Quaint place with great local art. All the art is for sale, help support local artists. There was some really good works there. We stopped in for a late lunch and a drink. We split the turkey and cheddar. It had cranberry chutney lettuce and tomato. It was prepared panini style, it was delicious. Like thanksgiving on a pressed sandwich but a little bit more interesting flavors. It was great. We had a drink to go with it. Nice way to start our interesting weekend. Our plans do not matter, but the staff and service were great and the place was cool. Definitely recommend visiting when you can. We used to go weekly until several months ago when it seemed to decline AND they raised their prices. We gave it another try recently and it's still the same. There is still a gnat problem, the walls need to be repainted, and they still require a key for the bathroom. It's sort of like going to a gas station. LOVE Annex! When your in downtown St Pete you must stop into the Annex! The Annex is moi casual neighborhood jam. You always stop into the Annex for whatever's. In moi case it's usually a water. If you live around downtown you will most likely see someone you know & stop to chat. A local community "hotspot" gathering place. You can grab a lite brekkie, from their grab & go, take a walk in the park & stop here Before/after for refreshments etc., The lovely Views of the Marina & Park across the street adds to said neighborhood charm. Lots of morning walkers joggers etc., What I love most about the annex is they have this bright, sunny, little indoor cafe that features local artist's artworks/paintings on the walls. I was working a festival on the pier and decided to stop by before and after work. Got an ice coffee in the morning, and a Cuban and a beer in the afternoon. Everyone that works there was friendly and in a happy mood. Food was good and well priced. Their outdoor sitting area is nice to people watch. Weird. They are the only sandwich to go place nearby and the food is meh. Sandwiches made like they don't care at all and the register staffed with peeps who definitely don't care. My husband and I decided to try Annex since it was close to the hotel we were staying at. I had the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on Cuban bread, while my husband went for the sausage version. I was excited because I love Cuban bread, but unfortunately, the sandwiches were just okay. They lacked a bit of flavor, and the egg-to-sandwich ratio could've been better. The cold brew coffee was decent, though I asked for caramel flavor and could barely taste it. The staff were friendly, and the location offers amazing views. The affagato was nice, I didn't think it was as high end as some places. You get the option of vanilla, chocolate or combined. The croissant breakfast sandwich was nice but a little too greasy for my taste. The customer service was friendly and the lovely ladies in the kitchen were wonderful enough to make recommendations. There is a decent amount of seating inside and some outside. Parking is plenty on a weekday, but it does get busy on evenings and weekends. After walking and walking and trying to find a good place to have breakfast we finally end up here. And I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing, the coffee was spectacular, and the service was good. They have seating areas outside and inside at this ample coffee shop where they also have a store and they sell nice souvenirs. Their prices are great. We got a ham and cheese croissant and let me tell you it is one of the best I have had, crispy, fresh ham and cheese, and served warm with a wonderful price. Their coffee was served extremely hot and I was extremely happy too because that's the way I like it. They didn't put sugar which is wonderful because then we chose the sugar amount we wanted. Four star first impression of Annex. Thought this unsuspecting cafe hidden among fancy restaurants and bars was the perfect spot to break for lunch. My group was walking along the waterfront park, and weren't dressed appropriately for fine dining. Annex provided shade, air conditioning, and a casual dining experience with gluten free options. The first thing we noticed was the art covered walls and unique collection of retail items. For lunch I ordered myself an egg, cheese and avocado sammich on gluten free bread. It was absolutely delectable in all its simplistic glory. Exactly what I was hoping for. Added bonus for serving breakfast items after noon. Everyone enjoyed their light lunches and milkshakes. I used to love this place, but it has really gone downhill since it changed ownership quite a while ago. I still come here because it is nearby, but it is always a crapshoot. This was the second time they "forgot" about me and my order, so I waited, waited, waited... I saw other people order food (and wait a very long time), but eventually get their food and walk off. Ultimately had to go to the counter (again) and say hey, did y'all forget about me? And they were like oh sorry sorry sorry. I'm not sure who is managing this place these days, but I was a business person, we know that everything flows from the top down, and it's not looking pretty for this place. I would also like to comment about the quality of the food since this place was sold to whoever owns it now. The restrooms have been out of service for over a year, including the handicap restroom, which is not available, but the door of the stall is leaning against the wall. Not sure that this is ADA compliant?? The croissants shrank by 75%, and they usually taste like old moldy bread. The egg on them now appears to be a prepackaged food service tiny slice of egg. I like the Annex. Part of the 400 Beach family, this is a great place to stop and get coffee or a breakfast sandwich in the morning. There coffee is good and their breakfast sandwiches are pretty tasty as well. They don't open until 8:00 am so if you are early that might be a problem. I got to sit under a yellow and white striped umbrella that reminded me of Georgio Armani Beverly Hills from my youth. Somewhere between a beach/tourist shop and convenience store/cafe, this isn't a place that I'd go on a date night. It's just right for something quick and easy with the kids. I previously left a review for this business. The service was so bad I've stayed away for over a year. Today I gave them another chance and I'm sorry to report the service has gotten worse. Not only is the service terrible but prices have increased. I stood in line for 15 minutes just to get a small cup of coffee that cost almost three dollars. If you are behind someone who orders food you are forced to wait until their order from the grill is complete. For a while they had two people working the counter and things got marginally better.
