And for those of us who live in the Metroplex it's a breath of fresh air in more ways than one. For one thing it's not that crowded. At least it wasn't when I camped there midweek. In fact I had my choice of places to pitch my tent. For another it is so much different terrain wise than my part of Dallas. MSP bills itself as being "at the top of the Hill County" and I believe it. Beautiful. There's a decent sized lake for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. (No fishing license required.) A variety of hiking trails for both beginner and jock. Hot showers and flush toilets. Many campsites have water and electricity but the most beautiful sites are primitive. The staff is friendly and helpful. Admission is $5 per person per day. Seniors get a price break with the appropriate pass. And for $70 per year you can bring a carload into any state park for free. For one full year. Check it out. If you're a frazzled city dweller like me you might just find that a night or two in a tent at the top of the Hill County might just fit the bill. I think I'll be going back.

They showed me the key highlights of the park on the map. Then I shopped their merchandise in the park store. The trails were very well maintained and laid out. Each path was clearly visible so as not to get lost or off the marked walkway. I even spent some time in one of the day use areas to read this month's issue of Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine. Lovers leap is such an incredibly peaceful trail!…read more My husband and I hiked Lovers Leap early on a Sunday morning last weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. The silence was so loud if that makes sense. The farther we went onto the trail, it began to intersect with other trails and we began to cross paths with bikers, other hikers, and runners. It was pretty cool to see a community of fellow nature lovers enjoying the environment.

It was about an hour drive from Fort Worth, and it's eight dollars per person to enter the park. Your access gives you the ability to visit all national parks for the period in which you bought your ticket so 24 hours total. There's various trials you can do, we ultimately ended up doing two, and the moderate one is quite difficult due to the terrain. However, the overlook was a straightforward trail with a beautiful view at the end. I would say the times a lot to each trail are accurate, you wanna ensure you get there early because it does get hot in mind you it is Texas in the summertime. We packed lots of snacks, and had our water. We also took some time to dip our feet in and look at the Dino tracks up close. There's so many ways you can spend your day here, however, some quick exercise, and beautiful views definitely doesn't go wrong! You also get the opportunity to learn lots, and we took the time to take all the knowledge we could by reading through the exhibit in the welcome center. (:

A charming, small, lighted Riverwalk with multiple benches, trash cans, "doggie" bags, sturdy steps…read moreand railings which runs parallel and just east of Historic Downtown Glen Rose. We "discovered" this charming, nicely constructed walkway after enjoying a riverside picnic dinner. We were enticed by the newer, smoother-looking walkway and entrance we could see from the Pavilion at Paluxy Heritage Park--what better activity for post-mealtime than a walk!? The Riverwalk features a dock/platform where people could potentially pull kayaks, SUPs, or canoes along the edge and either paddle down river, go for a quick restroom break (there's one up the hill at Paluxy Heritage Park near the Pavillion), or take a rest. During our walk, I was happy to spot one small cluster of cheerful white and yellow wildflowers I had not yet seen in Texas near the trail and enjoyed seeing the homes across the road--a couple with some very southern features--especially the beautiful wrap-around porches! I also enjoyed trying to walk faster than the SUPer down on the river below in an attempt to start a small race. The most special surprise of all was that this Riverwalk led us to a large Dam (intended for recreational use with steps on either side). From there, you can cross over the dam and walk to Big Rocks Park - a site to behold from the dam and a bit like Enchanted Rock on a MUCH smaller scale with many large...I mean BIG ROCKS. For a girl-turned-woman who STILL collect rocks, this was a dream come true!! We were delighted that we chose this walk as it turned into even more of an adventure than anticipated and made us almost glad that Dinosaur Valley State Park closed early (7pm on weekends for day use--at least temporarily during COVID) as we gained a whole new and WONDERFUL perspective of what the small town of Glen Rose has on offer--and its much more than Dinosaurs and Fossils with many features and activities I consider quintessentially Texan in the best of ways! There's a certain feeling that can't be named in the goodness of a hot Texas summer spent on, in, or near the water with cold drinks, smells of campfire/BBQ, and good company - it's so rich and so good it's spiritual! This experience, and the wonder it filled me with, gave me that pure, untainted Texas goodness that only those who have spent time in, and love, Texas understand.

