This used to be a good pharmacy. I've been going here for 25 years. They appear to be very understaffed. It always takes multiple calls to get my prescription filled, and then the line to pick it up is at least 10 minutes. I'm currently in a lot of pain, and they have still on filled the prescription my dr sent in 30 hours ago. I was on hold for 30 minutes last night, and am now holding again. I stopped in at this Walgreens today and immediately became a fan. I'd been needing to pee for a long time and, when I walked in, a nice looking, hospitable Walgreens employee was standing right by the door. I quickly asked him if I could use their restroom and he escorted me to the employee bathroom. Then, I was ready to shop... I bought 3 Halloween cards, 1 blonde wig for my Halloween costume (didn't know that my costume needed a wig until I saw this one!), 3 packs of Halloween candy, 2 boxes of popcorn, and 2 packs of glow sticks. If you ask me, that's a lot of great schwag for about $17! The private lot with a spot waiting for me was a great feature too though there were a few cars lined up when I finished my shopping spree... read more

This is for the pharmacy. They are so incredibly slow and basically the definition of inept. If your doctor calls in a prescription be prepared that even if you call to confirm it is ready chances are it will not be. Better yet just show up to pick up the RX and they will say they didn't receive it even though you saw it go through while at the doctor. If you have two Rx don't count on each getting filled in a timely manner. Expect a " oh you had two? Didn't you get one already ?" Before they " get work on that". I know things are hard especially now but when it comes to essential medication it should be a little more snarl free. read more

Incorrect alerts stating prescriptions are ready, 45 min lines, prescriptions not ready, asked to wait 10mins, then 10 mins again, then wait in line and told the pharmacist incorrectly filled the prescription and told to wait another 30-40 mins. I'm so over this pharmacy. It used to be pretty good, but it feels like service has degraded badly in the last 3 or 4 years. We went in yesterday to pick up a prescription for a prescription cortisone cream. The line was maybe 12 deep - all the way from the pharmacy to the front of the store - so we passed. (Long lines are not unusual for this pharmacy, this is typical.) Came back today, no line! We went right up to the pharmacy clerk. She got our prescription, but for some reason it had to be signed off on by a pharmacist. We waited, and waited and waited. 5 minutes later, the pharmacist finally came out and signed off. The clerk couldn't have cared less - she wasn't overtly unpleasant, but it wouldn't have been any trouble for her to acknowledge our wait, to let us know why it was happening, and maybe apologize for it or show a little bit of a human side. The Noe Valley Walgreen's has a monopoly in Noe Valley with CVS closing, maybe that's the problem - they know it's going to be a hassle for their customers to go elsewhere, so why bother treating their customers halfway decently? We're looking around for another option. read more

Avoid getting flu shot at this location if you value your time. They make you wait in the pickup line and are understaffed for the demand. The appointments are at best a guideline - I waited over 50 minutes for a flu shot. I had hoped to be in and out to reduce covid exposure. Perhaps the Cesar Chavez location is better. read more

Every time I am here to pick up my preordered prescriptions it ends up taking 20 minutes... please get it together. Express is not set up here btw. Forward your subscriptions to a different pharmacy. If you are curious about what the worst case example of customer service looks like, come to this Walgreen's in Noe Valley as it represents the very best of being the worst. There are a lot of reviews about the state of the pharmacy, and that is certainly one issue. The level of customer service has absolutely gone downhill over the last few years. Something changed and it went from "ok" to long wait times and inflexibility. However, it's not just the pharmacy that performs poorly, the entire staff at this branch operates as if the customers are a huge inconvenience they experience in between their breaks. They are grumpy, under-trained on how to resolve basic issues on the cash register, and are unempowered to resolve elementary customer service issues. For example, they blame "the system" on the inability to do basic product returns. Definitely do not bring something that you bought up the hill at the Diamond Heights Walgreens while you were doing your weekly grocery shopping at Safeway to this branch to do a return while you are completing your shopping on 24th Street. It confuses them and if they don't have the item in stock, they can't process the return. This is so simple, it's a service that every branch type of business does to process the return and internally ship the product to the right branch... If you dare to ring the bell to get assistance at a locked cabinet to buy a higher priced product, you will wait a very long time. When someone eventually does arrive, they will be highly annoyed and sigh deeply as if they have just hiked Mount Everest to get to you. If you look at the yelp reviews of neighboring branches of Walgreens in the neighborhood, there is definitely something that needs to be addressed at the Noe Valley branch. We need better service in our neighborhood. read more

