Stopped at Walker's for lunch both on our way to our vacation and on the way home. It was very busy on Sunday when we stopped for lunch, but the service was great and the food was quick and very good. It was not as busy on Saturday when we stopped again. Still very quick service and great food. The pies were superb! The wait staff were very friendly. Very reasonably priced as well. Wish we lived closer so we could eat here more often! read more

The ambiance of Walker's is great! High ceilings, old school counter seating, etc! However, the rest was kind of bleh for me. Our booth had ripped seats and wearing shorts, it felt like daggers in your legs. Their menu isn't as thorough as you'd expect for an old school diner. Had to ask what came with this, what was on that. They do use paper straws though, so that is a huge plus! But for seeing this billboard along 151 for YEARS and now getting a chance to stop, it wasn't as Aw-inspiring as I had hoped. read more

This is my to go spot for breakfast specifically in the Beaver Dam Area. I have never tasted a pancake so good and thin in my life. The burger and milkshake combos are always great and the staffs are very nice. I would not give this place a 5 only because nothing in the menu is really unique besides it's pancakes and blueberry syrup. Def recommend coming for brunch/breakfast over dinner. read more

Classic small town family restaurant. Delicious food and wonderful bakery items. Personable and friendly service. Very reasonable prices. The fish in my platter were flaky, juicy, succulent, and delicious. While I tend to be indifferent to coleslaw, I ate every little bit on my plate. It was that good. While paying the bill, I checked out the bakery items: lemon poppyseed muffins, strudel, cranberry scones, blueberry scones... I wish this restaurant was closer to my house. read more

Our new favorite breakfast place. Prices are low and food is served hot. Waitress's are pleasant and they have a nice display of desserts for take out or dine in. We need to try lunch and dinner to give this place a total review. Were there on a Saturday morning and there were few tables vacant. Had to stand inline to pay our bill but we were able to ogle the bakery items as we were waiting. Updated: came for lunch one day and had breakfast but the potatoes two of us received were greasy and not to our taste. Our breakfast "lunch" was subpar compared to the breakfasts we have had on a busy weekend. Came for dinner because my husband loves their hot beef meal. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger that came with fries and a malt. Didn't really want the malt but talked my husband into sharing it. This was a very good old fashioned malt and my husband was more than happy I shared. His meal came with a choice of soup which he gave to me-chicken and dumpling and it was very good-little hard dumplings like I make at home. Fries were super crispy and burger was topped with a gravy and was tasty. Unfortunately after the cup of soup and half a malt I was full. My husband always called me a cheap date so two french fries and one bite of the burger later I was packing it up to go. read more

LOVE! This small town diner reminds me of my childhood and it is terrific. I have even driven from Shorewood to Beaver Dam just to get a chocolate malt! The menu is quite large, but I have only had the Burger Basket + Malt/Shake deal. $9.99 gets you a perfectly cooked burger - made to order - fries (I have substituted hash browns before) and your choice of a malt or shake. I can hardly ever finish my malt, but waitstaff are happy to put it in a to-go cup :) The encounters I have had with the waitstaff have all be pleasant. The girls were attentive and friendly. It's a a relaxed atmosphere, kind of homey/cozy. During a busy period, there is often a wait for food and shakes. But it is well worth the wait! I highly recommend picking up a loaf of their homemade cinnamon raisin bread on your way out as well. It's the best! Keep it up, Walker's!! Don't ever change those chocolate malts :D read more

Staff was super friendly as we had a mini family reunion with a few senior aunties. One gal even took a fabulous family photo for us. Food was the family diner type we'd expect and many of our party of 8 had breakfast for lunch. One member of our party had the Liver. The only negative was the restroom. It was down a full flight of steps... so after our lunch we had to visit a nearby fast food location for the aunties that can't climb steps. We visited this restaurant based upon on- line reviews and the alternatives in the area. What a mistake. Our server was friendly but inattentive. After bringing us our drinks, she did not stop by for 25 minutes. We had to flag her down to get a soda refill. After 30 minutes our food had still not arrived. No word from our server on why our food was taking so long. Finally we flagged the server down and asked for our bill - two sodas - as we intended to leave. She hurriedly checked with the kitchen and told us the food would be ready in two minutes. We agreed to wait and the food finally showed up - 45 minutes after we ordered. My wife said her grilled cheese sandwich was adequate and my fish fry was pleasant. We were offered a free piece of pie each for the wait, but we declined as we were done with this place. The manager was aware of our situation and at checkout he deducted $5 from our bill. Why didn't he visit us during our 45 minute wait if he was so concerned? Too little too late. We do not plan to ever visit this restaurant again and suggest others think twice about eating there. read more

