I didn't walk the whole thing, but the area we did walk was so serene. There's some creeks and beautiful trees. It also runs right behind a neighborhood so there are backyards right there on the greenway and that was fun to see. There were a lot of people out and about so I felt perfectly safe. I will be back to the spot often!!! So fun and so pretty!

This greenway wasn't crowded in the morning when we went. We did 5.4 miles round trip which I believe was the whole greenway, but it connects to other greenways so you could definitely do more if you want. Like many greenways, it passes by houses/neighborhoods. The biggest reason why I love this one is because the houses are gorgeous and so fun to check out as you're walking by. There's plenty of parking at the school if you're there on a weekend. Check it out for your next outdoor activity in the city!

Yes the greenway is in west Charlotte, but once the city plan furthers itself, most of the greenways will be connected which will be nice- since the city can be pretty treacherous on the roads with vehicles that don't like to share. Like most other greenways, there are benches... places to stop and also places to walk pets. I didn't see many baggie stations, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time to install once it becomes more popular. Part of the trailhead will get you on stuart creek and connect you to Blue Blaze. Great way to experience Wesley heights and take in a local brewery!

Sure enough this place is less than 10 minutes away and I had no idea it even existed. It's a cute little park with one big soccer field, a decent sized parking lot and two (connected) trails. The trail on the right is actually one end of the Mallard Creek Greenway. Off the top of my head I'm not sure how far up that goes but I've been on other portions of it before so I know it goes well into Charlotte. The path on the left is the reason I like this park so much. It is simultaneously the best and worst feature of this place. Why is it the best? This path goes for about a half mile back in to the woods on a massive wooden bridge/boardwalk. Most of the time your only maybe three feet off the ground, though the portion over the creek is probably twenty feet from bridge to creek bed. Despite this, the way the trees and terrain are layed out, if your running down the path looking straight ahead it's almost like your running through tree tops. It's really neat. The reason it's also the worst feature is the state this wonderfully cool bridge is in. It's all wooden and a lot of the boards could use some love. Several spots near the start have been worn significantly enough that you need to watch your footing when running. There are also a few places with boards missing completely from the railing and I'm pretty sure at least one piece had some nails sticking up. It's a shame it isn't better taken care of, but I assume this place just doesn't get the traffic to justify better maintenance. I think it's still worth a visit for the great little hidden trails, just keep your eyes open and your feet steady if you plan to run.

Be careful to not park in the shopping center as they will tow your car. It's beautiful on portions of the walkway that is very popular so at times it can get crowded. At some parts of the walkway you are in right behind someone's backyard. Your so close you can smell their cooking or their guard dog stops to say hello. They have chairs where people can lounge near the entrance of the greenway. Enjoy!

Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek, & Four Mile Creek Greenways combine to create a horseshoe…read moreshaped greenway that runs 5.8 miles through south Charlotte, NC and passes under Interstate 485. My step-brother's house borders the Greenway and so I had the pleasure of walking & biking through these greenway trails multiple times on my visit. The greenway connects communities of South Charlotte and borders a very desirable area to live as its a good place to exercise! The pathways of the greenway is primarily paved with wooden boardwalks over creeks and wetlands. A section of the McMullen Creek Greenway on the trail's northwestern end is gravel. The wooden boardwalks can be very slippery when wet and when covered by fall leaves, so definitely be careful when walking, running, or biking in this area. Watch the treetops for great blue herons, warblers, and woodpeckers. Trailside signs point out wildlife and plants that have made the well-shaded waterways their home. Although the trail feels quiet and peaceful, it is easily accessible from the surrounding neighborhoods. The two main parking areas for the trail are 11823 Johnston Road and Vista Grande Court off of Carmel Road. Restrooms are also available at the Johnston Road trailhead. Nearby amenities include the Shops at Piper Glen, McAlpine Elementary School, Toringdon Market Shopping Center and Endhaven Elementary School. The Great Blue Heron is a once rare species is increasing its numbers and has now been taken off the state wildlife watch list. These greenways also host one of the strangest spectacles in nature. Once every 13 years, the emergence of periodical cicadas occurs in the woodlands along the greenways and surrounding neighborhoods. With numbers that can reach into the tens or hundreds of thousands, these unusual insects will only be seen for a few weeks in spring when they burrow out from underground, shed their skins and take to the trees where they will create a deafening chorus that needs to be experienced to be believed.

With three entrances to this half-mile greenway (one here on Academy Ave, another on Crowell Drive…read moreand the third at Kerr St), this trail is open to walkers, runners, bicyclists, and roller bladers. The Village Greenway trail starts on Elm Avenue, NW, beside the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County. The trail travels down Elm Avenue, turns left at Alexander Street, and then right at Academy Avenue. The greenway takes you past the Academy Recreation Center and Webb Field, and then crosses a bridge and travels alongside Webb and McAllister fields. The greenway trail then crosses Crowell Drive and follows Locke Mill Creek to Kerr Street. Lots of shade, not many people walking today. It was quite pleasant to walk down and back. Everyone respected the "rules" and made it really easy to still enjoy the trails. We saw a snake on the path and got scared and turned around lol. We walked for 3.5 miles and there was still more to see. I didn't stop to read more about the park but I would love to explore more of it. Pretty decent parking, but I'm sure it fills up really fast on busier days.

Plenty of parking and an easy intersection with a traffic light to get in and out. This greenway now extends all the way to the state line and is great for getting out for a walk, run, bike, rollerblade, whatever it takes to move outside and not have to worry about staying on a sidewalk or dodging traffic. Lots of cyclists use this greenway, but I really recommend bike bells since I've been buzzed by bikes going way too fast (on my own bike as well as on foot). Just be conscious of your fellow humans! Overall, the greenway system is great for the city and everyone can easily access it from multiple locations and make it a part of daily living in Charlotte.

Parking lot seemed large enough for a Sunday morning. Dogs enjoyed seeing a little frog for the first time in their lives. We will certainly be back! Finding shaded walking trails for the dogs can be difficult and this was nice. The porta potties could be smelled from quite a distance away so I would avoid those.