This is in regards to the pharmacy department. I have my dog's inhaler refilled here since it's technically a medicine for humans. The first time my vet called in my prescription, there was a little confusion with what name it was under, but within 15 minutes, we were ok and I got my meds. The second time, the vet had to call them 3X to confirm there was indeed a refill. Even after that, when I arrived to pick it up, the pharmacist said I had no refills, another pharmacist confirmed that no one had called in. I called my vet hospital AGAIN who told the pharmacist that I did have three refills on file! Still, 10 minutes later another pharmacist told me they were completely out of my inhaler and would have to go to another Walgreens! 5 minutes later, the same pharmacist apologized and said he found my inhaler, and had looked me up wrong. By now, my vet had called and spoken with them 4X to confirm the same medicine! There are confused zombies that run the pharmacy. Trust me, it's not worth the headache. read more

The pharmacy is pretty bad. The actual pharmacists are pretty nice but they seem to be completely overwhelmed by the workload. The pharmacy assistants are extremely hit-or-miss; I've had interactions with really good ones and then other times ranging from incompetent to rude. Today my daughter's dr called in a prescription, after which i waited a few hours, and called walgreens. After waiting 15 minutes on hold, i was told the prescription had not been received. I then called my dr, who had to call walgreens, and was told that it had actually been received, it was just still waiting to be entered into the system. what a waste of time - and when you are trying to get medication for a sick kid, a really unwelcome delay and hassle! As a convenience store, it's pretty good. Clean and well-lit, good makeup and otc medication selection, and the clerks at the front of the store are nice - these qualities are why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. But let's face it, it's a drugstore. If the pharmacy isn't good, what's the point? read more

This Noe Valley loc gets all 5 stars for 3 reasons: 1) Full of the junk you need when you're feeling your worst. 2) Genuinely courteous and helpful staff 3) Free parking / turn at steering the wheel of fate. O.C.W.L.T.H.A.P. plays ignorant (or hearing impaired). Me: "That spent yuppie chick in the orange jacket." O.C.W.L.T.H.A.P.: "Just a minute!" (Outside) 4 Patrons whose cars are blocked in by the truck: "Oh crap! WTF?" Me: "Don't blame the truck. Blame the woman who honks at people and then blocks off the loading zone. The one in the Orange Coat." 4 P: "What a bitch!" *O.C.W.L.T.H.A.P. walks out of store* 4 P: "Hey, thanks a lot!", "We're blocked in because of you!", "Selfish!" O.C.W.L.T.H.A.P. Visiting from out of town and needed to pick up prescriptions. The staff was very helpful and prompt in their service. The pharmacist was also conscientious of our pricing and offered some suggestions to help us save on our medications. I'm used to the Walgreens close to home with a long line and people behind the counter with an attitude, so this was a pleasant change! read more

Inhumane bright lights glare overhead. People, most likely customers of the Walgreens, are milling about throughout the store in haphazard zombie-like fashions. Soft music seems to be coming from nowhere and everywhere at the same time of things no one has every actually purchased in their lives but yet know all the lyrics to. Checkout Automaton Walgreens Lady ("CAWL"): (Shouting in no particular direction) NEXT! Chris D: (awoken from trance-like state most likely induced by lighting and music shuffles over to the CAWL (yes shuffles...it was a long walking day and his legs were getting tired)) Uhm...uh..here..just this. Foxtrot: (makes either a giggle/chortle sound or a sniffle sound (the reason for the trip were sniffles)) CAWL: (Still not looking at Chris D. nor Foxtrot) That be fifty-three cents! Chris D.: Uhm...here you go (hands over a well worn un-graffitied one dollar bill). CAWL: (Inspects said dollar and dispenses change all the while showing absolutely no emotion of any sort) Here. Forty, Five, Six and Seven cents your change. Chris D.: (picks up Kleenex and tosses to Foxtrot who opens them ravenously while still at counter and then starts to walk away) (to CAWL) Have a good night! CAWL: (A flicker of some remembered learned behavior from some 3-Ring binder in 'Walgreens Cashier Training 101' takes over and panic fills her eyes) Oh wait Mister! You need receipt for that? Chris D.: (looks immediately to Foxtrot and their eyes meet and widen at absurdity of the question and both think of what would be the realm of possibilities that I would need such a receipt for a .53 single pack of Kleenex and both laugh hysterically out loud) (mid-laugh and in exaggerated fashion) Why yes...I would love the receipt. I need this! Foxtrot: (giggles and sniffles while both are exiting) Oh my God! That was exactly like the Mitch Hedberg doughnut joke! Fin. The moral of this inane, albeit a very memorable funny moment between the Hero and his Sidekick, snippet of of a life's scene is to comment on the existence of chain stores. In some ways, such as knowing of this particular Walgreen's while on a City walk-a-bout when someone really needed Kleenex, is rather a comforting feeling. One knows exactly what they'll get and where to get it and there is a definite comfort to that. On the other hand, being asked if I want a receipt for a .53 purchase of a single Kleenex package glaringly points out the deeply impersonal nature of the entire relationship which, in many ways, is more disturbing than the comfort is a comfort. read more