I just had one of the most pleasant dining experiences by chance. I was on the road for business & stopped to get fuel & noticed "Walker's" adjacent to the station. On a whim I stopped in. I was blown away. The decor is straight out of the 60's. The service reflected this as well. It was pleasant & efficient. My order was spot on & hot when it arrived. While visiting the parents who live in the area, we had decided to stop in for dinner. As soon as I walked in, we were seated right away. The decor is is dated. Even though the restaurant was busy, it was not loud - you could have a conversation without raising your voice. Jessica, server, had greeted and went over the menu and took a drink order. Please note, the restaurant does not have a full bar. I forgot what my parents ordered, I had ordered the Perch Dinner special which included a cup of soup. The Chicken Dumpling soup was okay. We had received our dinners shortly after I was done with the soup. The fries were good, however, the perch was a little greasy and the breading was a little soggy. We ate here on Friday afternoon expecting a pretty big crowd given that there was an airshow in town. We parked and went inside, informing the hostess that we had a party of 4. The wait was about 4-5 minutes (not bad). The restaurant is probably the only decent place to eat in the area. Our server appeared to be new, she did not know the menu very well and had a difficult time retaining the information. I almost expected our orders to be wrong (luckily everything was perfect). There isn't anything too exciting on the menu, regular diner food including breakfast options, lunch and dinner (sandwiches, soups, salads, etc). I had the chicken caesar wrap with grilled chicken on a spinach tortilla with side salad. Average. My other friends got the berry salad which was actually good and it came with a scone! How delicious! Staff were great about going around refilling coffee and waters. A busy restaurant with above average food compared to the local establishments. Be tempted by their pastries they have in the front. ALL looked AMAZING! read more

We stopped here on the recommendation of a friend, it packed when we got there which is usually a good sign. It is an old looking place, very much an old school type diner atmosphere with old decor, but these places usually have pretty good food, not so here. The "hostess" is pretty rough around the edges, barks out what table she wants you to go to rather than seating you. The waitress was very nice and kept our coffee cups full, too bad the coffee wasn't very good. The food is greasy and flavorless, it was hot but that's the most I can say. The biggest issue I have with this place is that it is dirty, all the silverware at our table had chunks of food on it, the chairs were filthy and looked like they never wipe them, and don't even get me started on the floor or the bathrooms. Won't go there again and wouldn't recommend. read more

I was here for a quick lunch. The food took about 20 minutes which is very long for a diner. The side salad was embarrassingly small and the chicken wrap was just ok. Fantastic food and service. I took my Mother and Father there for father's day. The burgers are exceptional. You can ask for them cook how you like and the cook delivers. Good classic style chocolate malts and the service was polite and friendly. We didn't care for the French fries. They are the modern style with the crispy rice flower coating. They came out hot and crisp we just like traditional unmolested deep fried potatoes. We will be going back as soon as we can. Nice blast to the past. True Americana. read more

Mom used to work there over the past 10 years, then she stopped working when dad became ill, now, 10 years later, she worked again, but this time, she worked part time. I missed that place. I would recommend going to Sunview. Sunview is better than Walkers except they remodeled the Sunview restaurant and the bar there was gone. read more

Driving from Mayville back to Madison, we started seeing the billboards for Walkers and we were really glad we stopped there for Sunday Lunch. It has a classic diner vibe, all the servers are old ladies, which I love. The menu is huge and they have a good selection of breakfast, lunch sandwiches and salads. I've been to Walker's several times and it is always busy. The decor is like any mid century diner, with a lunch counter and the big picture window. It's always clean and the staff is friendly and knows how to take care of it's customers. The food is a great value, with adequate portions that will please you taste buds. Where else can you get a big burger, fries and a malt (and the left over malt in the silver thing they make it in) for less than 9 bucks? Full dinners like Grandma used to make come w/ old school items like liver and onions, meat loaf, corn and mashed potatoes. It's no wonder the Geritol crowd will be seen flocking to Walker's around 4pm. If breakfast is your thing, the Walker's is your thing too. Nothing makes a hang over a thing of the past like Walker's huge selections of skillets, omelets, or the traditional menu items. You'll leave with a full gullet and an full wallet with the value here. The wait staff keeps ya happy w/ refils and you'll never have to ask for anything. Make sure you try some of the home made pie. This place has a big menu and attentive staff. It seems to be a local favorite with the older citizens. The food is ok. Avoid the sandwiches and melts. I've given them more chances than I can count and they are always soggy with butter. The pies behind the glass in front are fun to look at, but taste like they were made from boxes and pudding mixes. If you do go get a shake, they are the saving grace. Their salads are big and their dinner specials are always great for the price. Get cookies or brownies for dessert and skip the pies. It's nice for a quick bite to eat on a budget, but I wouldn't seek it out. read more

There's not much for good eating in Beaver Dam, Walker's is an exception. That said, there's not a ton I have to say about the place. It's a great little diner with a huge menu. In the world of small town diners, it holds it's own and probably out-competes some offerings in much larger areas. Usually I cringe a bit when I walk into a place and it's filled with the old bitties; I've never known the places old folks seem to like to be...well, very good. Walker's is an exception to the rule, though. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The food comes quick, and the prices are low enough to make this a reasonable option for sure. If I ever pass through Beaver Dam again while hungry, I'd consider this one of the best options out there. read more
