Be careful to not park in the shopping center as they will tow your car. It's beautiful on portions of the walkway that is very popular so at times it can get crowded. At some parts of the walkway you are in right behind someone's backyard. Your so close you can smell their cooking or their guard dog stops to say hello. They have chairs where people can lounge near the entrance of the greenway. Enjoy!

My step-brother's house borders the Greenway and so I had the pleasure of walking & biking through these greenway trails multiple times on my visit. The greenway connects communities of South Charlotte and borders a very desirable area to live as its a good place to exercise! The pathways of the greenway is primarily paved with wooden boardwalks over creeks and wetlands. A section of the McMullen Creek Greenway on the trail's northwestern end is gravel. The wooden boardwalks can be very slippery when wet and when covered by fall leaves, so definitely be careful when walking, running, or biking in this area. Watch the treetops for great blue herons, warblers, and woodpeckers. Trailside signs point out wildlife and plants that have made the well-shaded waterways their home. Although the trail feels quiet and peaceful, it is easily accessible from the surrounding neighborhoods. The two main parking areas for the trail are 11823 Johnston Road and Vista Grande Court off of Carmel Road. Restrooms are also available at the Johnston Road trailhead. Nearby amenities include the Shops at Piper Glen, McAlpine Elementary School, Toringdon Market Shopping Center and Endhaven Elementary School. The Great Blue Heron is a once rare species is increasing its numbers and has now been taken off the state wildlife watch list. These greenways also host one of the strangest spectacles in nature. Once every 13 years, the emergence of periodical cicadas occurs in the woodlands along the greenways and surrounding neighborhoods. With numbers that can reach into the tens or hundreds of thousands, these unusual insects will only be seen for a few weeks in spring when they burrow out from underground, shed their skins and take to the trees where they will create a deafening chorus that needs to be experienced to be believed.

The path takes you right past the University of North Carolina Charlotte's campus, where the early fall colors are already starting to show--a gorgeous transition from the hot summer.

The directions lead you to a parking lot with ample parking. Once you enter the greenway everything gets incredibly lush. The walkway is paved and is wide enough that you can walk side by side and another couple can pass comfortably. The greenway is also well kept and free of litter. We walked all the way down to the University, tried out some outdoor fitness equipment and headed back to the car. It was Monday but the walkway was still humming with people walking and biking. The Mallard Creek Greenway is an excellent choice for a morning walk.

The trail connects at the Mallard Creek Greenway with a cor-ten steel bridge and is paved through UNCC's campus all the way up to the intersection of University City Blvd and WT Harris. Overall the Parks and Rec website considers the trail a 2 mile trail (including the connector to Tryon) and I have run it a couple times now. I think there are plans to extend it more, but for now, it's great!

Everyone respected the "rules" and made it really easy to still enjoy the trails. We saw a snake on the path and got scared and turned around lol. We walked for 3.5 miles and there was still more to see. I didn't stop to read more about the park but I would love to explore more of it. Pretty decent parking, but I'm sure it fills up really fast on busier days.

Plenty of parking and an easy intersection with a traffic light to get in and out. This greenway now extends all the way to the state line and is great for getting out for a walk, run, bike, rollerblade, whatever it takes to move outside and not have to worry about staying on a sidewalk or dodging traffic. Lots of cyclists use this greenway, but I really recommend bike bells since I've been buzzed by bikes going way too fast (on my own bike as well as on foot). Just be conscious of your fellow humans! Overall, the greenway system is great for the city and everyone can easily access it from multiple locations and make it a part of daily living in Charlotte.

We did a couple of loops on the paved Norland Loop Trail before heading deeper into the woods on Evergreen Trail. It's a great place to enjoy nature without leaving the city. There is a small parking lot at the main entrance on Norland Road, with additional overflow parking across the street at Eastway Middle School. There is also another entrance through Sheffield Neighborhood Park off Winterfield Place, where visitors can access the preserve from the lower basketball court and adjacent parking area. The only downsides are the mosquitoes and the occasional noise from nearby highways, which can detract from the experience. Overall, it's a beautiful urban preserve and a great spot for a walk or hike in Charlotte.

There were no available spots when we were there, but we were able to park at the school across the street since it was the weekend. After we ate, we walked the trail throughout the preserve. It wasn't very long - I'd guess maybe 2 miles. It was completely shaded and a nice path. It had rained recently and parts were very muddy. This is a great escape from the city. You would never know that this is right in the middle of the city since it feels remote.

The benefit is it's proximity to 160 and charlotte highway, the wide 15-20 ft lanes (enough to set up a small game of football or to practice on a bike or with a RC vehicle). The bad is that the trail is behind some houses and seems to be the product of a sewage system. So it's got some strange drain pipes sticking out all over. Not in the way just an eye sore. Another drawback is it's short. Maybe 2/3 of a mile. Then it seems to end at the Compucon business parking lot. Overall a quiet and nice little park. If you're creative you can make a lot out of it and make a quick 1 mile back and forth from the parking lot. No lighting. Some nice stone features and a tiny tiny creek.

However, it's an easy/moderate trail with a smooth, natural surface. (The section under the high wires I would consider moderate). In cooler weather, deer can be spotted and there's a nice pond to look at (fishing prohibited). No services provided and surprisingly I see more patrols on this trail than any other I visit. I think it's a nice compliment to McDowell which is wooded and hilly. Give it a whirl.