I've shopped at this Walgreens all my life and not once have I had any issue. I'm not sure if its management or whoever does the hiring but I feel that they need to take a step back and fix it. I wasnt expecting high class customer service but having had worked in retail previously I know whats expected and what should/shouldnt be done. All I came in for was to buy a bottle of water because I needed cashback. One employee I encountered walking towards the aisle did not even say hi just a mean death stare! Probably because for the past ( I dont know how many) years they've had issues with the kids from James Lick elementary. Maybe because I look like a Eighth Grader (even though Im in my thirties) she's going to assume I'm in there to steal. So I grab my water, wait in line, and get rung up. The cashier didn't even greet me, once she scanned my water she didn't asked if I had a rewards card I just typed it in myself. All she gave me was an annoyed sigh like I was inconveniencing her and looked at her watch ( possibly because she was off soon). After I inserted my card, I clicked cashback, and entered my pin. In a nice tone I asked if I can have some 1s back because I was doing laundry. But in a condescending tone she said ACTUALLY YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT BEFORE YOU PUT IN YOUR PIN... Having this confused look on my face I look back on the key pad, her register pops out, and to her surprise I ALREADY CHOSE THE CASH BACK OPTION. This girl ends up giving me two fives and acts like I never specified dollar bills. I'm not trying to ask for much.. just basic common sense and a better attitude. I don't like to shop here anymore because of how unfriendly and judgmental some employees are! read more

Walgreens has a new "membership rewards" program. Not sure what it gets you, but I don't want to be a "member" of Walgreens. Today I went in to get a bunch of things, and because I am not a member, they disallowed all the price discounts on my items. I spoke to the manager and he said he'd "make an exception" for my purchases. That is not the point. The information gathering is too pervasive especially since they already have all my prescription info. The advertising pricing is deceptive - it's a neighborhood store- and only members get discounts? There's something creepy about that. And that the manager could "make an exception"? I always loved this Walgreens, but I stopped coming in to it when I was falsely accused of shoplifting. The Castro & 24th Street corridor, is such a wonderful shopping area within the City, and this Walgreen just happened to be one of my faves. I had come in the store one day during the week, and placed a special order through their Pharmacy. As I walked from the Pharmacy, which is located in the back of the store, towards the front of the store to exit. I put my purse on a display case of Pepsi, that was in the aisle, to find my car keys. When I found my keys in my purse, I continued towards the exit, I then heard someone yell out, "WHATS IN YOUR BAG!" "WHATS IN YOUR BAG!" I turned towards where the shout was coming from, because I knew that they were not shouting at me! But she was shouting at me!!! This young Chinese Walgreen Clerk repeated her mantra 3 more times, "WHATS IN YOUR BAG!" Omg, you talk about being embarrassed & humiliated, I told this young woman, "you are really going to feel bad when I sue Walgreens, & you find that there's absolutely nothing in my bag." She didn't bat an eyelash, and sure enough, she looked in my bag, and nothing?! I later talked to the Manager of the store, who was very nice, and apologetic. She told me that the Chinese Clerk was new, and kind of gun-ho, and I told the Manager that if the new Clerk was going falsely accuse, & embarrass paying customers, she needs to be 100% sure that someone has actually shoplifted in the store. The Manager also allowed my special order from the Pharmacy be free due to my falsely being accused of stealing. All in all, it was a bad scene, and I never returned to that store again. read more

