San Francisco has lots of closures which had happened recently like the sudden closure of San Francisco Westfield Mall in downtown which was a San Francisco community staple since the days it was the historic Emporium Capwell. The CVS on Van Ness Avenue was going to close this February but a last minute decision is keeping the CVS open. Although they closed 12 Walgreens in 2025 there are some Walgreens still open which are a neighborhood staple. The two Walgreens on Castro street are a prime example. They serve the needs of neighborhood with their pharmacies in San Francisco. The Noe Valley Walgreens has been in San Francisco for decades. On a 2026 stroll I landed inside the Walgreens in Noe Valley. The layout of this Walgreens is not my favorite. It has narrow aisles and seems linear by design. I do enjoy that it still has a magazine rack. They also have good candies for many seasonal occasions needs like Easter and Halloween ( it's always Halloween in SF). It's not best Walgreens but it's a convenient one. Go to the Walgreens if you are hungry or "thirsty" or need a candy bar from "Hershey"it's the Walgreens on Castro between the streets of 24th street and "Jersey" Twelve Walgreens closing in 2025 San Francisco can be "alarming" but some Walgreens in some neighborhoods can be very "charming" inside don't forget the 2026 calendar and don't forget the "Charmin" read more

The Walgreens in Noe Valley is the least functional pharmacy i've ever seen. Phones go unanswered. New "policies" crop out of nowhere. They refuse to fill prescriptions until the last day of a cycle, and then say sorry we never have it in stock anyway. The few kind staff seem so beaten down I worry about their health. Terrible customer service. They gave me the wrong dosage right before Christmas (line was chaos) . I tried to rectify the situation but the manager was off for the holidays. After a few days got a store credit. Went back to get different meds but credit was unusable. Said I couldn't use it to pay for meds. Had to use it on snacks or something like that. And it had to be spent in certain increments...$5...$10.. etc. What a joke. I've had some truly unprofessional experiences at this Walgreens pharmacy, all because of one pharmacist. Every time I've dealt with him, he speaks to me in an accusatory, condescending way, as if I'm a problem rather than a patient simply trying to get prescribed medication. He escalates situations instead of trying to help, never offers solutions, and treats people like they're inconveniences or worse, drug-seekers. Pharmacists are supposed to help patients access the medications they need to manage their health. Instead, his attitude makes the process stressful and hostile. I've since spoken to at least two other people who had similar run-ins with him: so this isn't just my experience, it's a pattern. This Walgreens needs to take a serious look at how this pharmacist interacts with customers. In my opinion, he should not be in a role where compassion, professionalism, and problem-solving are essential. read more

Oh, it's become almost a running joke in our family about how much stuff can be packed into this relatively small Walgreens. I've been here for vaccinations, school supplies, snacks, printer ink, etc. Best service of any Walgreens in the city as well by my estimation. Janice at the pharmacy is dreadful. A young guy who says his name is Adam, well, he is also dreadful. I have been using this location for nearly two decades. Mostly for my Rx. I have abdominal migraines and really depend on my medication. I called after the meds kept being delayed, spoke with Adam. I had just exited the Er because they didn't have my meds and they don't carry them in stock. I inquired as to why they do not carry them, especially since I am a regular long term client. Adam gave me all sort of attitude and told me to go to Silicon Valley since they keep them in stock there. I asked why they keep them and Noe Valley Walgreens doesn't. Adam told me it was because of Stanford and a relationship the locations have. I asked why UCSF doesn't have the same consideration. I mostly asked because he answered suggested levels of inequity. I also asked him if Silicon Valley has them because of the extreme wealth that exists in the area. Side note: most of my friends live in Woodside, Atherton, Menlo, so I know the demographics well. Adam was so rude and accused me of accusing him of things. It was wild. he told me to call back and ask for Janice. I called back in a few days and got Janice. She is horrible, absolutely horrible and rude. She has zero customer service skills. Her tone was accusatory from the start; as though she knew exactly who I was. "I believe my coworker already told you we don't carry that in stock" and then later acting liker she didn't know exactly who I was. That was followed by more rudeness. I was inquiring as to how I could reliably get my meds and if she had any suggestions. She was even more rude and basically refused to help. Both Adam and Janice have a tone that is accusatory and messed up. They do not want to help and they do not seem to value their jobs. I wasn't going to bother posting this review as it has been weeks since the incident. Then I got Adam again today when I requested a nasal spray refill. he said they would call me when it was ready. I asked if he saw that I still had refills left. He said " I wouldn't have told you they will call you if you didn't have refills left" That is a rude and unnecessary was of simply saying yes. The tone and sentence structure suggest that I am annoying and somehow in the wrong for asking a simple question. That is who Adam and Janice are. Rude, unprofessional, disinterested, jerks who are passive aggressive. It is uncalled for. Please get rid of at least one of them. I vote you fire Janice since this attitude comes from the top down. read more