I've had an obligation to go to this park at least once a year for basically my entire life (that I…read moreknow of) for one of the many family reunions I attend. Over the course of this time, I've seen this park go from it's best days to it's worst. Thank goodness, during the last couple of years the City of Hillsboro has been diligently cleaning, updating and repairing this place into something they can be proud of again. So, currently this park has a walking path, a few playground areas, some basketball hoops, one pavilion, a concert area (with working xylophones), a couple of baseball "areas" (I can't say diamonds, because they're just grassy areas with a fence for guarding foul balls) and one soccer field. With all the work they've been doing for this park, it's not perfect. The (one and only) bathrooms are usually a mess, the pavilion is old (as in, been there since I was a kid with the only repair being a paint job), the only thing you'll be doing on that basketball court is shooting baskets and the exercise break areas on the walking path are either fine or in poor shape. Aside from those issues though, this is a great place to take the kids for bike riding or playing on the playground equipment. But if you're looking for a more sports orientated park, I would suggest going to Wallace Park instead (just north of this park on Hwy 81).

The Bledsoe Miller Park has an overdue tribute statue of Doris Miller-but the city has erased Moore High School, Jefferson Moore High School, the late Indian Springs Middle School-leaving no where for the black community to access, heritage.., and the be active, and be a part integral to Waco pride. The Bledsoe Miller park located on Bridge Street-Elm/Washington Avenue was where black families had Easter Egg Hunts, played baseball and softball. It was where my dad pushed me high in the swing where I tried to touch the trees that grew upward seemingly enabling me to touch the sky. There are fewer park benches-no pits to roast hotdogs, grill burgers, or heat s'mores 'till the marshmallows almost melted away and burned ! .., There are the no public outdoor swimming pools on the East Side of the mighty Brazos-part of the Red River and the -Colorado River. Our Brazos River has 7 tributaries.. home of the historic Chisholm Trail, the route used in the post-Civil War era to drive cattle overland from ranches in southern Texas, across the Red River into Indian Territory, and ending at Kansas rail stops. A little further south was the great Cotton Palace that was erased also. The Cotton Palace was an exhibition ground in the area of Clay Avenue, Dutton Avenue and South Sixteenth Street in Waco, Texas, from 1895 to 1930. Waco was central to amazing history with Waco Connally Airforce Base has only remnants that still exist today. Along with the Waco Veteran's Hospital that has diminished where as the Olin E. Teague Veteran's Medical Center located in Temple,Texas; 40-45 miles south of WACO has grown and is basically replaced the Waco VA as an essential government based medical facility. Walker's Auditorium where WACO, Texas (a report done by FOX 44 NEWS) - When looking back at East Waco there are few things more iconic than Walker's Auditorium. However, the venue has been forgotten - there is not one picture of the famed building that seems to exist. On a street in East Waco stands the daughter of a trailblazer. Charlotte Floyd-Love, the only child of Herbert Walker - the legendary Black -Waco businessman who opened up the iconic Walker's Auditorium in 1945. Even though there are no pictures of it, remnants of the famed building is like time has passed on and remains only in the mind's eye of their grandchildren born in the late 1940's and 50's.. Behind the old bricks echoed the music of legends. "Ike and Tina" and "Little Stevie" rocked East Waco with their immense talent, but Charlotte shares there were so many more. *My mother, who worked for Mr. Charlie DeVall at the best restaurant in Waco-the Chicken Shack favored Walker's Auditorium, was fortunate to go there and swoon over her favorite, the incomparable Billy Eckstein. The Waco Suspension Bridge is located in downtown Waco a few feet from the Waco Convention Center…read more It is filled with a rich history, built in 1870 with cables from John Roebling's, the same company that provided cables to the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge spans 475-feet, and at one point, was considered the longest single-span suspension bridge west of the Mississippi. The Waco Suspension Bridge is majestic, yet aesthetically pleasing. It now serves as a pedestrian crossing. When you walk out on the bridge, it is peaceful, quiet and serene. Listening to the water meander under the bridge almost puts you in a trance. In addition to the bridge, the steers in the front of the bridge are being renovating...painted and sealed with hot wax.

If water conditions are safe, there is also swimming... So bring your floaties! There are also bathrooms, and (I think) changing rooms. There might be a snack shop, but I've never been here when it's open, so maybe not. Only reason I'm not going 5 stars is that the unpaved parking lot is a navigation nightmare! It's also very bumpy, and entry in and out is rather steep. To top this quagmire off, there's also a huge, Texas-sized, truck blocking the parking isles. The truck usually has an over-sized trailer hitch making things even worse. Lastly, be sure to read the warning sign. If the water is not moving, i.e. stagnant, there is the danger of unhealthy "amoeba organisms."