I've been using this pharmacy for a few years and they screw up and/lose my script most of the time, resulting in repeated back and forth calls between them and my doctor. The store itself has most of what you need, but it isn't a bigger Walgreens so a few times I've found myself looking for something they didn't carry. The pharmacy is effective, helpful and prices have been reasonable. However, most of the cashier staff are pretty bad. They don't acknowledge you, they don't say thank you, they talk to their coworkers while they are helping you etc. Customer service training could be helpful!! (Note: there are several employees that are pretty good - most, especially younger, are bad). Convenient parking lot for free, usually fills up around rush hours. read more

Nice of this Walgreen's to have a parking lot. Really helps with the parking situation here in Noe Valley. Shame that they were out of Key Lime sparkling water. Had to stick with peach instead. Parking is only accessible on the street adjacent to the front door and there's only one way to enter and exit. This can be a problem as people just enter and exit wherever there's an opening. In fact, I almost got into an accident when someone decided to exit at the only entrance. Yikes! read more

Everyone here is really nice and this location is not super crazy. Ugh!! The pharmacy is slow!!! Lines all the time! But the service at the main counter? The older caucasion guy, stout, gray- AVOID! Unpleasant, not appreciative of customers AT ALL!! On my way out with my arms full of already purchased prescriptions, I asked for some change....he didn't even look at me, mumbled something about "needing to open the register" as though he doesn't do that all day, and looked away. The pharmacy and customer service has always been good here but something has happened with their stock in this store in particular in the last year that is causing me to have to either go to another Walgreens or another store entirely. This location and the 18th/Castro location have stoped carrying both Ajax and Comet cleansers. Cliff's, in the 400 block of Castro though still carries these products - common kitchen products. This location also no longer stocks Dr Scholls Air Pillow inserts (or even the Walgreens brand) for shoes. They stock more than a dozen brands of expensive hard plastic inserts though. No more sugar free Walgreens brand cough drops - instead they have Ricola's at twice the price of Trader Joes. The employees tell me it is because the 1333 Castro store is so small. Hard to believe these 3 common items would take up that much room. read more

Quickly transferred my prescription from another CVS pharmacy to this Walgreens and had my prescription ready in under an hour. Friendly and quick service. The store is also well stocked and with a diverse offering making it a very useful neighborhood store. read more

This Walgreens is so close to me that I can touch the building from my house. I go almost every day, often twice a day which is why I was so appalled at their treatment of me today by what Im assuming is the owner. My car was sputtering so I quickly pulled into the Walgreens parking lot. I went into the store purchased a coconut water came back to my car and realized it was a no go. As I said I can touch my place from walgreens so I called triple A waited and went back to my car when they arrived. The owner yelled at me while the triple a person was working on my car because he had called a tow tuck to tow my car away and was upset about the 50 dollars I caused him. I will never go to this place again, the selection is limited and half the time they don't carry typical drugstore items but I overlooked that seeing as I am so close but being made to feel like a criminal because my car was broken is unacceptable. read more

Long time Noe resident and I have shopped here many many times. The only real pluses of this store is its location. When you are not feeling well and you don't really care how much a cold remedy costs then the convenience counts. Also the women who work the cosmetics counter are really really nice, and an older guy who is up front is pleasant as well. Other than that? This would be 1 or zero stars. The pharmacy has some of the most unknowledgeable, uncaring folks you can find anywhere. They don't know crap, and they are kind of rude to boot. For example I was shopping for reading glasses. They had a display but the chart you were suppose to refer to tell you what strength you need was actually like a foot and half over your head. I pointed this out to the pharmacist and he couldn't have cared less. I ended up pulling out the chart, and putting it in a place where I could use it. TOTAL indifference from the staff, and that has been the case every time I had questions about what medication was best, or advice of any kind about the products they sell. The big warning here, as I learned the hard way is that ridiculous parking lot. OK its small and sometimes you have to wait to get a spot. The problem is that the spots to the left are perpendicular to the building and the spots to the right are at a 45 degree angle. So if you are pulling out of a spot to the left you have to pull back and angle your car towards the entrance so you can exit. However if you are in the spots to the right you pull straight back at an angle and then exit. The trouble is that the cars pulling out from the perpendicular spots can too easily enter the blind spot of cars pulling out from the other side. Can you picture this? I had a small fender bender for that very reason. I was pulling out of the angled spot, checking before I started my move then looking over my shoulder into the rear window as I pulled back. Sadly there was a car pulling out from the other side and moved into my blind spot and we hit. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AS THIS IS JUST A TERRIBLE DESIGN. I am willing to bet that I am not the first this happened to, and from the attitude I've seen in the store for other issues, no one there really gives a crap at all. Be forewarned. read more