Automated service and phone service are both abysmal. I've repeatedly tried to request medication refills through the portal; when I do, they are never filled y this location. To make matters worse, when this happens, I have to call the pharmacy directly: wait times on hold are AT LEAST 30 minutes each time. Even then, I've been disconnected when it's my turn in the queue on more than one occasion, and have to start the process all over again. It's gotten to the point where I call in on multiple lines at the same time to make sure that I can actually talk with someone (sometimes the second call gets picked up AFTER the first call I make!). This has led to REGULAR delays with my medications. read more

All the Walgreens in SF are horribly understaffed these days, but this was one of the worst cases I've seen. There was a 20 person wait for the pharmacy and no way to check in for a Covid vaccine appt ahead of it. There was no posted signs or information shared to ppl in line. Do vaccine receivers even need to wait in the same line as medicine pick up people? If the line takes an hour, will our vaccine appointment times still be valid? What time do they stop administering the vaccine? Without that info customers can't make the right decision to adapt their schedule around this kind of a delay. I asked several other non pharmacy Walgreens staff for help / info and they all told me to just wait in the pharmacy line. Horribly mismanaged process. It's not store workers' fault that they're understaffed but it's the managers fault that there isn't clearly communication (even just posted signs) to help people figure out what to do when their pharmacy is slammed. I've always been going to Walgreen and Safeway but I always came back to Walgreens because they're Pharmacy they're great especially management and the head pharmacist Jen she will work for you to make sure you get your medication and make sure that everything works well with everything you take. I've never had an issue except the only problem is when you're dealing with the people on the phone because they always make a mistake,But they'll fix the problem sometimes I gotta wait 5 minutes or a couple minutes for them to get the medication done correctly easy peasy. Don't forget to sign up for your points because I've gotten some great deals on using the points which saved me lots of money the only thing you can't use it on is cigarettes and any kind of dairy or medication. Consistently, they do a horrendous job with prescriptions for us. They never notify when our prescriptions are out of stock, and we only find out the day before a prescription has run out that they will not be able to refill it. Despite the fact that the scripts have written a full month before. Even on occasions when we've called in ahead of time to see if they will have it in stock, often they will refuse to tell us. Or tell us that they do have it in stock only to find out they don't. Then we are left scrambling to try to refill vital prescriptions. Other times we have been informed that suddenly our insurance doesn't cover our prescriptions. Which, of course they do. And usually this just requires someone to scroll down and look further in our information. Again consistently they've been very very very ineffectual. read more

The pharmacists at this location are committing insurance fraud and violating California law. I received an email from Walgreens that they tried to refill one of my medications but were told it was too soon by my insurance. The problem is that I never authorized a refill because I'm using another pharmacy now. So I called the store and asked why they refilled it. The extremely rude and condescending woman on the phone first claimed it was auto-refill. I never authorized auto refill and it is against California law to enable auto refill without the customer's consent. When I pointed this out her story changed to "the email wasn't telling you we refilled, it was just asking if you want to refill." No it isn't. I can read. It said they tried to refill but my insurance wouldn't approve it this early, but I can still pick it up if I pay out of pocket. She denied this, despite it being right in front of me while I read it to her. I asked her if Walgreens' e-mail was lying, she said yes and then hung up on me. It is insurance fraud to file a claim for a prescription that WAS NOT AUTHORIZED. read more

Definitely Worse walgreen store for customer service. Even gaslighted us that it's our fault that the QR code didn't work. Came here just to get a FedEx package. QR code given by FedEx didn't "work" then tried showing Government ID "doesn't work" then tried to give tracking information "doesn't work you will need to go to an FedEx store" they didn't know where, so both myself and my partner had to call FedEx support. Even FedEx support said the worker in Walgreens could have done it manually. But no the employee said it didn't work when they didn't even try. Lazy much right yeah. Hire better workers. Review is for this terrible pharmacy. Called in and was told my prescription would be ready in 30 min. Come in 2 hours later and I'm told it'll be a 20 min wait yet again. I left and went shopping for 30 minutes, came back and had to wait another 20 for them to fill it. In all I was nearly 3 hours after being quoted 30 min. They are hopeless. Edit: just had an inhaler prescription that I was told would be ready by 1pm. I called at 2:30 and they said they're still working on it but it would be done soon. It always takes multiple calls to get my prescription filled, and then the line to pick it up is at least 10 minutes. I stopped in at this Walgreens today and immediately became a fan. I'd been needing to pee for a long time and, when I walked in, a nice looking, hospitable Walgreens employee was standing right by the door. I quickly asked him if I could use their restroom and he escorted me to the employee bathroom. Then, I was ready to shop... I bought 3 Halloween cards, 1 blonde wig for my Halloween costume (didn't know that my costume needed a wig until I saw this one!), 3 packs of Halloween candy, 2 boxes of popcorn, and 2 packs of glow sticks. Incorrect alerts stating prescriptions are ready, 45 min lines, prescriptions not ready, asked to wait 10mins, then 10 mins again, then wait in line and told the pharmacist incorrectly filled the prescription and told to wait another 30-40 mins.
