheese available including the shaved Italian mix and crumbled goat cheese. So far the produce selection has been stellar. They also had a full seafood counter with everything in stock. Perhaps Publix is still a pleasure if you go to the right store.

They did not have any individual bottles of Zephyrhills water or many other popular products often purchased at convenience stores. Since this was my first time at this location I went down every aisle. I have commented in the past that all the Publix stores are laid out the same way, which makes it easier to navigate around an unfamiliar location. Well, that theory is exploded. Almost nothing I wanted was in its familiar spot. But that's Ok, I got some walking exercise and it made my shopping experience fun! This store is one of the few locations that has an olive bar ($10.99 lb). They were out of the Greek Olive Salad I love, but still had plenty of other selections for an olive lover, including an Artichoke Salad. They were also out of a lot of things I normally shop for at Publix: Distilled Water, Sweet N Sour marinade, Pickled Ginger, and Chicago Style Giardiniera. Now I understand most of those items are obscure, but Distilled Water? Really? That's like being out of stock on digital gift cards! (Amazingly Bing is out-of-stock on Digital Amazon Gift cards, but that's another story). There are a LOT of employees. I didn't have any trouble snagging one to find out if the item I wanted was out-of-stock or just hiding from me. I talked to about 1/2 dozen employees. 3 of them were on the ball, and 3 were clueless; Which is above average for grocery store employees in my opinion.

I went to the seafood counter. And I bought one of their ready-made meals which was Located by the sushi counter.. I thought I would FINALLY try one of these meals.. Because, as long as I've been shopping at Publix. And even working there. I've NEVER tried any of these meals. I ended up getting the brown sugar salmon rice, and brussel sprouts. With a dollop of garlic butter and seasoning. THANKFULLY, it was on sale for $8. They're usually 9$ or $10 Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. I popped it into the oven at 400° For 30 minutes.. I took it out a couple of times. To check the salmon and stir the brussel sprouts. After it was done. I cut half of the salmon. Along with a BIG scoop of the brussel sprouts. And I popped them in the microwave for 30 seconds. To make sure it was good and hot. To my surprise it was definitely tasty INDEED. Not that I thought it was going to taste bad. I guess it's BETTER than what I first thought. If that makes sense. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Along with brussel sprouts and rice. Which weren't overly done. ALL 3 were cooked to perfection. These meals are GREAT for one person. Who can get 2 meals out of it like I did. Or U could split it with someone special. Maybe, serve some rolls on side. Or buy 2 meals. And split it with 4 people.. They are definitely meals for people on the go. Who don't have time to cook After they get home from work. Especially, if they have kids and a husband. ALL they have to do is pop them in the oven. And they are done.. They also have other meals. I believe they have salmon stuffed with crab meat. And brussel sprouts. I will definitely check out their other meals.
